Off Grid Quilting - The Flying Geese Block from the CD Quilt!!

OOPS!! Apparently, I forgot to add this footage to the videos for the CD Quilt! So it would seem that I am a human with lots to learn after all!! HERE ARE THE CORRECT MEASUREMENTS - the flying geese measure 3 1/2" tall x 6 1/2" wide. The squares added to each side need to be 3 1/2" square, and a rectangle needs to be 6 1/2" x 3 1/2", just like the goose. Part 1 of the Cd Quilt can be found here...

How would I set up all my Quilting stuff in side my tent that I live in full time
I assume there is an outhouse for the privvy.
We have a sawdust toilet that we made inside. I need to show that!
Hi! Central NC, Durham to be exact and autumn is just beginning here! LOVE your videos!
How nice.
Thank you for the pattern. Your churn dash quilt is so pretty. I anxious to try it. ❤
You are very welcome!
I would add a needle threader (70 yo eyes) and a seam ripper. I was going to add a seam if you can't/don't have an off grid iron. Just a note - I was given a 1921 Singer Red Eye in a bentwood case. It was in the closet for years until recently. I got it out and cleaned it as good as I could. The power cord (it has a motor attached) was all frayed and I was afraid to try to use it. So instead of purchasing another one, I decided to convert it to a handcrank. I ordered one online and it is due to me tomorrow. I watched a video and am confident I'll be able to attach it easily. There are a couple of quirks with my machine. I'm not convinced the bobbin winder will work. Firstly, because it doesn't have a bobbin winder tire - which I could also order and the presser foot is not a side clamp - it clamps on the back and so I haven't been able find find an adapter for it. Also, the stitch regulator is just a big screw that you loosen or tighten to change the stitch length but there are no markings. You just have to experiment. But I've learned that turning the handwheel towards me gives me a forward stitch and turning it away from me gets a reverse stitch. If my bobbin winder doesn't work, I'm going to see if the bobbins for my 201 fit it and wind them on it. It's mostly going to just be a fun machine to look at and play with - unless the SHTF or the Apocalypse happens!
That’s a great story! I will say that I converted a Singer 99 a few years ago to a hand crank. I could not make the bobbin winder work. But it was still fun to use!! Thanks for the great comment.
Hello from SWPA…. Hickory Pa… not too far from you… I hope to attend one of the quilting retreats!
Oh wonderful, you’re not far at all!
@@littlefootquiltshoppe1130 did you quilt your finished piece on the sewing machine or a long arm
@@littlefootquiltshoppe1130 How did you quilt the churn dash? Did you use a sewing machine or your long arm? It its lovely!
Thanks for showing how the ice box works. Good ideas though to use those frozen blocks from your friend and to bring frozen meat. It's amazing how our ancestors lived so differently than we do and yet they thrived!!
Yes it’s amazing isn’t it?

