Gonna give you two the history of a love shack.
1. Love Shacks were a thing in the south during the 1950's-1980's. All of which were normally illegally built in the woods and farmers fields, they were a spot for Gay and Bi men and women to meet up for fun (sexual and non-sexual) during a time when they could still be arrested just for being LGBTQIA+. Most were built from cheap lumber and tin roofing, often painted green to keep from being seen in the air and decorated with things found mostly at yard sales people left in them. For Electricity, they either had to bring generators or steal from the nearest house available.
All of the members of the B-52's group are themselves gay. So they knew the love shack scene around the Atlanta area very well.
Parties at a love shack were invite only, but legendary in nature. (invite only to help reduce the risk of cops busting them). Usually the one thing they chipped in for as a luxury item for the shacks....a jukebox so they could play records they liked.
Most shacks were about 600-1,100 SQ ft. So they were not big....and did not have working plumbing, so you went in the woods.
Parties were known from my understanding to sometimes last an entire weekend. (Start Friday night and wrap up Sunday afternoon).
And people often carpooled to and from these events to keep from having too many cars out there, so they often road 6 in the back seat, 3 up front and 2-3 in the trunk for bigger cars like Chrysler produced. So you kept your circle tight if you wanted to go. This was during the times when cops especially in the south didn't always enforce seatbelt laws. Whomever was the party host collected the money and made sure coolers and food and drinks were out there, as well as booze and yes, often...weed and sometimes hard drugs.
So yeah...these parties were a favorite for the police to bust, if they could find the shack. Which did happen sometimes, so new ones were always being built in rural areas of the south. Almost all of them were within a few miles of a highway though to give people a chance to escape.
Awesome, thanks for sharing that with us:)
Holy snowcones!! Thank you for teaching me my new thing for the day❣️I’ve known this song since it came out and to understand exactly what it’s about is truly a treat🥰🖤
Thanks for the info Wolf I've heard this song before a handful of times and never knew about any of this. Hope you're doing well.
The movie you're thinkin' of is Little Shop of Horrors! A classic.
Exactly!
Feed me Seymour!
I was 17. Told my friend about this new Steve Martin comedy that just came out in the theater. So we went. And the opening credits song seemed to go on for a looooooong time. Had no idea it was a musical.
One of my favourites growing up. Audrey II lol. Such a good movie.
The theatre in my town did it live and my hometown too. Love the live shows!
I used to have a 1970 Mercury that you could fit 5 people in the trunk alone. The drive in was $5 a car load, we got our money’s worth.
I had a 72 Mercury
It was enormous
Cool story they still have some drive ins around today and I've always had a good experience going to them. Hope you're doing well.
"You're what?
Tinnnnnnnnnn roof
Rusted!"
🤣🤣🤣
It means pregnant in the 60's
Busted...
@@LagimusThat’s false. That was a rumour at the time when the song was released but 100% fabricated nonsense. It simply refers to the rusty tin roof of the Georga shack the song was written for. This has been confirmed by the band:)
The B-52's are from Athens, Ga. I saw them at a little dive bar before they became popular. They started drawing crowds too big for the bars to handle!
You're lucky I've only seen a handful of bands but none as cool as The B52's glad you got to explore music like that back then. Have a good one.
He said hop in my Chrysler, not bicycle. 🤣 These ladies can SING. Love their range and harmonies. Too many visits to the Green Shack, Half. 🤣
Also, this song is a whole party in & of itself! So much fun!! 😂♥️
The B52s were PURE FUN! "Planet Claire" and "Rock Lobster."
"Glitter on the mattress". Sounds like a party 😉
Favorite dynamic duos
1) Half N Jai
2) Batman and Robin
Zoinks in THE BUILDING ❤️❤️❤️ I didn’t forget about you. Dropping today
Yes sir-re bobski!
Starsky and Hutch aswell maybe? I don't know they just came to mind. Haha. Lots of interesting duos have existed though having more than one person always enhances the dynamic especially if they got a good interaction and flow going to make the experience memorable. Love Batman and Robin though was my favorite superhero and sidekick growing up. Thanks.
