CUT THE BATON at 31 AND A HALF INCHES LONG NOT 31 PLEASE TAKE NOTE. I NOW DO 5 ROUNDS FOR THE BASE AND 5 ROUNDS FOR THE POM POM LAYER WITH 4 X 100G BALLS OF DOUBLE KNITTING WOOL OR IN THE U.S.A. BASIC YARN.
I started making pom poms recently using a pom pom gadget. I have friends who make twiddle muffs for people with dementia and they mentioned how time consuming pom pom making was so I offered to help. I've never sewed or knitted so I had a quick lesson from my friends and now I'm really hooked on pom pom making. Through asking a question on a pom pom facebook group I've been introduced to your RUclips channel and I'm absolutely in love with your pom pom blanket video!! I can now see me taking the next step towards making a pom pom blanket. I'm in my 70s and never thought of myself as a crafts person but you have really inspired me. Thank you for the lovely enthusiastic and friendly way you presenr your videos, I can see myself becoming and ardent fan. 😊
Hi Alison I’ve watched most of your videos and have loved and learned so much from them but I keep coming back to see this one simply because of your complete delight in doing your first pom pom blanket, it’s really inspiring so much so you’ve given me the confidence at nearly 70 to give it a try thank you for taking your time to teach us all Carol xx
Thank you so much, Carol. Please remember to use 4 balls at a time and do 5 times around the frame for the bottom and 5 times again for the pom pom round a lot of people do 6 rounds for the pom pom round to make it even fluffier. If you do this it will not be too thin.
Oh Alison, what a charming lady you are. I can tell you I was 'yahooing' when it was completed. I truly love it & can't wait to try making it myself. I absolutely loved your comments at the end, I felt so very proud of your achievement. Good on you Alison, you are a wonderful inspiration to us all, cheers Tyree Ross...Australia
Alison, the rug or blanket is fantastic well done. I really want to try this out . Beautiful really beautiful 😻 your voice says it all . Thank you so much.
Love the clear tutorial, your accent, your enthousiasm and the fact you gave your first pompom blanket to the nurse's home raffle. You're quite the lady.
i love your tutorial, you explain every single thing to make sure we don't slip and cut the wrong thing, you repeat it over and over. Thank you so much and you did a great job, i'm starting my blanket tomorrow but i'm using white for my base and blue for the pom poms. again tank you so much
Ha Ha I was thinking she has not mentioned her sister Sandra in this on BUT.... near the end you did. Alison you are a delight... you sound so pleased I had a tear in my eye listening to you. You are a wonderful person and a delight to listen to. so genuine I was getting all excited with you. Its beautiful and such a kind gesture to give it to be raffled for your sisters work place xx Bless you
I will have to watch the loom one i cant remember if her name pops up on that one. My sister Sandra and I get on so well we are always sharing craft ideas. She wont do tutorials but gives me ideas to make mine. You do know she watches them to see if I mention her... I'm giving here a bit of stardom hahahah
Followed this tutorial and finally finished my first pompom blanket. I have friction burns on 4 fingers from the wool and trapped nerve in my thumb and it's gone numb.....but...the blanket is awsome. Great tutorial..will be doing another one when my fingers have recovered 😂
thank you for watching and I have added an amendment you get fuller pom poms by doing more rounds I now do 4 balls of wool and do 5 rounds for base and top. You can do less its up to you but I wouldn't do any less than 4 rounds now.
I carried on crafting with shoulder pain for 3 years... it now got so bad I can't use my arm, got to go for a scan on Tuesday to see what that problem is ... I've just bought a loom from eBay as I want to make a pom-pom blanket , but will now have to wait until my shoulder gets better, just don't ignore your pain ... believe me it will only get worse, as I found out, xx
Awesome for a first a first time i thought it was Supremely beautiful! Love the colors, I just started watching your you tube videos, im in the process of making my first one , im a disabled veteran, this is a great therapy!
Hi Alison I have been watching you do these blankets ,and today I thought I would buy a loom off your friend rose .so I ordered the car seat one for now see how I get on with that I can't wait to get it can't afford the stand yet but that's another reason to wait as well to see how I get on with it but your teaching inspired me thank you so much x
Thank you so much for watching. I started out with my own homemade stand made from the sides of an old wooden towel rail holder bought from a charity shop. My first 20 odd blankets were done with the frame on a towel on my table top.
this is amazing. when you were cutting round i couldnt believe how it came together and so much easier than tying pom poms onto a piece of pre made square 😊
It's lovely! Terrific tip about the band-aides. Have made a loom today and hands cramping so will be having a go at this tomorrow. Thanks for the inspiration 😄
Thank you very much Jenn I appreciate you watching and your lovely comments come join me on my Facebook page. We would love to see the blanket you make xx if you need help there are wonderful ladies who will keep you right
Thank you so much, I’ve just completed my first blanket with easy to follow instructions, thank you for giving up your time for people like me who want to learn. 👍👍👍
My mom made this one for me before my birth. (When she was pregnant with me) I'm very much stunned with the efforts she must have taken to make this blanket. Only mommy would do this for her baby. Love ALL those Mammas in the world who loves their babies 💕🤗😘
Yes it takes some time especially tying the pom poms. She probably tied it by hand and IT HURTS, believe me I had blisters and chapped fingers by the time I had finished my 1st blanket. Thank you for watching and glad you liked the video and wonderful news that it brought back happy memories xx
you can use 3 but it wont be so full it is best to use 4 and go around the loom 4 or 5 times. Thank you for watching sorry for the delay in answering. come join my craftytwunts Facebook page if you haven't already done so xx
Hi Alison, yes you're right it wold be too difficult. I will upload the rug I made for our grand daughter. She is 4 yrs old and loves blankets and Mickey Mouse lol. I have pictures of her with it when it wasn't complete. Thank you for the great idea !
if you do one do 5 rounds for both base and pom pom layer with 4 x 100g balls of wool or 4 balls of basic yarn if in the USA. 50g and 100g balls of wool are most common in UK but where I live its 100g I can get 2 blankets from my 8 balls of wool. or 1 blanket if I make it all the same color just using 4 balls.
