"“I felt that it was too difficult to win through the SEC to win a national championship,” Bowden said. “I felt like our best route would be to go through the ACC and that did prove out to be correct. But, I don’t know if we could have made it through the SEC.”
And he reconfirmed this on his own FB page in 2014.
$120M is JUST the exit fee. Buying back our TV rights would cost somewhere around $350M. It would cost nearly HALF A BILLION dollars to leave the ACC.
It got very tense there for a moment.

P.S. As a Pac-12 fan (for another few weeks) I’m glad Washington won. Because we’ve been on the short end of the stick 2-3 times. Like when a team loses their conference title game and still gets in 😂. But like I said, follow the money. That’s why it’s now the PAC-2 😢

Same color, not remotely the same type. Finally, your persecution of TCU being "not good enough" rings hollow since they put a +50 burger on blue-blood Michigan, with Harbaugh.

Texas being in isn't what is making everyone mad - since they had a clear victory over Bama. But I guess someone in the committee wanted a shot of a do over of that game....
Texas actually makes sense though. No bad losses, a win over the SEC champion on the road, lots of solid play. Alabama has looked extremely suspect in several games.
Matt absolutely positively does not miss. This is both hilarious and completely spot on.

Matt is an Alabama fan and everyone knows this. He does great keeping it hidden during these videos, but it does bleed through from time to time.

The best one yet. You did a fabulous job with this one. The bringing up Bobby Bowden words was straight SEC cut throat cold.
Most out of context line of his ever made. Not to mention the one time Bowden was blatantly wrong and biased. The acc was just as strong if not stronger in the 80's and 90's than the sec. Not to mention nothing ever changed with FSU scheduling the best teams ooc and sec teams as well. Even now the acc still has the 2nd most titles in the past 40 yrs. That's the power of media being in bed with conferences and spinning the narrative

That was literally an episode of law and order. Holy smokes. I thought the first half of the trial was good enough, but then BOOM the second half of the trial had me pulling for the home team in a wa I didn't think I was capable. What an emotional roller coaster.

I have to say I had not heard that info about FSU, the banks, and the ACC exit fee. But I do remember hearing why Fla St went to ACC - easier conference. And everyone knew it too.
That was hands down the best SEC Roll Call. I don't even care about basketball, and only slightly more about baseball, but you need to cover those just so we can get more of these.

Peak Roll Call. I’ve watched it a few times now and in my mind, I’m picturing Matt playing each role live and just running to each spot, changing clothes, delivering his lines, and then editing out the transitions. Matt, these SEC roll calls should become a 2 or 3 day a week thing during football season. No one else has anything like it and these are absolutely the best! I can imagine some TV sports networks being interested in these as they are so well thought out from you as well. There is every bit as much truth in these as comedy. Excellent job!

I've been a Florida State fan as long as I can remember and at the age of 66 I thought I had seen it all but this beats all. They were ranked fourth not fifth.... It sucks cause it all about the money playoff committee. Nice job playing this out Matt. Thanks for sharing
So FSU's money to leave the conference is ok then? As an ACC school alum, it makes it a lot harder to back them wrong though the choices were.
So I get to watch two schools that got screwed play each other now. We'll see how well they do.
@@jawjagrrl When you look at the money the SEC and Big10 will make in coming years versus the money that the ACC and Big12 will make, yes, every team that wants to compete in college football at the highest level should be doing whatever they can do get into one of those two conferences. Staying in the ACC long term is not sustainable when the money will be dwarfed by the new Power 2. In 5 years, the only two conferences that will really matter in football are the SEC and the Big10 - I would argue that we are already seeing that.
Actually, You dropped to fifth. That's why I always say it's best to be number one so there's no question.

Money isn't the reason FL State didn't make it, it's because after watching Texas/Oklahoma State and Alabama/Georgia game, they watched the ACC game and it was just plain pitiful. I felt bad for both teams, It was 100% clear that was a completely different caliber team playing. You know it and everyone else knows it. The number 1 criteria was to get the best 4 teams in and Florida State isn't one right now in their current state.
I would have expected more upset from Georgia. Undefeated the whole season, then they lose one game to Alabama and they are out of the playoffs? Nothing against Alabama, but I don't get it.

Yep! Here I am again a 70 yo granny who doesn’t watch college football and whose husband only watches OSU. So much of the references are over my head but it doesn’t matter. It doesn’t matter at all because I did know that FSU wasn’t in the playoffs even though they were undefeated. So I was anxious to see what Matt would have to say. Never disappointed. Inconsistencies? LMFAO. It's not the CFP Committee's fault that FSU plays in a weak ass conference and thus has a weak ass schedule.
As SEC Matt pointed out, FSU could have joined the SEC in the early 90s but didn't because "the SEC is too tough." It's quite fitting that a little over 30 years later that those very words ends up biting FSU in the ass. Got to love Karma and her wicked sense of humor.
