  • For nearly 50 years, NOAA and NASA have partnered to develop and advance NOAA’s geostationary satellites as part of the most sophisticated weather-observing, environmental monitoring, and space weather monitoring satellite system in the world.
When NOAA’s GOES-U satellite is launched in June of 2024, it will be the fourth and final satellite in the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellites (GOES) - R Series, and a bridge to a new age of advanced satellite technology.
The GOES-R Series is the Western Hemisphere’s most sophisticated weather-observing and environmental monitoring system. It also provides advanced imagery and atmospheric measurements, real-time mapping of lightning activity, and space weather observations.
When GOES-U reaches orbit, it will be the culmination of nearly five decades of state-of-the-art geostationary Earth-observing satellites.
GOES-U is tentatively scheduled to launch on June 25, 2024 at 5:16 p.m. ET.
