For being an alternative looking chick you don’t know shit! B-52’s is one of the most dynamic, unique bands you will ever see or hear. Also a B-52 is a big ass bomber air plane used in the 50's and 60's to carry Nukes. (might also be a vitamin !!) B-52 is also called a 'STRATOFORTRESS"
Great reaction, Leo! Hailing from Athens, GA (also the home of R.E.M.) the B-52's were the ULTIMATE party band. "Love Shack" was undeniable and incontestably their biggest hit, but they had a solid career and had several lesser chart hits, so no one ever calls them a one-hit-wonder. Their best stuff was ten years before this, right at the birth of Postpunk and New Wave. They were ALWAYS effing weird, though. Their first hit and most 'important' song, probably, would be "Rock Lobster" (1979/US#56, UK#12), a nonsense New Wave *BANGER* with a 50s Sci-Fi atmosphere, herky-jerky dance beats, nonsense lyrics, and 60s Surf Rock guitar licks, they became one of the most singular forces in popular music. Also from that early era "Dance This Mess Around", "Planet Claire" (both made US#24 on the Billboard dance chart, along with "Rock Lobster" on a 12" EP), "Private Idaho" (1980/US#74), "Party Out of Bounds", and the weird and PERFECT "Give Me Back My Man" (these last three also charted together in the US at #5 on the dance chart). In 1982, they started incorporating more synthesizers, drum machines, and modern production. They did the "Mesopotamia" EP with David Byrne (Talking Heads) as producer and the "Party Mix" remix EP. It's funny you said they aren't singing about money, but they actually have an awesomely silly song about running a counterfeit operation called "Legal Tender" (1983/US#81). Along with the stellar "Song for a Future Generation" (1983/UK#63) and "Whammy Kiss", these last three made the US dance charts together at US#9. The band were very close and family-like. As three gay guys and two lovely girls in the late 70s and into the 80s, they grabbed lots of attention and bonded. Plus Cindy Wilson was Ricky's little sister. Sadly, guitarist Ricky Wilson died of AIDS-related illnesses in the mid-80s, and the band went into a hiatus of sorts, only releasing a couple of underwhelming singles "Girl from Ipanema Goes to Greenland" (1986/US#10, dance chart) and "Summer of Love" (1987/US#3, dance chart) during the late 80s. After a few years out of the rat race and shifting of duties (drummer Keith Strickland took over guitar and songwriting duties) the band teamed up with Nile Rodgers (super-producer, guitarist with CHIC) and Don Was (also a superproducer and half of the New Wave/Dunk outfit, Was (Not Was)) to work on a new LP, Cosmic Thing. This is where "Love Shack" (1989/US#3, UK#2) turned them from underground dance heroes into household names. Other hits from that album included "Roam" (1989/US#3, UK#17), "Channel Z" (1989/US Alternative#1), and "Deadbeat Club" (1990/US#30), possibly their only somber hit. Sadly, after the saturation of "Love Shack" the B-52's had kind of worn out their welcome, somehow, and had trouble transitioning successfully into the 90s, commercially. The lovely Kate Pierson appeared on a few R.E.M. songs, including the now (unfairly) maligned "Shiny Happy People" (1991/US#10, UK#6). She also threw down beautifully on the forgotten Iggy Pop duet, Candy (1990/US#28). When the B-52's finally followed up their 1989 LP in 1992, Grunge had rewritten the landscape. Their album and single "Good Stuff" (1992/US#28) sold well, initially, on the strength of their earlier stuff (topping the Alternative charts for 4 weeks straight upon its release), but their fortunes fell fast. Nothing else from the album charted significantly and after a corny, ill-advised stint as "the BC-52's" for a remake of "(Meet) The Flintstones" (1994/US#3, UK#3), they all-but disappeared again for a while, appearing occasionally to stage a lukewarm comeback or engaging in a cabaret tour of their oldies.
I was in the 11th grade when this came out, and had (still have, 30 years or so later) a best friend named Duane. When they say “bang bang on the door baby” we thought they were saying “Duane Duane at the door baby”! LOL! Bringing back awesome memories! 💕💕💕
This here was the “cruising” song! Much different than cruising music today, bumps, thumps bass. Back then, you pulled up to a stop sign and all around started sining the song.
I've even heard Love Shack played over store speakers!! But this was the perfect song for you to react to. The redhead does a song with R.E.M. called Shiny Happy People!! It's a great song, so maybe check that out next.
B52's were one of my favorite bands. My friend and I used to jam out and chase everyone out when we sang "dance this mess around." Yes, Rock Lobster and "There's a moon in the sky" "52 girls" When it comes to lyrics, they break all of the rules and prove that it doesn't have to make sense to be fun!!
