That blue ‘55 has turned out so nice. I know you’re not doing a full restoration, but honestly the car is so nice that I could see putting at least a little more into it. Great job with it.
I think this video is important for someone looking to restore a tri5. Others build them without showing the key areas needed to fix and without showing costs. Thanks Dan and Dannie. (I hope Steve is better soon.) 🇨🇦
I have a 56 2 door on my property. I let a friend Park it here 20 years ago and then for 15 years I haven't heard from him a month ago I met him at a drag race and he proceeds to tell me hey you still have that 56 out there I tell him yes I do then he tells me I got all kinds of chrome and knick-knack stuff if you want it. I guess he doesn't want it no more. And yes it's a decent but needs everything car. Not a lot of rust on the floor or nothing because it's here in Texas I'm kind of thinking about putting it together especially after watching you work on your stuff you make it look easy
Get better Steve... Everything is coming along, really love that you have all that room for projects... Been watching since beginning and have to say, outstanding job on the ride's, excellent taste in car's also, love it... Keep on doing what you're doing... Much love DD speed shop...
The Cost Of Building These Trifives Has Doubled,Since I Built Mine 13 Years Ago! With Danchuk Being Sold and Not Making Parts, Its Just Getting Worse! Building These Cars In Canada, Has got to Be A Challenge! Thanks For The Great Video's.
I bought my 56 4 door hardtop last year for $4000. Parked in a garage since 79. Rockers and dog legs are toast , a couple of the outer floor braces are crunchy but the floors are rock solid all the way through to the trunk. I have redone all the brakes including lines. All the front end tie rods etc. I still have to do the rear springs and shocks. Just this stuff was another couple of grand. I bought dog leg patch panels for 90 bucks each and let’s just say I’ll be making my own rockers. It’s disappointing when you buy a patch panel and it is so small and light and doesn’t feel like a hundred bucks when it’s in your hands 😂. You are correct in saying buy the best car you can. However I would be very weary of the tri-fives in the 15 to 20 thousand dollar price range, a lot will be older “restorations” that had questionable repairs done and they need to be gone over thoroughly.
Great reaction Kate. It is a feel good movie for sure. Can’t believe you never went to your prom. You look like you could be the Prom Queen. Have a great day, Kate.
You need a cone around Steves neck . Stops ALL the chewing & licking issues. There about $25.00 US. My Mastiff had the same issues licking on wone ALL the time, but with a cone, no more problems.
hey, calm down over there. i like a 56. depending on the build 55 or 56 (dont care for the front bumper/grille or dash on 57). i have a 56 bel air 2dr sedan. was/is missing trim, and it is pain/expensive to find!
i have a 56 belair hardtop that was missing some chrome trim and the bumpers , i found all the parts on ebay. most are nice used parts and new clips and small parts.
Love the look of four door hardtops, especially 56 models. Still remember the day I first saw one in 1967. No need to convert a four door sedan into a two door when the hard top has such great styling. Keep the vids coming Dan and Dani. Watch them all. 🤩
If I were looking for a tri-five, this would be invaluable. Thank you for all the great videos, both entertaining and informative. Old cars are expensive, but so are new ones. And new trucks? HOLY CRAP. I never thought I'd see the day when a "pickup" -not a semi- could go for a hundred grand. US. That's just insane. Anyway, a late Merry Christmas to you, and an early Happy New Year!
Hope Santa was good to y'all! Let's see what future Dan will do with his first 2 door conversion of a 2012 Prius!! Talk about hard to find parts. Hope Steve heals up soon. Keep on keeping on!!
I just wanted to say I got a dog named Frankie about the same age as yours and I admire you guys big time. I guarantee you have inspired and get people going
The prices went up because government is corrupted and everyone is trying to get more money to help survive.you are a100% correct on this Dan . But most people don’t even have close to your talent. When it comes to building tri fives. I totally enjoy watching your videos.
Thanks, Dan....and Dani. Always great content. I love the '55s. I used to prefer '57s but you helped me see the error of my ways 😂 I think the rise in price is due to increased demand which is partially a result of channels like yours helping people believe that they, too can restore a Tri-Five and people and businesses are getting wise and in effect taking advantage of the trend. I have a '61 Corvair I bought for dirt cheap, that needed some mechanical work 2 years ago and I've seen the asking price of the same level quality Corvair more than double. Get as many Tri-Fives as you can back on the road! I'm looking forward to more '56 Chevy pickup content.
I have a 56 4 door post car with a ton of work done including full floor pans and all new interior that I've ran out of gas on putting back together. I live in south Indiana. $8500
I am amazed how the 4 doors have become popular and valuable. At one point they were worth next to nothing. The 2 and 4 door wagons and hot right now. I own a 55 2 door post and a 1956 two door handyman 150 wagon. I searched everywhere for a Patina Nomad and settled for the wagon. 10 years ago the 2 and 4 doors didn’t have much value. I would still trade my wagon for a Nomad. NOTHING LIKE A NOMAD!!! You have great information as usual. Keep on keeping on!!!
Thank you for the great info. It will work to find the right Hot rod and work the fixings on it. The parts for the right price too. Sweet. Keep up the great work.
