Sal you missed the BIGGEST part of the Phoenix Force Five..... they were a P(eter), E(mma), N(amor), (I)llyanna and S(cott)... yes they are the Voltron of the 616 and for a GIANT. That's it spell it out.. Almost as good as Fear itself when they had a "Giant-Sized Man Thing" True Believers Nuff Said.
No, no, Namor is still atlantean, his mutations are his little wings in his ancles, he's a mutant within the atlanteans, in addition to being a human-atlanten hybrid
can I just say, I think in this one you are unfair on your depiction of cyclops and cap's interactions, and this coming from a big captain america fan, he arrived demanding Hope to be turned over to the avengers, who really didn't try to help much after the house of M fiasco, so he really should have at least try to get the x-men help or helping them instead of being all like "yeah we are going to take care of it, we don't need your help or anything but we are taking the person who's your one bet to solve the dire situation of your people, we cool?", so yeah even tough I don't like the way Cyclops handled it, I think he was more than justified to deny Cap's "request"
what the hell are the avengers even supposed to do to fix house of m and cyclops' faith in hope fixing the situation was such bs honestly and its just because they wanted cyclops to be a weird pheonix force cultist
Way late but for those wondering, Cyclops firmly believes Hope is gonna be the new Phoenix host following the events of Second Coming where in their hour of most need against Nimrod, Hope exhibits a Phoenix like surge of power and at the end of the book, a bonfire erupts into the image of The Phoenix thus causing Cyclops to get insanely devoted to the belief that shes Phoenix.
the Avengers had a brief cameo when Dark Phoenix first showed up, but they were protecting NYC, except for Beast, who helps contain Phoenix's power with a cool dampener thingy headset. Daredevil and Spidey are in there, way before they became Avengers. It was a good way to include the other superheroes. Claremont was smart to keep the other heroes unavailable in the direst parts of the Dark Phoenix saga..the AvX event divided almost all active superheroes (all the Xmen and New Mutants and everybody else) and every single Avenger who was alive, including Tigra, The Thing and Power Man, and the reserves) in two big camps again, even Moon Knight, who has a highlighted part around the middle of it. even the little kid Avengers Academy and kids at Xavier's school pitch in and fight. With the extent at which these heroes beat each other up to the point of drowning, injuring and imprisoning each other (and creating psychic visions of escaping imprisonment for those whom they took prisoner) it's a wonder any of them were ever friends again.
I laughed out loud _hard_ at "Watch what'll happen when I bring Wanda out...". And Crazy Post-Phoenix Cyclops is the most interesting Cyclops has been for decades. Another boss ep' guys.
(Sorry for my english). You made a mistake. When the event started it was Known that Hope was the fenix. In the first issue, Nova arrive to earth to advice the avengers that the fenix is coming to earth. Also Hope experienced some Fenix Energy extrange situation when she was talking with ciclops and Tony Stark was monitoring phoenix energy so everyone was aware that the Phoenix force was coming to Earth to take Hopes body. (:
I think my favorite parts from this event are both of spiderman. When he stays and fights colossus and magik and gets the shit kicked outta him was awesome. And then when he talks to hope about responsibility, really liked that part.
I love when you guys do Back Issues! Its always fun watching peoples reaction to these great comics. Next Back Issues can you do Marvel Zombies, but only the ones that are written and drawn by Robert Kirkman and Sean Phillips
Cyclops Was Right. And stop painting Cap like he was being reasonable or anything remotely like that, he literally invaded Utopia uninvited, and treated all mutants like potential villains before they did anything. Besides, the Avengers protected Scarlet Witch after what she did, and even defended Xavier out of pure convenience. This whole event was staged to make the X-Men villains, and basically make the Avengers look good, none of the events in comics are real, they are written by ppl paid by a corporation. In other words, the X-Men arent bad, or Cyclops is a lunatic (well, that, a bit), Mutants got frame by the corporation that they kept afloat for decades. Marvel has actively screwed the X-Men over at any given chance, specially if they can make the Avengers look good in the process. Just look at HOW UGLY marvel NOW Cyclops is...His costume is one of the dumbest things marvel has ever published, then again, to force X-Men readers into other comics (fuck that).
