When I was young, I cared so much about what other people thought and I sought approval from my family and peers. Today, as a sixty something year old woman, it’s about pleasing me. As long as I am not hurting anyone or creating a problem for anyone, I don’t care what others think. My time on this planet is getting shorter. I try to make everyday count.
That was fun to watch! In my retirement years, I tried playing golf and have friends who are very competitive. I am not really, and enjoyed the camaradie and lunches more than the sand traps. Covid took away the golfing for me, anyway. My real joy now in living deliberately is quilting! Who knew it would consume so much of my time? Some of my friends say, "We need to get her out of her sewing bunker." But, I find I am most happy sewing for Quilts for Kids and Quilts of Valor. I like to say that my life has a purpose now and I very much related to your comments about being in your cabin. You are doing exactly what you want to do. What a lovely quilt you created. It's like a coat of many colors!
This is a fantastic video! Thanks for taking us along as you explain your thoughts and process as you create a gorgeous quilt. Wow! I also really appreciate the Thoreau quote you shared and your personal thoughts. **hugs**
I call it wringing every drop of happiness I can out of life. Living deliberately, I like that. Sometimes you have to deliberately see the good, rather than fixate on the bad. Thank you for the inspirational use of UFOs. I really like your rectangular joining block.
What a joy!!!!! A true source of inspiration- I will be mentioning you and giving you a huge shoutout on my next RUclips video I post the first week of October. I subscribed immediately - your love of life and ingenuity captured my attention. Stay real to self. Absolutely LOVE the finished quilt. Now if off to binge watch…. ❤
I just happened across your channel, and I am so delighted I did! I love your thought process and love of simplicity. I am at a point in life where that is a priority for me. I love your quilt and all of your blocks are beautiful and would have worked equally well. Your finished piece of work is absolutely beautiful and cozy! Thank you so much! A new subscriber! ❤😘
Sarah….Inlook forward to your videos. You are an inspiration and the star. But, I must says, I do love your co-star! I chuckle when Luna pops in and out of your videos! Keep up the good work!
Your quilt is absolutely beautiful. What a fun video. I got the biggest kick out of your kitty. So funny. You have the best videos. Thank you for sharing how to make the filler block and how you decided on your quilt layout. Hope to see more in your cabin.❤
I love, Love, LOVE your scrap quilt. Thanks for sharing the process and your wisdom. Living deliberately looks so different for all of us...and that's OKAY! Love hearing the rain on the roof and sharing space with a playful kitty. Stopping to play for a bit is also good for the soul. 🥰
"I'm kind of over it" - I can relate to that. Love this video. Cats (and dogs) are great helpers! Especially when you are working on the floor - Sending Luna some love!
Sarah- you are so talented, and your “lovely assistant” is very entertaining! Your quilt turned out amazing and beautiful as of course I knew it would. I love the thought of deliberately … kinda like living intentionally and enjoying the moment. Lovely video as always. Thank you for sharing! 💕
I am glad I have vintage machines as a back-up for power outages! At the moment my current project is on the floor and the cats are not allowed in - they'll be so jealous if they saw Luna. Oh boy! The noise - they both meow to come in (the door has a glass panel) and one paws the glass, so it thump thumps (heavily furred pads, so no damage). So I tend to sew by sneaking in! I love your quilt - what a great way to deal with the blocks. The corner stones are great! I also love your cabin - very cosy and the sound of the rain makes it more so! Thank you.
Congratulations. Your quilt turned out so beautiful. Thank you for inviting me to your quilting adventure at your cabin. I had a wonderful time. God bless you.
Just found your youtube channel today! I loved it. Thank you for sharing your creative journey making this quilt. How inspiring. Love that bluegrass music and the cabin and the rain and the stream at the end. It was all wonderful! Thank you!
I am glad I watched this video. I am working on a “scrap” quilt and I was having brain fog on adding the outside sections. Thanks for reminding me to measure, measure and make me happy too! Sew easy if I take time to think it out! Four log cabins for the corners will set mine perfectly too. Thank you. Great ideas
