If anyone experiences their site not loading properly after installing the cert don't panic. Choosing flexible SSL made my web page not load properly so I selected Full cert and this resolved the page rendering issues.
Update: Backed up site with UpDraft plugin, fixed mixed content with SSL Insecure Content Fixer (simple setting, under HTTPS detection chose "HTTP_X_FORWARDED_PROTO (e.g. load balancer, reverse proxy, NginX)"). Seems to be working fine now.
OMG its works, I have been thinking about buying this SSL but am limited on funds, I have also read a case study of a guy that crushed his affiliate marketing business by just installing SSL, you are a great man, thanks a lot, am just so happy

Question: if you have your domain with one company and hosting with another company, do you need to change the name servers with the domain? Or Hosting? (I have domain with GoDaddy and hosting with Hostgator.) UPDATE: I figured it out - the change is with the domain name not the hosting. :) Thanks for your excellent instructions!
Don't know if you are still answering questions on this topic, but when you change the DNS where your domain name is registered, how does the hosting company find your domain? Does it automatically see the change and adjust?

Just found you and so glad I did! I have a need for a free SLL certificate for my 2 websites that are hosted by Godaddy. Are the instructions exactly the same with the exception of adding the WP plug-in you start to talk about at 13.55? 1st of all thanks to WP crafter and Hail No Hero.. I have three sites.. which I am trying to get ssl. I followed all the steps and here what happened.. all sites are running on same hosting and same cloudflare account 1st site doing fantastic and got SSL green pad lock.. very happy :) 2nd site No SSL Certifciate detected.. However on cloud flare status is ACTIVE but on ssllabs it doesn't find it... site is doing fine.. 3rd site was working fine but now i cant access it neither on browser nor on wp admin panel one strange thing my 2nd site is working fine (No SSL without ssl certificate message shown) on chrome but not found outside of chrome like i tried on opera it doesnot find the DNS address. I read all the messages here and found out we have to give at least 24 hours, cloudflare works in strange ways. Like yesterday my 2nd site was working fine on cloudflare but not now.. lets see... any help would be highly appreciated
Yes I am unfortunately aware that some people are having no problems, like me, but there's a large amount of people that are having problems. With any SSL provider you have to wait 24 to 48 hours for the certificate to be issued. Also I have experience it working better when you use the Cloudflare WordPress plug-in.
I like this. Simple and effective. I have a Wordpress on hostinger and they charge for SSL. i used cloudflare. It worked immediately, not even 24 h like u said. But I think they made some improvements

FYI everyone: Even though everything is set up, and you've done everything correctly, if it doesn't work straight away (are you getting a 404 page?), Don't panic. It might take at least 24 hours for everything to properly set up. This works. Hope this helps. ;)

Hey Cary, I didn't take it that way at all. I took it more as a, maybe I forgot to bring that up or emphasize that fact in the video. I am going to probably make an update to this video to address some of the problems that people have been having. Also in the last few weeks really simple SSL made an update to reduce some of these problems that people of been having. It's weird for me though because I haven't had any problems following the same exact method that I presented in the video. And I always feel a sense of responsibility when someone has problems when they follow my advice.

I recommend that people do their homework and see what other people are reporting (their experience using free Cloudflare SSL) before blindly going the Cloudflare route. Let's Encrypt is now very broadly supported and recognized by the main browsers, and it too is totally free. I'm having good luck going that route, so far... fyi.
Awesome Video!!! Followed it step-by-step and after completing the last step, checked my domain with the link to the SSL checker and had my certificate in 15 minutes. However, it did help that I knew how to change my name servers. I was searching for a couple days on how to get the SSL for my domain. I was about to pay someone to do it for me (they needed access to my cpanel & wordpress admin, didn't feel comfortable with that). So glad I found your video and I subscribed. Again, Awesome job!! Cloudflare says this about their flexible SSL under "What do the SSL options mean?", not exactly a vote of confidence: "This option is not recommended if you have any sensitive information on your website. This setting will only work for port 443->80, not for the other ports we support like 2053. It should only be used as a last resort if you are not able to setup SSL on your own web server, but it is less secure than any other option (even “Off”), and could even cause you trouble when you decide to switch away from it"

