    Thank you very much for posting this video.
    I bought an Inspiron 15 3510 (Pentium Silver N5030, 4G RAM, 128GB NVMe) because of it - Dell should kick back a finder's fee or something. They don't even advertise the ability to expand with a 2.5" SSD SATA drive on their website, but seeing it here convinced me it was suitable for my storage needs. Straight forward process to access everything, your demonstration is clear and easy to follow.
    Using this video, upon receiving my Inspiron, I immediately opened it up, upgraded the RAM to 8GB (2400MHz), the NVMe drive to a 1TB WD Blue (with an EFI partition & fresh Linux install preloaded), and added a 2TB ADATA 2.5" SSD. The UEFI is unfamiliar to me, so it took some effort to figure out what needs to be changed, in order to boot the new NVMe drive, but once up, works like a charm.
    I plugged in a Kill-a-watt Meter, briefly, measure as high as 29W on boot, around 15W while running a GUI and charging, and dropping down to about 10W consumption at idle in the GUI with a charged battery. I am only at the first steps of getting all of the hardware configured in Linux, but wanted to give you a big thankyou before I forgot and moved on. I surely do appreciate it.
    .
    PS : If anyone installs & runs a 16GB/32GB stick of RAM in one of these machines, successfully, I'd like to hear about it. Intel claims the Pentium Silver N5030 has a RAM limit of 8GB, but with earlier generations of CPUs, those RAM limits could sometimes be breached with the right type of module density on RAM. Am also curious to hear about anyone using a high-capacity double-sided NVMe drive, or a high-capacity (9mm thick) 2.5" SATA drive. I *think* the 2.5" drive will fit without difficulty, but I'm never certain about double-sided NVMe drives.
    .

    I wish they would make cpu's replaceable on laptops . You have to buy a whole mew laptop about every 2 - 3 years.

    • @BrueComputing
      @BrueComputing  2 года назад +2

      Even when laptop CPUs could be upgraded, it rarely made a lot of sense. You couldn't fit a later generation chip as they wouldn't be socket or BIOS compatible and higher performance chips on the same generation often required additional cooling.
      The benefits of a soldered down CPU are in the reduced Z-height from not having a socket (allowing for thinner laptops), smaller overall footprint on the board (allowing for a smaller mainboard and more space for a larger battery) and higher speed/lower voltage signalling.

      The value would be fine - you'll have no benefit from the Fury Impact as it'll just run it at DDR4-2400 and JEDEC standard latencies anyway.
