    there are so many reviews discussing these lenses and each reviewer (yourself included) does a great job talking about the differences, but no reviewers show images by the 35/1.4@1.4 side by side to the same scene taken by the 35/2@2. that's all i really want to see, direct side by side comparisons if the lenses both wide open at their nearest focal length, a tight headshot (or similar photo like the one you did of the camera), a mid body shot or equivalent, and a full body shot or equivalent. these would highlight the differences (or lack thereof) one could expect to see between the two lens's image capability in a realistic sense.

    Great video about my favourite focal length for Fuji cameras!! I have the Fuji 35mm f2 + 1.4 version also the mitakon 0.95 35mm and also the ziess 35mm f2 , so each of these lenses have different strengths and qualities in how they render the images and I love each one of them

    Started with f2 on xt3. Excellent lens but was tempted by 1.4 and fell in love! Sold the f2. 1.4 is great for street and much quicker to focus than people make out even if not quite as zippy as the f2. The character, rendering and out of focus blur more than compensate! Highly recommended but if i never tried the 1.4 i would have remained very happy with the f2 also :)

    I have the 35mm f1.4 and it came with both types of lens caps, although both are a pain to use. I find most modern day lenses are optically fantastic but sometimes a bit sterile. There are lenses that can produce very sharp images and others that just make you smile. For me the 35mm f1.4 falls into the second category. Enjoying your channel and greetings from Bern

    • @cris_photography

      Thank you Micheal! I agree, the caps are not up to par and could be improved big time. I love using vintage manual focusing lenses - especially Russian ones for their organic looks so I see what you mean when you say they are a bit sterile - makes sense. Thanks for the feedback and glad you like my channel. Take care!

    I’ve had both. Given the dynamic range of newer Fuji cameras I’ve been pretty happy with the f2. I had the 1.4 and it just felt really slow next to the f2. For me that’s a huge factor considering these lenses are a couple hundred dollars apart. For street photography the snappy auto focus on the f2 is always a breeze to use.

    Thanks for the video.
    For video is the 1.4 manually focus easy? And once you lock the focus does it keep the focus on the subject.?? That's for me more important than the speed of the focus.

      Hello Ser, thanks for your comment. To be honest I don't use fuji much for filming (Sony or Lumix) so I didn't test these out for that purpose. You do bring up a valid point and I might test that out at some point soon. Stay tuned!

      They're both rubbish for video. If you're serious about video you need the XT4 and 1.4/18. I've heard the 2/50 works decent but never tried it myself. I don't own a zoom lens and never looked into those, so know nothing about them.

    You can use a clip on lens cap with the square hood on the 1.4. Take a little bit more effort to angle it through but muscle memory kicks in and it becomes easy to do.

  • @paceyombex
    @paceyombex 2 года назад +4

    interesting that at the same aperture the f/2 seems to have a smoother background. The amount of aperture blade does make a difference.

  • @erikfarkas7868
    @erikfarkas7868 Год назад +3

    You can actually put the round lens cap under the square hood of the 1.4... It's pretty easy to do, just pinch it and rotate slightly. It wont work if you pinch it horizontally, do it vertically. It works with both, old and new caps.

    35mm (in Aps-C) is a focal length I don't use because 23-27mm is my real comfort zone. I know that since analogic era, when my 50mm lens was always in the shelve. Nevertheless I would like to try the Fuji 35mm lenses.

    • @cris_photography
      @cris_photography  19 дней назад +1

      I see! Ya I myself became more of a 24/28 full frame focal length more than a 35 (23 equivalent APS-C). The 35mm of Fuji (50 full frame) isn’t bad for portrait and I took some amazing portraits with it but not my focal length or choice either (not so nifty the fifty 😁🤟🏼)

    I have the 35 F2 and its great lens. A friend of mine suggested it to me when getting in to the fuji system and I'm so glad I went for it! 2 years later and I'm thinking of getting the 35mm 1.4 version to replace this one because of the extra stop of light that you get with it. I'm still undecided so if anyone has some extra pro's or cons's to help me out please let me know :) i fount a used 1.4 for around 350 euro's so that's really not bad at all..
    Oh and Cris, Loved the video! I subscribed and look forward to more vids!

      Hello Robbert! Thanks for stopping by and for sharing your setup!
      Yes the 1.4 version has something that the f2 version doesn't have in terms of DOF so if you don't need to compact(er) size and the WR, the 1.4 version is by far my favorite (as you saw on the shots also). 350 euro is a steal, I'd go for it if you can!

My Fujifilm X-T5 camera came with the XF16-80mm lens. It has a maximum aperture of f/4 at 16mm. The same as you can't compare Summilux and Summicron, you just can't compare these two. The rendering (keyword) of the 1.4 is so much different and the experience is so much more organic that even if they are the same focal length, they are worlds apart. I had both and used them for years. I kept the 1.4 version, the Fujilux.
