Unfortunately Ormus is kinda suboptimal for Light sorcs. You barely win any damage, because you lose on +skills to Lightning Mastery (which is equivalent to +24% lightning dmg). And you lose a lot of stats/resists/mf compared to other options. It is a beautiful roll indeed, but I personally wouldn't use it!

The runs were offline but on player setting 1 so the drops are the same as they would be online. It’s easier to find him offline though since the map is saved, so yes it would be harder.
Couple questions. ( havent watched the full video yet, myabe you answer these questions later in the video) were you playing on player 7-8 difficulty? Approximately how many hours did it take you to complete 1000 runs?
No problem! Players 1 setting. Total just over 16 hours. Runs took over a minute when starting, but after upgrades and “getting into it” runs only took 40-45 seconds at the end.
@@zarfen cool info :) I would suggest to keep one full run in a video like this, so we get to know how much time is needed for 1000 runs. Compiling this in one big video was heavy work I guess. Thx for the video.
7:40 my first shako dropped in chaos sanc and it was ETH. Went from excitement to unsure feeling real quick. Imagine my face when I got ANOTHER shako just 2 runs after that
Against mephisto I just want more damage from Ice Blast. If I were running areas like Ancient Tunnels I could agree on having Glacial on left click though!
Same. I haven’t done that many but I haven’t seen it in my runs or other RUclips highlight videos before this. It wasn’t even on my list of things I wished for so it was quite the surprise
@@diegohernanpagano9306 Use d2jsp you nub. Turn chipped diamonds into high runes. MFing for items and trading them is far superior to looking for runes
The best way to get loot is to do cow runs. Collect gems and trade 40 pgems for an ist. Collect runeword bases for pul-ist or beyond if theyre superior. Ive been playing D2R for 2 months and already have a fully geared bone necro (Enigma, shako, 9 skillers, 2 soj hoto etc) fully geared barb (2 griefs, fort, etc) fully geared dragondin with 2x dragin HOJ flick flame, and MF sorc with infinity merc. Also you can flip runes very easy. Once i traded up to a Lo i just trade Lo for Sur Ist, then trade Sur for Lo Ohm, and repeat. It takes maybe 20 minutes for someone to bite on the trade game so i just leave the game open while i do other shit. But in short trading is the best way to gear your characters since MFing can be inconsistent
Is that on ladder or regular? I play on HC non-ladder and it seems pretty dead - people only play ladder in HC. So I'm curious if it's the same way for softcore.
On my melee characters I'd do a bunch of mephisto runs in normal to try for sigons belt, boots, and gloves. Ias, res, fr/w, magic find, life leach. Just all the best things I wanted for a melee char. Definitely wasn't necessary and I didn't always stick it out to get all 3. I also didn't know about runewords back then, solo offline single player and didn't think to look up any kind of guides or help back then.
I like stopping for a few mf runs during questing with melee characters too. Maybe it’s not always necessary but it sure makes playing through the game more enjoyable. Runewords and runes definitely helped melee characters a lot in the weapon department though even in early game
Thank you! :) I’m afraid I don’t know, and since I took a break to level up in the Ancient Tunnels after 250 runs to wear arachnid mesh, it’s hard to figure out afterwards.
Awesome vid! I'd love to farm him on Hell, but have gear similar to yours and two things are destroying my runs: Low mana for teleporting, and being insta-gibbed when you teleport into a bad spot. How did you manage the travel portion of the 1000 runs?
Thank you! I did these runs on offline single player so the map is the same every run, which helps a lot with travel distance. I still had to drink several mana potions per run, so every few runs I stopped by Ormus on the way to the WP and restocked on mana potions. Teleporting into dangerous enemies is a pain especially with low Faster Cast Rate. A tip is to try and stick close to walls and not teleport blindly into the middle of an unknown room, monsters are usually spawning away from the walls. But before I got decent gear I had to abandon some runs because the council bosses got me and then camped by body. I just didn’t show the failures in the video 😜
@@zarfen Thanks for the epic fast reply. That helps a lot knowing that there IS a struggle with this until better gear is found. Okay, I'll get back to it!