This whole event was done when the avengers where making marvel tons of money with the movies and it couldn't make money off the Fox Xmen movies. So the whole event feels like a middle finger to xmen fans. Cyclops was treated horribly this whole event and for years after. And strangely they wrote him as the villian when the avengers acted like douches the whole story and in the end hope used the pheonix to bring back mutants so he was right
I wanna first say that I subscribed to you guys a few days ago and really do think you giys are funny and entertaining. But I gotta say, as a longtime fan of both Marvel and DC, I feel that you purposefully make every storyline sound as dumb as possible without really talking about the great moments of the stories. Yes, there are plenty of illogical and unnecessary things that happen in certain stories but it's comics. Comics always balance the ridiculous and the anazing and most of the time, the stories are just great and fun to read. I'm alot like Sal in that most of my friends don't read comics and I usually have to explain things to them. But I do it in a way that shows I really love these characters and stories and it makes my friends want to look into these stories too. I feel Sal tries to make Ethan and Ben think all the stories and characters are as stupid as he thinks they are just because. Now i'm not telling Sal that you should have a different opinion. I completely respect it. But I feel the good and the bad points should be discussed, not just what you think is dumb. Also, after watching a bunch of episodes, it seems like the only characters that Sal doesn't think are lame are Spider-Man and Batman. Great characters like Hawkeye, Jean Grey, Magik, Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver, Inhumans, Green Arrow, etc, have all been called lame by Sal and again, I respect his opinion but I feel he doesn't necessarily give alot of them a chance. Anyway, I realize it seems that I don't like u guys but I honestly do enjoy the show and I think you guys are funny and at times I do agree with you. However, I disagree with you about probably 95% of the stories and characters lol. I'll keep watching though. I'd like to see you do Spider-Verse soon. Probably my favorite Marvel story this year.
Kevin Marques Thanks for watching, but no--- nobody's deliberately trying to make people think comics are dumb. Actually, we bring in a lot of new or lapsed readers into buying comics, so we're doing something right.
That is pretty cool that you've gotten more ppl into comics. I can respect that. I don't know, I guess I've just always found reasons to love certain characters and don't get why ppl hate some of them. I feel too many ppl base whether a character is cool or not on what their powers are and I always go by their personalities. Yes, Hawkeye just shoots a now and arrow but he's an anti-authority badass. Wasp can just shrink but one of my favorite Avengers eras was when she was the leader and even made Hercules respect her leadership. Anyway, I'm still looking forward to your next video and bingewatched a bunch today lol. Keep doing what you're doing.
+ComicPOP! Wow you still respond too comments from your old episodes of Back Issues I remember this as my first episode so this story in general is nostalgic for me.
How could I leave this has been the place I go too learn about comics and your show has inspired me too buy the new secret wars title so i could explain that too my friends who know little about Marvel besides the MCU so if they want too read Marvel after Secret Wars they will be caught up on everything thst has happened.
"When different people writed it" (2:02) DAMMIT ETHAN...And "phoenix force five" abbreviated is "PFF." An obvious reference to the reaction they knew they would get from the readers "Pfffffffffffft."
This could have been one book. Magneto spins Wolverine's body like a giant blender of death and shreds every member of the Avengers to death. The End. Also, to answer Ethan's question about why Wolverine wants to kill hope, Wolverine tries to solve all of Marvel's problems with time travel, murder, or both (in the case of Ultron).
This is the book that got me back into comics. Once I heard that Scott (my favorite character) was now essentially a villain--and had been shacked up with Emma Frost (my favorite Marvel card)--I knew it was time to stop spending my money on sensible things. My only real problem is that they couldn't come up with a better setup for Scott killing Xavier. I love it, and I love the fallout, but...the Phoenix is stupid. It's always been stupid. Even Emma Frost as the Phoenix is stupid, and Emma makes everything better.
Titally agree theDoubleHELO, this was the comic that got me back in as well, but at that point I was so confused with what was going on. Thats why im glad there are shows like this to clarify some things
Peter Truong Ha! Yeah, man, I was probably just as lost as you were: "Who in the hell is Nova? And why is there a magical kung-fu city? And...Colossus has a sister? Next you're gonna tell me Xavier can wal--holy crap Xavier can walk?!"
