Settings>Accessibility>Display & Text Size>Color FIlters(On)>Color Tint Intensity - Weakest or 0% Hue - about 70% That tweak looks good in my 12 pro and my wife's pro max. Try it!
Just upgraded to a iPhone 14 pro from iPhone 11. Yellow hue is there. Can’t use new phone becuSe the yellow hue is causing crazy headaches. Gonna have to return it.
I returned my 12 Pro Max because of the yellow tone. I compared against both a colour calibrated monitor (IPS) and a a white balance reference card I use for photography, as well as my trusty 7 Plus. While 7 Plus is slightly blue shifted, the 12 was way yellow and distractingly so. So the comment suggesting that the 12 is accurately color balanced is wrong. For a pro device intended for photo and video work, it’s a big mess up.
Thank you so much for validating using a white balance reference card. Due to lock down, our stores are closed haven't been able to pick one up to do my own testing. Yeah, I agree for a pro device for content creation, it's not ideal. I've been exporting to my PC where i have a calibrated monitor to do my edits.
Just bought a 13 mini, same issue - coldest I could get it was the P3-D50 setting on my calibrated 2021 MBP - not acceptable with a device used a lot at daylight - it should be able to do propper D65, too. Also, a yellowish tint may look like just a warmer colour temperature, but in reality it's different, like a monochrome filter applied, or printing on yellowish paper - this can not be fully corrected by software.
I pre-ordered the iPhone 12 Pro Max and received it on November 13th. After one month of using it, I compared it to an iPhone 8 Plus and to a demo at the smartphone store where I work and it seems to have a much more yellow tint in the screen. I called Apple Support and they send me to the Apple Store to get a replacement device. Yesterday, at first in the Apple Store, they told me that they were going to replace the phone and they brought up a brand new 12 Pro Max. I have not seen much difference between the two screens but the guy at Apple told me that the screen looked less yellow on the brand new one. I got out of the Apple Store and got into my car and compared it again to an iPhone 8 Plus and it still had that yellow tint in it. Today, I compared it to the 12 Pro at my job and again it have that yellow tint on the screen that the demo don't have. I don't know what to do. Really the build quality for a thousand dollars phone isn't there.
Hi there. thank you for sharing your experience and validating what others have experienced as well. I honestly believe Apple is calibrating all of them with warmer temperatures. I wish they had an option to let people decide to turn off the yellow hue. Are you keeping your phone?
@@TheWongReviewer What is confusing me is that it's not all model that have a warmer screen. The demo at my job doesn't look warmer compared to the 11 Pro Max. I re-called the Apple Support and again, they send me back to Apple Store on Sunday..
@@Aven0x Interesting. I know the production of the screens are consistent based on batches. Let me know how your experience goes and if they give you a new one with a better screen temperature.
I don't think Apple can fix this issue with an update. It looks like a manufacturing defect, if you look at the 12 Pro Max's display at a 45° angle, the color gets colder than the iPhone 8 Plus. The main problem with the yellow display is that the text becomes blurry and there is no clarity.
In addition to (PWM), we also got a yellow display that blurs the text. For the eyes, the big problem starts after a few weeks of using the iPhone. Apple once again deceived everyone
What about blooming when you raise volume or lower volume while watching a RUclips video in a dark room and the background on video should stay black but it bleeds light around the volume bar from end to end. And also when you do the pixel hdr test when light box moves around it bleeds and blooms around the box. Isn’t oled supposed not bleed.
That is a raw deal. Apple’s take it or leave it philosophy is going to bite them back one day. I remember when blackberry used to be the top dog in the smartphone industry... they also took their customer base for granted and well look what happened to them. Anyway sorry to hear about your ordeal with this phone. When one spends 2k and feels like you didn’t get the quality product that was advertised to you... well that is just wrong.
I waffled for a long time whether to return or keep the phone due to the yellow display. In the end, I made the personal decision was to just keep it. Other than the yellow hue, i'm pretty happy with the phone, however as other commenters and yourself have commented, for such a premium product, it sucks I have to manually adjust a filter to it.
Sir I totally agree , if after spending 2k im not able to click the actual white color of a flower , then what benefit is of buying the apple...my eyes detect the color first before the camera does , and if eyes are detecting white and phone detecting yellow.... Im not stupid to keep this shit phone with me ...and will return for sure ..
Often i see a calibrated PC monitor screen the white point is indeed a bit yellowish,Its true. But yellowish tone on the newer iphone screen still doesnt look right for me. I dont know why. I had a 11 pro that have same issue. My ipX have better color in my eyes
This “color memory” is bs. i was able to compare my 12 pro max with other 12 models, and found that none had the same issue with my screen. i bought the 12 pro max when it came out, and have been bothered by this green tint since I unpacked it. Something is definitely off, and I suspect there are multiple panels with different qualities of color calibration, supported by multiple other youtube videos and apple support thread. i want a good phone for 1200 dollars.
