The green padlock in browser address bars means that all the elements on a page are loading securely. You can have an SSL and visitors may receive a message saying that the page isn't 100% secure. That's because some scripts, images or links are still set to http instead of https. Here's how to fix it.

Love your videos! You are an excellent teacher with a very calm straight forward presentation. I have a question that I am very concerned about. Actually two questions. 1. Will changing to https affect backlinks to my site that are with the old http and, if so, how do I overcome that? I would hate to lose credit for all of those links I have gotten over the years.
Yep, worked a treat. Thanks
That's awesome Nigel, thanks for watching!

Thank you for the tutorial, very helpful! However, the SSL still left me with 11 (http's) which i had to go and fix manually. Is there a reason for this? why doesn't it fix all of them?

Do you know where I can I find my SSL Seal? I'm using Paid Membership Pro Plugin, as you recomended (great tutorial, by the way) and it`s necessary to paste it there. I know that it should be a short HTML or JavaScript, but have no idea where to find it.
thank you so helpful
You’re welcome, thanks for watching!
thank you sir
About the note that the plugin gives about "Don't forget to change settings in analytics and webmaster tools". What settings do you have to change? I was having problems with my ssl then I had my host company "force" it (whatever that means). Do I need to do something in my Google settings?
Hi Jim,
You shouldn't need to make a changes for GA, but in Webmaster tools you can set your site to be https instead of http. Your hosting company just used to some code on the server to only serve your site content over https. It's the same thing that the plugin does, only better. And you probably don't need the plugin anymore.
Great video but i'm having a slight issue. I've used the SSL Checker to check the SSL Cert and all is fine. The Really Simple SSL plugin is giving the following error...No SSL detected. Any ideas?
Hello Bjorn
thank you for the great effort
does it work with godaddy as well !
I've never hosted a site on GoDaddy so I don't know for 100% certain. But, once you have an SSL, getting the green padlock does not depend on your host. So it should work with GoDaddy and any other host as well.
I hope that helps and thanks for watching!
Thank you the plugin worked automatically for my desktop version going to the mobile site it still has no padlock what could be the issue?
Found the issue
Cool, I'm glad you got it figured out!
I just used this guide and it worked perfectly ! thanks !
Quick question, I noticed the database we created (the temp one) is still in phpmyadmin, ok to delete that now ?
I'm glad it worked for you!
It's always ok to delete temp databases. But before you do I would check in the wp-config.php files to double check that it's not in use. When you're deleting it, go to the MySQL databases section in your cPanel instead of phpMyAdmin. The MySQL database section you can delete the db more easily and you can delete the user for it while you're there.
I hope that helps and thanks for watching!
Oh wow, thankfully I checked the config file as you suggested and unfortunately the temp database is the one in use !, not sure how to fix that now.
Lol, that is lucky!
What makes the db a temp? Can't you simply decide to make that the permanent db?
Well it has a kind of 'gibberish name and username etc lol' (I just hit random keys for them) apart from that it's perfectly fine...good news is I did keep the password etc.
Again thanks for the responses and advice :)
Gibberish db names and usernames are fine. I do that all the time. You only have to use them once (in the wp-config file), so they don't need to make sense.
Just keeping the temp is saves lots of time :)
No problem for the responses :)
Please it did work very well but my about page is still showing...insecure....but all of my other pages dont have a problem....apart from the about page
Great Video, BUT you didn't mention how to do the search commands (ctrl + f using the keyboard).
Suzie Maclean thank you so much!!!!
Can I uninstall wampserver without troubling the DB of my first project?
So do I need a SSL certificate that I purchase then Activate really simple SSL
for some reason it is not working for me. I have been assured by my hosting provider that the SSL is implemented, I've followed your tutorial step by step but still no green padlock on the website. any ideas?
Can you help me please. I want to work on a second project through wampserver panel but I cannot. It has never appeared on my computer. I had chosen IE like my favorite navigator instead of Chrome. I tried to create a new DB on phpmyadmin but the problem is I cannot get access to this second one before starting working on the new projet I wanna work on. Can you help me?
Q: Do I need an EV SSL to use this plugin or is it a mask for my SSL I don't want to pay more for an EV if I can do this with a standard SSL I'm currently using SELZ for my store (want to do Woo Commerce when have time to figure that out) so my payment gateway will always be secure payment wise. I just want my readers to know my site is secure. TIA
Hi Maroli,
Sorry for the delay in responding. Our third child arrived 12 days ago and it's been a bit of a gong show around here 👶
This should work with a standard SSL, even a Let's Encrypt SSL that most hosts are offering for free now. If you need a wildcard SSL (for multisite setups) you may need to get a paid SSL.
I hope that helps and thanks for watching!
P.S. If you haven't yet, check out the WPLearningLab Facebook Group: facebook.com/groups/wplearninglab See you there!
CONGRATULATIONS. I don't envy you though. I've done my time. I wish you and spouse all the best! Thanks so much for the response. I went ahead and bit the bullet for the straight SSL. My webhost wanted $250 a year for upload and the certificate, but they agreed to install the certificate for me for $32 so I save $170 total. Not bad. They don't have Let's Encrypt in cPanel, and I didn't have time to research if I could install the certificate myself via my backend or time even to learn how to do it.
