I am from Serbia, I have just discovered I have Hashimoto's a few days ago. My immunologist ordered the blood work, specifically vitamin D levels and thyroid hormones and antibodies - just based on a few symptoms I told her I had - allergic rhinitis and dyshidrosis on my palms. She even wrote in the report, before the results from the blood test came back, that she suspects I have Hashimoto's. I am visiting her today for the final tests reading, she is about to prescribe medications and supplements and I am sure, vitamin D will be the first one. I am so glad she knew about this correlation.

I'm 39 male, felt weak and "sick" for years. I had problem with concentration, memory, was loosing hair, sweting at nights, no energy for nothing, IBS, I also had slightly higher body temperature and so on. Turns out my thyroid antibody are around 900IU! my vitD is at 17 and that I also have fatty liver. But my thyroid hormons are within range. I was told sooner or later they won't be and I will have to suplements these hormons but it might be in 6 months or 10 years. I was told to suplement vit d and selenium. In 3 months vit d went to 32, antibody droped to 620. But I was also told by the doctor that it is uncurable and it doesn't really matter if it drops as it will never be below limit again 😢 Anyways most if the time I feel much better, not 10 of 10 but let say around 7 and it was around 4-5 before. Also healing my liver probably helped, I eat some antyinflamantory suplements like turmeric and I changed diet, more fruits, vegs, avocado oil, olive oil, chia, fishes, omega 3, black seed oil, cut carbs, etc. and I start some light exercises. Last meal around 17.00. Slowly loosing weight 0.5kg/week and getting back to shape. Hopefully I will stay on the right path, so tired of being tired.

I was the 80's poster child of Hashimoto's. Levothyroxine (Synthroid) was all that was prescribed. Symptoms of lethargy, braid fog, low energy, All of the l aspects of my life that was hard because I worked full time as an RN, I had two small children, and a demanding husband at the time. I went through hell for 20 plus years after doing my own research and what my body needed was liothyronine. Once I started that in addition to my Levothyroxine, everything cleared up and I felt human again. I'm 62 now, and ppl I tell this to can't believe it. They think the most energetic times of their lives were in their 30's to 40's. NOT me. the opposite. With that being said, I've had a wonderful life after age 40 since I added liothyronine. I wish I had the Vit D info available to me back then but there was limited resources and I was very busy with trying to keep up back then. Anyway, just thought I'd share that.

It is better to take K2 with Vit D3. Vit D3 pulls Calcium from digestive tract into your blood and K2 directs Ca to your bones and teeth and away from soft tissues like kidney. Check it out if you can. Mg and Zinc are also important. Strontium helps to keep the Ca in your bones.

    • @policani

you MUST take Vitamin D3 with K2MK7, or it will drive calcium into your soft tissues instead of to your bones. Per above, K2, Magnesium, Zinc, and Stronium are all necessary - and most Americans are Magnesium deficient. Whats worse is most supplements contain the wrong forms of Magnesium and Zinc - don't use the oxide form of these metals.

No, you mean the K2 pulls the calcium from the blood. It shouldn't be in the blood because it can cause vascular problems. K1 isn't what you need because it is used for clotting blood, but K2 works.
Get your Cholecalciferol (D3) levels checked. Keep it over 50, but I like to keep mine at 70-100. Level 67 is good. I take 4000-5000 IU'S daily. It keeps your immune system strong.
People with a Gall Bladder have a difficult time absorbing Vitamin D3 which is a HORMONE! it's a fat soluble "vitamin" so take it with food.

    I've observed the same thing.
My anti TPO was dropping in numbers and when I stopped taking vitamin D my anti TPO numbers went up. Along with vitamin D I was taking Selenium and Zink which I also stopped. So all in all, it is clear to me that I need to take those supplements.
Also, vitamin D is an immuno regulator by definition so how can body function properly without that? It just can't. Not sure how Northern Europeans used to manage that except for eating big fish rich in vitamin D. Hopefully my next results will be better!
    Good luck everyone!

I have a similar problem to you. Hashimoto thyroiditis and very low vitamin D levels which makes me feel crap. I started taking thyroxine and vitamin D but then my calcium levels shot up and gave me multiple renal stones. I was only taking 2000IU of Vitamin D. I believe there is a strong relation between thyroid, vitamin D and kidneys.

Make sure you take vitamin K2 seven with your vitamin D, or you will get a buildup of calcium in your veins. I got access calcium in my carotid. I’m working on reversing that with nattokinase had a scan seems to be working. Thing is not to let it build up in the first place hence the vitamin K 2-7

My vit D was 18, i have low thyroid. I take it upon myself to get my own blood test done and we have a great place here in my town, it's a health fair and they have a menu of all these different things you can test your blood for. This year is the first time since 2014 that I've had my vitamin d tested. My doctor wants me to take 5,000 units but I think I'm going to be taking more. I am low energy and my hair breaks off faster than it can grow and it's thinned out an awful lot. I don't have the muscle aches and I don't get cold but I can relate to a lot of your symptoms. Thank you for shedding so much light on this cuz my doctor never made the connection either!

