4K - AMT (exo) Commuter Train Action around Montreal in Summer 2018

- Bonjour! This Summer, I went on a vacation to Montreal, in Quebec Canada. While I did catch a lot of Canadian Pacific and Canadian National freight train action, along with some VIA Corridor trains, my main objective was getting some passenger train action. I only had a few days, but I managed to get a lot of action in a short period of time!
Since 1997 the Agence métropolitaine de transport, otherwise commonly reffered to as the AMT, has been running commuter trains on their 6 different rail lines throughout the Montreal area. Earlier this year however, the RTM changed their branding of the AMT to "exo". Only a handful of coaches are currently repainted in their new (rather ugly and bland) paint scheme, and only a few locomotives have patches over the AMT name. Since I visited Montreal a few months back, I thankfully only caught 1 of their newly repainted coaches.
The AMT is known for their F59PH and F59PHI power, of which the "PH's" are secondhand from GO Transit. I focused the majority of my filming at the Montreal Ouest station, located on the mainline into Downtown Montreal. Tons of action here in the morning, trains every few minutes going in every single direction! Also threw in a few shots from other various locations throughout the Montreal area. You'll also see some action underneath the ground, in the form of the classic Montreal Metro subway system! This is one unique system, even running on rubber wheels!
All locations listed in video.
Thanks for watching!

man, the railroad crossing bell is relentless.
I love the door closing sound on the Metro! It’s beautiful!!