I love it! I don't knit or crochet so I am so excited to try this. I am also going to make my loom following your video. I know I will be as excited as you if mine turns out as well as yours. Thank you so much for taking the time to share this.
Sooo beautiful! Congratulations on your first Pom-Pom blanket! You made such a lovely one! Thank you for showing us how you made your loom and blanket!💕😃
Thank you for watching xx Yes give it a go but I would go around the frame a few more times to make it thicker. I did 3 layers on the bottom now I would suggest at least 5 or 5 layers and at least 5 or 6 on the top pom pom colour. It was a bit difficult weaving the wool but id sit at a table next time with the frame propped up it will be much easier. I did it the way on the video because my wee rubbish webcam couldn't get it all into view. My friends online say the blankets sell well, I'v seen them on sale from £25 and up
Thank you for your channel. I just finished making my first pom pom blanket. I made it for my sister. She's about to have a baby. It came out great.! Thanks again.
new one on adding an adjustment bar to the loom to make it smaller for pillow pom pom covers etc. I made a new bigger loom to make cot blankets. Remember you can weave on the looms too they are not just for pom pom blankets. Thanks for the kind comment xx I will keep them coming. Sandra my sister is coming to visit im gonna make a tutorial with her that will be fun
Great tutorial Alison I Have just bought one today I didn't realise how much work goes into making them they are beautiful and soft I am going to back mine in a light weight fleece for a winter baby
That sounds good but don't wrap a baby in these pom pom ones as they are too warm and a baby can't regulate their body temp very well. They are for decorating the top of the pram ( the matching cover that comes with the pram) The fleece will add a terrific reversible option.
Great and come join my craft group craftytwunts where we can all help you if you need it. Remember to add flat brackets on the back at the corners to stop the frame twisting.
made my loom yesterday..and today I have put base colour on....I'm using cream as the base and yellow for the pom poms....if not. pink....can't wait to finish..lots more to do....your tutorial was excellent xx
I now use woolen gloves with the finger tips cut off its so much more comfortable no blisters or friction burns or cuts and I always shuttle tie now not hand tie.
yes its amazing what yo can make with wool . Please remember they are for decoration only for the top of the pram I would NOT recommend them for cots or play rugs as a small child may pull the pieces from the pom poms and eat them
Your welcome remember I now do 5 rounds for top and base with 4 x 100g balls of double knitting wool on my standard loom I just get two blankets and no more from 8 x 100g balls. This loom is not a turnover size the big turnover pink blanket tutorial takes more. I get I turnover and 1 doll pram size.
Thank you part 1 shows you how to make a loom. If you can't make one this lady sells both the new wooden peg type and cheaper ones made with nails. facebook.com/babypompombl.. her prices are very reasonable.
Alison Russell's Craft Channel Oh nice! I actually showed this to my dad yesterday, he's pretty handy with woodworking, but getting up in years, so we'll see. Thanks for the tip!!
I am Very Impressed. You made it for the 1st time and did it so easily. I am definitely going to try make one. Hope it turns to be successful like you.
They have been around a long time and are now very popular again. Thank you for watching. Did you only have pom pom ones or did they do other designs that far back??
Thank you I was and now even more so as I now do 5 rounds for base and pom pom top so so much fuller but as they say we all learn as we go along xx Thank you for your kind comment and for watching my tutorials xx
thank you for watching, I have been told some people have made their loom frame from old large wooden picture frames. I can see how that would work as its the right shape.
This absolutely stunning. My friend has had a baby boy a week. ago, i would have loved to make one but he would probably be about 15yrs old by the time i finish!! Your so good at weaving. 👍👍
Your enthusiasm is infectious. So much so that I must make one. Thank you for demonstrating. Your video is so clear and easy to follow. Kindest regards.
I absolutely love this thank you so much you have taught me so much, I followed your steps your advice and my blanket turned out beautiful thank you again
Thank you so much Remember and do the fluffing up tip I added to this channel as it makes a huge diffrence to the pom poms it makes them so much fluffier.
Thank you for sharing this video I’m trying to do a pompon blanket when going round the board again once you’ve filled your gaps in I’m finding that I’m not having the same amount of wool round my nails as the line before?? I’m sure I’ve gone wrong somewhere maybe 😩😩
Wow Alison, that is so beautiful, it is so going to be on my to do list. Thank you so so much for showing us how to do it and all your other projects you do to x
CUT THE BATON at 31 AND A HALF INCHES LONG NOT 31 PLEASE TAKE NOTE. I NOW DO 5 ROUNDS FOR THE BASE AND 5 ROUNDS FOR THE POM POM LAYER WITH 4 X 100G BALLS OF DOUBLE KNITTING WOOL OR IN THE U.S.A. BASIC YARN.
Is that 4x100g total or for both base and pom pom later 8x100g
If doing the base and pom poms in the same colour would that still be 4x100g balls for 10 rounds? Or 8x100g balls? x
Thank you for your tutorials, I would assume basic yarn & worsted weight are the same?
Hi Alison just did my first pompom blanket. Thanks for the fab tutorial ❤

Followed this tutorial and finally finished my first pompom blanket. I have friction burns on 4 fingers from the wool and trapped nerve in my thumb and it's gone numb.....but...the blanket is awsome. Great tutorial..will be doing another one when my fingers have recovered 😂

God bless you Alison for making this video, and the others! You're a good teacher. Thank you from FLORIDA, USA.
