Thanks for the info, my and my bro are heading to Kyoto in January, going to be freezing and breezy in Japan, but we definitely are going to these places :)
I love seeing all the love to Gion and Kawaramachi area! My grandmother lives right in the Gion area near Sanjyo Kawaramachi, it’s the greatest area to be when visiting! My grandmother have never even ridden in a car (except taxi) until several years ago when she got injured because everything is so close by. My grandfather was a professor at Kyoto Daigaku (Kyoto University) and researcher. My grandmother’s favorite was Takashiyama. What’s great is that it’s still have a lot of old school services like the yaoyasan (produce store) that comes by and sells out of their truck, dry cleaners that come by to pick up and drop off, etc. so there really was no need for her to get in a car. Kawaramachi train station is only one block away! I can’t wait to go back! She actually still had the traditional Japanese bathrooms , bath tubs, kitchen, etc till my grandfather passed away and then my mom and her sister convinced her to renovate. I can’t wait to go back! It’s been so long since I have gotten to go back to Japan and visit but it’s great to see your video Paolo! So much changes so quickly!
I was in Japan twice this year, 3 weeks between February and March and 2 weeks during October. I like to spend more time in Kyoto than any other place in Japan. 0:40 Gion is more interesting in the evening when the street lights and lanterns are lit and there are plenty of good restaurants to choose from. 9:05 There is a side path on the right in Fushimi Inari-Taisha. The "hiking" path is pretty quiet even on busy days and does not have torii gates. There are bamboo trees, little shrines and a Shinto graveyard along the path. Walk the path in the morning or at night, it's quite relaxing. I also recommend walking the Philosopher's Path, start at Ginkakuji Temple and walk down to Nanzenji Temple, a relaxing and interesting walk.
Hey there. How was Kyoto during October? We’re you able to see the rich red and yellow leaves or is better to someone to wait for November for visiting ?
Im going to Japan around November 2019. Im super nervous! I'm going alone. (I have no friends🤣) Ive been taking small trips to prepare for International travel. I want to fulfill my dreams of traveling all over the world, (learning new cultures) and Japan will be my first time out of the country. I eventually will become a permanent resident. I love Japan! Im so happy ive watched this video. Im going everywhere you went😂
Great to watch this video. I live in Kyoto. Kyoto is where my job is, where my house is, where family-in-law is,,, I should be thankful for my husband to take me here. I wish I could share more about Kyoto, Japan, or Japanese culture on my video.
watching this made me miss this beautiful city called Kyoto ❤ i spent a month to have a language short course program in Kyoto and Kyoto is my 2nd home now. i remember always go to kawaramachi after having lesson 懐かしいな!
Request from Kyoto people to travelers: Please DO NOT take photo or touch to Maiko or Geiko in Gion. She is a private person, not the Micky Mouse. Thank you, and enjoy your japan trip!
Our family likes your kind of vlogging. We are learning a lot from the places you visited. Currently planning our itinerary for our trip in the Kansai region. We are truly grateful to you and Maiko. More informative vlogs to come!
Just returned from our vacation in Japan (Kyoto, Osaka, Tokyo). Your videos where our primary guides for what to do and where to go, especially for Kyoto! BTW, Wajo Ryomen Sugari what absolutely amazing! Thank you for helping us have an amazing trip to Japan!
I wish this video had been made before we went to Kyoto! Realizing just how much we missed in Gion alone! Will be sure to watch this before we go back.
Okay, you are amazing because you get right to the chase. You clearly spend a lot of time filming, and your editing is top notch! I love that you have a long history with Japan so you can share the best advice. Great video, liked & subscribed. Thanks Paolo!
Update to say, we could not have traveled Japan without you! I watched (what seems like) all of your videos and we actually spent an unexpected day in Odaiba because of them, which by the way, was excellent for kids!!! Thanks for everything Paolo...everything except the urchin bun. Haha creamy, yes, but all I tasted was a strong metallic flavour.
I'm up for suggestions really! As much I want to see some typical tourist attractions, what I like about these videos is the fact you step away from them for a taste of something new :) We are still planning so all ideas accepted
We were in Japan for 3 months earlier this year so travelled around for quite a bit. We're content creators too, so perhaps some of our videos will give you some more ideas, making your trip even better 👌
Great video, Paolo! Your videos helped so much with my recent trip to Japan! If someone is planning to visit Kyoto, I also want to recommend the west side-it’s really beautiful with Arashiyama, the monkey sanctuary, and a bunch of amazing temples!