Thanks for your feedback. I agree that the productions process is never consistent and there will be variation in panel displays Thanks for sharing your experience and I'm sorry to hear you have the green tint issue. Did you end up returning yours?
Same here. Compare my 12 pro max to other 12, mine look so yellowish and i wonder why. I went back to authorized dealer and they said iphone has different screen display in all their phone. Im speechless
Yeah, the screen didn’t work out for me, so I’m voting with my dollars and returned it. They basically had me willing to spend $2500 on a new phone and decided to calibrate a screen that was a huge departure from how old screens looked. They simply should have put in a mode like True Tone, call it “color correct” or something and make it so that we have the option to turn it on or off.
Based on commenters from the other video, a lot of people are choosing to return the phones. I agree, the should've put a better "true tone" options into the phone to give people a choice if they want a cooler or warmer temperature. It was a struggle to make the decision whether to return or keep the phone due to the yellow hue.
I have just been through this and saw how true tone is the same as the blue filter other companies use to make viewing easier at night - so true tone is misleading name for what it does. With that off my IP12pro max was still too warm for me and I have returned it - I inspected all three display IP12 (pro and max) models and all had identical screens which seemed "old fashioned" warm toned. I came from a Sony Z btw which has white whites. The ip12 pro max screen was same as my six year old ipad air and same as my imac 27" screen which I now realise also does not have white whites - so... I am feeling that perhaps I should not have returned it - signed confused.
Thanks so much. This is really helpful. 💜 I guess I have to get used to the yellow hue on my 12 mini. It only happens when I use the phone straight in front of me (which is most of the time) just a slight angle will bring back the colder tone, which I like better.
Don’t know wether you found the solution or not, but you can search for colour filters in settings and adjust the display hue to your desired settings. Hope it helps 😊
The Wong Reviewer i’ve researched through the internet and some people had the same problem. Apple said that I should’ve wait for the next update, they thought it is a software issue. But if the problem won’t fixed, they will assure to replace the phone.
I have the same problem. Blacks are grey / green and not off like it supposed to be. After iOS 14.4 it isn’t fixed yet. This should be reported from more people to apple...
iphone 16 has the same issue and it bothers me a lot... had to tinker with the tint/color setting just to make that yellowish/warm tone go away and make it cool.
Not sure if this would help but it worked for me. While using 2 phones (iPhone 12 and random android phone to use for camera flash / torch). I turn true tone on and off for about 2-3 mins. 1.)Light mode on > True tone on > Aim the flash directly at the sensors and watch the color of your screen change. After a few seconds, turn off the flash, wait 5-10 seconds then turn the flash on again and aim at the sensor (probably 3-5 times). Interchange the process with true tone off. 2.)Do number 1 again but this time turn on auto brightness. Make sure you're still on the "Display and Brightness" settings to check if the auto brightness slider is hitting max. (probably another 5 times) AGAIN, this is just my personal experiment which seamed to work. But the screen however is still a tiny bit warm and won't be that blue hue compared to the older iphones. Turning true tone on and off is what I have mostly read that fixed this issue and what the staff from apple service center is doing. I just added the idea of using a flash since without it, it seems to be doing nothing and not really changing the color of the screen. I find this better than adding that Color filter tbh. Sorry for my bad English and hope it helps :)
I’m copying the DXOmark summary of iPhone 12 pro max display test: As for the drawbacks, like the other iPhones we’ve tested for display (namely the 12 Pro and the 11 Pro Max), the color cast of the iPhone 12 Pro Max is strongly yellow - something that can be seen in all tested conditions and in video as well as still imagery - and this impacted the score. Our engineers also found the brightness levels a bit dim, especially in low-light situations, and the blue light filter adds a strong orange cast and a dimness that impacts readability.
I bought an iphone 11 instead really happy with it the white looks true white as it should and another thing I noticed when you use zoom the RUclips app, the screen size is affected by it but not with the 11 so far i think iphone 11 is better
I have seen 4 iPhones 12 pro max and only one looked less yellow, but it was minimal. All screens are warmer. Even screen calibrators say that the iPhone has a more accurate screen than other smart phones.
Hi there. Thanks for the comment. What you told me here supports what Apple Support has mentioned to myself and others on here that the warmer temperature is normal. Interesting, i've been reading from others who say the same thing that the screen now is more accurate. I think it may be a matter of people getting used to it?
@@TheWongReviewer exactly, you’re rigth. I have an iphone 12 pro max and it has green tint problems. It is more noticeable when the brightness is less. But I don't know whether to bring it to hardware support or wait for an iOS system update. What do u think? Great video!!
@@kenyichulluncuysantos2860 I haven't noticed green tint on mine, just the yellow hue. I don't think the green is normal. I would bring it in and see what they say. It doesn't hurt.
@@TheWongReviewer Same here, mines more of a yellow tint. Except when I look at the screen from a sharp angle does it appear green. Changing the color filter helped some.
