I see it more so as Luffy is a "chosen one" in the way that he was born with the qualities that Nika would be looking for. I think Oda is setting luffy as a Destined King of the Pirates that's why he gave luffy a Dream Above being the King of the Pirates. Because luffy's line "I'm gonna be king of the pirates" is express more as a proclamation and not so much as a dream and he sees being the king of the pirates a step closer to his actual goal. My take on this is, luffy wants to be free but destiny has already set his life so he wants to complete that destiny first and then he will be free to complete his actual dream.

The chosen one Aspect has been a part of One Piece since it's earliest chapters/Episodes. The Will of D. is a mysterious force we still dont know that much about, but we know it has an impact on the world.
It’s actually said that all ZOAN fruits have a will and will only be eaten by the people who have a similar personality and it was revealed by dr.V that the fruits are actually the dreams of the old people and (Nika is actually the will of joy boy according to a lot of theories and this part is not confirmed as it maybe someone else’s dream to be the most free warrior in the sea and joy boy happened to eat it) so the reason luffy at the fruit is because he had a similar mound set as the original dude and (as for the prophesies there is probably a fruit that can read into the future so they knew what was gonna Happen so they probably helped luffy by laying the ground work and this part is also just a theory)
I think the nika fruit will eventually challenge luffys freedom , Does the dream he had his own or planted in his head by the nika fruit.Did luffy follow the path by his own free will or due to the fruit.
If the original people of the ancient kingdom knew that someone in 900 years would be born, eat the nika fruit and liberate the world, then that is prophecy. Roger said that he was too early and that someone would surpass him in the future. He did not say the exact time when that is going to happen but on the contrary Oden said that the wano should be opened in 20 years for joyboy. It seems like Oden knew what was gonna happen to the world in the future. If that is the case then luffy 100% was destined to do that. But if the original people ancient kingdom had faith and hope that someday someone will inherit the will of joyboy and liberate the world, and luffy does that, then that to me is not prophecy. I personally want it to be a story of hope and not prophecy. However based on what roger and oden said that is not likely happening. I really wish that one piece does not become a story of fate and prophecy. We will only know whether luffy is a chosen one once we know the secrets of ancient kingdom, secrets of devil fruit, secrets of void century. Until that it will still be vague.

And was there really a prophecy made 900 years ago or not. Some plot points seems that he is chosen one and some make it seem that it is not that simple. Well first things first, his very existence was covered up by Garp to some extent, at least in regards to him having the devil fruit. Then when he first set out, his movements were sporadic and wild. Tracking him is exceedingly difficult, not go mention he kept crashing up against enemies that should have killed him. Personally, at the end of the day, I prefer to think that he is the child of prophecy not because he was chosen since birth, but more that he was simply an ideal candidate to wield and awaken the fruit.

yamato's fruit name is Okuchi no Makami " The guardian diety of wano". he ate the fruit mistakenly as he was hungry that is he wanted to be like oden even before eating that fruit. There is even a dialogue of him saying " I can't be oden if I can't protect the land of wano". So it's clear that the fruit chose it's rightful owner. Now luffy's fruit chose him because he wanted to be a pirate even before eating it. According to him pirates are the freest people in the world. Zoan's having will of their own is to be eaten by the rightful person and it has nothing to do with their actions. Yamato's fruits is awakened as his mind and body caught up to its powers that is he wanted to be oden so badly. While luffy has shown several times how important is freedom to him. His actions are not controlled by his fruit. We have seen that case with the mindless beasts of impeldown. kaido too has mythical zoan fruit. His actions are because of his fruit ? HELL NAH
So basically, people who have talent still have to work; but they will get much bigger gains/output than those who do the same amount of work. The violin guy put in 15 hours a day. Compared to a regular person who also put in 15 hours, the violin guy was eventually able to do an impossible sequence/type of notes because of his extra flexibility in his fingers. If a normal person did the same amount of work he would get to an expert level, but not the legendary impossible notes (People thought the made a pack with the devil, that is legendary)

