    Chaos on stage with Dickey's guitar, but they still are the best damn band in the land. Dickey just kills it!

      Jack Pearson is a virtuoso... probably the guy who channelled Duane's spirit in his playing more than any other guitarist the band ever had..... including Derek Trucks and Warren Haynes.
      Jack is a monster guitarist... and just keep getting better and better the older he gets.

      I don't know as The Allman's were not a Southern Rock band . Everyone that came after them were.

    • @andrewptob
      @andrewptob 8 лет назад +2

      Dickey used one for a while in the late 90s. His Goldtop was at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for a while. For that period, he first used a 335 when Warren was there, then he started using a Strat when Jack Pearson came on board, perhaps to better compliment Jack's Strat.

    Where's Warren Haynes?

    • @boblackey1
      @boblackey1 9 лет назад +12

      Warren Haynes left the ABB after the Beacon run in March of 1997. He returned in 2001 to see how it felt to be playing with the band again after his mate Allen Woody passed away and officially rejoined the ABB in 2002 as Dickey's replacement. If you read Alan Paul's book, in late 1996 Dickey was trying to attack Butch Trucks but Alan Woody stopped him and Dickey slugged Woody in the face then pulled a knife on him. He and Warren Haynes decide to split after they finished the Beacon run in 1997 apparently due to this. By 2000 Gregg and Butch were planning to quit which would have ended the ABB but when they found out each other was quitting, they spoke on the phone and agreed to stay if Jaimoe joined them to sack Dickey. I think Butch wanted it permanent but Jaimoe wouldn't go with that but did agree to a temporary suspension but Dickey hired a lawyer and apparently quit. Derek Trucks was already there replacing Jack Pearson in 1999 who replaced Warren Haynes in 1997. They hired Jimmy Herring to replace Dickey for the summer 2000 tour but he felt very uncomfortable replacing a living member of the ABB so he refused to continue. Gregg said they almost folded the band then but they got Warren Haynes back and decided to continue. They did fold the band last fall after Derek Trucks and Warren Haynes announced they wanted out of the ABB. Derek said he thought they were going to fold it up after the 40th anniversary but some wanted to keep going but when they hit the 45th mark. Derek and Warren were absolutely ready to move on. Derek also said someone got cold feet last fall and that prompted Gregg to announce they would replace Warren and Derek but that collapsed when Gregg decided it was best to end it while they still sounded good.

      bob lackey Thanks for replying with those details. I knew that there was some drama over Dickey's departure, and I knew that many band mates wanted Dickey out, but I didn't know any details. I followed ABB through the early 70's, and bought all of their albums, but I'd practically written them off by the end of the 80's. I see Haynes and Trucks as saviors of the band (especially Haynes). With Haynes and Trucks, they thrived again - and not like Skynyrd, who I believed became a parody of themselves. By the time they hung it up at the end of 2014, they were back on the top of their game.

    Too bad Dickey's guitar playing was so sloppy here. Otherwise it's a kick ass performance. His playing with the Abb suffered from that point till they parted ways.
