I have used these Berry's 110gr carbine bullets in the 30-30 out to 200 yards. I use 11gr of Herco and large pistol primers. 3 inch groups at 200 yards.
I’ve been shooting reduced loads for years. Before WW2 most people had data on reduced loads because there was only 1 gun in the home dad shot big game and his children shot small game with the same rifle. You can get a 30-06 shooting a 175 bullet down to around 1400 fps.
Dear Fortune Cookie, did you already make a video shooting those berry bullets with 7.2 grains of unique? In that marlin 30-30? If not? 🙏 please hurry , I can't hold it no more 😭
I thought about doing this for .270 for the exact same reason. We have a problem with coyotes and raccoons going after our chickens at the end of summer. I'll be using trailboss and a cast lead bullet. Trailboss is basically unobtainium, but I'm willing to find a recipe with unique once my powder runs out. Can't wait to see the performance of your 30/30 reduced loads.
What a great cartridge. I've only ever had one in a .30-30 Contender pistol but what a great old cartridge. Its too bad the ammunition manufacturers don't make some really soft-loads for this cartridge.
If you ever get a hold of Trail Boss powder? You can create soft loads by filling your case 65% full with any 150 grain bullet , in your 30-30. it's Safe and fun 😊 but do not compress or crunch your load! 😮
These low velocity plinking loads would be great fun to shoot at cans , bottles and small rocks for younger teenager shooters. I’m looking forward to watching the longer video on Rumble but it hasn’t been uploaded there as I write this comment.
I use reduced 30-30 for most of the shooting. I load using W231 and a 135 grain Acme cast bullet at around 1200 fps. I’ll see if I can find some of the plated bullets from Berrys. They’d be just the ticket for a little more speed.
Another good one, thank you. I had not considered these projectiles before. I shoot Cowboy Lever Action silhouette matches, and need a light, accurate load. My conundrum is: The general rule of thumb for .30-30 is, don't use round nosed bullets. Are you not concerned with the possibility of a primer detonation in the mag tube?
I have used Unique for cast loads in everything from 30/06 to 6.5 Creedmoor to 460 S&W for powder puff loads with success. You can also use Hodgdon's 60% rule for H4895 for reduced loads with jacketed. That's 17.5gr for 150's, I have used 125's with great results. AA5744 is also a great choice for a little more juice.
I have loaded some Hornady 100gn short jackets for my 30-30 with 7.2 grains of unique , will see how they do later this coming year. will keep you toasted on the results 😮
Copper plated bullets produce more friction?? For all intended purposes they are same a lead. Since this is a staring charge reducing 0.3 grains in large case like that makes no sense. Considering that this load data was for 120gr bullet, I would actually bump up starting charge to 8gr. The reason is if you don't get enough pressure to seal the case in the chamber you'll end up with sooty cases and dirty chamber, not a good thing.
I've never owned a tubular magazine fed centerfire rifle, one thing seems unusual. I know you'll have lighter recoil on these loads, is that why you use no cannelure or crimp? You aren't worried about bullets seating deeper from recoil while in the tube? Also, why do you keep 30-30 dies in a box labeled 38/357? Isn't that confusing? Do you just remember what's really in the boxes, as some sort of security protocol to thwart home invaders intent on reloading some ammo while they are there? "Just try to steal my 357 dies mister, boy will you get a surprise!"
Perhaps maybe you can answer my question I've been looking for somebody can tell me the information of a 240 grain 44 magnum traveling at 1300 ft2 s what would be the actual knockdown power of that chargers at 50 yards
@@Miguelperaza-c7v That is way too low with any bullet out of the .30-30. That is just over 20% case volume fill and less than 7500PSI peak pressure with a 110gr Campro bullet seated to 2.375" COAL. Don't go below 7 grs or above 8 grains with a .30-30 using Red Dot.
@ironDsteele I do love the heaviness of the 30-30 , because when really downloaded it, can mimic a 357 mag. Provided you use a 100gn Hornady Short Jacket .
according to Lee reloading their factory crimp die does not require a cantalure groove it actually crushes into the bullet very well without one. I buy second quality bullets all the time and the groove is always in the wrong place. it crimps them just fine
I hope those are good custom loads for you. Many of your loadings are indeed custom, not reloads. You are reusing the brass components, and sometimes the lead(range scraps), but not necessarily copying the original factory offerings. That is what it is all about. Looking forward to your range session with those.
Have you ever looked at a reloading manual? Plenty of unique options for velocity, bullet size, bullet type, powder type, etc. It’s still called reloading even though you are producing loads not typically offered by the factory.

Wow! 😮I'll tell you now, I just happen to have 400 short jacket 100 gainers by Hornady, seems they'd be perfect for cayouts! 😊 in my 30-30 .
Interesting video here. I have not found the rumble version yet.
I found you on Rumble but not this video??
I can't find this on Rumble. Very interested in this loading.

Trail Boss is great for reduced loads.
@@thehopperhopes6365 Agreed but I haven’t seen it for sale in almost 2 years.

Agree, would be nice to have some more. 270 reduced loads.
Berry's now has a 150 gr RNFP plated bullet made for the .30-30 leverguns.
I see your warning about what META allows, I have lots of videos where I do all stages on my single stage and my Dillon 550s.
I looked on Rumble did not see video
Excellent information -- I find myself using Berry"s Bullets more frequently in reloading applications.
Which is your most favorite cartridge?
I’ve always had good results using standard large pistol primers with shotgun powders in rifle cases.

I looked for this video on rumble, the most recent one uploaded is the PPC video, which I already watched.
watching on rumble
Been downloading for decades. Great video FC
I’ve got lots of fmj 30 carbine bullets. I’ve been meaning to load them up in 308 with red dot
RUclips restrictions are nonsense. Off I go to Rumble!!

Federal loads a 125 FNHP. These are also available as a component. Loaded with Trail Boss, I call these my mouse fart loads.

You must have read my mind, I was just looking for 30-30 reduced loads
Any chance you could put the word out on the new atf proposed rule on gunpowder registration?
I've been using 8.5 grains of R.D. with Berry's 150 gr. plated projectiles for years.... be well.
Great idea!
Ever done something light for .45-70? Ive really liked the idea of like a .45-70 special but you cant use .45lc unfortunately

I've used these bullets and loads with 7 grs Red Dot in the .30 .30 successfully many times. Same with the .358 Win and .458 Win Mag.
Do you think 4.2 of red dot is too little for a 30-30?

What does cup stand for in the reloading world?
copper units of pressure. before they had high pressure gauges they would measure how much a copper disc got crushed.
Hi, i heard you cannot crimp those, is it true ? (no crimping groove) thanks a lot.

I use red dot alot.
Had seen one video on red dot for the 30-30 like about 4.1 grains ,but it was deleted 😮
Tell us more about using red dot , seems green dot also burns semi- sticky gummy dirty , but the dirtiest is 3031 for sure .
I also wonder what's the standard rule to measure gun powder burn rate 🤔
I bought a big box of round nose .357 bullets made by Berrys. They are the least accurate bullets I've ever used.