tbh luffy being joyboy is quite different from the other chosen ones in other animes, because if luffy hadn't gone through what he did and trained gear 5 wouldn't be that powerful.
I could defend Luffy all I want but he’s a shounen protagonist so it’s a given that he’s the chosen one that will win every fight. Chosen one characters can be great like if they find out they’ve been following a destined path and need to work even harder to meet up with those expectations to stand on top. In the world of one piece you have to be very lucky to achieve greatness, shown best with the randomness of devil fruits, so when characters have destiny backing them up it actually validates a lot more stuff for me. This is just me throwing out ideas that come to my mind I might get a different viewpoint later and that’s the fun with a long running series like one piece.
But Luffy kinda contradicts that aspect of chosen one. He never found out he was the chosen one. He always simply thought he's just doing everything own his own merit and never confronted with the fact he was a child of prophecy. And even if he do, like what happened in fishman where he was prophesized to destroy the island, he could not gave a shit. He never cared for the past nor the future. He probably just simply think that either the prophecy is wrong or if it were to happen, there must be a good enough reason for him to do that and just move on with his life. But that's why I love his character so much and why he's such a unique mc for me. Chosen one or not, he could not give a fuck. He just wants to do what he wants and as long as he believe what he does is out his own free will and not destiny, that still gave his character so much agency.

Yes. Though from what the elders said, no one has been able to awaken the fruit in 800 years. Which means a few people have eaten it in that time. Luffy is just the first to awaken it on that time. But yes. He clearly is a child pf prophecy

Also, many people misconstrued Zoan devil fruits will. While it has influences on a user's personality, it doesn't dictate their actions and overall personality. I guess that's why they're called DEVIL fruits. Like a devil, it can just simply whispers to influence your actions but it can't outright control/command you to do its bidding. And Zoan's personality will only truly consumes/affect its users once they're awakened. Which mean, none of Luffy's personality or accomplishments were ever driven by his df especially before his awakening. After his awakening, it does have an influence on Luffy's personality but it never outright takes away his agency nor will.
Gear 5 is where One piece might have died for me, this retcon is too much, for me is a retcon, so far i was in the journey and seeing him work his way to become powerful, but, out of nowhere he gained a power that can defy logic and people call his fruit zoa, is too much, the excuse of the gear so far were transformation, is forcing the lore, don flamingo made a clone with strings, isnt that also a type of transformation? anyway, one piece already have a problem of stretching the soty too much lately, everything takes forever to proceed, characters lasting more than they should (Ult), payoff that never happens, sanji making the wedding cake, the cyborg wanting to fight sanji instead of a fight between cyborgs, usopp being just a comedy relief, power creep were at start a bronze breast plate was a issue and now people are punching blocks of steel like it is made of mochi, sea stone are barely a inconvenience now, no one ever drowned, normal people tanking powerful people blows, like that courtesan surviving Queens stealth attack, she was to be made in a bloody pulp, so much stuff... Gear 5 isn't a retcon it's a plot twist it has been shown many times there was more to luffy's abilities than just rubber through gear 4 like do you think rubber can chase after people and get stronger and faster while chasing them? Obviously it can't even by one piece standards. Infact the ribbon of steam that luffy get in gear 4 should have been a hint that there was more to his power. But we only know these due to hindsight that's what makes gear 5 a plot twist and not a retcon. Also doflamingo's string clone isn't a transformation because he's not transforming his body just changing the string to look like his body
Even if Luffy is the Child of Prophecy or the Choosen One, that still doesnt change the fact that we all love watching one piece because of its goofiness and adventures and it doesnt matter if luffy is joyboy's father that time travelled and got shrunken, what matters it that One Piece will forever continue to be the show that we al love watching cause of all the qualities I mentioned before.
Agreed. Even before gear 5 they started hinting at prophecy character. Which I didn’t like for him. It’s not an underdog story or new character story. It’s a new game plus story. Luffy is a chosen one and the leader not an underdog in the story. He's a fruit incarnation of Joyboy not Roger. Roger is similar to Luffy but not the same character Luffy carries the essence of his nature in fact black beard shares similar characteristics. Also, Roger is a far more ruthless and reckless individual than Luffy. Luffy would listen to his people while Roger wouldn't back down Like Chosen=bad when in reality there are tons of hints about Luffy being something.

