At this point, I’d still give the players an option. But if a few of the big time stars get hit & lose some playing time, look for it to be mandatory. Remember, Nola got hit about 2 weeks ago & received a broken nose & missed 7 games.
I just watched Josh Smith’s at-bat in Monday's ORIOLES - RANGERS game (some of it was shown in slow-motion), and he was very fortunate, indeed, to have apparently escaped without serious injury. The CT scan came back clean and he cleared concussion protocols. He received six stitches to the right side of his face, but escaped with no structural damage to his face or jaw. I recall a number of years ago when one MLB pitcher who had previously been struck with a batted ball, wore a large cap with a protective lining when he took to the mound. And I’m not exactly sure how long the extended face guards have been utilized, but I believe there were several players who decided to wear a helmet with one prior to Giancarlo Stanton getting hit in the face when he was with the Miami Marlins. I don't currently believe MLB will mandate either a face guard on a batting helmet or a cap worn by a pitcher that has a protective lining. Is that a photograph of you in the catcher’s gear at age nine ? ⚾️⚾️⚾️ ROGER, The LOS ANGELES DODGER
Alex Torres was the pitcher that wore the padded hat, he pitched for the Padres, I said at the time, I'd rather get hit in the head, then wear the hat. I agree, I don't see MLB making it mandatory any time soon and no, that's not me in the picture, we didn't have cameras when I was a kid lol
Simply, yes
I agree

I agree, it will take a few big stars to be out for awhile for something to happen