I really enjoyed the eevet as a whole for the Marvel Universe. Although I agree the Phoeinx Five was a little flat. However The real gens came after. A small Series called Avergers vs X-men: Consequenses. Its a little filler story but its essential to Scott Summers becoming a anti-hero, or a Terrorist in the worlds eyes. Which is the best thing about the event.
Hate being late to the party, but I just discovered this series and I'm presently binging them, and I have no idea if this was corrected later. I know Sal isn't big on the X-Men, but I'll just put this in the comments section for future reference. Cable was the son of Cyclops and Madelyne Pryor (another psychic redhead, who later turned out to be a Jean Grey clone made by Mr. Sinister), who later went nutter butters during the Inferno event and killed herself. Baby Cable (Bable?) is later infected with a techo-organic virus by Apocalypse during the X-Tinction Agenda event and then is sent into the future to control the virus with his telekinetic abilities and get really old, really big, and acquire 23987 pockets and huge guns.
i wouldve liked this story better if they used rachel grey instead of hope since shes an actual character instead of just a plot device like hope and they couldve tried to use rachel as a way to get through to cyclops as someone who held the power of the phoenix force before and as his (albeit alternate reality) daughter
I think you meant to say Techno-Virus when talking about Cable's metallic arm. I enjoy this series very much. My cousin showed me a video a few days ago and now I can't stop watching. Keep up the good work guys.
This event gets so much hate... I actually quite liked it except for the fact that it was a bit messy. The end sure was surprising to me and it opened doors for cool storylines.
"There will be a 'Pheonix-Canno' and it will come out... and... bwaa-haaa, and Mu-topia will explode and then a volcano, the some shooting out of it... then mining!" - LOL!!!
When this eventually gets adapted into a movie for the MCU (that title's too good to pass up) it is going to be like Age of Ultron and have almost both to do with the comic of the same name and I'm 100% cool with that
I just found these and I love them but you guys got a lot wrong. Cable was born in this timeline. He's infected with a techno organic virus. They pretty much state Hope was created by the phoenix force.
Yay. My Omnibus of this event came in today alongside your episode. Pretty awesome. :D As awkward as this event was, I did love the Triple F and their costume changes.
There was one scene in i think issue two, where Dr strange is fighting the x-men with the Avengers, then out of nowhere a portal opens up causing dr strange to leave to go fight demons instead of the x men. That scene really confused me. Oh well, it was probably explained in another comic.
Best Fights from Avengers vs Xmen. Some are from AVX Versus: (no order) (Small Spoilers.. sort of) Captain America vs Gambit Spiderman Vs Colossus Spiderman vs Phoenix Colossus and Magik Magneto vs Iron Man (Probably the best fight) Avengers vs Phoenix Namor Others I cant remember
Sometimes....it's hard to defend my boy, Bishop...but, I'll die alone on this hill with Bishop & Old Man Logan. Also, You should break everyone's heart with Old Man Quill...
"Cyclops was really stupid in this book" Yes but it starts before that. He became much more paranoid and militaristic after House of M and wants to train the young mutants as soldiers. He just goes cra cra
Forgot to mention that Hope was training in K'un lun for the latter third of the book, and it's the positive and negative energy to destroy the phoenix. Also, i kinda liked the Iron Man aftermath issues. Tony's a gladiator and fights Deaths Head.
TVLittleHouse In short: Magneto trains Hope, gets Hope the Phoenix first, manipulates her, betrays/kills her, gets the Phoenix Force and almost instantly loses control and scorches the earth. Ends with Wolverine sleeping with a reincarnated Jean Grey...
ComicPOP! "What If" is a whole series of stories Marvel would tell back in the day that were like alternate realities, "What If" Magneto got the phoenix force get it you guys are comic pop how do you not know this
TVLittleHouse off topic, but do you guys think fury knows the enchantment that odin could re sight to make thor unworthy? Maybe it's an ancient as guardian secret connected only to thee king bore, odin, thor blood line
This whole video was great! Best 2 moments were: Ethan: at 15:14 (covers his face & says) "Oh My God". Followed by a sigh. Second one, Ben at 6:44 says," Clearly it's Biological and NOT Divine!" Awesome stuff my brothers from other mothers! Kudos!
