    As a modern gief I love that they add over head cartwheel for mix something that we actually needed been thinking about since mid s1

      As another Modern Zangief (Mief?) I feel we make a lot more damage, finally some love for Gief!

      Modern gief dont feel disadvantaged now. Can be possible on par or better than classic now.

      Hell no, I rather have my head butt and low kick into stab back without pressing the combo bottom . The cartwheel is an invitation to get DI’d.

      ​@@TheTouragei thought so too but you can hold Assist and tap H to do headbutt.
      So it is a good change

      @@TheTourage It's an invitation for DI only if made readable to the opponent.I will rarely use it on the 1st round & if im using on the second or final round, I only use it wen im more sure the opponent is expecting a setup I've gotten his mind accustomed to(which is mostly a setup that involves a grab or command grab).So the move is very good if u know how to throw it out sparsely.

    Zangief is insanely crazy now, you can dr into cr.mk into cr.mp or hell stab, damage output is insane. He doesn't always have to use od borch dynamite. His cr.hp counter can dr into hell stab combo. On top of his st.mk. Zangief is HIM in the right hands.

    Honestly, just the meter build up buff by itself is great, it feels so much better now.

    The modern mode changes are good but they're messing with my muscle memory. Also I really miss standing light punch. Loved using that for light spd tick throws.

    The dirve gauge damage on opponent is huge. I actually just went for hits online, no SPD to test, and definitely makes a difference. Got quite a few to burnout quite quickly.

    Zangief is one of the biggest benefactor of tap parry nerf, he gained better reward from perfect parry thanks to cr.HP changes, cr.HP is now an usable whiff punisher with good reward, stomp went from useless to at least having an usage with the cancel, he has way better drive rush pressure with his knee change, he has stronger combo due to not necessiting as much ressources or simply having consistent ones, he FINALLY build meter, he hurt drive gauge way better, etc. Hell his overhead is just infinitely better as it is now safe. Oh and his cr.MK has conversion on drive rush and his sweep is EVEN better (and it was a very good fucking sweep).
    It isn't like Aki or Ryu who have a way stronger gameplan (ryu with denjin charge, aki now absolutely destroy fireball with her coward crouch dive) but he is way way more consistent and just a way better character offensively. There is still some inconsistency (counter-hit mp still doesn't fully connect into his atemi combo at full range, his super1 is still quite niche as an anti-air) and he still struggle on defense (no buff on ex lariat, slow ass lvl 2, etc) but I think it would be very dishonest to say that the character is not way better and that he didn't get strong buff.
    Compare that to Dhalsim, hell Lily got some nice buff but there are still specific buff, etc. Many people downplay their S2 changes (Luke is still very strong, Juri is a winner by virtue of having nothing changed, etc) but Zangief is finally coherent/'finished' as a character. We will see how it pans out and if he will need more changes in the next season (like a stronger lariat anti-air, etc).

      Lily's buffs are nice (especially the level 1 super buffs), but nothing screams game changing. Gief's are pretty damn huge.

    tundra is awesome when youre fighting a character that has a kick for their drive impact, like cammy. still a massive gamble but its more about setting a precedent

    As always the better Gief video and opinion on the net. I can see everyone say that Gief is the most beneficiant of the patch and that he is better now. Personnally all these thing will change nothing. His core problem are still there and the nerf of scaling on the light combo is Huge nerf that impact him more than all the change. Damage was already high in first season and he was bad already. This will change nothing for me. Even more the buff on the other character make his match up even worse for a lot of them.
    Ryu dengin is now random on hado, Jamie can even easier than before skip the neutral and put the pressure on you,Lily can now have easier charge and his 2HP has been buff witch was already à nightmare for Gief, Guile can easealy now get you back at the other side of the ring with a four frame for 3 bars, and i don't talk about Akuma. All these changes affect even more Gief than other character for more damage and meter when the real problem is his tool that don't work as they should.

    lights being finicky into normal lariat is the one change I hoped for more than anything... but what we got? I'm not upset. these are good changes. I'm not overjoyed, but I'm very far from completely let down. capcom did better than I thought but worse than I hoped lol.

    Regular borscht dynamite buff is pretty good. You can now do neutral jump headbutt into it, combo punish counter standing hk into it, and connect it raw after a wall splat. You can only connect to ex borscht or hell stab combo before this change

    So what I can understand is that they didn't give him a lot more to work with, but they made him a lot better at what he wants to achieve (DG damage increases, DG Gain increases and SA gain increases alongside HP damage increases) only push him further into an aggressive playstyle, and reward him for bullying his way in and make it easier for him to stay closer as long as the player is able to make good decisions. The new punishes and combos, like c.HP and f.HP into Hellstab also give less chances to the opponent if they continue to make commitments that don't cash out so DP, Countered Drive Impacts, Blocked Drive Reversals and getting with a meaty will hurt even more.
    Overall, he's better at what he does but he still suffers from his old issues.

      He still needs a proper meterless combo. It's lacking in such a fundamental way, he still feels incomplete. And it's not a crazy thing to ask for.

    I’m happy for these changes I just want cr mk to be special cancllable standing hp to be able to be dash cancelled for mind games and lariat to be faster and only od lariat to hit behind him then I’ll be fine with gief

    So, Capcom found a way to make denjin charge for Ryu more useful and they couldn't come up with any ideas on how to make Tundra Storm more useful? Thanks Capcom lol Give us back GH 😂

      I think a "green hand" type of move could be useful for Gief in the future. He doesn't have a good way to close the gap.

    Zangief needs Ex Lariat hit from behind.
    Simple lariat can't hit from behind but Ex lariat must necessarily hit from behind !!!!!

    Man it does suck that lights dont get much damage. But Light DRC's being nerfed across the board might help knock some characters down a peg or two right? Otherwise Im excited, as a loyal fan to see what the Red Cyclone is now capable of.
    Btw do you happen to have a link to the Zangief discord. I couldnt find anything looking around public so I was wondering how I could find it.
    Either way. Good luck out there. Cant wait to try these out myself and Ill be fighting alongside my fellow Giefs soon (as soon as I get a new computer lol).

    drive reversal is our cheap option we dont really have a choice best thing to do is to throw it randomly its a gamble either way

    Wish they gave zangief his green hand back. If Ken can use his command dash together with green dash, why can't gief?

      @@SiberianLab It's moreso using air headbutt cancel into normal Borscht instead of just using Borscht after SA2. It's probably pretty hard to do so I dont think it is anything than corner specific

    I am very disappointed with the update, they did not address gief issues beside the meter gain increase.
    More damage is cool but he already hits like a tank.
    Still lacks anti air options.
    Light DRC nerf is worse for Gief.
    Down MK buffs does not address the fact that it is still too slow.
    Down down MK is still pointless so far.
    Down heavy punch buffs don't appear to make a difference in his gameplay, it should allow cancel into level 1, Marisa got that buff...
    Level 2 issue not addressed.
    Thundra still pointless.
    I see Ryu getting a better fireball game but we don't get better tools against that.
    I was hoping for and an od thundra with activation on first frame, JP got that and parry everything, thundra only grab kicks...
    I will try to get used to the changes and improve my game but i dont have high hopes.

      Agreed. Geif gets unessesary qol ignores big crux issues entire cast gets meaningful buffs n qol = overall nerf/shafting to geif overall. He destroys drive gauge so I guess maybe he gets double drive rush comboed less? Yippee. Everyone still gets free crossup spam on him :l