It's not the same thing with Luffy. In One Piece it could have literally been anyone. The One Piece "prophecy" isn't even a real prophecy. It's a random guess from people in the past that someone someday would take down the WG. Which is about as vague as saying someone will win the NBA playoffs or that someone somewhere will eventually go to Wendy's 🙄
I always saw it as Luffy is the chosen one who succeeded, or more like a a manmade chosen one. Cause as I understand it, the fruit had not AWAKENED, in over 800 years, a.k.a joyboy/nika's will was not brought out until luffy. Luffy got the fruit because his own will aligned with Joyboy/nika and he had the right circumstances and willpower to finally fulfill joyboy's wish and while that part of his journey may have destiny intertwined in it, his choice to be the freest man on the seas, bound by nothing is his own will. I believe that to be the reason why he responded to Kaido the way he did, he is Luffy first and the prophecy and all that other stuff comes second to what he wants and intends to do with his life. He BECAME the chosen one when he finally awakened the fruit. Anyone else who awakened it would have been the chosen one too. Sort of like Paul atreides if you ever watched dune.

Sorry if it came out the wrong way, but I was saying that the show is trying to make us think that he is an underdog in every way. Socially we see it right away, but then Sasuke, Lee, Neji, Sand Trio etc. all are shows to be stronger than him and not considering him a threat. When in all honesty, Naruto would have clapped anyone 1v1 with the exception of Lee.