I would love it if you did the second coming storyline. I read the half where hope comes home and everything but never found out what happened with the red orb thing. I would love to hear you guys talk about that.
i loved cyclops, i mean certain ppl of certain backgrounds were on cyclops side because capt, wait ill just say America came to a country where their not wanted and basically wanted to kidnap a child of a country. if ur native american, black, etc understand cyclops reasoning. i mean if if capt sorry america said were willing to stay on ur land n help u with anything needed there wouldnt be a war
The Phoenix Force isn’t EVIL, it’s a natural part of the multiverse. You wouldn’t say a cat eating a bunny is evil, it’s natural. The Phoenix Force corrupts it’s host because humans/mutants/etc. aren’t use to omniversal power. It’s the whole power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely. Usually the Phoenix Force just flies across the multiverse just creating mutation and enacting change.
Spiderman issue (AvX #9, i think), was the highlight of the whole story; also the X-men believe that Hope is the Phoenix since she diplayed signs of it before ir came to earth
I feel bad for you guys after this back issue, Ethan and Ben arguing the muttered reality that is related to mutants in the 616 universe...and poor Sal trying to make sense out of it all, none the less, good effort guys
Namor is the “first mutant” because he’s the first mutant to ever appear in a Marvel Comic, not because he’s the oldest or the first mutant born. Apocalypse was said to be the “first mutant” because he’s the first to be born in the Marvel timeline but even that is debated
I'm a big defender of this event because it's a big, dumb fight that doesn't lie about the depths of the characters' motivations. Plus, Colossus Phoenix is great. Bought trades since I started watching Back Issues: 13
its stuff like this which is why I would prefer the avengers stay out of xmen stories the phoenix was always an xmen thing it should have remained that way.
Interesting vid, but there's a few mistakes in it. Cable's Madelyn Prior & Scott Summer's son, Jean isn't his mom (her clone is). And Cable has the Techno-Organic (or T.O.) Virus, not the Legacy Virus.
I liked it. It was unique enough to keep me reading. The story is entertaining but it was kind of dead from the beginning. Still, I found my self interested in this niche/side story. :D
simple: nobody can control the phoenix and Wanda needed an infinite power every time she alters reality on that scale...nobody is that powerful if so stark's ego might kill her personally like a control freak...there is a reason the Xmen line up coincides with this 12 part too...too bad he said he wasn't reading xmen...for marketing reasons of course but there are some light for it...they showed how both sides tried to look for solutions...and why each sides says they can handle the situation better...xmen experience vs (i am biased here) and the avengers man power influence tech magic etc...thus A VS X is the title...and for the last question Hope is there to resist the overwhelming influence...even the great jean grey have succumbed to it...if any of the five has that ability to resist (which they don't) then by all means complain about Hope...that is why she was significant... I am not her fan...I'm just so okay they didn't bring the zombified jean grey back to life again to handle the "phoenix" situation...she's totally staying dead. also if the mutants are endangered which they were at this point...it doesn't matter how many mutants pops up as long as they are born...like a pandas...
the show is great. i enjoy it, the little mistakes on details (i.e. cable's stuff) are annoying. if you guys need help with x-men details, feel free to ask me. still, love the show.
Pick it up here: amzn.to/2ecgoZa
C'mon Sal, Magik is pretty awesome.

Oh, My sides, lmao.
Bishop chases Cable because he believes Hope grows up to be the mutant that starts the 6 minute war in his reality, leading to the dystopian future
THANK you. Totally missed this.
@@comicpop Good! It was character assassinly dumb.😁
I love Ethan's exasperated whisper when finding out Namor is a mutant. "Oohhhh my goooooooddd...."
he's the first mutant
No, no, Namor is still atlantean, his mutations are his little wings in his ancles, he's a mutant within the atlanteans, in addition to being a human-atlanten hybrid
Captain Comet god that's fucked
jeez
Thaaanks that explains allot
Actually, Cable is not the son of Scott Summers and Jean Grey. He's the son of Scott Summers and Madelyne Pryor, Jean Grey's clone.
