- NOAA is preparing for a milestone satellite launch in 2024. GOES-U will be the fourth and final satellite in NOAA’s latest generation of Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellites called the GOES-R Series-the nation’s most advanced weather-observing and environmental monitoring satellite system.

Very nice video.
Will the Goes-R satellite images be public? So we can further disprove Flat Earthers.
What will happen with GOES 16? Will it just become and on obit spare?
I think that's basically the plan. It's going to join GOES 17 and be put in a storage orbit. They don't want a repeat of what happened with GOES 7 where they only had one operational geostationary satellite. They also say this on their website www.nesdis.noaa.gov/news-events/noaas-goes-u
Two things can happen to old satellites: For the closer satellites, engineers will use its last bit of fuel to slow it down so it will fall out of orbit and burn up in the atmosphere. Further satellites are instead sent even farther away from Earth. Goes 16 will be sent further away in space.
I'm sure 16 will be sent to a parking orbit not unlike 17 and be used for emergency backup operations before it is sent to a storage orbit to be decommissioned. There are still likely several more years of 16's mission, though it's data likely not readily disseminated.
Excellent video!!
GOES who?
Goes "arrr". Like a pirate.