Thanks again for an awesome tour Paolo. I'm going in March and have been planning for over a year. You're the only RUclipsr who consistently shows me something I've never heard of to add to my itinerary. I really appreciate your perspective.
Thank you for your videos! I had not planned on visiting any Starbucks on my first visit to Japan but decided to go on your recommendation for the one in Kyoto and absolutely loved it. My son and I visited Japan for the first time and we started the day at the Starbucks and really enjoyed walking around the Gion District. Thank you for all your videos!
Awesome journey with delicious treats.👍✌👘🍡🍢Majestic temple with historic and scenic view.🍃🌳🌿Machiya Starbucks -the best prestigious and exquisite settings.☕😍😋

Lmao. No bamboo Forrest, monkey park or waterfall soba noodles.. all he is doing is walking around streets and eating at restaurants this is pretty lame if you ask me
This video was extremely informative. I was worried if I would like the food in Kyoto. But after seeing your video, I am sure I will love it. Thanks a lot.
Trying to learn Japanese myself and find your captions very helpful. We have begun a must-do list including your recommendations for our planned trip to Japan next summer. Enjoy your enthusiasm!
This year went to Japan and follow all your restaurant recommendations in Tokyo and they were more than what we were expecting 👌👌❤️❤️ thank you so much!! You are our best 😘
Your tips are perfect!! I did almost everything on the list. Loved the matcha house Tiramisu and the starbucks was so cool! Just ate a complete lunch at the food market and tried a lot of new things. I’m going to Fushimi inari tomorrow morning :)
Amazing videos as always. I just recently came back from a trip to Japan (I was in Kyoto last week!!) and your videos were incredibly helpful! Can't thank you enough, amazing how you gather all this information and present in an easy to follow format. Can't wait for the next time to come to Japan.
Went to Kyoto last year and wish I could have spend more time and explore more places... didn't even know about some sections until I watched your video. So next time, I'm hoping to explore more of Kyoto! Great video, thanks!
Hey Paolo! My boyfriend and I are in Kyoto at this very moment. We took some of your recommendations, and went to Matcha Tiramisu and Wajo Ryomen Sugari. Thank you very much for your very legit recommendations! I enjoyed our meals at both restaurants very much. Keep up the good work.
11:08 - Thank you for the "wajoryomen sugari" recommendation, I tried it last night and LOVED it. English-friendly (you order from a touch screen) and the wait was quite brief since I arrived when they re-opened at 6pm. ****IDEAL FOR SOLO TRAVELERS WHO WANT A HIGH-LEVEL RAMEN EXPERIENCE W/ ZERO FRICTION.**** Beer is a lite lager and the broth is more fish-based in flavor. Also there are drawers in front of each seat with chopsticks and seasoning devices (keep your translator app ready for the seasoning drawer, but other than that no japanese required) *tip for westerners* it is definitely a hole in the wall and the device you order from is deep inside, you wont see it from the street/have to enter to see it. Jump down the rabbit hole and trust itll be there, no japanese required. In my top 5 favorite ramen bowls Ive had in my life time.
I heard this area was used as inspiration for the creation of The Legend of Zelda. You did a great job showing the best of what the Kyoto region has to offer. I hope to find a tour guide like you to show me around when I plan my visit!! Keep up the good work!!
So Im going to Japan in 2019... first I just wanted to see Tokyo and Osaka but Kyoto seems to be a very interesting place Ill definitely gonna add this to my plans. Thanks for the great video!
Your videos are the best tour guides I've ever found for Japan. Thanks for sharing your adventures and giving us great quality videos! Always excited to see your next posts
Definitely go to Fushimi Inari Taisha early if you can. Don't worry too much if there are a lot of crowds though, most people don't actually want to do the 2 mile walk up Mt Inari so it gets a lot quieter as you go up. Don't be one of those people who stand in the middle of the path trying to take photos when there are people trying to get past though..
I like your videos, your videos are very very nice, and accurate to show Japan. Im japanese , grew up in japan but lived in europe for short time. and i always had and have hard time to explain about japan with words and pictures to non-japanese people but , after I found your videos im just showing your videos to them or I say check your channel . also this kind of video is very good even to japanese people who never visited Kyoto except school trip , I lived around tokyo, I didnt know there is such traditional style starbucks in Kyoto