Thanks man. You're in good company.
+ComicPOP Do you ever decide to read graphic novels or trade paperbacks? They're like regular comics but all the issues in one nice great book.
Also, Cable doesn’t have the legacy virus. He has a techno-organic virus that was implanted in him in the future.

Yay. My Omnibus of this event came in today alongside your episode. Pretty awesome. :D As awkward as this event was, I did love the Triple F and their costume changes.
I love it when you zoom in on Ben's reactions. I crack up every time. Classic
Cable ages kind of like Cyborg Clint Eastwood. as i get more crotchety I see where he's coming from more and more
There was one scene in i think issue two, where Dr strange is fighting the x-men with the Avengers, then out of nowhere a portal opens up causing dr strange to leave to go fight demons instead of the x men. That scene really confused me. Oh well, it was probably explained in another comic.
You mentioned "X-Men Schism". In a future "Back Issues" could you discuss/review/explain that one? I'm really interested.
Best Fights from Avengers vs Xmen. Some are from AVX Versus:
(no order) (Small Spoilers.. sort of)
Captain America vs Gambit
Spiderman Vs Colossus
Spiderman vs Phoenix Colossus and Magik
Magneto vs Iron Man (Probably the best fight)
Avengers vs Phoenix Namor
Others I cant remember
Spiderman vs Phoenix Colossus and Magik
Best one for me
Sometimes....it's hard to defend my boy, Bishop...but, I'll die alone on this hill with Bishop & Old Man Logan.
Also, You should break everyone's heart with Old Man Quill...
"Cyclops was really stupid in this book"
Yes but it starts before that. He became much more paranoid and militaristic after House of M and wants to train the young mutants as soldiers. He just goes cra cra
i mean isn't that the whole point of the x-men. so that they could be trained to use their powers to protect others and themselves.
Here's something I've always been interested again. I can't wait.
31:31 - Yeah, I don't think I'll pick this one up. Thanks for another great show guys.
Forgot to mention that Hope was training in K'un lun for the latter third of the book, and it's the positive and negative energy to destroy the phoenix. Also, i kinda liked the Iron Man aftermath issues. Tony's a gladiator and fights Deaths Head.
Yo I need that sonic the hedgehog shirt it's so cool
yo Sal, there is a what if comic where Magneto did get the Phoenix force. pretty cool
What is it?
TVLittleHouse In short: Magneto trains Hope, gets Hope the Phoenix first, manipulates her, betrays/kills her, gets the Phoenix Force and almost instantly loses control and scorches the earth. Ends with Wolverine sleeping with a reincarnated Jean Grey...
ComicPOP! "What If" is a whole series of stories Marvel would tell back in the day that were like alternate realities, "What If" Magneto got the phoenix force get it you guys are comic pop how do you not know this
This is my favorate episode but did you guys really think that wolverine never banged Jean gray. ITS WOLVERINE!! He bangs EVERYONE!!
Wow so what marvel events are worth reading, cus all ive been reading now is the amazing spiderman
I love these, i start one and play Civ 5. I laugh for 30 minutes and repeat cycle. LOL Thanks guys.
TVLittleHouse off topic, but do you guys think fury knows the enchantment that odin could re sight to make thor unworthy? Maybe it's an ancient as guardian secret connected only to thee king bore, odin, thor blood line
Most likely, according to Original SIn
I understand that, the reason I was saying this is because everyone is puzzled is to what he could of possibly said
I cannot help but think that issue one's cover looks like a dream Capcom AVX game lol!
But wait, wasn't Apocalypse the first mutant?
Depends on who you ask. Thanks for all your questions.
Sounds like the triple F are a classic example of the Law of Conservation of Ninjutsu
This whole video was great! Best 2 moments were: Ethan: at 15:14 (covers his face & says) "Oh My God". Followed by a sigh.
Second one, Ben at 6:44 says," Clearly it's Biological and NOT Divine!"