In total Ace was supposed to be the chosen one , he was supposed to be the child of prophecy But luffy ate the fruit and acquired the strength on his one , where as u can see ace was born with so much already and even his birth was not a normal one.
I can definitely see where you are coming from, BUTT, there is a flaw in your argument that I covered in the video. Ace can't be the chosen one, because Luffy got to the fruit first. It's the same as the Mark Twain example that I brought up, just because you have the skills/lineage/whatever else, it doesn't guarantee much when it comes to fate.
Kaidou asks Luffy who he is: Luffy Replies with I am Monkey D. Luffy, the man who will surpass you and become king of the pirates.(I thought he got possessed the way Zunesha was speaking and would say I am Joy Boy). Robin follows Rayleigh's advice to take it one step at a time as she(straw hats) might reach to a different conclusion. Shanks after saving Koby: For better or worse those few seconds of courage will profoundly influence the fate of the world(I guess he knew what Luffy was about). But Shanks believe that Luffy surviving could be a bad thing as well. There are few lines here and there that alludes that Luffy's conclusion might be different(or he completely disregards the destiny of being JoyBoy). After all how is Luffy free if everything he does is bound by fate? Having said that, I think such a twist happening is really low cause at this point Luffy looks like is a JoyBoy reincarnate.
The paragraph I wrote are quite messy so forgive me😅 So let me tell you what I think the situation is. Luffy's writing situation seems to be unique as it seems that the Poneglyph the original Joyboy left at Laughtale might have been left for the next Joyboy aka Luffy because of a prediction from a fortune teller 800 years ago. So what probably happened is that a fortune teller told Joyboy(old) that the next Joyboy will only appear 800 years later so he decided to write about his adventures on the Poneglyph and probably wrote that message from his adventures and wrote what his goal was. It must have been an ambitious goal as all of the Roger pirates were laughing and this goal must of been only achievable for someone who awakened the gum gum fruit. He probably laid the foundation with telling Lily to spread the Poneglyph all over the world. It seems the conditions to be Joyboy is: hito hito no mi model nika must be eaten Have the dream to be achieve ultimate freedom And awaken the hito hito no mi model nika. Luffy ticks all three boxes and eating the fruit at a young age is probably another condition which is why Roger didn't eat the fruit because he doesn't meet all the conditions. Roger realises that none of his crewmates meet the criteria so he decides to leave Shanks the mission to find a child with his personality and ambition and Shanks probably thinks the best candidate for this would be Roger's son which is why he went to Foosha Village since that's where Ace lives. His plan doesn't go to plan as a random kid eats the fruit but he realises that that Luffy has the potential to meet all three criteria's which is why he isn't too upset when he sees Luffy eat the fruit. Shanks gives Luffy his hat almost like he is Roger's messenger for the next Joyboy and leaves Luffy the freedom to become the best version of a what he thinks a great pirate is. To conclude I don't think Luffy is a child of prophecy but a person rewarderd for his type of thinking, ambition and hardwork.
In other words, Luffy just had to be in the right place at the right time, have the right set of personal qualities, make friends with one of the strongest pirates, find the secret Devil Fruit that was meant for somebody else and eat it without anyone noticing... This is such an astounding sequence of events, that it's hard to believe it wasn't arranged by fate. Cause why Shanks spent so much time on the island and didn't give the Fruit to Ace, if he was such a great candidate? And it's not like it was a Luffy exclusive case. The biggest example being Shanks. As far as I know, he doesn't have a will of D Or the Nika fruit on him. Anyways, point being, if you were strong enough to get to the new world and become a Yonko, there is a good chance you are befriending a lot of powerful people. And since Luffy by nature likes to help people and be friends, the biggest point of his personality which made the fruit chose him, it's natural he'd do what he did. It's not just "fate" As you say it as it is literally takes away his ideas of freedom. The fruit doesn't have foresight, and it had been revealed there clearly have been more gum gum fruit users between the 800 years. It's just that Luffy as a person was overall so in line with the fruit's conscience he awakened it. The overall point being it isn't the same as fate driving things and a "child of prophecy" Troupe completely, as in he was born to solely for the reason of fulfilling said prophecy, he just happened to be the dude with no chill who everyone was looking for. 800 years later, the fruit just happened to find the right guy. And I can't really speak much on the fortune teller who told Joyboy about stuff, because fortune telling isn't really a well discovered concept in One Piece yet, for all we know, it just couldve been an insane form of advanced observation, kinda like what Roger did.
This chosen one thing with Luffy never bothered me since it didn't really plays into Luffy's goal. Yes, he's fated to liberate the world, but he never was never his main goal. His "destiny" is more of a side quest for him. This might not age well cause of his secret dream. But as far as I'm concerned, his main dream right now is to find the One Piece and be the pirate king. None of the thing that was stated in the prophecy ever said that the next Nika is destined to be the pirate king nor even find the One Piece. It's like having someone who's whole dream is to be the best gamer in the world but he was prophesized to be the best game developer. They're related but one success doesn't guarantee the other. You can be the best game developer but it can't make you the best gamer.
I dont thin the fruit chose him , luffy is a glutton that would eat the table , there was something that cought his eye and ate it. When zoan fruits are said to have wills , even if nika did not want to be aten by luffy unless it grew arms or caused an earthquake, it was on the table and was getting eaten. Now if nika is able to influence people, than luffy is the chosen one

I still hate the Gomu Gomu no Retcon, not because it invalidates Luffy's agency to become king of the pirates, rather that the story still has to bend itself around Luffy for said retcon to work. If it is the most important devil fruit in existence, why didn't the government start actively chasing Luffy since Alabasta at the VERY latest? I could imagine that he would've been a higher priority to eliminate than Nico Robin at the time. Why do they give such a wide berth to Shanks, who was the one to steal it from Cipher Pol in the first place? Why didn't the true name of the fruit reveal itself to Luffy when he first ate it, like we've been told in Enie's Lobby? I really hope Oda addresses those issues and course corrects, because I still believe One Piece to be one of the greatest stories ever told, and it kind of collapses in on itself the moment the Nika/Joyboy lore is mentioned. I don't particularly hate the idea of Luffy being an unwitting child of prophecy, but did we really need to have the Gum Gum fruit retconned to get that kind of narrative?