Mephisto still trolling in death 20 years later with that eth Shako. Reminds me of the Magic Gilded Shield he dropped for me that had 100 durability in late July (1.14d Non-Resurrected, mind).
I don't know why besides the fact that I build my characters with the best gear pretty fast, but I have insane luck compared to most people with Diablo 2. I got on last night, made a public game (which no one joined) and on game 2, I found a Jah at Terrorized Travincal with my Nova sorc. The day before that, I found a BK ring at TZ Travincal game number 4.
I don’t usually since when I’m at Meph I just want to have as fast runs as possible. I got a few comments about finding HRs from it so I understand that people do open it
You should make a dedicated Early MF guide like this, showing guranteed useable gear and then results. Although i would make alterations to the starting conditions by using a lore helmet which is like your circlet but guranteed useable, and add a note that the shield could be upgraded by a spirit monarch, given a monarch is acquired.
A guide to starter gear for MFing in hell is on my list of videos I want to make, but at this rate the list is growing faster than I have time to make videos so IDK when I’ll do it 😅
If I can’t handle nightmare, it’s usually about levels rather than gear in my experience, and then I stay in normal and do some Baal runs or just mess around in act 5. If you need a better weapon as a melee character, look into some low-mid lvl rune words or maybe grind normal mephisto If I can’t handle hell due to gear, running nm mephisto is a great idea and he can even drop some great end game items even in nm.
Does Schaefer's have any good use/market value for any good build? This item is incredibly hard to find and feels great to be found yet does it have any use?
It’s a great weapon and on something like a fanaticism zealot it can do serious work with the static proc. The problem is that ‘Grief’ is too good so awesome uniques like Schaefer’s will never be the best for any build or hold high trade value. Not sure about market value though tbh, I play single player for now 🙂 I will personally try this one out on a frenzy barbarian that I’m currently leveling. It’s the best melee weapon I have right now (no Lo runes yet) and I want to find a use for it.
Thanks for the nice comment! I hope to farm some mini-bosses like Nihlatak and the council/trav with him, so unless he’s absolutely terrible I’ll try and make a video of that! 🙂
Schaefer's back in original D2 was a holy grail item in 1.08 due to its superior stats, but in 1.09 it was nerfed, and other arguably superior items were introduced (like Stormlash). But the old 1.08 Schaefer's were still in existence, so those were trading at an even Godlier price, usually considered one of the most prized possession among traders and collectors. It was among the many collector's items along with many of the bugged rare and white items (like wizard spike ring).
About 16 hours, maybe a little more. Runs were much faster at the end compared to the beginning though so it depends on your run times (mostly gear) :)
Thank you! Yes, players 1 for 98% of the runs. I did short test with other settings early on but I didn’t think it was worth the slower runs(very noticeable)
@@KnowerofThings mephisto is pretty well rounded, and has high resists - no glaring weakness. Cold sorc is good because of cold mastery taking away resistances from enemies. Blizzard or meteor are popular starter builds for mephisto since you can cheese him over the moat like I do in the video
@@zarfen that is impressive. That comes to ~ 62 runs / hour, or just slightly longer than ~ 1 run / minute. If it took much longer you wouldn't need a run counter, you'd need a run calendar.
@@Onering80 haha yeah :D Runs were well over a minute in the beginning, but later on it was under a minute per run when I had some decent gear. That's one reason I haven't done a video of a 1000 Diablo or Baal runs. That would take me like 40++ hours just to do the runs 😅
@@zarfen That is why I find the real time so interesting. As a viewer we only see a condensed compilation of highlights; 16 hours of hard work and dedication boiled down to a brief whisper of time. It is easy to lose perspective as a viewer and not recognize, or realize, what all goes into the creation of one of these videos.
Good eye! It’s “the peasant crown”. I cut that drop from the video, but it has +1 skills and faster run/walk which was nice since I ran through act 3 ever run. I don’t think I used it for very long though because iirc I found a random +2 sorc skills circlet afterwards
Yes! It took a little over 16 hours of playtime(including save & exit and loading screens etc). Runs were significantly faster towards the end compared to the first runs so it really depends on your gear. I will try to be more clear about this in videos in the future since many people asked this. Thank you so much!