Awesome stuff my brothers from other mothers!
Kudos!
A giraffe's coffee would be cold by the time it reached the bottom of its throat. Ever think about that? No. You only think about yourself.
Portal sucks
*"The Phoenix would have to come back and do that to her."*
poor thing the Phoenix does come back😂but not for Hope. Hope goes for the Phoenix...
I would love it if you did the second coming storyline. I read the half where hope comes home and everything but never found out what happened with the red orb thing. I would love to hear you guys talk about that.
So...some part of the Phoenix Force may have imprinted onto the Earth...?
i loved cyclops, i mean certain ppl of certain backgrounds were on cyclops side because capt, wait ill just say America came to a country where their not wanted and basically wanted to kidnap a child of a country. if ur native american, black, etc understand cyclops reasoning. i mean if if capt sorry america said were willing to stay on ur land n help u with anything needed there wouldnt be a war
What is the difference between Cosmic and Magic and Science?
+Bryan Leong They're like the same thing, but with fundamental differences.
Great episode! I have read the novel before and this was a great recap of it.
Scott is right the mutant race is powerless.
This is my 2nd favorite event behind Secret Invasion!
Why tf does cap look like that at 2:23?! lmao
A real representation of the U.S for once!
This show is awesome! You need to do the big 90s epic Onslaught
Yes. Yes we do.
I feel bad for you guys after this back issue, Ethan and Ben arguing the muttered reality that is related to mutants in the 616 universe...and poor Sal trying to make sense out of it all, none the less, good effort guys
Congrats on 20k
I've always been confused by this I thought Apocalypse was the first mutant
Namor is the “first mutant” because he’s the first mutant to ever appear in a Marvel Comic, not because he’s the oldest or the first mutant born. Apocalypse was said to be the “first mutant” because he’s the first to be born in the Marvel timeline but even that is debated
AvX is a really dumb story, but it got me back into comics so I have a soft spot for it.
Another great episode guys
Anyone love that "Mortal Kombat" scream around 19:13
I really enjoyed this
Thanks!
o___o What is the price on that AvsX #1 that's front and center? Looks super overpriced.
I'm a big defender of this event because it's a big, dumb fight that doesn't lie about the depths of the characters' motivations. Plus, Colossus Phoenix is great.
Bought trades since I started watching Back Issues: 13
Another good video, really enjoyed it
its stuff like this which is why I would prefer the avengers stay out of xmen stories the phoenix was always an xmen thing it should have remained that way.
Interesting vid, but there's a few mistakes in it. Cable's Madelyn Prior & Scott Summer's son, Jean isn't his mom (her clone is). And Cable has the Techno-Organic (or T.O.) Virus, not the Legacy Virus.
Good video. i thought it was okay to be honest, nothing special
could you guys do a back issue on doomwar if you can?
It's actually the Jean Grey School for Higher Learning, not the Jean Grey School for Gifted Youngsters. Just sayin'...
I think they did some mutant team called the lights which are kind of the x men for hope summers.
Could you do Crisis on Infinite Earths
Hi is the book with blue bits the same as orange
Do one of the Morrison X-men stories, please
I like Magik thu
y have you done this sal
I liked it. It was unique enough to keep me reading. The story is entertaining but it was kind of dead from the beginning. Still, I found my self interested in this niche/side story. :D
thank you.
simple: nobody can control the phoenix and Wanda needed an infinite power every time she alters reality on that scale...nobody is that powerful if so stark's ego might kill her personally like a control freak...there is a reason the Xmen line up coincides with this 12 part too...too bad he said he wasn't reading xmen...for marketing reasons of course but there are some light for it...they showed how both sides tried to look for solutions...and why each sides says they can handle the situation better...xmen experience vs (i am biased here) and the avengers man power influence tech magic etc...thus A VS X is the title...and for the last question Hope is there to resist the overwhelming influence...even the great jean grey have succumbed to it...if any of the five has that ability to resist (which they don't) then by all means complain about Hope...that is why she was significant...
I dont know if you already answered this but is the legacy virus the same as the techno organic virus? ComicPOP!
