  • It was a tough weekend all around for SEC officials as huge missed/blown calls were prevalent in several games. Oddly enough, it was also time for SEC officials to do their annual Take Your Daughter to Work Day.

      @Billy Teaster they absolutely did not. Every bad call went against PSU. Both intentional grounded, punting on 3rd down, the blown 4th and 1 call.
      The 4th and goal pass might have been interference, OFFENSIVE PI, as the player fell down and then grabbed the psu player to take him down too, and the late PI against Auburn was clearly PI.

    They are right about targeting. To me there's a huge difference between a guy intentionally taking a cheap shot at an opponent's head and a guy trying to make a legitimate defensive play and accidentally contacting a diving opponent in the head. The rules should reflect that.

    • @WellnessRosterHQ
      @WellnessRosterHQ 2 года назад +8

      Just get rid of it. You can't make a rule and then have exception after exception. It is a stupid rule. You either can or cannot hit the head of a player. If that I a rule then make it so and enforce it. Many penalties are subjective. Pass interference for example. Now "hand fighting" is ok. when does it cross the line? You see different calls every game on this. Used to be You couldn't touch the guy.

    • @williammckinney7765
      @williammckinney7765 2 года назад +21

      Targeting with intent vs incidental. Like the old facemask rule.
      Or at a minimum the first offense shouldn't lead to an ejection.

    • @fredwerza3478
      @fredwerza3478 2 года назад +11

      At the very least, they should copy the NFL and have a "review team" at NCAA headquarters look at it in real time and make a judgment call. I'm more comfortable with a panel of experts looking at a potential targeting call versus a single official at a game who may have severe bias as to the outcome of the game.

    • @zacharybarnhart334
      @zacharybarnhart334 2 года назад +17

      It’s stupid especially because a lot of times the offensive player puts his head down too and the defender happens to hit it

    • @rionin26
      @rionin26 2 года назад +2

      What's bad on the penalties is the way they are implemented and enforced. For instance holding, it happens every play, only called when underdog gets a big gain on a top ranked team, Or If it happens to top ranked team, the game is already out of hand and it's an appearance of see we do penalize them.
      Targeting was put in for a good cause. The downside is how it's implemented, I see countless times where offensive players changes their trajectory on a hit. The only time a defender needs to be ejected is if they launch themselves key emphasis on launch, and the player is defenseless and didn't change their trajectory and they hit them above the shoulders. If they did it like that, they wouldn't have as many ejected calls. Same for stiff arm, runner can grab defenders mask and pull them down. That should be facemask to.

      @@ach31337 yeap, saw one of the PI calls.
      The no call on the horse collar was questionable, but iirc it was low enough on the jersey to enter that grey zone of what "area" means in the wording of the rule. However, I'll admit my memory may be wrong and it was higher.
      Beyond that, Florida also got away with a pretty blatant hold on one of their scoring drives.
      Further, the no call on the stiffarm/facemask could also be argued, and I'd have certainly called it, but precedent from previous seasons suggest it is rarely called on the ball carrier unless he starts actually pulling on the facemask, rather than pushing, even when said push turns the defender's head, so I didn't hold that one against the particular refs, but rather the system in general.
      So, I'd say I saw only 3 blown calls, the horse collar(arguably), the PI call, and no call on the holding, which seemed pretty normal to me.
      I'll again say that the no call on the facemask is a systemic issue that they need to change the way they call, rather than a blown call.

      The intentional grounding no call that cost Arkansas a win last season may have been the reference to "intentional grounding being a state of mind". Overall, considering the speed of the game and the need to make split second decisions, the refs do a pretty decent job, even SEC referees.

      Funny, I thought it was in reference to the botched punt downing and subsequent TD return in MSU-Memphis @ Memphis.

      @@stephanledford9792 No, it was a reference to ridiculous call on Penn State in 2nd Quarter (receiver cut route short and was zero pressure on QB throwing it) vs not calling it on on Nix in 3rd Quarter when about to be flattened by 2 PSU defenders but was still inside tackle box (hadn’t cleared left hash mark) when he threw it away).

      @@MAH358-94 I missed seeing that game, but as an Arkansas resident and fan I remember the win given to Auburn over Arkansas in 2020 when the Auburn QB spiked the ball backwards (a fumble) that was recovered by Arkansas. By giving the ball back to Auburn, they were able to kick the game winning field goal instead of losing. You are probably correct, though - the satire is probably addressing this weekend's games.

    As an Arkansas fan, I laughed. It's time some other schools were due. Especially after getting screwed in the Auburn game last year, glad to see Karma bite you in the A$$. Good Job SEC crew! You did your job in Happy Valley and Memphis! Keep up the good work.

    That first down that was given reminders me of SC and Michigan’s bowl game right before Clowney recovered a fumble after that massive hit. Not sure which crew worked that game though.