The first day I used my 12 pro max, I felt something was off with the display. Especially at night (when we generally reduce the brightness). I too noticed the yellowish hue. Had to compare it with my XR just to be sure it wasn't my mind tricking me. Turns out, there is a difference. I called Apple support and they sent a replacement model. Guess what, the replacement model also had the same issue. I've sent back the replacement model and still using the original one. Guess I'll go to an Apple store once they're open for walk-ins. Anyway, I'm getting used to this color now. Hardly notice it. That's how adaptable we are I guess. Still, it did bother me that I'm paying 1100$ for a phone that has a different display. Thanks for the video mate! Makes me feel a lot better about my phone. Ima keep it as it's still the best out there imo.
Hi there. Thanks for taking the time to provide your experience. You've validated what others have experienced as well that the warmer temperature is the "new norm" for the IPhone 12 models. Same as you, I've kept my phone despite the yellow hue. I'm getting used to it. Only when I see white font on black background that it bugs me. However, other than that, it's a great phone and I use it alot for youtube creation. Enjoy your phone!
Thanks for this video. I just purchased the 12 a week ago.I went from Android to Apple. I tried turning the True Tone of, the screen is a bit better, more like a very light yellow. I don’t know if I want to take it back
Thanks for commenting. Unfortunately, turning True Tone doesn’t completely take out the yellow hue. After a while, you will get used to it. If you use dark mode, you can really see the yellow. I’m curious as to why you switched from android to iphone.
@@TheWongReviewer Chiming in... I despise Apple and all it stands for. But I bought the mini because it's a premium phone in a small size, something I can't get from Android which keeps making increasingly massive devices. Not every user is a kid desiring to play video games. Also, my hunch is anywhere from 75 to 90% of users don't know (or care) anything about photography, yet virtually all phone manufacturers continue to make a huge deal about their whiz-bang cameras. A reasonable, simple camera would work fine for me and a phone I can actually put into my pocket. I saw a concept today for a new version of iP5 (I think they called it iP5R) that addressed all of my needs, including a lower price. Gimme THIS thing: ruclips.net/video/hEABPrKIv_I/видео.html The mini is horrendously and needlessly expensive for most people looking for a device with that form factor. Most of us don't need and don't care about the stupid camera or the hit-or-miss face unlock (and the seriously dated notch design it requires). This is mostly about Apple being isolated inside their bubble to the extent that they're really out of step with a huge segment of the market that just needs a decent phone.
@@madisonsinclair5123 Thank you so much for the feedback and well thought out response. I agree with your last statement there that Apple is isolated inside their own success. Like you mentioned the hideous notch! Are you keeping the Mini?
@@TheWongReviewer I exchanged it. I guess I’m one of the lucky ones, the replacement unit looks fine. However, exchanging your phone is definitely playing phone display roulette.
Same with me. My iphone 12 pro max had a yellow hue/warm color display. It’s very disappointing that a usd1600 phone had a wrong temperature display. I had to set mine into cooler temp on Accessibility...
Thanks for commenting. Yes, I am too. It's too bad you can't turn it off, but I made that choice to keep it. I haven't enabled the accessbility color temp adjustment to see if i can get used to it.
@@TheWongReviewer I’ve also noticed this on a new 11 pro I bought today. I really like the phone but the display is kinda bothering me, and it’s very noticeable how much more yellow the whites are especially compared to my old phone (iPhone 7) - would you recommend changing the color tint so it’s a more bluish screen or just getting used to the new more yellowish tint? Thanks! 🙏
Great video. I was going nuts about this issue. re: 19:21: no, sir. You should NOT have to tolerate this. This yellow tint issue is a black eye for Apple and a PR flub. They should have addressed this in a big way rather than this hushed whisper to individual users who complain. For a thousand bucks, this thing should have been spot-on out of the box, as were my Galaxy phones. If they were making a "change" toward "truer" colors, they should have addressed that to stay ahead of user expectation, so we don't all waste time and grow anxious by feeling like we've been ripped off. If Android made a phone as small is iP12 mini (which they do not, my major gripe against tone-deaf Samsung and these TOASTERS they're calling phones) I'd take this back immediately. Moreover, we are well within our rights to file a class action suit.
HI there. Thanks for the comment. I'm disappointed too, but I chose to keep it. It's good to get a perspective from another content creator. Yes, the colors will be off, even if you apply a filter to fix the yellow hue. I've been using it for both video and photos but I always export and edit on my desktop. Do you have an iphone 12 already?
I totally understand your dilemma. It was a tough decision for me as well. I can’t help to feel that I just settled and I should demand more for the money I paid. If i edit photos and video on the phone, I would return it as I need the color accuracy. Let me know what you decide to do! Do you have a youtube channel or IG ? I’d be interested to see your work.
i buy an iphone 12 pro max 7 days ago, and i noticed yellow tint like you said but when i disable true color, the white color looks white, not that white like i was getting on s21 ultra or huawei p40 pro but its good
Thanks for commenting and providing your feedback. I know some people have mentioned that later production runs had better white balance. I’m glad yours worked out for you. You’ll love the phone.