No, he said he “hopped in my Chrysler, it’s as big as a whale and it’s about to set sail. WOOOO” 😂 Same car he’s been talking about throughout the whole song.
Lmaoff..he missed it🤣🤣
My freind had a big old Chrysler Newport. I know for sure we had 11 people in there at one time. There was room for more specially if we put some in the trunk lol
Thank you!! I was hoping somebody would say this LOL, he didnt say bike😂
One if those '60's land yachts
Old and classic cars are definitely interesting and transports you back in time. Always wanted one but it's always been off and on when I actually have a car and never had enough options to get and drive one. Maybe I can eventually. Not the biggest fan of driving though as it feels dangerous but I can see why some people enjoy it as it can be a good experience and lets you get out and see the world a bit. Have a good one.
At 6:11 of this video, that woman with the afro and lilac tank top is RuPaul. AND soul train dance line was his idea for the video.
The b-52's Rock lobster is another good one
Now you have to listen to the B-52's ROCK LOBSTER!
A sign of a good strong heart is the ability to laugh at yourselves😂🎉
I love the young Ru Paul in this. Who would’ve thought how big he’d become, too!
Love Shack is a classic!!! We have a pizza place in here that still has a juke box and Love Shack is in it and it is played at least 10 times during our meal. Timeless!
I love "Love Shack"
Makes you feel good!!
Such a dope song STILL!!
Its "Little Shop Of Horrors"! I saw it on Braodway. So good!
That was great watching y’all get into the song and couch dance! Y’all really do give off good vibes baby! Been going thru a rough time, got on here to try to distract myself and this was the first video I saw. Thank you for giving me a smile and good vibes.🥰

I imagine the Green Shack is your local dispensary, lol.
Mine is called Kind Leaf, lol.
lol 😂
I’m sure one could find some green in the Love Shack.
Y’all crack me up !! You stopped when the music did and as soon as it started back started back w the head bobbing !! Lol 😂
Love your reaction ❤This song is a feel-good classic!-😁 Watch the video again and, if you watch closely, you'll catch a young RuPaul, who was a friend of the band and had a cable access show in Atlanta at the time. Love you guys ☮❤❤
I have yet to see a reactor notice!
That really is a fun song! Glad to see you guys back. Try playing “Joy to the world” by Three Dog Night. “If” you haven’t done it yet. I’m sure you’ll love it. 😉👍🏻
And then Ballroom Blitz and Little Willy by Sweet.
I am from GA and saw this band numerous times in Athens home of UGA! ( Go Dawgs). Went downtown Macon ,GA one night and the B- 52's threw a free street concert ! OMG!!!! Also in Macon ( Little Richards hometown) L. Richard rented all the city buses to help people get to his show and take them home.... yep. I went and had a BLAST!!!
The B52s are amazing. SO many great tunes for you to discover.
Ohhhh nooo. When he said skateboard I lost it. I love to see you both together! Half's a handsome slayer, but damn Jai! DAMN!
The vibe in this video is so '60's I should know I was there
One of my favorite bands. Their song ‘Give Me Back My Man’ is my favorite.
Did you know that the part where she says “TIN ROOF RUSTED” is an improv. When they were trying to come up with the lyrics It was the first thing that she blurted out and they decided it worked.🤔🎧🇨🇦🎖🧏🏻♀️😅
That song will Wake you UP! LOL Brings back some good memories. So much fun.
How could anyone not luv the Love Shack, premiere party song
🎉💕😎✌️🍹
Play this whenever you feel sluggish. Instant cure! Brings out the loco in me. God bless.
This is the song we always put on at parties when you wanted to get everybody moving!
6:00 yes! You can't hear this and not groove ♥ ♥ ♥ 🕺🏼 🕺🏼 🕺🏼
Love it, love it, love it. You guys are awesome and makes us feel great. This is what life's all about. Have fun and enjoy the ride. 🇺🇲
Rick Moranis - Little Shop of Horrors "Feed meeee Seymour"
Great band...and fun and talent!...Nice reaction!