First a thank you to Luna for starting my day on a happy note with laughter. You're correct, she IS a scene stealer! So cute. And thank you Sarah for another enjoyable video. The quilt came together beautifully as if all the pieces were meant to meet. Its stunning. And thank you for reminding me to live deliberately. I have Walden on my to read list.
Now I need a wee off grid cabin with natural wood interior, my hand crank sewing machine, and a wood burning stove. You know, next door to my long arm studio. 😂
The quilt is beautiful! I love how you pulled together a bunch of unfinished quilts and made something so pretty. It gives me hope for my bag of abandoned blocks. Your kitten is so cute! It was funny watching it play with you as your worked.
Your wonderful cat was my best laugh of the day! Love your quilt top, love the connector block, love your process, but I absolutely ADORE YOUR KITTY!!! 🥰😺🎶💖
A true artist at work. The design came together wonderfully. Loved the added time of introspection. Thoreau has become a favorite of mine in recent years.
Couldn't agree more! It’s challenging to read because the language is different than what we are used to reading now. If that makes sense. But love it!
So enjoyed your quilting process and philosophy. The quilt is gorgeous❤! Just found your channel and subscribed immediately. Love your handcrank machine. I have a couple and you've inspired me to pull them out and use them again.
Hi there. Thanks for sharing your scrappy quilt idea. The quilt is beautiful! Love the peaceful cabin surrounding as well. Looking forward to more of your videos. Keep enjoying your blessings.
I downloaded the My Town pattern to help reduce my stash. Thanks for the video. Your are so creative and imaginative . I like to way this project changed and evolved to its end result. Sometimes what we think was the right chose takes a different turn.
I think it's a great way to use UFO's - yours came out so lovely! and I think that also had something to do with the similar color schemes but also that you didn't have a set idea of how it should look, you went with a few options and picked your favorite. It's a bit more organic and I love it! I would love a cabin, but I think my husband would complain as I probably wouldn't be home much. Quilting and peace and quiet with a cup of tea/coffee sounds heavenly.
I did a major clean out of my sewing room and I donated all my orphan blocks, none of them would've went together or matched like yours did. Beautiful blocks and quilt top. I love your videos. 🧵🪡❤😊
I love this quilt. Thinking about some of my UFO ‘s and how I can combine them. I love the sound of the rain, the peacefulness and just working on something I enjoy doing “quilting “😊
Loved how you brought the quilt to life and reminded me of my first machine which was hand crank and I used when I had my six children to mend for so thank you for that too. Your cabin and the woods are a dream so thank you for sharing it all ❤️💐💐💐☘️
Hi, new subscriber. Loved, loved the quilt, and your cozy cabin. The whole ambiance evokes peace and simplicity. I was fascinated by your sewing machine. It's a beautiful piece of machinery.
Dear Sarah, Received my order from you of the quilt mug and other goodies. Love every thing. Already had a cup of tea in the mug. Thank you. You are very talented to be able to take unfinished quilt blocks and turn them into something so beautiful. Not sure I could do that. Your tutorials are so inspiring. Looking forward to the next one from your log cabin. Hugs, Dona in Oregon…🤗🧵🪡🫖🐾❤️
Oh my God you live in Paradise a dream that I have always wanted to have and I'm stuck in Mills Wyoming how beautiful that quilt is just like my grandmother used to make absolutely amazing and very warm
Hi! I'm from Covington, NY. Thank you for sharing your off the grid quilting. Have a treadle Singer 66 sewing machine. You're helping to understand how to quilt without power. So fabulous, thank you!

She is a bit of a handful! But so much company for me.

This quilt is stunning. I have never seen or heard of a crank sewing machine. I am now looking for one.
Good luck!
Im impressed with how the fabrics go together. You have a set palette. Mine are all over the place
Thank you!! Sadly I have so many UFOs that I was able to choose enough from one palette!! Trust me I’ve got more in brighter colors!

Hello!! Some of the video where I’m not talking I do speed up. But there’s lots of real time sewing also!! It goes at a good clip!!