Hi there. i didn’t notice the green flickering on my unit so I never asked Apple Support. Based on other commenters, they just returned it. I think the green flickering is a defect
i might sound dumb here but did you guys go into settings, accessibility , display& text size , and turn off Auto-brightness I had a dull looking screen and this took care of it
Hi there. Not a dumb suggestion at all. Any suggestions is welcome. Yes, for me I did turn off the auto-brightness and it was still an issue for me. It helped a bit, but I still see the yellow hue. Thanks for your time.
My 12 pro is actually greenish. I wouldn’t care about a yellow tint but the green has gotten so bad. Especially in a true black area its a strong grayish green. Its as if there was LCD bleed in but its OLED so im really frustrated spending over 1k on a phone that has such a strange issue. Should I go to apple or not even try because apparently people aren’t getting anything for this.
Hi There. Based on comments from this video and my last one. The greenish tint/ hue isn't right. Like you said, especially with OLED. IF possible, go to the apple store and compare your greenish unit with those on display. If it indeed is greener than the rest, then you have proof you have a defective display to switch it up. I'm not sure if you have apple care or within your 14 return policy. You're right, you shouldn't have to settle especially the premium price you paid for it.
@@TheWongReviewer Thank you! i’ll make sure to do that. Really helpful and informative video btw. i doubt it’ll get replaced because i’m out of the 14 days but i guess i’ll see.

I have just received a replacement iPhone 11 and side by side my replacement 11 has a warmer yellow screen. Good news is I’ve watched a RUclips video side by side and the new yellow screen colours are so much more life like.
Ok guys, I just compared my iPhone 12 pro max with my old iPhone X, I created the same white picture in photoshop for this comparison as a reference, and only difference I see is 12 pro max is 40% brighter, and the color temperature is like 5% warmer, but honestly, 12 pro max whites look as white as they can be, I also have ASUS PRO ART display, it’s the best display to work with colors in its price range ($3000) and it was professionally color calibrated, so I compared 12 pro max with it, using same white picture, and they are literally the same. So I think most of the people who are complaining about the yellow tint on the new iPhones are just used to cooler whites on older devices, that’s it.
Hey there. Thank you for going through the comparison and checking with the ASUS PRO Art display. When did you get your iphone? I wonder if it’s related to different batches? Either way, I don’t disagree that we’re just used to cooler phones and now we haven’t adjusted our internal color profile to the new IPhone 12 display color. Others have commented the same thing. Personally, I’m getting used to it. It’s just in dark mode the white text being yellow is distracting.
@@TheWongReviewer it sucls because I used different iphones and switching from 12PM to the older Xs Mas it bothers the heck out of my eyes. I mean why did Apple do this? Is it just because the nits are brighter?
after two months of calling Apple and talking to the service centers in my area, I've almost lost all hope. yellow tint fixed with a mix of color filters and night shift and green tint on a dark background .. Apple does not want to replace my iPhone because, so several people at Apple have told me, they are sure that the problem is software and Apple is working on a solution .. hopefully with 14.4 otherwise I'll sell my iPhone
Thanks for the update and l'm sorry to hear about your situation. I really hope you're right that 14.4 will solve the yellow hue issue. I haven't used the filters yet, but I may just have to.
I just came from an Apple Store and compared my 12 PM to the one on display. Adjusting the brightness of the display model like to that of my cp, the display model is more yellowish than my own. So I was relieved. I’m keeping mine: it is so expensive! But my question is: will the yellowish tint affect the camera outputs of my phone?
If u take a white cars picture in ur phone it wil be yellowish but is send the same picture to another phone ull see the car as white colour Photos ansmd videos are not in accurate colour u can't edit r change filter

There have been a few commenters that have mentioned the green tint issue. I haven't seen it on my phone, however based on feedback, from the discussion, some people were able to exchange it with the green tint.
This is BS on Apple part. I have been using my iPhone 11 since September and thought it was weird and why is my screen yellowish compared to my XR and 7plus. Now it’s past the return policy and I’m stuck with a phone 11 that’s yellowish. I’m so upset.
@@Food-is_Life I have no idea about the other models' screen; but when I compared the screens between iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 11, the one on iPhone 12 is far more yellowish (all the settings set the same). In addition, when I tried to set the same color using color filter, brightness, etc, the screen of iPhone 12 is still so much irritable to my eyes. This is due to the flickering tech of OLED screen. I have Iphone 12 indian variant and the display as purple tint when used in dark mode is it a colour callibaration issue, or is it going to fixed by apple in upcoming apple ios update or else i have to change the display. please reply
I got my new iPhone SE yesterday and right away noticed that it has a warmer/yellow tinge. I took it back to the store and awaiting their response but I also checked my phone with a display phone and I found that only my phone had the yellow tinge so I don’t think all phones have the yellow tinge. I think some do and some don’t which is very weird considering it’s iPhones. I also met with another person at the service center who had an apple iPhone 11 which he bought for his wife which also had the same issue and he himself owned an iPhone 11 and when he compared his with his new bought phone for his wife they also had the difference . the new phone had the yellow tinge.