My Aunt Cheryl’s favorite block!!!
Hi Sarah and Luna from Kansas! I had a good laugh seeing Luna climb and jump down from the doorway--such a cute playful kitty. Loved the little churn dash quilt, and loved seeing your houses and trees quilt on the bed. Both are beautiful! As I was watching today I kept thinking about all the hst's that I have in a bin from snowballing corners. I also have a bunch of small triangles that I could sew together to make hst's as well. I use the Folded Corner Clipper ruler when I make binding so the little triangle pile adds up fast. Churn dash blocks sounds like a great scrappy idea to use them up.
I have a lot of HST that I cut off from snowballing and sewed them at the same time. I had never thought of using them on churn dash blocks. I am going to do that.
@@BettyBailey-y7d It could be a good leaders and enders project. Good luck to us both!
I love your quilt and your little squares. Thank you so much.
You’re welcome! So glad you like it!
The award for best supporting actress goes to..... Luna! Your little churn dashes are cute!
Your videos are so calming and inspiring. I love watching them and seeing the cabin and your projects. Luna is a bonus too. Thank you so much for sharing and teaching and giving me the nudge I need to slow down and enjoy every moment this autumn. 🍂
Oh Sarah, your quilt is beautiful. Amazing how left over blocks put together can make a beautiful creative quilt. Great job. Oh and thank you for sharing the mini churn dash block with us. I love it too❣️
I have loved that quilt andseeing it on the bed just makes it even more just beautiful. Having Luna there and seeing her antics makes the experience real and beautiful. It is a blast.🤣
Thank you!
Greetings from northern Massachusetts! We have some beautiful fall foliage here!
Hello from central British Columbia...I really must say we are having a great display of autumn here along with huge harvest moons...about a month away til we get winter and that usually involves anywhere from 3 to 5 feet of snow in a "normal" winter! Mother Nature is in control ! I enjoy your cabin in the woods sewing sessions..very peaceful and relaxing.
What a great video! Treats, quilts, funny Luna, beautiful walk were all enjoyed very much! I love fall but here in Southern California, it hasn’t quite arrived. You’re gorgeous blue sky and crunchy leaves has me wishing and waiting!
Great tutorial. We did Lunch at the Lake today and I was surprised how much brighter the leaves have become in the last few days. P.S. I suspect the cookie in the corner was Dale’s 😉
Yes it has brightened up in the last few days!! And you KNOW the missing cookie was his - tasted before it was quite cooked 😉
Thank you for the Churn Dash table topper. I love watching your videos and seeing your beautiful quilts.I’d love to have a log cabin like yours, it’s so neat. We’re supposed to have a freeze here in Utica, Indiana.
The quilt on your bed is gorgeous!! Your work is Beautiful! I just started quilting! I am working on the kate Spain pattern Flurry! It's a quilt of Christmas presents! I don't have any fancy tools , just my antique singer and scissors! Lol Love, love your videos! I live in ny log cabin full time! ❤❤
Wonderful! I’m in NY also!
This is such a nice project. thank you!😊I'm in western PA. Freeze here tonight...🥶
East Texas love watching your videos
Beautiful trip to the creek! I already made a mini churn dash table topper and you inspired me to make another! Thanks Sarah!😊
Thank you for the sweet churn dash pattern. 5" blocks are a favorite size- not too small nor too large. I enjoy watching your flosstube. I am in Lexington, Kentucky!
Beautiful!
Southeast Texas
Lovely quilt you are just amazing.
Thank you so much!
Get a wheelbarrow would make it easier to get your water from point A to B. ❤
True!!
Love your quilt, can you tell me the name of quilting pattern.
That is a crop circle quilting pattern.
It’s similar to a crop circle, it’s a Baptist fan that is set on point….so it has a slightly different look. It’s a digitized design.
@@littlefootquiltshoppe1130oh I wanted to know about the one on the bed.
Hi Sarah! Thank you for the churn dash tutorial and for such picturesque inspiration. I'm in a rural setting in Franklin, TN, just outside of Nashville and I so appreciate the beauty of your off grid cabin and "old timey" ways coupled with the modern convenience of refrigerator cookies. The best of both worlds!
Your houses and trees quilt is beautiful! I really enjoy your laid back videos, they remind me of my younger days when I lived a semi-off-grid life, a mile off the paved road, no phone, using wood cook stove, raising much of my own food. No fall color yet here in Southside VA, but it has finally turned cooler!
Love that!
Your cat steals the show😊❤
That she does!!
You had me at "snack"! 😂😂😂
Haha!!
Really love your quilt. I do quite a few "design as I go quilts", and yes spacers are a design element. The dark background is particularly striking with your blocks/design elements. I'm a big "star" fan with LeMoyne's and Hunter Stars my favorites. A basic 4 block Hunter's Star with a border of one's choice makes a lovely baby quilt.
So much beauty in these simple blocks.❤ love your videos.
Thank you so much!
I'm enjoying your videos....Thank you..oh ..I own a small Singer VS 27 from 1894..hand crank...so soothing to use.....like you , I don't mind that it's slower to turn out a block using it...but hey..I'm not in it to win the quilt race :)....
Amazing ! wonderful and thank you so much for sharing :)
I am loving this video, I’ve never seen a crank machine in motion. I’ll have to find me one. 😍
Such a nice video. I love watching your off the grid quilt shows! Just discovered you. I’m going to share your technique and video with my guild for a workshop idea! Thank you!
Oh thank you!
I have been working on small pumpkins, from KY. LOTS OF RAIN. LOVE YOUR QUILT.
Lol...your kitty is a riot! (I watched your video as I continued stitching on the binding on the quilt I made for Amelia)...I always enjoy a peek into your cabin.
Thank you!! Hope Amelia is well!!
Stunning quilt! Wish I had half your kitty's energy 😂
It turned out absolutely stunning!❤ Love the cat action too! 😅