It’s actually said that all ZOAN fruits have a will and will only be eaten by the people who have a similar personality and it was revealed by dr.V that the fruits are actually the dreams of the old people and (Nika is actually the will of joy boy according to a lot of theories and this part is not confirmed as it maybe someone else’s dream to be the most free warrior in the sea and joy boy happened to eat it) so the reason luffy at the fruit is because he had a similar mound set as the original dude and (as for the prophesies there is probably a fruit that can read into the future so they knew what was gonna Happen so they probably helped luffy by laying the ground work and this part is also just a theory)

If the original people of the ancient kingdom knew that someone in 900 years would be born, eat the nika fruit and liberate the world, then that is prophecy. Roger said that he was too early and that someone would surpass him in the future. He did not say the exact time when that is going to happen but on the contrary Oden said that the wano should be opened in 20 years for joyboy. It seems like Oden knew what was gonna happen to the world in the future. If that is the case then luffy 100% was destined to do that.
But if the original people ancient kingdom had faith and hope that someday someone will inherit the will of joyboy and liberate the world, and luffy does that, then that to me is not prophecy. I personally want it to be a story of hope and not prophecy. However based on what roger and oden said that is not likely happening. I really wish that one piece does not become a story of fate and prophecy. We will only know whether luffy is a chosen one once we know the secrets of ancient kingdom, secrets of devil fruit, secrets of void century. Until that it will still be vague.

Well first things first, his very existence was covered up by Garp to some extent, at least in regards to him having the devil fruit. Then when he first set out, his movements were sporadic and wild. Tracking him is exceedingly difficult, not go mention he kept crashing up against enemies that should have killed him. Personally, at the end of the day, I prefer to think that he is the child of prophecy not because he was chosen since birth, but more that he was simply an ideal candidate to wield and awaken the fruit.

I could defend Luffy all I want but he’s a shounen protagonist so it’s a given that he’s the chosen one that will win every fight. Chosen one characters can be great like if they find out they’ve been following a destined path and need to work even harder to meet up with those expectations to stand on top. In the world of one piece you have to be very lucky to achieve greatness, shown best with the randomness of devil fruits, so when characters have destiny backing them up it actually validates a lot more stuff for me. This is just me throwing out ideas that come to my mind I might get a different viewpoint later and that’s the fun with a long running series like one piece.

But Luffy kinda contradicts that aspect of chosen one. He never found out he was the chosen one. He always simply thought he's just doing everything own his own merit and never confronted with the fact he was a child of prophecy. And even if he do, like what happened in fishman where he was prophesized to destroy the island, he could not gave a shit. He never cared for the past nor the future. He probably just simply think that either the prophecy is wrong or if it were to happen, there must be a good enough reason for him to do that and just move on with his life. But that's why I love his character so much and why he's such a unique mc for me. Chosen one or not, he could not give a fuck. He just wants to do what he wants and as long as he believe what he does is out his own free will and not destiny, that still gave his character so much agency.
I belive people like Roger and maybe even Shanks could have awakened the gomu gomu no mi, similar to luffy, with Joyboy having been the last to awaken it.

Also, many people misconstrued Zoan devil fruits will. While it has influences on a user's personality, it doesn't dictate their actions and overall personality. I guess that's why they're called DEVIL fruits. Like a devil, it can just simply whispers to influence your actions but it can't outright control/command you to do its bidding. And Zoan's personality will only truly consumes/affect its users once they're awakened. Which mean, none of Luffy's personality or accomplishments were ever driven by his df especially before his awakening. After his awakening, it does have an influence on Luffy's personality but it never outright takes away his agency nor will.

Gear 5 isn't a retcon it's a plot twist it has been shown many times there was more to luffy's abilities than just rubber through gear 4 like do you think rubber can chase after people and get stronger and faster while chasing them? Obviously it can't even by one piece standards. Infact the ribbon of steam that luffy get in gear 4 should have been a hint that there was more to his power. But we only know these due to hindsight that's what makes gear 5 a plot twist and not a retcon. Also doflamingo's string clone isn't a transformation because he's not transforming his body just changing the string to look like his body
Even if Luffy is the Child of Prophecy or the Choosen One, that still doesnt change the fact that we all love watching one piece because of its goofiness and adventures and it doesnt matter if luffy is joyboy's father that time travelled and got shrunken, what matters it that One Piece will forever continue to be the show that we al love watching cause of all the qualities I mentioned before.