Thanks for commenting. Based on what you're telling me and based on other commenters here, I believe that Apple has made their displays warmer in recent productions. Keep me posted on what the store says about your SE. I want to know if they believe that is the norm.
I just bought my 13 mini and same problem with the yellowish tint. Imo its worse if u are taking pictures or vids. It looks very yellowish so as a photographer it will somehow annoy the crap outta u bcause of its yellow hue on the photo lol altho when u upload somewhere else it looks original
Hi there. I followed a few forums on reddit on this issue and it appears that Apple doesn't see it as an issue. They don't plan on releasing firmware to fix it.
Thanks for the feedback. From online articles, the yellow / warmer temperature is supposed to help your eyes instead of the blue light. The contrast of the yellow hue make it easier to see. It's something that i just have to get used to personally.
Thanks for the video. I appreciate the investigatory effort. I have the iPhone 12 and noticed the yellow tint, returned it once, and contacted Apple regarding the issue. Apple confirmed they were aware of it and to keep in touch regarding a potential software update. The colour tint application works for me, so I'm going to stick with the phone. However, to the one user (Daniel Adrian), you had a screenshot of his long explanation regarding us being accustomed to the blueish tone of the iPhone 11s, well I went from an iPhone 8 to 12 and even the iPhone 8 had a normal blueish cooler tone than the iPhone 12. I say if altering the colour tint in your settings works for you, and gives you a cooler tone that you can live with, just keep the phone. Apple isn't fixing this by any replacements, that's for sure.
Hi there. Thanks for the feedback. Appreciate it. It's interesting how they mention to you that a potential software update may address the yellow hue. I really hope that's true. I haven't applied the filter yet, i'm trying to see if it can live with the yellow hue even with true tone turned off.

In comparison with my monitor screen, the iPad of the fifth version - the iPhone has a yellow tint of color. It is difficult to switch from different screens, but it is almost impossible to return the phone due to legislation and the gray market. Officially, the phone is much more expensive, when, as in other countries, it is generally a penny. The most important problem is the huge amount of device, not the color of the display. Constantly changing the color of the display for my eyes is very difficult
True Tone is supposed to make it warm and keep eye strain less with continuous usage. During my days of iphone 5, I used to get very bad headaches with long hours of usage. True Tone really helps.
I think the problem comes from the hardware rather than the software. I did try to adjust the screen of iPhone 11 and iPhone 12 Pro Max; although the color tone are quite the same, iPhone 12 screen still hurt my eyes so badly due to its OLED display and yellowish tone.
I got my iPhone 12 Pro Max 2 days ago n battery life is too bad it drains like 1 percent every 5 minutes of watching RUclips do u know anything about it or if they will ever fix it or I should return my phone
Hi there. Your battery life doesn't sound normal. My battery life hasn't been great either. I found there was 2 apps that was continually running in the background that was using up my battery, even if I wasn't actively using my phone. Check to see what apps are using up your battery. If it isn't an issue, I would exchange it within the 14 day return policy.
Try downloading an image of white from Google. Just type in to the search bar, image of white. Save it to your photos then view it. Look at it in a dim room and just ask yourself if it looks white or has too much yellow or too much blue look to it. If you think it looks good and pleasing to your eyes then that’s it. If you think it looks too yellow then check out a basic video I made.
@@ryanmilbrod2386 Better to be a little warm (yellow) rather than blue to make it easier on your eyes. But on phones that are way too warm the basic colour filters video I made can help a lot.
‘Colour Memory’ I think thats what it is used to hated on my iphone 7plus display as it so yellowish then I turn on colour filters changed the hue setting. Then after awhile I turn off color display and I get used to it . I think my eyes was lying to me all this long
Color accurate my ass! I'm a photographer, the colors reproduced by the display are crearly washed out and the yellow tint it's noticeable. Soo ugly to watch, 1300€ to fight with color filters, Apple this time screwed up
Thanks for your feedback. I'm glad that a photographer is able to provide some insight. I'm using it for both photos and video, but i'm editing it on my PC. Are you using the iphone for picture and videos? Are you keeping the phone?
I'm using for both. Hdr videos and photos are 100% accurate, sdr are not. I'm not keeping the phone because flickering it's objectively visible and caused me extreme eye strain and serious headaches. In some occasion when I used the phone in dark environments for 30 minutes I had problem to talk because I was very dezed by the display. This is not healthy, even if you don't notice the flicker. All the other aspects of the phone were amazing but for me it wasn't usable
I did also return my iPhone 12 Pro due to the same problem. It is like burning my eyes. It is literally unbearable. I think Apple is having a huge problem with iPhone 12. It made me loss 20 percent of the phone price when returning it to the store.