I've posted many times about my first car a 56 Chevrolet 150 2dr sedan 235 six with a three-speed transmission. My grandfather bought it from the original owner around 1961 and gave 400 dollars for it. Now this car was around five or six years old and was in fair shape (body on the car was rust free). My grandfather gave it to my dad for us kids to drive (of course I glommed on to it as mine). We fixed the car mechanically and dad put a good paint job on it. He let me pretty much take the car apart (to a point but none of that "hot rod" crap). Now we are in the present times and these cars are as we know going on seventy years old and there are few that are not rotted out in the common places you mentioned. This a good example of supply and demand (and greed) as these cars are desirable and of course there are many pieces available aftermarket, but also expensive. It is the nature of the beast and anyone who is just getting into fixing these cars (or any other car) has to realize that one sources of good used stuff and spend the money well regarding replacing original rotted out major assemblies such as floor pans and such. If one does not have the skills to make some pieces and has no basic skills such as welding and such best for them to fork out the do ray me and buy one already done up. The quote is "there is a sucker born every minute" and of course "buyer beware". Buy with your head and not your heart and if your head doesn't know you had better get yourself educated. Would I like to own another 56 Chevrolet? Sure, I would but my head says it is too damn expensive, so my heart is just going to have to get over it.
Dan a couple years ago I stumbled on your channel and ended up buying a 4 door 55 and converted it to 2 door. I am putting a fiberglass front end and have both front fenders and the hood. This car was built in van nuys California and I bought it in Arizona. In the video you said you are looking for a hood. I would be willing to sell it, only issue is I’m in Henderson nv. Let me know if you are interested. Love the videos
Not to mention that if you are starting out, there is always the expense of the tools and equipment to repair and replace panels, not to mention having to learn how to do it and make mistakes. I learn things to be self sufficient and that is where the investment of tools and equipment pays off in the end. Don't buy snap on just because.
It seems to me, that if all things tri-five are getting so expensive, you have to be careful to get enough money when you sell them. The work you do on these cars is very valuable as well.
Your $ is converted at same rate as Australian AUD to USD, but you have cheaper shipping advantage an closer. For me to build from builder to driver with trim would be circa 100k with paint. Most other things from migration to humour is so similar to English side of Canada 🇨🇦
Maybe prices will be better when Canada becomes the 51st state, trying to look on the bright side. My Grandad lived in Edmonton for many years I visited a few times back in the 70's loved being there. Always great videos love you guys wonderful skills great tri 5s hope your puppy gets well
I love my 56 4 door I payed 8500 it ran poorly but ran best part it was rust free someone brush painted the underneath of the car a long time ago. And it sat in a garage for 40 years.
Caught me by surprise today... I started up your video and was arranging parts around the Garage listening to you going on and on and on "Blah blah blah blah "Stop licking you foot!!!" Blah blah blah.." Made me look to see who the heck was licking their foot! Lol...
Always stand behind the car and have the owner start it so you can watch the exhaust for smoke and learn what the color of smoke means because some people think they have a blown engine or head gasket but a bad ignition coil or stuck injector will smoke like a bad head gasket. You can buy a 30,000 car for 5,000 because you learned what to look for. Dan is giving you great advice.
In the lower US a rusty 57 4 dr wagon or sedan (fairly complete minus motor & trans) goes for 7k to 10k. They want top dollar for used "repairable (rusty)" parts. I gave up on my 57 4dr to 2 dr wagon I was trying to build. I just keep building 65 to 72 C10's & 70 to 74 Nova's I can find that stuff cheap still
Hi there guys there one in Australia 1957 150 .for sale for 30 thousands dollars unfinished car not bad price seen it in all ready in Australia And it's a two door mate ihope you Had a great merry Christmas and I hope you have a great happy new year guys
I have a 57 Bel Air Sedan. Some rear fender Trim that got run over after the previous owner crunched it, I am going to 3D print a replacement, in case anyone is into that. I bought mine in 08 for $3500, I put about 5,000 in, but the engine and trans were good. A T350 and sbc350, did the Wilwood front brakes.. I have to do the rear shock brace. BECAUSE THEIR STOMACH CAN'T HANDLE IT!!! wow and now he has pancreatitis and I spend $500 on just medication 😔
Parts costs are so out of proportion now, Buying a decent driver may be the way to go. It's almost not worth restoring anything right now unless its a special car that's insanely valuable when finished. My current 56 corvette project has me rethinking my life choices as it bleeds me dry.
First mistake ..." corvette " ....did one years ago swore i never would again ! For the last 25 years i stick with steel tri fives you can keep those fiberglass flyers 👍🤣
Dan, as you must have plenty tri five four doors; is it possible to weld the four door exterior window stainless to make a nice two door sedan window stainless without the seams? Might require a couple 4 door sets to make a two door set.....possibly do a video on salvaging four door parts for 2 doors!
I got a 55 rear end making a little noise. I got a line on a junkyard 74 Nova 10 bolt $55 . fix on the 55 or do the 10 bolt swap? I can weld. Aren't they both about the same strength? A least Steve doesn't have to wear the cone of shame.
hay dan when are you going to come out with a shirt that says " what would Murr do " lol that would be funny and im sure Murr would get a kick out of it
Honest?!? Pshhhh you schmoo your cars up and ask top dollar!
race car stuff
you pull rotted plymouths with no frame and try to sell them as in pretty good shape,,for usa dollars..lol
Lol
Poor puppy dog 😢
Wish “Steve” a good quick recovery and thanks to Dan & Danni for a great overview of old car issues.
Thanks!
I love the 56's. I've owned two different 56 wagons, one two door and one four door. Send them my way please! Steve, feel yah buddy, feel yah.
Always great to hear about your experiences with Tri-5s over the years. I’ve learned so much. Cheers!! 😊
That blue ‘55 has turned out so nice. I know you’re not doing a full restoration, but honestly the car is so nice that I could see putting at least a little more into it. Great job with it.

