Only a hopeless romantic with deep pockets and/or supreme fabrication skills, determination, resourcefulness, and perseverance would look upon that "before" picture, remain undaunted, and actually bring it back. Just re-producing all those contoured glass panels is a major achievement. Huge respect for Tom and his ilk. And that gorgeous coral and creme livery? MWAH!!!

Yeah I’m thinking a million dollars or close in fabrication of parts and who knows what this guy paid to own it. Pretty amazing to me and personally I prefer this over billionaires spending the same money on spending 10 seconds in space! They can do as they wish but this is something that gets shared with people many people on video and part of our American culture and history. I think you and I are a little romantically inclined to understand what it took!

@@maxwebster7572I learned to drive in my mom's 66 mustang. That car was just a Ford falcon with a nice body on it. That said I would still rather own that than most of today's cars because it's basic an easy to work on then any of today's cars. I currently have a 2015 mustang which I would not trust unreliability as much as that old I have had four other mustangs through the years and 4 Ford pickups from 69 model up to 97model and also a 79 bronco. While they don't drive as good as the newer cars and trucks they are so much easier to work on. I do almost all my maintenance on my older vehicles from replacing transmissions in many engine components to suspension components. The 97 truck involved drop in the whole front differential to change the oil pan gasket but still easier to work on in the newer models. I don't touch my mustang's mechanicals.

the more you put that person in a box and put it far away like that the more you forget that anybody can do this and more with some time, dedication, and skill. its not all brands and buy-another-one-in-better-shape in real life.
that's what makes classic cars so special. and just because anybody can doesn't mean everybody wants to so there's always gonna be mechanic jobs with classic cars don't worry. if you want something scary and untouchable with everything inside it being a mystery, just look at today's computerized road blobs they somehow call "cars".

Surely that is one of the most significant concept cars ever, looks like a custom car for the turnpike and a stock car for the track. And so awesome that the gent who restored this Mercury wants everyone to see and hear and marvel over it, curious that many collectors buy cars only to turn them into coffee tables. And the sound of this, wow, somebody in the fabrication shop was a speed mechanic, lol.

My father (a B-25 bomber pilot during WWII) bought a brand new 1956 Mercury (with factory air conditioning). I was 13 and thought it was the coolest car on the road. But, when the ‘57s came out I was blown away with the styling. Now I understand how it came to be.
    Sure brought back memories.

My Parents had a Big Merc Station Wagon that vintage (1957), Air Conditioned, the biggest V8. We made a trip to LA, California from SE Louisiana. I remember we had to stop at some point on the way back home and buy two new rear tires. We also did Pikes Peak, Grand Canyon, Carlsbad Caverns, Meteor Crater, Painted Desert, Mesa Verde, and Dinosaur Mountain in that car on that same trip, It was a dream trip for me at 9 YO.

I remember being in Colorado for the Pikes Peak hillclimb in the fall of 1957, I’d just turned 11yo. I saw the 58 Mercury getting ready to go. It had all the chrome covered with masking tape in a not very successful attempt at camouflage. The tail lights and rear fin/cover were just larger and more pronounced versions of the 57. The next day we drove out 55 Chevy to the top, pausing for a couple of vapor-locks!