I've had people tell me to switch hosts, but I've been with Total Choice host for 15 years, and they're very reliable. Plus their customer service is really strong, which is important to me. That said, I'm always open to new suggestions. Do you have a host you recommend? I checked Siteground, and while the initial costs/benefits sound good, it looks like those costs revert to regular prices in year 2, and I'm one to stay if there's only short term benefit. It's why I've not changed from TCH. Thanks again for your reply, and enjoy that little one. They're still bundles of joy when they're not cranky. I love the smell of them when I'm rocking them to sleep. :)
Hi Maroli,
Thanks for the congrats! I love how soft her hair and skin is. It's pretty magical when she's not yelling at me.
I use Siteground because they have awesome support and some of the faster servers around for shared hosting.
The price stays at the discounted rate for the number of years you intially sign up for. Which I believe can be up to 5 years. After the initial term the price goes up to regular.
I switched to them from WPEngine because they're faster for less cost. The support at WPEngine is awesome too, but pricey.
If you like your host I would stick with them and hope that EIG doesn't buy them, lol.
AWESOME! Thanks and the tutorial was great!
I have a green padlock when i login as admin in backend and the frontend BUT when i logout i get the grey padlock with the orange triangle and the mixed content message :(
How to fix it?
Question: How did you get that little search bar to pop up in the top right to look up all the Http://
I did some research to get that little search bar use keyboard shortcut Ctrl + F keys
Hi Randal,
Sorry for the delay. Good work on the research and finding the solution :)
Hi WordPress Tutorials - WPLearningLab,
Thanks for Video, I am not getting green pad-lock in internet explorer (edge 40) Please solve the issue
Hi Ramarao,
Have you searched the source code for instances of ? How many are there? What are they?
I have one line that needs to be fixed but I can’t figure out how. The code is itemscope itemtype= schema... how do I change it?
hello, so my insecure links are two images i have. I however cannot seem to be able to find the code to edit it when i go to "appearance> editor" please help
Can you post a link to your site and let me know which images are the problem?
WordPress Tutorials - WPLearningLab lmao it’s funny bro, like 5 minutes before you responded I actually fixed it!
Basically I had the images on the site before ssl, and within the coding the “http” stayed the same I guess, all I had to do was re upload the pictures and it “refreshed” everything, thank you though!!
Awesome! I'm glad you got it figured!
working😎😉😉
I had 38 references before installation and after installation still have the same count, please help
I have deleted all the previously replies, here are the four occurrences which I couldn't figure out how to eliminate.
html lang="en-US" prefix="og: ogp.me/ns#">
href="tools.seobook.com/keyword-tools/seobook/?keyword=Home"
href="www.zippy.co.uk/keyworddensity/index.php?url=https%3A%2F%2Fbetterlifeportal.com%2F&keyword=Home"
I don't know why I got the last one. kindly help eliminate these.
Hi Suman,
Sorry for the delay in responding.
The first two you can update in the template files. Probably in the header.php file. If you create a child theme you can make updates to the header.php that are not overwritten by theme updates.
Here are some tutorials to help you with that: ruclips.net/p/PLlgSvQqMfii6X3D9S4mwM_inUYv8gq564
The other two are keyword tools, which you probably know. I'm not sure why they're in your source code though. Do you know if they're being added by plugins?
WordPress Tutorials - WPLearningLab Thank You
I am having a problem
Actually when i right click on my website and click on view page source then type it shows 143 places where http is there and now how to edit that with https plz help me
Hi Samkit,
You'll have to manually find those links in your WP Dashboard. Some places to look include custom CSS in theme options, Images loaded into theme options (like a logo), custom scripts that are being added to pages.
By looking at each of the 143 entries you should be able to determine roughly where that piece of code comes from.
Unfortunately, if the plugin doesn't take care of it it's a manual process.
Bjorn, please help me how tô setup vultr hosting, using wp application
I'm not sure what you mean by Virtual hosting? Do you mean something like WordPress.com where people can host their own sites on a single WordPress site?
VULTR is a cloud vps, very fast for wordpress, but not so easy to setup, the forms dont work by default.
If you post a video tutorial, you can stay in my house in Brazil for carnaval.
Thank you very much, you are the boss on WP.
An image with an insecure url
How can I fixed it
Hi Hritik, if the image is being served from your site then this plugin should fix it. If you're loading an image from another website doesnt have an SSL then you can secure it. You would have download the image and upload it to your site. But you could get into copyright trouble if you do that.
I hope that helps, let me know if you have any further questions. Thanks for watching!
@@wplearninglab
Ty bro 😘
Problem solved.
I am trying from last two days installed many plugins but finally fixed it.
my images can't change http to htttps plszz help
Hi Jafer,
Are you seeing any error messages? If the plugin can't force the images to change you may have to do it manually...
For Chrome, the green padlock is now a gray padlock, in case anyone's wondering why it's not working.
The only constant is change, haha.
Thanks for pointing that out!
@@wplearninglab you can still get the green bar on chrome but you have to pay for it.
hi WPLearningLab
thank you for sharing this information it helped me to change http to https automatically with the help of plugin suggested by you.

Hi Pradip,
Sorry for the delay in responding. I just had a chance to visit your site and I see that you have the green padlock now. Good work figuring out the issue!
not working.
What you done so far! Installed the plugin? Checked your source code for instances of http?
Virus showing Please tell me how to remove it? SiteLock-PHP-EVAL_REQUEST-ete.UNOFFICIAL
If there are viruses or malware on your server you should contact your hosting support right away. They'll need to know about it.
Hi. When I activeted the plugin, some of my images gone! www.kelkotamas.hu/
