Hey Dan, What I like about you is that your not afraid to try anything on these cars. The car coming along just fine and a lot faster then I thought. Karl over at Make it Kustom is a cool guy. He has damn near every tool for and kind of body work or customizing anything metal. I first seen him on Riding with Alex Taylor. You should check with her father, Riding with Alex Taylor, he has a 55 or 56 Nomad in his shop. He may have or know of parts you may need. Merry Christmas to you, Danielle, your family, friends and all your subscribers.
Great job removing old bad repairs and making it look new again. Your welding and metal working skills are a great asset. This Nomad is definitely being brought back from the dead.
Hey man, you have the knack, and the guts. Id like to reccomend a book to you from 1931 by Sargent, its called "the key to metal bumping" basically it was a vocational school textbook from the days before bondo, and i swear, just what it teaches about putting heat into metal with glancing hammer strikes will change what u can do. Just a recommendation, and keep it up bud. Nice work
It's either the bitter cold weather, something in the water up there, or the hair....but you get more done in a month than most do in a year. Keep up the good work, looking forward to all your cool projects next year.
Great job on the Nomad, watching you work that metal is inspiring me to get busy and replace a bad ding in the lower rear fender on my 48 GMC surburban with a fender I bought at a swap meet years ago.
Necessary details always take longer and never show much. But we know, and enjoy watching you tackle them! Fenders look 100% better! Those eyebrows make a tri five, what they are.
Mid 70's, pulled a '55 belair 2dr htp out of a farmers yard, it had been 'customized' in the late 60's, rear fenders were stuffed full of newspapers from Minnesota to hold bondo...
Great job with the fender brows, Dan. Guess you have a rust free Nomad now. Thanks for letting us look over your shoulder on this repair. Merry Christmas to you and Dani. 🎄🎁🎅⭐️
Quality repair work. Your experience is kicking in now Dan. It's shoeing in your videos and work. I learned some real world stuff in this video about brow repair. Solid 10 video
nice work on the front fenders and rad support repairs . the fender caps are probily both made at the same factory but the left one was a reject so they sell them cheaper with no brand name. i bought cheap 55 quarter panel front and rear sections they must be rejects made by the same company as the more expensive ones that are just stamped out better. watching you knocking out the nomad , i switched off from my 55 convertible to my 56 hardtop to get it done first so i can drive it soon . then back to the 55 convertible it was worse than your nomad ,and it started out as a broken in half 56 convertible and a 55 belair 4dr sedan doner. your doing a great job on the nomad cant wait to see it go on its first drive !!
Coming along, it's the smalls that take the time to complete. Your right about Karl amazing metal finishing work. Between you, Tony, and Karl the best videos out there. Season's Greetings to you and Danie and Murf.
Another awesome one , Dan ! I love the approach to these replacements as you work with what is there , but work it with the patience needed for an easily finished product . That work smarter , not harder , ethic probably accounts for the 6 cars you can finish up in 1 year . This also includes the time you take to cut up "donor cars " during the process of building the 6 , whilst waiting on parts . In other words , your time management skills are impeccable . No drugs or alcohol seems to lend to this ability as well . Your "apprenticeship" was in your garage , building cars . Done . You're mastering techniques , with simple tools most of us have , or can afford to own . That said , 3 sets of body hammers & dollies won't make you better . You've grown far more resourceful not having them . Let's hope your hood isn't all "Dane'd" up ! Don't short yourself , Brother ! We love you just the way you are , resourceful , undaunted ,& humble.
I think it would be a good idea to put the hood on and adjust all fender hood gaps before you finish the tin work. Trial fit yout trim pieces before the filler goes on. It's looking good. So far. Keep on it. Thanks for sharing. DD Speed Shop.
I owned a 1973 VW Transporter (type 2). I crawled under it one day and I grabbed the body side panel to pulled myself out and poked my hand into a panel of newspapers and a thick coating of bondo. I found out the Van was covered in rust as it had been in the northeast USA. I drove it until I dropped a valve on cylinder #1. I gave it away after that. Impressive repair you did. Hope you and Dani have a Merry Christmas 🎄
Fwiw, when my son moved down to Georgia, I went to Goodmark to buy a few things for a friend and the owner said that, despite being made in China, his parts are made in genuine GM dies. Parts and fit are pretty good.