Dont forget the magnesium very important when you take a bit higher doses of d. We are taking it now to fill up our D vitamin after the flu 10 000 ug for one week, then we go down again to 5000 ug. We take magnesium 800 because all that d vitamin requires it, but also it has to be enough for other parts of the body. We have been talking about higher doses but haven't decided yet.

Other aspects my functional doctor told me to have food sensitivity test. I have chocolate and caffeine sensitivity. Food sensitivity and intolerance also responsible for messing up your antibodies count. Once you have Hashimotos your body doesn’t absorb vitamin and nutrients properly enough . Let me tell you something, all these doctors are same.Atleast they asked you to take VIT D test. But in my case(i live in india) , where i have thyroid almost 6 years, not even a single doctor go in to details. All they do is see the results, write the tablets, and come back once they are finished. Their method got me thinking its something common and not so important condition. Only until last year i stumbled upon a video and i could i have i have all those symptoms, which i should not be having, and these so called COMMON thyroid issue is very very important to take care of , especially in women. So people, if you see even a slightest change in your body, even a doctor says its common, please reasearch yourselves well, as its OUR BODY, and we need to take care of it.

I am so pleased I watched your video because I also have hypothyroidism and a deficiency in vitamin D and like you I am terrified about having kidney stones so I reduced mine thinking I would end up with stones with too much calcium. I already had a kidney stone which got into my urethra, I think that’s what it was called, it was Very Painful and I ended.up having an operation and a stay in hospital. I live in the UK. I am in my late 60s, I had all of these symptoms including very cold feet, I was wearing thick thermal socks. I’ve had all those things like feeling very lethargic, I already have degenerative spondylolethesis so pain wasn’t a surprise to me. I have terribly dry skin etc. I never told my gp about halving my meds, because I couldn’t get an appointment, but I then started back on my full dose but I’m still feeling exhausted, if I have 2hours sleep or 7 hours sleep I feel tired. I take levothyroxine, one per day and the other ones twice a day. I cannot work out why I’m still having all these symptoms. Thank you for telling us about this

Hi Marian, check your diet, you may not be eating the right combo of foods. You have to go out to sunshine, still try to do some exercise even walking round the house or climbing few steps helps. Find a therapeutic massage therapist and get a good rub from head to toe, then do take the noted supplements from Vit D3, K2-7, Selenium, magnesium glycinate, use olive oil to cook and eat more green veggies and legumes, while drinking more water, avocado, eggs, and no bread or soda drinks.

I like your video with lucid presentation between Hypothyroidism and Vitamin D.
Two months ago I had bypass surgery. Before surgery my thyroid TSH was 16. After Surgery, it came to 6.2. Doctors advised me to take 150 mg Thyroxine Tablet. I pointed that my TSH level has decreased to 6.2. Then the doctors gave me 100mg Thyroxine tablet.
I am not able tolerate cold (Intolerance to cold) 😢.
When AC is in 25 or 26 C, not able have proper sleep.
From your video and with research paper cited, I should take Vitamin D tablet after consulting the Endocrinologist.
Thanks for your wonderful correlation between Hypothyroidism Vs Vitamin D.
    Best Wishes.

My Natural Doctor put me on 50,000IU of Vit D daily for a year while monitoring my calcium levels monthly. It helped my antibodies to lower but hit a plateau. We switched to 30,000mcg of liquid Vit A and that helped again. I have high Epstein Barr antibodies which are also coming down and the theory is that EBV is living in my thyroid and causing my immune system to attack it. It’s slowly getting better. So the best explaination for my issues is low sun exposure and D3 deficiency. I started to take D3 supps together with K2 and magnesium...my endo said my D3 was at 32 and according to her, OK. Well, i dont think so. Before covid, i never had such issues because i was always outside.

It's a big problem, that the body often isn't seen as a complex, codepending system, but as a bunch of several independent factors. I have been diagnosed with Hashimotos as well, together with low Vit. D and extremely low iron. But instead of fixing the levels of Vit.D and iron beforehand, they gave me L-Thyroxin right away. I even asked the doctor, if supplements will affect my Hashimotos, but she said no and that I have to take the hormones.
For me, this wasn't acceptable, as I was experiencing bad symptoms with even little amounts of L-Thyroxin - heart palpitations, shortness of breath, bad vision and brain fog. So I do the same that you did: reading papers and studies, trying to link the pieces together. I also feel like most of the doctors don't have the time or motivation to do this for the patient.
