Never realized how well Pikmin could work as a tower defense game, nights were definitely a nice change of pace. My usual strat was to amass an army, and when the first 'they're getting active' prompt appeared, I'd send Oatchi back to patrol the Lumiknoll while murdering everything around me. Then I learned true fear after the Smoky Proggs. Didn't even know destroying the eggs despawned them, just thought it would bring them sooner.
For anyone else, it's a question of how long they can survive against the nocturnal creatures. *For this guy, it's a question of how long the nocturnal creatures can survive against HIM.*
theres a tip in the loading screens that says you can defeat it early by destroying its "nectar egg," so i spent 3 tries specifically trying to look for another egg for each Progg before just saying F It, ill kill the guys themselves
This is really cool! I was interested to see how the night levels could be optimised since it ends as soon as you kill the last enemy and the fact that the Glow Pikmin will always follow the current leader when idle making for some really interesting route decisions (especially considering that only Oatchi can rush but only the Captain can use the Glowmob). While short, the night levels were definitely one of my favourite additions in Pikmin 4 and I can't wait to see what optimisation and routes will come in the future for this interesting category.
I *struggled* against the spiders. Got so used to charging with Oatchi that I completely forgot about the homing stun attack from the rookie. My goodness I made things harder than they were supposed to be...
@@tysoniacrypoid575 In the game they say that doesn't count as dying since their light just returns to the lumiknoll to get recycled. It's the game's explanation for why glow deaths don't count toward your total death counter.
ice cube during autumnal gully: no deaths, beat every creature, no glow seeds used, no damage to lumiknoll me during autumnal gully: i have attempted this like 15 times, cried twice and now i cant breathe (i beat it eventually, thats when i couldnt breathe bc i was so stressed bc of how close i was to finishing, i was also shaking afterwards) but at least i can say i 100% the night expeditions without any outside help
Same. I was at it for like 2 hours, until I beat it! All that time the Smokey proggs and boldy long legs kept ruining my runs. Until watching this video, I had no idea that you could just destroy the Smokey Progg eggs before they hatched.
@@DKQuagmire i knew you could break them bc i did that in earlier levels but in autumnal gully theyre so far away and im always too scared to go too far from the lumiknolls 😭
Most of the time they can't die, like the game says. Key word: Most. Interestingly it seems though there is a small chance for many enemies to actually kill them, especially some of the 'boss' enemies. Smoky Progs in particular do not care that Glow Pikmin "cannot die", any glow pikmin that hits their weird gloom is gone for good instantly, just like any other Pikmin would be.
You’re half right. Glow Pikmin can be crushed/eaten, but it doesn’t technically kill them (instead, they turn into photons and travel back to the lumiknoll). However, they don’t fly back to you after this happens. So while it isn’t technically a “death”, you still lose the pikmin

I ALWAYS end the night expeditions by Kipling everyone
Didn't even know you could prevent the smoky progs from spawning by destroying the eggs first.
Great run!
You could do the same thing in Pikmin 1 which was their first appearance, I just didn't know where they spawned when I played through these

I am so exited for the first 100% run, we’re getting closer all the time. Just the main day gameplay left at this point and extra hand

having watched a few speedruns I'm axcited to see a no death speedrun because they'll have to actually do the night missions :P
By “No hit” I think he meant no damage taken to the Lumiknoll
by "no deaths" i think they meant no Glow pikmin casualties since... they can't die
@@just_call_me_leo they can get crushed and eaten

Can't wait for the individual score runs for Dandori challenges.

You have excellent dandori, new blood.
awesome run ✊
What are the d-pad shortcuts you use?
why didnt you ever use the charge horn when collecting the crystal rocks?
What's the next speedrun that you'll be doing
verrrrry nice
Can what he’s doing even be considered protecting the lumiknoll?
wait if you break the egg, smoky progg doesnt spawn at all?? huh
Yes. This was also the case in the first Pikmin game
@@ice_cubewait, I thought in Pikmin 1, attacking the egg was what caused the progg to spawn in the first place...

How do you make the glow pikmin charge in a sphere like in the last night expedition ?