Did you go to school for body work & welding, or is this a "I'm gonna give it a shot"? Your skills are through the roof!! The skill level and knowledge of old cars leads me to believe you have an old soul! You're around my daughters age, 32 and her thing is trucks, louder the better! She takes after her old man!! Again, you never cease to amaze me!! Here's my face watching you perform miracles! 😲
Some fine metal work on the core support and fenders friend. Your skill is not only technical, it also looks like you have a clear vision and take your time through the steps to make sure its done right, the way you want it. People can learn a lot watching you about building a car with your resourcefulness and determination. Good job, its going to be neat seeing you get it all dialed in.
Most people in their garage get to the point where you are on a rebuild and the project stalls out, years later the car is still just sitting. Glad you have the gumption to keep going until the end.
Dan, If you ever make it to the states look me up I will take you to the most amazing salvage yard ever. Not sure how this place has stayed a secret for all these years, but I would love for you to see it. If you like I will try to get you a video of this place and all the cars. Literally it looks like it was lost in time. :) Nomad Is coming along great. Like I said before, if you pull this one off you will be a legend in my mind. Amazing work from where it was to where it is ! :)
So you said " To the untrained eye at night, through the internet". This video was awesome, man and you must have moved up to 4K the clarity was outstanding. I tell you, you can really tell that you love this ride, with the attention to detail, outstanding!
Fantastic work on the sheet metal brows Dan 👍! I really appreciate how you ‘step us through’ what you are doing. Your not only good with the camera but verbally explain the why & how as you go. Nice 😊. John
I like to use a piece of copper or a bar of aluminum pressed against the back side when there is a panel gap to fill that winds up being a little wider than I expected. It acts as a nice heat sink to keep from blowing through the existing panel which is usually a little thin from corrosion. The steel won't stick to the aluminum bar or copper bar and really helps. Give it a try sometime, it may be helpful. No such thing as cheating when welding!
Excellent job replacing those fender caps! It's an unwritten rule, every time you skip food or sleep to get more work done on a vehicle you will run out of materials, or discover you have the wrong parts... at least that's the way it goes for me.
As always great effort and work !! 👍 love to see you do some custom work like our hero Gene Winfield !! 94 years young WOW ! maybe 53 or 54 chevy. Happy Holidays Dan and Dani
You can pull and install a SBC in a tri5 without cutting or removing the rad bar, a short water pump installed, the engine has to be at about a 45 degree angle, back of the block to the passenger side, front to the drivers side, i don't use a chain, a intake plate, two chain quick links and a swivel, it will slip in there and not touch anything, i just did one at work on Thursday.
Man i still say that a good investment is in the company that makes the zip disks that Dan uses ! Dan is the metal working Michael Angelo , that Nomad went from scrap to a dang solid car !!
@@DDSpeedShop Yep thats a positive for breathing in all that dust off those disks . I never worried about breathing all the rubber dust from all the patch repairs i did over my 30 years working in the tire buisness till i got in my 50s then i started to worry some , i think i would were a mask will cutting all that metal , as you saw on the outside of your white truck i has to get kind of thick in the garage . Just something to think about Bud !!
Cadillacs of 55, 56 and 57 had a panel inside behind the headlights to keep mud water and other debris from packing up behind there. Would you consider adding those pieces on this Nomad?
@@DDSpeedShop there is a need and it was done for Cadillacs. Time for a solution to the problem for Chevrolets. Surprised somebody hasn’t ever cashed in on the need since Tri-Fives can sell for as much as new cars.

I have that book. It helped a bunch.
Metal work over fibre glass everytime, gets my vote. Or at least, wherever it's possible. Good work as usual, Dan!
I share all my videos with a very dedicated viewer❤
It's either the bitter cold weather, something in the water up there, or the hair....but you get more done in a month than most do in a year. Keep up the good work, looking forward to all your cool projects next year.
I suspect Dan's work ethic runs quite a bit deeper than that.

Dan, you have so much fun and create the best tri fives from scratch. My favourite is the only 1957 chev snow plow!
Nicely done! Watching from Naples, Florida 😎

It’s always fascinating to see what you find when doing body work that someone else has done. I like the way you do the repair.