Had my 12pro max in less than 2 weeks. I noticed that the brightness isnt as good as the 12 pro that I have and the 6s. Theres a bit if yellow tint too. So I contacted apple support, tried everything and even updated to 14.4. They scheduled me for a repair/check. Guy beside me had problems after his phone was returned to him in the service center so I said I dont want them to open mine and insisted to compare my phone with the one in the store. They agreed mine was a bit off so now Im scheduled to go to where I bought my phone. Apple representative online also advised that I have the unit replaced. Will get back to you after. i hope all goes well
Hey Janet! THanks for sharing your story. With so many commenters, 90% have said Apple hasn't done anything with their phones when they bring it in. Yes, please keep us posted.
@@TheWongReviewer so I went to the apple store and in less than 6 mins, guy there fixed my phone. It’s now the same as the one in display. The quick fix was that he turned off the auto-brightness. The tint was there because the screen lacks brightness. I guess it was just the settings of my phone that it turned this way. Check if there’s any change to your phone after you turn off auto-brightness
I wish apple would allow you to adjust the white tones like Samsung. That way if you want your screen cooler or warmer you can adjust it to your liking
Is it just me but I just installed iOS 14.4 on my iPhone 12 and the whites look much better even with True Tone on. Tomorrow I will compare it to my iPhone X. Maybe Apple took care of this issue with this software update.
Well, compared to the iPhone X it was still bad... So far the best solution I have found for this issue on my iPhone 12 is: 1. True Tone off 2. Night shift off 3. Color filter on - Color Tint on - Intensity 0% - Hue 65% I also compared my iPhone 12 with my previous iPhone X at different brightness levels. I found that with default factory settings and True Tone off, at lower brightness levels the 12 does not show deep blacks as the X. So I believe that this issue can be fixed only partially with a software update, because I am worried that the Oled screen of my iPhone 12 may not be as good as the one in my iPhone X. Hope this helps.
Well I have zero issue with my 12. Just turn off True Tone and go into settings and colour filters and just cool down the colour of the screen if you think it’s a bit too warm looking. My iPhone 11 was way more warm looking out of the box than my 12. I would say the 11 has the problem not the 12. But even the 11 could be greatly improved by using the colour filters. I made a very basic video showing how to adjust this if anyone’s interested.
Hi there, the comment about the calibration is correct. I have the 12 Pro Max, and after checking if this was normal behavior for OLED panels I have decided to keep my phone. I have experience and training with professional video, and some photography, and I can plainly tell people here cooler displays bother my eyes now. I also feel the warmer tint is more natural to look at in indoor lighting as well. I have been able to get my display more on the white side just by using it in brighter settings where the screen brightness goes up, and I keep True Tone off to keep color accuracy consistent. In my case if True tone is off, as well as Night shift, in dark mode the fonts turn white very close to my iPad Air 2 in Dark mode. One thing I can offer is, if you want a cooler tone, turn on True Tone, and sit in a cool white lighted environment. The screen with adjust.
Hi there. Thank you for the feedback and comment. It's great to have validation that there is nothing wrong with the phone, but it's just us learning to adjust to the "new normal". Appreciate your time in crafting this great response.
@@TheWongReviewer You're welcome! I did some of my own testing as mentioned to confirm this wasn't a hardware issue, but strictly software. At least for phones that are damaged. As I mentioned, if you have a source of cool white/blue light such as an LED Flashlight, or even a LED bulb, smart or not that's daylight or cool white, you can reproduce my results with a correctly working phone. Turn on True Tone, and then turn on your light source and put the phone sensor right in the path of the light source. Your display should brighten, and turn a cooler tint to match. IF the display doesn't change, or it stays too warm, THEN you have an issue.
I asked for apple chat support here in Brazil about that yellow tint in iPhone 12 displays, they sayied this is a original preset of the phone for the "healthy of the eyes". Dont know if this is truth, the only thing i know is that my eyes hate that yellow tint. 👁__👁
Hi there. Thanks for confirming your apple support chat. It appears the message is consistent now that Apple has set the phones to a warmer color. I wish they gave the consumers an option to completely turn it off. Thanks for the feedback. Appreciate it.
@@TheWongReviewer Yw! I returned my iphone today, the next one comes in a week. 🤞 I see a lot of people saying they bought 2 phones and 1 of them came with a normal screen. I'll be here next week with the feedback!
@@JorgeHenrique-mz8qy Hey there. Thanks for following up. Dang. So it looks like Apple is calibrating the screens to be a warmer colour with the yellow hue. @@TheWongReviewer I think if apple does that. They would be accepting that they made a mistake with the warm screens on all four models. That would result in massive returns. because there are many people who prefer cooler screens.
@@kenyichulluncuysantos2860 Thanks for comment. Yes, a majority of people prefer cooler screens and you're right. I don't think Apple will do anything about it. It would be PR nightmare for them.