Hang in there Steve! we're pulling for ya!
Great explanation on tri-fives. With all the cars you've done you could say you're an expert on costs & repairs. Thanks for this video. Well done.
🤣🤣🤣 I love my 56 150. Not only is my first tri five but it’s absolutely rust free.
Seems like everything i find in the southern US is 3 times the prices you mentioned. It sucks being poor 😩. Great video as usual Dan and Dani!
“Are we going to focus on the dog or the talent?” More of the dog, please. 😉
Wishing Steve a speedy recovery this holiday season...😁
Thanks so much

Yeah. Some "restored" cars are junk
I like that you gave your dog a people name . I had one years ago named Carl , always made me chuckle .😁
Haha they're part of the family
I really love that 4 door car leave it be Dan please
Another great episode. Merry Christmas Dan and Dani.

There’s inflatable cone now too. Not such an impact on the pups neck when they run into things.
I like the 56’s the best
It’s great to have you share your knowledge and experience with what to look for when buying a tri five
55 two door post is my favorite tri five
hey, calm down over there. i like a 56. depending on the build 55 or 56 (dont care for the front bumper/grille or dash on 57). i have a 56 bel air 2dr sedan. was/is missing trim, and it is pain/expensive to find!

Hard to compare the pre-covid world to the world of today. Everything took a big jump in price for absolutely no reason.
Filler vid, LOL! Seriously, I don't think it's possible to overstate how important condition and an honest skill level appraisal can be
Love the look of four door hardtops, especially 56 models. Still remember the day I first saw one in 1967. No need to convert a four door sedan into a two door when the hard top has such great styling.

Thank you for the great info. It will work to find the right Hot rod and work the fixings on it. The parts for the right price too. Sweet. Keep up the great work.
The day Dan saves the tri-five world. I like that.
Thanks for the video Dan & Dani.
Always carry a small magnet with you to check for bondo they will use it everywhere even on the frame so if it looks to good to be true check it over
Love a 56
Let's freaking go 🔥 their isn't a better look then a gasser try five 🏁💯💨

Another good one.