Luffy is a chosen one and the leader not an underdog in the story. He's a fruit incarnation of Joyboy not Roger.
Roger is similar to Luffy but not the same character Luffy carries the essence of his nature in fact black beard shares similar characteristics. Also, Roger is a far more ruthless and reckless individual than Luffy. Luffy would listen to his people while Roger wouldn't back down

I always saw it as Luffy is the chosen one who succeeded, or more like a a manmade chosen one. Cause as I understand it, the fruit had not AWAKENED, in over 800 years, a.k.a joyboy/nika's will was not brought out until luffy. Luffy got the fruit because his own will aligned with Joyboy/nika and he had the right circumstances and willpower to finally fulfill joyboy's wish and while that part of his journey may have destiny intertwined in it, his choice to be the freest man on the seas, bound by nothing is his own will. I believe that to be the reason why he responded to Kaido the way he did, he is Luffy first and the prophecy and all that other stuff comes second to what he wants and intends to do with his life. He BECAME the chosen one when he finally awakened the fruit. Anyone else who awakened it would have been the chosen one too. Sort of like Paul atreides if you ever watched dune.

Sorry if it came out the wrong way, but I was saying that the show is trying to make us think that he is an underdog in every way. Socially we see it right away, but then Sasuke, Lee, Neji, Sand Trio etc. all are shows to be stronger than him and not considering him a threat. When in all honesty, Naruto would have clapped anyone 1v1 with the exception of Lee.

I can definitely see where you are coming from, BUTT, there is a flaw in your argument that I covered in the video. Ace can't be the chosen one, because Luffy got to the fruit first. It's the same as the Mark Twain example that I brought up, just because you have the skills/lineage/whatever else, it doesn't guarantee much when it comes to fate.

There are few lines here and there that alludes that Luffy's conclusion might be different(or he completely disregards the destiny of being JoyBoy). After all how is Luffy free if everything he does is bound by fate?

So let me tell you what I think the situation is.
Luffy's writing situation seems to be unique as it seems that the Poneglyph the original Joyboy left at Laughtale might have been left for the next Joyboy aka Luffy because of a prediction from a fortune teller 800 years ago. So what probably happened is that a fortune teller told Joyboy(old) that the next Joyboy will only appear 800 years later so he decided to write about his adventures on the Poneglyph and probably wrote that message from his adventures and wrote what his goal was. It must have been an ambitious goal as all of the Roger pirates were laughing and this goal must of been only achievable for someone who awakened the gum gum fruit. He probably laid the foundation with telling Lily to spread the Poneglyph all over the world.
It seems the conditions to be Joyboy is:
hito hito no mi model nika must be eaten
Have the dream to be achieve ultimate freedom
And awaken the hito hito no mi model nika.
Luffy ticks all three boxes and eating the fruit at a young age is probably another condition which is why Roger didn't eat the fruit because he doesn't meet all the conditions.
Roger realises that none of his crewmates meet the criteria so he decides to leave Shanks the mission to find a child with his personality and ambition and Shanks probably thinks the best candidate for this would be Roger's son which is why he went to Foosha Village since that's where Ace lives. His plan doesn't go to plan as a random kid eats the fruit but he realises that that Luffy has the potential to meet all three criteria's which is why he isn't too upset when he sees Luffy eat the fruit. Shanks gives Luffy his hat almost like he is Roger's messenger for the next Joyboy and leaves Luffy the freedom to become the best version of a what he thinks a great pirate is.
To conclude I don't think Luffy is a child of prophecy but a person rewarderd for his type of thinking, ambition and hardwork.
In other words, Luffy just had to be in the right place at the right time, have the right set of personal qualities, make friends with one of the strongest pirates, find the secret Devil Fruit that was meant for somebody else and eat it without anyone noticing... This is such an astounding sequence of events, that it's hard to believe it wasn't arranged by fate. Cause why Shanks spent so much time on the island and didn't give the Fruit to Ace, if he was such a great candidate? It sounds like MHA plot more than anything, with Allmight considering Mirio as his successor.