What
Very surprised at how the F59PHs can handle 7-8 MLVs no problem, but NJT’s GP40s and F40s can handle only up to 4 MLVs; would be interesting if NJT/MNCW bought F59s for NJT’s diesel operations to supplement the Geeps. Super cool vid!
Your so right
They ARE SO POWER FUL THAT THEY CAN HOLD 9 MLV CARS I don't know how but they are the most powerful f59phi
that would be cool
I think it mainly depends on the company. Metra’s consists are usually 5, 7-10 Bi-Levels and 1 F40
a fact for you: the alp45dp are only in the exo system and the njt system, making it rare!
Their paint scheme is awesome. My first time seeing a video of this railroad.
as a person who lives in the province, which they added a bit of black so it brings a better balance
0:48 That F59PHI is boss! 2 horns
I love the amt (EXO) F59phi
@@ThatOneExoRailfan The second horn on the via engines is to meet a TSB safety law. It has nothing to do with horns breaking. One horn is actually too loud to be used normally.
I liked your information .
@@mercedes8192 then explain the ALP-45 and Cab cars
I make a mistake, for all locomotives they have two horns because they are not allowed to test them in residential areas.
That crossing bell is EXTREMELY loud.
One lesser known thing about Exo is that a very small number of their equipment bears these rare, "unknown" form of E-Bells (I don't know exactly what they are) which cannot be heard anywhere outside of the Exo system. If you listen very closely in the clips of this video when F59PHIs 1321 and 1322 appear, you can hear them. In fact, apart from those two, the only other thing I know for sure bears this odd kind of bell is Single Level Cab Car 708.
I actually like that bell. It’s better sounding than the other two more common types of e-bells in my opinion
Me too. I wish there were more of them. They would sound great on the UTA FrontRunner Cab Cars and MP36s.
I feel like the “mystery” bell is a revived steam bell just they made it electronic
They are Transtronic bells and Ekyrail bells
I know they're Ekybells now. I just didn't know back then.
Wow I never knew that my hometown (canada) had f59phi's like Amtrak
This is probably the weirdest commuter train I have ever seen. Two sets of horns on the top, a very quiet bell, and locos I have never seen before
Whenever the horns seem good it’s a quiet zone
Somebody needs to make AMT F59PHs (or F59PHs in general) for HO Scale!
Yeah agreed
Same!
Rapido trains inc. does
Union Pacific Passenger Train Blares Loudly on the Base Hotel (No more Bates Motel)
All this train are amazing such beutiful shapes and colour .
19:38 That rare bell came from 708 cab car!!
It has ekyrail e bell!
Why do they go so slow by they skip the station and don't stop I don't understand
was there no other place to fan at other than next to that crossing gate bell ???
I recorded tones of trains here (some horn action of K5-CA-LS) m.ruclips.net/video/wfabm-AwjeI/видео.html
Few week ago, in august, when i was walkin' to the exporail canada covid 19 entry (alternative enter and exit) i seen an amt train passing in front of me while walkin' with my dad going to exporail, it was single level coach, going backward with cabcar, with a f59 phi locomotive (little notice: in amtrak, the f59phi was the surfliner locomotive, but they removed those and use now mor sc44 challenger locomotive) but i didn't have the chance to record it... but a least, it was kinda my 1st "rail fanning" this year!
Love the habs in NHL from Montreal
Booooooooooooo maple leafs forever
13:32 the F59s in the same spot
Well at least someone outside of Montréal agree that the new EXO repaint looks ugly and blant than the AMT era before the Quebec government abolished them.
Great Vid Montreal West Station is a good spot!
The three Metro Door "chimes" are based on the Three gear transition sounds on the Metro departing a stration
Great selection of trains, but the crossing bell noise gets irritating really fast. Might I suggest finding a quieter location to film?
Beautiful Trains..👌
Nice video
Paint scheme is cool and has many types of trains and rolling stock passenger railroad of dreams the Canadian e bells are bad tho they are a pain
The alp 45 looks cool
Excellent video, likes from me.
How long was the AMT logo was retained after Agence Métropolitaine de Transport was disbanded?
@Joshua White It's sad, and thanks for saying why.
@Joshua White Same
At 17:31 I see a new allo exo coach
Wait what I never seen those thanks!
I would have thought how GO Transit would basically go from Toronto to Montreal and maybe the AMT EXO Train would go up to Toronto
I know most of these locations been there in person.
These trains have two horns... one is for normal use and the other for emergencies right?
By having two horn sets, they are not required to test them in the morning and thus not impacting residents near yards
That is honestly one of the stupidest things I have ever read... the trains should be able to honk the horns and test as necessary. It sucks people are so uptight about train horns.
Many exo overnight yards are located very close to residential areas.
@@TransitQuebec if you move near a train yard, you should know what you’re getting yourself into in terms of noise. The people who move next to a train yard and complain about horns or next to a school and complain about kids screaming wow me
@@ElevationStationProductions The problem is that in some cases on the exo network , the yard came AFTER the residential areas there build next to. Many lines on exo network started as mitigation mesure for major road works so they build yard where the can. On the exo St-Jérôme line, yard is next to residence, that were there first !
I think all e-bells are annoying, but I much prefer the Canadian Transtronic bells to the Graham-White 373 bells. Much less harsh sounding, and they sound more like a real train bell to me
Unlike the Graham White 373 Electronic Solenoid Bell, which was recorded from a real Bronze Bell?
At Dorval u can see via rails too.
I LOVE THE METRO STM AND EXO BANIBLEUE
two horns but they never use them... in those areas lol... can you goto a crossing where they do or link a vid where you got'm? great vid though, good catches and good quality!
Nice video Michael!
The F59PH and the F59PHI looks just like the Amtrak surfliner.
Wait.- Since this vid is on Sep 25 2018
it means it was my B-DAY............................................................................................................................
What’s the F59 loco bell?
It’s called a Transtronic e-bell. They aren’t as common as the Graham-White e-bell, and are rarely heard outside of Canada
@@PaulsDMVRailroadsandAviation the NM Rail Runner uses them
Alex The Railfan Texas TRE uses them too
If you wanna see the repainted coach, it’s at 17:29.
Nice video!
The safetran type 2 e-bell or the general signals type 2 e-bell sounds very loud because someone is recording right next to it.
700 series Bombardier single level cars. Where are they now?
2:51 looks like a mix between a CTC-1 and a shoreliner 2
Why the EXO Trains Didn't Blow The Horn While Railroad Crossing Activated?
And it sounds like one of those commuter trains have a electronical bell Because I keep hearing one of those bells that sound like electronic.
13:00 Can GO Transit refurbished cab car will had this e bell I think
Canada Communter Train 🇨🇦 Playmobil
Why are they fitted with 2 horns?
Is it just me or do those single level coaches look really long
sc0tte416 yeah true they are called “COMET CARS”
These are basically American trains except with some European touch to it
3:16 what engine?
Aydin Lutmer GP ALP45DP, Similar to New Jersey Transit’s other than AMT specs!
@@TheJRBuff oh, cool! Thanks
@@mercedes8192 So were NJTs.
It came slow and skipped what is wrong with these trai s are they too lazy jeez
Its because the station is in a school zone, engineers are limited to a certain speed.
those back cars look like the cars from a go train, are they the same?
Why is there no horn action
because there are quiet zones
Personally I love AMT but they should stick to 1 model for coaches and engines and stick too it. Although there are all very nice
Try telling that to GO Transit train fans in the Toronto area. It’s great to have old F59PHs on select routes but it won’t be long before it all looks the same with just MP40s and the newer ones.
Jacob Estrin I live in the Northern Virginia (USA) area, and the commuter railroad near me, the Virginia Railway Express (VRE), only has MP36 locos and Nippon Sharyo Gallery coaches. It’s pretty boring in my opinion
Why do they have two horns?
Dual canadian style.
@@seaboardspastic For some reason all of AMT's yards are put in quiet zones so they are not allowed to run horn tests. So they just put on a second horn incase one is broken. Makes them quite loud when they do happen to use the horn.
#Savemontrealscommutertrains
Sorry , got tired of the constant ringing of the crossing bell and the constant creeping line of Montreal 's commuter trains coming from nowhere and arriving at nowhere .
If you watch the whole thing, the locations change
200th like!
Why do they have so many horns? 😂
extra incase the main one fails. but either way the horns are still loud on their own
back when it was proper AMT logos and now the "there was a attempt" logos
The Bell Is Just Like In The USA.

Three different engines, three different coach types. That’s just too much
3:14 looks like an NJTransit painted blue
With the ALP45 and multilevels
What no horn action