Dude, a 1200$ phone should be perfect in that regard. Imho this is an ongoing Apple quality issue - I just returned a brandnew 13 mini for the very same reason: The coolest colour I could get on it was equal to the 5000 Kelvin DTP setting on my 2021 MBP, and contrast was bad compared to my 2022 SE. when I went to the Apple store to compare, none of the Phones displayed there had this issue. It's known Apple faced big supply problems in the recent past, and they have several display vendors. I guess they've put profit over quality and accepted a batch of lesser quality displays in the hope people just don't mind, or if they do, they can talk them into this being the 'truer to life colours' and we are just used to these way to cool screens - this remembers me of 'you're holding it wrong'...
I think Apple is panic now due to the massive return of iPhone 12 lines. I was also one of the victims...I don't know what the hell happened to them for such a basic mistake. Besides the excessive yellowish tone, I can not literally stand the OLED screen which causes extreme strain in my eyes. What a pity; other than the screen, all of the other aspects are so perfect.
Same I just find there is something off with the iPhone 12 so sad bc I really wanted to upgrade my iPhone 6s plus but I just can’t seem to tolerate the OLED screen
@@Kawiibear101 If you want to upgrade, then just buy the iPhone 11 (not Pro) because its LCD screen is exactly the same with iPhone 6s. I am using white iPhone 11, and I couldn't be more happier.
I came from ip11, though ip11 is not an OLED, I guess its more on a yellow screen or warm screen that’s why when I got my ip12promax, I didnt notice that it is yellow bcoz I got used to the yellowish of ip11.
I don't know how my whites on iphone 12 looks too yellow is "a colour calibrated display"from apple.............and thay are telling it that there it is normal colour ....................idk I feel like I have been cheated with that cheap yellow display which I didn't experience it in my whole life in any high-end smartphone's
Last month I got the new 27 iMac, now I got iPhone 12 Pro Max, both Apple claim to be calibrated, the iPhone is clearly yellow, *not that this is more accurate because if I take photo of an object it has yellow tint on the phone and when I transfer the photo to the iMac it looks on the iMac like in reality*
Thanks for commenting. Yes, the yellow hue displayed on the iPhone 12 Pro Max is a display filter that is placed on the screen. It’s not a clear representation of what you actually see. Main reason I didn’t return the phone is because the pictures and videos I take are pretty accurate when I see it on my monitor which is color calibrated to my spyder . However, if you’re a iphone photographer or videographer this can really mess with you if you’re trying to correct color while shooting as the yellow hue will throw you off.
Yeah, other commenters have mentioned the same thing. Unfortunately, Apple is just a massive corporation and it's easy to dismiss these kind of issues.
@@TheWongReviewer I gave them a piece of my mind after several geniuses noticed the same issue, yet refused to do anything about it. I loved this company before this, and now I literally hate them for wasting my hard earned money. I just can’t believe how far this company has fallen, and I sincerely hope they get what’s coming to them if they keep this up.
You should not buy either of them becausw they both have OLED screen and yellow tone that hurt your eyes so badly. I did return my iPhone 12 Pro due to the same proplem, and got a iPhone 11 in return. iPhone 11 has LCD screen which is perfect for my eyes.
Hi there, thanks for the tip. I tried it and unfortunately, it still has a yellow hue, not as bright, but it's still there. Especially when I have dark mode on and the fonts are supposed to be white. Appreciate the tip.
Hi there, my only advice is to go to Apple Store and see if they can fix it. Compare it to other units in the store to see how strong the yellow hue is. It seems to be hit or miss if Apple will replace or fix it in store based on all the comments i've seen.
I'm a new iPhone user, and now have both my Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus and the iPhone 12 Pro Max. I feel duped and scammed out of $1200. The yellow display and camera on the pro max are trash compared to this old model Samsung Galaxy. Disappointed in Apple for not only nickle and diming their customers for these subpar overpriced phones. And I'm starting to believe these RUclips review channels get paid to sugarcoat the truth and overhype these Apple products.
Thanks for the comment. I honestly don't know why the bigger youtubers didn't point this out? I'm really guessing it's because they still want to continue to get free Apple products. I'm sorry to hear you're disappointed. What's your plan? Keeping it or returning it?
@@TheWongReviewer I haven’t decided yet. I spent an hour recalibrating the colors and trying to get it as close as possible to the Samsung but the colors seem a bit washed out. I may exchange it for the 11 pro max if the issue is not as prevalent with the 11 and wait on the next iteration of the iPhone. I’m glad I have both (iPhone and Samsung) so I can enjoy both experiences but I really shouldn’t have to do all that for a device this expensive.

I had the same issue with my 13 pro max, I returned ... I can't believe I'm happier not having that phone.
Agree, that the yellow display causes the text to be washed out. It's something hard to get used to.

It only happens when I use the phone straight in front of me (which is most of the time) just a slight angle will bring back the colder tone, which I like better.
hey what's the filter trick? i cant find a video on it, thanks

@@vidsforfun5155 You're the first person who mentioned a grey tint. Are you within your return date ?
(probably another 5 times)
AGAIN, this is just my personal experiment which seamed to work.
