I'm a female solo traveler and I traveled to Egypt with an organized tour. I felt safe and It was one of the best places I've ever visited. Whether you are traveling solo or with a friend/partner, I strongly recommend visiting Egypt with a group tour. They greet you the moment you get off the plane and will guide you wherever you go. They even give you heads up about potential scams around the sites you visit.

As an Egyptian I’m really sorry for what you’ve been through, egypt is a beautiful country, I know things may get hard here especially when u are a film maker but trust me it’s worth it, and yeah things will get easier outside of Cairo so I recommend you to visit Luxor and Aswan you’ll have so much fun there.
And for a female solo traveler, it’s better if you get to know a friend who lives in egypt and let them show you around, it’ll be so much easier and safer for you. And avoid walking alone anywhere.

Thanks for your video. I am an Egyptian and I know Cairo can get overwhelming. But as any other place in the world you have to know the country’s rules before visiting that will definitely make your trip easier. I wouldn’t recommend a lot of places that you’ve been to to any of my foreigner friends. There are more touristic places and tour groups that will make any travelers life much easier. There are also a lot of nice restaurants such as 9 pyramid lounge, that are more skilled at dealing with tourists. I always recommend 2 days in Cairo and the rest on Egypt’s beautiful beaches and in Luxor and Aswan. Please do let us know your opinion when you visit them. Also please feel free to reach out for any tips on how to get around better in Cairo if you wish to visit again.

Great video, thanks for sharing! They probably identified you as someone who shoots films for RUclips, and they interpreted it as a commercial project. And to some extent it also is. I don't think regular tourists will run into similar issues, but 'content creators' are usually in a grey zone when it comes to applying for visas and permission. And the comment is public so i can reply to whatever I want and say whatever on my mind, so chill fam don't be that pressed. And as I said before, harassment happens everywhere so if you advised a female to not travel alone to Egypt, then she shouldn't travel alone anywhere else in the world! So this theory is wrong, literally A LOT of female solo travellers visit Egypt every year and nothing happens to them, if someone faced harassment then it's a minority and can happen anywhere else. I was in Egypt last February for 8 days, and our last 2 1/2 were in Cairo. By that time, I was anxious to leave. Our American tour guide had some residual issues from his previous visit a year earlier that caused concern at the beginning of our trip. I wanted to have my big camera out filming different activities, but only felt comfortable discretely holding my GoPro. I didn't want to deal with all of the badgering from vendors, or get questioned by authorities. Their law is whatever they decide. I still had a great experience visiting the other cities and landmarks throughout Egypt, and I'm so glad I got to go.

First clothing is the most important thing as it is the thing that give the attraction so any shirt must have no opening in the neck and breast area also any trouser must cover the whole leg and of course shirt must cover the back and the belly wear appropriate clothes. The second thing that you avoid walking alone in very empty or very crowded places and don’t use public transportation and use Uber. I’m so sorry about your cameras being taken! I have a friend that rents all the camera gear in Cairo directly to your door. Next time you can rent from him, save and return as you please 😫 as someone who lives in Cairo for over 15 years and travelling in and out from Canada; I can personally comment on these things you experienced. The real issue is that there is no actual set rules for the camera-the only reason this happened is because they have nothing better to do and want to just try and enforce some type of strong front on everyone.
Simply put, next time don’t bring a camera but instead rent it from someone, upload and save your content and save it. Bring a compact 4K camera and you won’t have issues.
Next, don’t believe every fact the tour guide throws at you because it’s plain bs and they are trying to filling the time gap with you.
Next, the mena house is NOT the oldest hotel in Cairo, the oldest hotel is in the center of the city.
Please don’t eat any of that street food as it’s known to not have the best hygiene regulations and you don’t want to get sick in Egypt since health care is a complete bust and they will prob try and take your money in dollars since you are not from there. I’ve seen people collapse outside a hospital because they didn’t have money.
As there are good people, there is also Bas people so just be aware.
Next, the clothes. The best thing I can recommend for your friend as a female is to stick 2 linen or have a shawl cover for more conservative places. You shouldn’t be wearing a tank top anyways as it unfortunately brings unwanted attention. The whole “filming you in the Mosque” is just one of millions of situations that have been happening and are happening daily in Cairo. We have been bringing attention and fighting it since March 2020 on social media. If you want to report him then reach the “assault police “ on Instagram 👍🏻they will happily put him on blast.
Other than that, Cairo is a lovely city and I’m happy you have security with you.. if you want the truth that is what your FBI agent is for actually, the hotel just didn’t want to tell you that.