It seems to me, that if all things tri-five are getting so expensive,
you have to be careful to get enough money when you sell them.
The work you do on these cars is very valuable as well.

Canadistan shipping can be the same price as the part! For bigger parts most of us run to the US border and pick them up ourselves.
You mean the AUP? (Australian Peso).
Maybe prices will be better when Canada becomes the 51st state, trying to look on the bright side. My Grandad lived in Edmonton for many years I visited a few times back in the 70's loved being there. Always great videos love you guys wonderful skills great tri 5s hope your puppy gets well
Dan, Daniel my brother! Great video! Steve, get well soon buddy! Signed, your friend - Cancer guy.
Good thing we're not all the same because I think 56 is best looking out of the 3
I agree, but I may be prejudiced as that was my first car. 2dr ht belair. Paid $650 in '76 , still have it!
I had my 57 4 door hardtop for 18 years!! Nice looking car built over time and hated to sell it but the cash went to a good cause my 2023 C8!!!
I like is the 56. Sorry Dan! I like the 210 series best of the 1956
Great information, it really applies to all Vehicles, thanks for sharing, all the best to yous and your loved ones
Lol...

In the lower US a rusty 57 4 dr wagon or sedan (fairly complete minus motor & trans) goes for 7k to 10k. They want top dollar for used "repairable (rusty)" parts. my 57 wagon roller project was $2000. a year ago. it runs and drives now.
Heresapan Heresapan Heresapan. Dan sounds like a 90s prescription salesman with the latest greatest pain killer.
Hi there guys there one in Australia 1957 150 .for sale for 30 thousands dollars unfinished car not bad price seen it in all ready in Australia
And it's a two door mate ihope you Had a great merry Christmas and I hope you have a great happy new year guys
Dan can gripe, but I guarantee he hides the costs of his daily driver Ferrari repairs.
I was missing the horn ring on my 65 Pontiac. Looked for it for 15 years. Never found one. Sold it.
It actually comes down to whether you're happy with what you got. There will always be someone that picks it to pieces. Take your time look it over good if they won't let you do that walk away. Anything is fixable, if you're happy with what you bought then keep that mindset.
Just want to say hi Dan and Daniel. Hope you all had a great Christmas. Keep up the good work God bless and have a blessed night
I love 1956!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The 305 55 is a perfect car for a cruiser to me as long as it’s dependable hope Steve is well
Great video, thanks for the tips.
Yep every Friday I would buy my dog Jeb for plain cheeseburger without onions and pickles or condiments just a burger with cheese only and he just turned nine years old on the 8th and I had to take him to the vet because he wasn't doing good, and the vet said aggressively STOP GIVING YOUR DOGS HUMAN FOOD!!! BECAUSE THEIR STOMACH CAN'T HANDLE IT!!! wow and now he has pancreatitis and I spend $500 on just medication 😔
Get well Steve
Hope your dog gets better
Parts are crazy for cars any more money pits but I keep building them its in my blood
Take good care of your beautiful fur babies Dan and Dani. 👍🎄 And then please at least paint that hood blue on the crew cab 55
My marketplace searches lately are strangely ending up on Tri - fives , I completly blame you , Dani , and your dogs
Good video and hope Steve is doing better 👍
Get well Steve!!!
Well wishes for the pup!
Good information. Thanks Dan.

Wait a minute, we’re going to talk tri-five Chevys on DD speed shop? I’m flummoxed!😮 Hey teach, you need to carry the illuminated pointer with you!
i agree with floor pans, got to go to reg and get one myself
Thank you for all the information Helps me out a lot
Good schooling Dan about Cars Feel better Steve
I do have some 55 parts for sale hood, hood bar headlight buckets, park lights tail lights , inside window trim all off a two door post car.
Thanks, this was very informative and helpful. ❤️😎
a two door conversion should have glass in the back and roll down windows
Dan, as you must have plenty tri five four doors; is it possible to weld the four door exterior window stainless to make a nice two door sedan window stainless without the seams? Might require a couple 4 door sets to make a two door set.....possibly do a video on salvaging four door parts for 2 doors!
I got a 55 rear end making a little noise. I got a line on a junkyard 74 Nova 10 bolt $55 . fix on the 55 or do the 10 bolt swap? I can weld. Aren't they both about the same strength? A least Steve doesn't have to wear the cone of shame.