😍 Some B-52's Love Shack 😍🔥
Rock Lobster! Saw them live in 82 at the US festival! They stole the show that night!
I was Lmao with the clowns 🤡 coming out of the car mention and the reaction 😂😂😂

Always loved this song! Love Shack, Baby! Wanna dance!
#HangOverGang #HOG4EVER
😎Much love from FLORIDA
OMG! I love ❤ Jai's hair in this video. She really can pull off so many different looks. Beautiful Jaii.
Such a fun song. Laying in bed watching this, 11pm, singing along and having fun with you guys. So much for being sleepy! Lol
This is my Karaoke go-to song. Won numerous 100 dollar first place prizes in contests with this one lol
Me too.
The old guy dancing is Ahmet Ertegun, president of Atlantic Records and all-around groovy guy.
Little shop of Horrors. That movie. I come here to smile, laugh and have a good time. This is why I love you guys.
Saw them in concert 4 years ago they were great
That little " um?..." look after she said tin roof rusted🤣 Then right back into it😆 You could probably hear me laughing all the way from Wisconsin❤
That's not a car , that's a bus,, that shit made my day,, I'm going to start to tell people, if you are having a bad day, watch half and jai,, keep up the great job
This is played at pretty much every wedding I’ve been to the past 20 years 🤣
Great reaction guys!
You can't help but groove with this song. Great choice!
TIIIIIIIIINNNNNN ROOF!!! RUSTED!!!!!!!! Great react here. Glad you had some fun n laughs n enjoyed it.
Yoo love you two doing well on your channels to and this is a great 80s sings I remember cool song loved both ya reactions 😍😍
Thank you Scotty
Always enjoy y'all reactions 💗 from Louisiana
He says "Chrysler" is as big as a whale. Great band from the 80's.
Oooh, THAT's where that, "Tin roof! Rusted!" thing is from lol. I never knew.
No idea what was meant by it, but it was funny as hell!
I put two kids bikes and two adult bikes in the trunk of my 70 Newport and closed the trunk. Yes we did have hideouts.
Half & Jai, great to see y’all!! Both of you Brighten my Day ❤️❤️❤️
You guys are a lot of fun. The B-52s are perfect for fun-loving folk like you 😃 I bet you'll love their other whacky hit "Roam". Check it out! 😀
There was a little place in FT. Worth TX called the Love Shake... It was a real cool place.
Just got into these reaction videos and have subbed to several channels but yall have the best energy. It's a real joy to watch
The natural hair looks Flamin Hot you look so cute that way!
Great reaction guys just found your channel and subscribed. Will definitely check out some of your other videos and see if theres some other quality songs youve happened to reacted to and uploaded. Wish you all the best. Keep enjoying and exploring music. Have a good one.
This song is awesome. It really is. Holy Crap, can't do anything but have fun listening to this song.
Thanks guys! It’s never a party without it (at least nit in the 80s).
I had a 1971 eldorado convertible Cadillac. It was so enormous big bench front seats and a huge bench back seat. When I’d pull up to a stop light and a Toyota Corolla was next to me, they’d look at my car, I’d look at them and ask if they wanted to put their car in the backseat and go for a ride. We’d all laugh.
Bought the cassette of Cosmic Thing the day it dropped, was a big B-52s fan. Went to a local spot for car parties later that night and we cranked the cassette up and got our blaze on. 2 minutes into about 9 or 10 of us hearing Love Shack each for the first time we all knew...this song is gonna be a BIG hit for them. We weren't wrong. Happy days.
Seeing you two vibe to this song made my day! Love your good vibes guys!
Wonder if you caught Ru Paul in this video as well! LOL Great times back in the day, B-52s were always a party!
AND on my birthday:) Sweet dancing memories
The champs are back being great as always dope reaction fam🔥🎶🔥
One of my favorite songs ever
The movie with the flytrap plant was "Little Shop of Horror."