Thanks for sharing these beautiful scenes. Living in Minnesota where we have sub-freezing temps for the most part, i feel kind of jealous. I am sorry for the difficulties you face, but these do not apply to most travelers. The main reason that you faced this is likely that you had advanced cameras and were not a licensed reporter. They are particularly sensitive with any kind of undercover reporters. So that clearly does not apply to most travelers. I have grown up in Egypt, but lived in the US for the past 6 years and can say with no doubt that i feel safer in Cairo than most cities I have lived in in the US. Egypt has so many amazing sites to visit, so I would still recommend it to most tourists but do recommended being cautious and following the rules of the land.

Excellent video Christian! I would have to agree with your assessment of Cairo though. We were harassed everywhere we went in the city itself by vendors. Of course, we understood considering tourism had dropped off to nothing in 2015 and they needed to feed their families. However, it really detracts from the overall experience when you literally have vendors placing items on your head and in your arms and then trying to collect payment for said items. We had a FAR better time in Luxor, Aswan, and Abu Simbel where we were basically left alone for the most part. I'm not sure I would return to Cairo but every other part of Egypt - absolutely. By the way, we played the Indiana Jones theme while going into the small pyramid in Giza. It probably would not have worked for RUclips but you missed an opportunity - lol. Thanks for the excellent summary!

I would like to know more on why your cameras were confiscated. My guess is you were using a tourist visa but had the appearance of commercial photography. It would be nice to know though for sure as a lot of people use your videos before they go themselves.

Honestly I'm a solo female traveler and would love to visit Egypt but like you said the experience Ruby had, had a friend of mine too. She was traveling with her boyfriend so probably safer than I would and was also not wearing any clothes that show off too much (she always wears long jeans even in summer) but was constantly being watched or shouted at. And this was in touristy place like Hurghada. I think for me it would only make sense visiting Egypt in a group.

Aproximately 98% of egyptian women suffer from harrasment. So imagine how it is as a foreign female solo traveller. Dont do it, go in groups! I have been there twice, and in cities like luxor, aswan, it can get really intimidating, even for males. Safe travels!

Christian man you have the absolute best colour grading in the world. Always such a pleasure to watch - no crazy transitions or acting "cool", just beautiful cinematics. Haven't been to Cairo but have had similar issues elsewhere - it is a royal pain. I find it especially strange how people get so worked up about video but not photo? If you were trying to "supply intel" on a location or something you'd get a lot more resolution and detail out of a photo.. just demonstrates how little the people enforcing it understand and that they're just following orders from their higher-ups, who usually aren't well-informed either. Hope you managed to get your stuff back off customs safe and sound upon your departure! My drone got broken in the hands of UAE customs lol

Big tip from me as first timer vlogger . You need to pay photo pass or tripod pass. And best thing that it's totally worth it is Cairo Pass and Luxor Pass. No need to worry about prices or anything.

We went there last year, the bus- ride from Hurghada to Cairo was interesting experience in itself. Cairo is buzzing city and we where lucky that the Pyramids werent too crowded. I was suprised on how that place is almost surrounded by the growing city. Having the place empty is nice for a ContenCreator, but I guess it means that the street- salesman become even more desperate to grab some cash off the few tourists there...

I couldn't agree more with you.
EGYPT is for sure so beautiful and versatile and Egyptians are friendly and full of life but for me apart from what you mentioned about the restrictions when it comes to filming, there are places aren't safe and sadly very poor citizens which break my heart (there is some kind of inequality).
Same thing I've seen when i visited Athens, I've seen so many poor people. One of them was sitting on the pavement asking for money with an open huge wound in his leg (looked dangerously bad) I tried to help but there isn't much we could do as tourists.
I hope from the bottom of my heart that things get better.
The video is amazing as usual.
I'm learning from you everytime I watch a video.
    Thanks and happy holidays.