I’m copying the DXOmark summary of iPhone 12 pro max display test:
As for the drawbacks, like the other iPhones we’ve tested for display (namely the 12 Pro and the 11 Pro Max), the color cast of the iPhone 12 Pro Max is strongly yellow - something that can be seen in all tested conditions and in video as well as still imagery - and this impacted the score.

Eff the “just get used to it”. I need color accuracy for my photography and editing. This is so disappointing from Apple.
HI there. Thanks for the comment. I'm disappointed too, but I chose to keep it. It's good to get a perspective from another content creator. @@TheWongReviewer здравствуйте,спустя столько времени вы смогли решить эту проблему ?

I have just received a replacement iPhone 11 and side by side my replacement 11 has a warmer yellow screen. Good news is I’ve watched a RUclips video side by side and the new yellow screen colours are so much more life like.
In yellowish screen we are unable to see the correct colors.

I got my new iPhone SE yesterday and right away noticed that it has a warmer/yellow tinge. Apple isn't fixing this by any replacements, that's for sure.

I am really disappointed with the purchase of iPhone 12 (From India, as there are no other versions for Russia at the moment). The most important problem is the huge amount of device, not the color of the display. still facing yellowish display 12PM this 2024?
Is it just me but I just installed iOS 14.4 on my iPhone 12 and the whites look much better even with True Tone on. Tomorrow I will compare it to my iPhone X. Maybe Apple took care of this issue with this software update.
Interesting. I just installed IOS 14.4 and compared it to my XS Max. It's still the same yellow. How did it look to you comparing it to the X?
Well, compared to the iPhone X it was still bad... So far the best solution I have found for this issue on my iPhone 12 is:
1. True Tone off
2. Night shift off
3. Color filter on - Color Tint on - Intensity 0% - Hue 65%
I also compared my iPhone 12 with my previous iPhone X at different brightness levels.

I returned my iphone today, the next one comes in a week.
🤞
I see a lot of people saying they bought 2 phones and 1 of them came with a normal screen.
I'll be here next week with the feedback!
@@JorgeHenrique-mz8qy Awesome. Good luck. I'm very much interested to see how your replacement goes!
@@TheWongReviewer Hey!
My new iPhone arrived, guess what...
Yellow as a 🍌 D:
@@JorgeHenrique-mz8qy Hey there. Thanks for following up. Dang. So it looks like Apple is calibrating the screens to be a warmer colour with the yellow hue. Some people have commented that a "new batch" in 2021 may resolve it. I honestly think that this is just the norm. What are you thoughts now? Keep or return?
I am returning mine tomorrow !
Thanks for the comment. Based on other commenters on this video and others. A majority are returning them as well. I’m starting to think I may have just settled. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for the video
You’re welcome. Hope it was helpful
I checked in the Istore in (israel) today n compare mine 12pro max with the other 12pro Max there’s a huge difference in the display. And don’t know weather it’s all the 12pro max or some which has yellow tint
Hi there. thanks for the comment. Based on other commenters in this video and my last one, the yellow screen / warmer temperature appears to be the norm now.
I doubt it is intended. Only affect some phones , not all i heard.
Thanks for the comment. I know there are a few commenters who have exchanged their phones and waiting for the new ones to see if the new unit is better. I'll keep you posted in the comments.
I returned my 12 pro the next day bc of this issue
Thanks for the comment and validating what others have mentioned here. It sucks. What did you end up getting in it's place or are you just waiting?
Im just going to wait and see what happens thanks for replying🙏
D65 is industry standard for white color and its yellowish white.
Thank you for clarifying.
Ya’ll should return it. Otherwise Apple will never fix their stuff.
Worst part is-most people won’t even care/notice, so Apple will continue to make crazy amounts of money, despite putting out defective products. I just can’t believe how far this company has fallen, and I sincerely hope they get what’s coming to them if they keep this up.
Should i buy iphone 12 or iphone 11 pro?
Have you decided yet? I'm hesitating on this too
You should not buy either of them becausw they both have OLED screen and yellow tone that hurt your eyes so badly. I did return my iPhone 12 Pro due to the same proplem, and got a iPhone 11 in return. iPhone 11 has LCD screen which is perfect for my eyes.
No dear wait for iphone 13, we have already waisted money
turning off auto brightness removes the yellow tint instantly
Hi there, thanks for the tip. I tried it and unfortunately, it still has a yellow hue, not as bright, but it's still there. Especially when I have dark mode on and the fonts are supposed to be white. Appreciate the tip.
@@TheWongReviewer sorry I was wrong about that I mean if you turn off the automatic toggle just under the appearance setting
Can I go to Apple Store and fix it? I sill have a limited warranty and it will expire in December. 🤯🤯
Hi there, my only advice is to go to Apple Store and see if they can fix it. Compare it to other units in the store to see how strong the yellow hue is. It seems to be hit or miss if Apple will replace or fix it in store based on all the comments i've seen.
@@TheWongReviewer Thank you so much 😎😎
@@chinnapatchirawikran6305 Thanks, appreciate the comment.