And it's not like it was a Luffy exclusive case. The biggest example being Shanks. As far as I know, he doesn't have a will of D Or the Nika fruit on him. (Another point, shanks clearly didn't seem to know of Ace's existence as their first interaction jn a cave was Shanks being surprised Luffy even had a brother). Anyways, point being, if you were strong enough to get to the new world and become a Yonko, there is a good chance you are befriending a lot of powerful people. So not really fate, it's just natural to happen. And since Luffy by nature likes to help people and be friends, the biggest point of his personality which made the fruit chose him, it's natural he'd do what he did. It's not just "fate" As you say it as it is literally takes away his ideas of freedom. The fruit doesn't have foresight, and it had been revealed there clearly have been more gum gum fruit users between the 800 years. It's just that Luffy as a person was overall so in line with the fruit's conscience he awakened it. The overall point being it isn't the same as fate driving things and a "child of prophecy" Troupe completely, as in he was born to solely for the reason of fulfilling said prophecy, he just happened to be the dude with no chill who everyone was looking for. 800 years later, the fruit just happened to find the right guy. And I can't really speak much on the fortune teller who told Joyboy about stuff, because fortune telling isn't really a well discovered concept in One Piece yet, for all we know, it just couldve been an insane form of advanced observation, kinda like what Roger did.
If he is, that's another problem I'll have with him. Not a fan of "chosen one" types.

This chosen one thing with Luffy never bothered me since it didn't really plays into Luffy's goal. Yes, he's fated to liberate the world, but he never was never his main goal. His "destiny" is more of a side quest for him. This might not age well cause of his secret dream. But as far as I'm concerned, his main dream right now is to find the One Piece and be the pirate king. None of the thing that was stated in the prophecy ever said that the next Nika is destined to be the pirate king nor even find the One Piece. It's like having someone who's whole dream is to be the best gamer in the world but he was prophesized to be the best game developer. They're related but one success doesn't guarantee the other. You can be the best game developer but it can't make you the best gamer.
I dont thin the fruit chose him , luffy is a glutton that would eat the table , there was something that cought his eye and ate it. When zoan fruits are said to have wills , even if nika did not want to be aten by luffy unless it grew arms or caused an earthquake, it was on the table and was getting eaten. Now if nika is able to influence people, than luffy is the chosen one

I still hate the Gomu Gomu no Retcon, not because it invalidates Luffy's agency to become king of the pirates, rather that the story still has to bend itself around Luffy for said retcon to work. If it is the most important devil fruit in existence, why didn't the government start actively chasing Luffy since Alabasta at the VERY latest? I could imagine that he would've been a higher priority to eliminate than Nico Robin at the time. Why do they give such a wide berth to Shanks, who was the one to steal it from Cipher Pol in the first place? Why didn't the true name of the fruit reveal itself to Luffy when he first ate it, like we've been told in Enie's Lobby? I really hope Oda addresses those issues and course corrects, because I still believe One Piece to be one of the greatest stories ever told, and it kind of collapses in on itself the moment the Nika/Joyboy lore is mentioned.

i mean we have known for a fact that luffy was prophsised to destroy fishman island and it likely connected to the Noa and joyboys apology that was known for years ago and we act all surprised when Oda once again shoves it in our face once again

I genuanly don't understand people who worry about children of prophecy its a story! meaning that it is defenatly deterministic so all and i mean all characters are some sort of predestand chosen one the only difference between a child of prophecy and every other character is if a world has the prophecy powers in it and the authors decision on importance of such a character
people just seam to think (correct me if I'm wrong) of badly written children of prophecy like ninja jesus or i main character shall kill/stop/defeat bad guy A. VS well written and planned prophacys where people often forget they even exist like percy or rudeus (who has much of his life and duty's maped out for him by one of the two big boys or his future self)

Thank you, and I totally get your point. For me, its just personal preference, I find this trope to be inferior and think that Oda, the one who created this whole shebang, could have come up with something more creative. Whether it's good or bad is strictly subjective.