My brother is six years younger than me. He went to college in the late eighties and came back with cassettes of the B-52s and the Beasty Boys. I farm, so I had never been exposed to them. Later in the early nineties, I got hooked on Friday Night Videos! There was so much creativity in videos back then! Just about the time I had fallen asleep in my chair they would put on “Pump Up The Jam” and it would wake me up! I didn’t do the dance, but I would get up and go to bed! 😆
Brilliant song and still sounds as fresh as a daisy!
It was an absolute thrill to watch ya'll!!,..just loved it,..you know it would be cool if you could watch tv,..and be able.to jump into the video your watching,..if that was possible, ya'll so could've jumped in on this,.you were keeping the beat, keeping the timing,.and the vibe,..the party vibe,..awesome,..you can't help but start jumping and grooving when this comes on,..its an absolute party groove,..and yess someone else mentioned Little Shop of Horrors,..the one with Rick Moranis is actually a remake,..the original was done in 1960,.. and it was in black and white,..and it was also on Broadway for a long running stint,..I think maybe Moranis was in the stage version too,..not sure,..but the singers were always the ones you remember, the kinda Supremes like singer girl group,..they really harmonized,..and not sure they too may have been in the stage version,..thats the I guess you could say hook,..gimmick with this group,..the whole behive,..big hair,..fantastic 50's, 60's style clothes,..did you see the redhead's gorgeous jump suit,..reminded you of LSH,..but for me first time I saw them back in the 80's,..MTV,..I thought about all those old shows I watched in the 60's, 70's,.Rowan & Martin's Laugh In,
Goldie Hawn dancing in a cage with psychedelic lights, psychedelic clothes,.
huge flashy colored drop earrings,..movies like In Like Flint, with James Coburn,..Matt Helm,. With Dean Martin,.kinda an American version,..answer to the James Bond movies,..always had girls wearing totally in style for the era, and gorgeous, but outlandish outfits,..there's also a crazy movie The Party, with mr. Pink Panther himself Peter Sellers,..had wild outfits in there, and wild party music like this,..from the 60's,..do check it out,..very funny,..and do keep checking out B 52's,..also The Ramones,..J. Geils Band,..lot of bands back then seem like if they went back in time to the 60's,..they would so fit right in,..Godspeed, Peace ✌
Loved it....Thank You! The B 52's are ALWAYS fun. And so are you two!!
Yesssss!!! The B52s are a whole vibe! Rock Lobster will have you shook Jai!!❤️🔥☮️
In the event nobody mentioned it, RuPaul is the one in the pink satin outfit with the big hair. Yay!!
"Jumped in my Chrysler and it's big as a whale" and they were back in the day! 😀
In the end when they say,”you are what? tin roof rusted!”. This is an old school way of saying she is pregnant.
The car in the video is a 1965 chrysler 300 convertible, quite literally a land yacht at 18 feet long and 4400 pounds
I believe the movie you are thinking of is "Little Shop of Horrors".
Soooooo...I was dancing with yall! LOL..this is my go to song when i am feeling like crap,so much fun, and you two always make me laugh..Proud to part of the Goof Troup :))))))
Have you seen the B52's there so fun in concert it gets up up and having a blast. I've seen them as well as Devo another very fun band
Your hair looks so cute Jai
They were the BEST party/dance around band back in the day.
EVERYONE LOVED THIS SONG. And still do . So funky and fun. We would all dance around singing this song.
Hey! Rupaul was dancing in there. Also he calls it his car and then he calls it his "Chrysler" (as in Chrysler-Buick)
Green shack leads you to the Love shack baby 💚😂😂💚👍👍
65 Chrysler Imperial had one but not a convertible. And yes it's a huge land yacht
Rupauls first ever appearance in anything was this video. You can see him a few times, really tall with a Afro wig on.
Tin roof rusted!!... best line ever
He actually says, "I got me a Chrysler, it sits about 20, so hurry up and bring your jukebox money ." I remember getting my dance ON to this club classic!
Little Shop of Horrors.Way too much fun at the Love Shack.
Good vibes!
"Tiiiin roof! Rusted." Cindy Wilson in action. The group's original guitarist was her brother, Ricky who unfortunately passed after the group's first few albums (cancer).