My husband's favorite song from B52's is "Roam." The harmonizing of the ladies' voices are so perfect together. I like it too, but Love Shack is my top favorite. :-)
I've loved the B-52's since the first time I heard them back in the 80's. The Cosmic Thing album is a thing of beauty, but you can't go wrong with Rock Lobster. Also, on their later stuff, Good Stuff is a fun fun trippy song :)
That was exactly how I told my husband we were pregnant. I left a note in his lunchbox "Tin Roof Rusted". I sat back and waited for him to call. 12:32pm the phone rang and I could actually hear the smile on his voice. Baby girl 7 mos. later.
I've always loved the B-52's since their first album. Saw them live in 2000. They had the same energy as they did when they first came out. Fun great New Wave music.
My old apartment was labeled the Love Shack! Everyone would come back to my place after the bar and carry on! My favourite drag queen, RuPaul is in this too! Enjoy! 😜
The name B-52's, comes from the "beehive" hairdos the female singers wore during the group's first decade together. The hairdo style gets it's name from the nose cone design on a Boeing bomber aircraft produced from 1952 to 1962, the B-52 Bomber.
Kate Pierson from the B-52’s joined R.E.M. for “Shiny Happy People”. You should check it out since you’ve done both groups in the past few days. It has a similar vibe to this song.

Love it!!!
This song brings absolutely everyone together ❤ singing it! Love how all knows the words... bang bang 🎶 💜😘
This song brought out every time it played at our crab feed dances! Im 75 and i never knew what the hell she said. TIN ROOF.. RUSTED! Lol now i know!
LOL I always heard that was a slang term in the song for being pregnant. Not sure if that is true though
This here was the “cruising” song! Much different than cruising music today, bumps, thumps bass. Back then, you pulled up to a stop sign and all around started sining the song.
“No, don’t try to start up! Don’t try to start up!” Greatness!
At the end when he says your what! She says tin roof, rusted (means I'm pregnant) LOL
I've even heard Love Shack played over store speakers!! But this was the perfect song for you to react to. The redhead does a song with R.E.M. called Shiny Happy People!! It's a great song, so maybe check that out next.
B52's were one of my favorite bands. My friend and I used to jam out and chase everyone out when we sang "dance this mess around."
Yes, Rock Lobster and "There's a moon in the sky" "52 girls"
When it comes to lyrics, they break all of the rules and prove that it doesn't have to make sense to be fun!!
THE karaoke song.😂🎤🎶
I dunno garth brooks - friends in low places is THE karaoke song haha
@@TheJusnic82 that's one I requested a reaction to also.🎤👍 I think it would be a fun reaction. Love Garth. 💜
Salt n Pepa "Push It"
My personal favourite is Eternal Flame. But my party trick is 99 Luftballons (99 Red Balloons") by Nena
Mr. Video, love your reaction to this song! One of my all-time favorites by the B-52s!
if there was ever ever a party song !!
My husband's favorite song from B52's is "Roam." The harmonizing of the ladies' voices are so perfect together. I like it too, but Love Shack is my top favorite. :-)
I love love love this song 💖!
Baby girl 7 mos. later.
Awesome Mrs. Martin!
I've always loved the B-52's since their first album. Saw them live in 2000. They had the same energy as they did when they first came out. Fun great New Wave music.
This song is full of “Happiness”...so glad you enjoyed it!💜💜💜
😅😅😅 they caught you for a second there 🤣🤣🤣 the song & video you will appreciate & enjoy them 😎😎😎
My old apartment was labeled the Love Shack! Everyone would come back to my place after the bar and carry on! My favourite drag queen, RuPaul is in this too! Enjoy! 😜
The B-52s never fail to entertain or lift you spirits. Funky Dudes
Don't worry about the name thing Leo...it's part of the funniness! ! !
Bohemian Rhapsody for example.... That was hilarious!!
Don't change ANYTHING!! ♥
BTW... I'm on my WAY... don't worry... Just kiddin.

The word you were looking for is hilarity
One of the best feel good songs of all time!! Just pure fun to get out on the highway and belt it out with the people that make you happy!! Thanks Leo, this was one of the great iconic ones!! Keep on rockin...we love you!! 🎶🎶😘❤
"Planet Claire" is one of the best ever songs to smoke a joint to btw.
It has pink air. All the trees are red .No one every dies there. No one has a head.
I can still remember the words 35 or more years later.
But yeah get some prime in your lungs!
I was stoned and I missed it by Dr. Hook, best song to smoke a joint to. Hands down
@@paullyrenee "Since I've Been Loving You"- Led Zeppelin
When I was little, like 5-8 years old, this song would play at the roller rink and it was Game On! Timeless piece of art!
Ayyyyyeeeee you finally got to this banger always sing it when it comes on the radio
Ah man, I nearly got tears welling up when you were talking at the end..... I know nowadays the "music" (which it isn't really, mostly) is most definitely NOT what I had growing up. Or even further back in time.
🎶Those were the days, my friend. We thought they'd never end🎶🎵