This is from 2016, Have things changed now, or do we still need to go through all of this to get the SSL working on our websites? It's confusing because InMotionHosting says they provide a free SSL, but I'm having issues. I wonder if this is because I need to go through what you do in this video.
100% Exactly the same. But if you have a web host that offers a free SSL certificate, you can just use that. This is more for websites where the host does not include them for free.
Oh, do you also have a video that talks about the equipment and applications that you use for doing your videos. I want to improve my videos and I like how sharp and crisp everything looks on your videos. I especially like how you do video of yourself at the same time while you are using screenshot software. Hi. I actually followed the steps. After everything, I tried to log in my wp and it didn't work. I also tried to open my site and said that the page isn't working. redirected you many time. Please someone help me to this.
Excellent tutorial, thanks Adam, also a big thanks to Hail No Hero for the post. I tried the process on 3 websites, the first went without a glitch, and was done in less than 30 mins. The other 2 sites are secure (green padlock) in the back end, but insecure (orange padlock) on the front end. I installed CloudFlare Flexible SSL first, and then WordPress Force HTTPS. I then followed Hail No Hero's instructions for setting up page rules. Any help xtra help is greatly appreciated. This is the second video I have watched from you Adam, I subscribed last week. I've learned most of what I know from video tutorials, I used Lynda.com for many years, also Udemy and lots on RUclips. Your videos are first class even compared to some highly priced alternatives! Thanks Adam, that would be cool. I contacted my hosting support team about the wp-admin login errors. A team member added this code to the bottom of my htaccess file Order Allow,Deny Allow from all That solved the login problem, I did the same to my other sites, it fixed them to. The problem I have now is, I have no green padlock, support says.... "because the image in the top left corner of your website doesn't load through HTTPS". I'm now going to try and find out how to fix that.
Hey Adam, thanks for this video. I have a question - does the hosting provider change after you change the name servers, in this case, Cloudfare? So will the website be hosted on Cloudfare instead of the current hosting provider? If yes, can I then cancel my current hosting account and use Cloudfare?
Well I think that most web hosts don't give you the access you would need or the privileges that you would need in order to install it in a shared hosting environment. Sure if you have a VPS you can, but in shared hosting I don't think any hosting provider gives you the privileges is to be able to install it.
I have a domain hosted on *daddy - they do not support Let's Encrypt. I read the cPanel documentation for Let's Encrypt and followed their simple instructions and have a working SSL. Chrome verified that Let's Encrypt Authority X3 issued this website's certificate.
I am an INFOSEC professional and I HIGHLY recommend you do not set your SSL setting to "flexible". Do yourself a favor and install an SSL cert onto your origin server so all communication is encrypted.
that's not the point.. end-to-end encryption is not only for the CIA, it is common sense. Having flexible SSL is a violation of PCI DSS standards and any website accepting payment by a major credit card company can be fined for using this option. The "flexible" option essentially fools users into thinking that a website is secure. Communication between cloudflare and the web server is unencrypted AND unauthenticated. This is why every hosting company, and cloudflare themselves HIGHLY encourage users NOT to use this option. I honestly don't understand why cloudflare even has this option available to begin with.
@@WPCrafter hi I just added the SSL. But my site still doesn't show the lock, located on the address bar. I did type the https and it showed the certificate. How do I get the secure lock to show on my website? It only displays an "i" icon. Thanks
Does CloudFlare for primary domain ALSO work on subdomains meaning once done for primary domain it automatically works on subdomains. - I have a lot of sub domains and they all need SSL BUT CloudFlare does not accept subdomain URLs .??? I just spoke with Godaddy and they said that transferring the domain FireWall to CloudFlare is OK **BUT** once the viewer is passed through to Godaddy for site hosting it is NOT httpS but is still HTTP - apparently the firewall access (cloudFlare) is HTTPS but you still need HTTPS for hosting of the site - otherwise the site shows up as HTTP (no "S"). Just a note on Inmotion hosting. It's 2.5 years later and they now support these free SSL cert. It's even a part of their cPanel.

Yes if that is a concern to you, then I would recommend perhaps purchasing an SSL certificate.

I want to improve my videos and I like how sharp and crisp everything looks on your videos. I especially like how you do video of yourself at the same time while you are using screenshot software. Hi. I actually followed the steps. After everything, I tried to log in my wp and it didn't work. I also tried to open my site and said that the page isn't working. redirected you many time. Please someone help me to this.

I tried the process on 3 websites, the first went without a glitch, and was done in less than 30 mins.
The other 2 sites are secure (green padlock) in the back end, but insecure (orange padlock) on the front end.
I installed CloudFlare Flexible SSL first, and then WordPress Force HTTPS. I then followed Hail No Hero's instructions for setting up page rules. Any help xtra help is greatly appreciated.

I contacted my hosting support team about the wp-admin login errors. A team member added this code to the bottom of my htaccess file
Order Allow,Deny
Allow from all
That solved the login problem, I did the same to my other sites, it fixed them to.
The problem I have now is, I have no green padlock, support says....
"because the image in the top left corner of your website doesn't load through HTTPS".
I'm now going to try and find out how to fix that.

Hey Adam, thanks for this video. I have a question - does the hosting provider change after you change the name servers, in this case, Cloudfare? So will the website be hosted on Cloudfare instead of the current hosting provider? If yes, can I then cancel my current hosting account and use Cloudfare?

Also FYI, even though there may not be official web host support for Let's Encrypt - it can be done in C-panel.
Well I think that most web hosts don't give you the access you would need or the privileges that you would need in order to install it in a shared hosting environment. Sure if you have a VPS you can, but in shared hosting I don't think any hosting provider gives you the privileges is to be able to install it.
I have a domain hosted on *daddy - they do not support Let's Encrypt.
I read the cPanel documentation for Let's Encrypt and followed their simple instructions and have a working SSL.
Chrome verified that Let's Encrypt Authority X3 issued this website's certificate.

I am an INFOSEC professional and I HIGHLY recommend you do not set your SSL setting to "flexible". Do yourself a favor and install an SSL cert onto your origin server so all communication is encrypted.
This video is about installing a free SSL security certificate. It's NOT about NSA, CIA, Government level security. Geez
that's not the point.. end-to-end encryption is not only for the CIA, it is common sense. Having flexible SSL is a violation of PCI DSS standards and any website accepting payment by a major credit card company can be fined for using this option. The "flexible" option essentially fools users into thinking that a website is secure. Communication between cloudflare and the web server is unencrypted AND unauthenticated. This is why every hosting company, and cloudflare themselves HIGHLY encourage users NOT to use this option. I honestly don't understand why cloudflare even has this option available to begin with.

Does CloudFlare for primary domain ALSO work on subdomains meaning once done for primary domain it automatically works on subdomains. - I have a lot of sub domains and they all need SSL BUT CloudFlare does not accept subdomain URLs .???
I just spoke with Godaddy and they said that transferring the domain FireWall to CloudFlare is OK **BUT** once the viewer is passed through to Godaddy for site hosting it is NOT httpS but is still HTTP - apparently the firewall access (cloudFlare) is HTTPS but you still need HTTPS for hosting of the site - otherwise the site shows up as HTTP (no "S").