One of the tricks is to equip a fast cast set for tping into meph, and then switch to your MF set just for the kill. If you don't want to bother with it you could at least do it with the weapon, you only need the MF when landing the killing blow to receive benefit from it.
@@zxbc1 that’s what I did for the first almost 500 runs. FCR and +skills on main then swap to alibaba and ‘rhyme’ for the kill. Then after the first occy dropped I didn’t bother with an mf switch anymore to make runs more auto-pilot 😂
I've been running meph looking for shako myself but no luck yet. I did happen to find a Lo rune yesterday though so that makes up for a bit. But ofc, I sold the 4socket dusk shroud I need to make fortitude SMH.

The runs were offline but on player setting 1 so the drops are the same as they would be online. It’s easier to find him offline though since the map is saved, so yes it would be harder.
the swirling crystal set piece can be found in nightmare terror zone as well
Poison rainbow gem is actually worth a ton nowadays with the plague zons and poison pallys out there.
I didn’t know, thanks for sharing!
Couple questions. ( havent watched the full video yet, myabe you answer these questions later in the video)
were you playing on player 7-8 difficulty?
Approximately how many hours did it take you to complete 1000 runs?
No problem! Players 1 setting. Total just over 16 hours. Runs took over a minute when starting, but after upgrades and “getting into it” runs only took 40-45 seconds at the end.
Thank you
No problems! Thank you for watching :)
@@zarfen cool info :)
I would suggest to keep one full run in a video like this, so we get to know how much time is needed for 1000 runs.
Compiling this in one big video was heavy work I guess.
Thx for the video.
7:40 my first shako dropped in chaos sanc and it was ETH. Went from excitement to unsure feeling real quick.
Imagine my face when I got ANOTHER shako just 2 runs after that
Makes me both happy and sad to hear people have similar stories. Crazy to get another one just 2 runs later though!
same for me, but both was eth :D
@@wjmba Oh no! That's so unlikely, absolutely BRUTAL 💀
Can you add a socket to the ethereal shako and use an um rune to make it invulnerable ?
glacial spike is better as a left click, it's utility in freezing mobs of enemies is well worth it
Against mephisto I just want more damage from Ice Blast. If I were running areas like Ancient Tunnels I could agree on having Glacial on left click though!
very charming video, well made
Thank you so much for the kind comment!
Done tens of thousands of Mephisto runs and I can never remember him dropping a rune worth grabbing.
Same. I haven’t done that many but I haven’t seen it in my runs or other RUclips highlight videos before this. It wasn’t even on my list of things I wished for so it was quite the surprise
if you want runes do the council next to mephisto, i found lot of sur and lo runes there... or do cows for jah/ber runes...
@@diegohernanpagano9306 IMO best to ignore runes and just farm Baal and Chaos if you can. If your gear is too crappy just farm meph/pindle
@@h.a.l.3980 endgame is runes bro, you dont want gear…
Nice video brings back good memories
I got my first nokuzan somewhere in normal and didn't have to consider fire resist from there on, until I hit hell
Runewords and runes definitely helped melee characters a lot in the weapon department though even in early game
felt the pain of that shako, I dropped a 50mf war travs last season, ETH.
But its ok.... for sors. You dont get so much hits. Till its gone - you might find another one. I would use the Eth till it drains out :P
Oh no! That’s way more painful! Did you get some use of them or what happened? That has to be one of the worst feelings in D2 💀
Mephisto to hero "Nephalem I have come to bargain"
Very cool video.
If you don't mind me asking, how many levels did 1000 Mephistos give you?
Thank you! :)
I’m afraid I don’t know, and since I took a break to level up in the Ancient Tunnels after 250 runs to wear arachnid mesh, it’s hard to figure out afterwards.
One thing is for sure. . . . .
Mephisto is also the Lord of Ethereal Armor & Jewelry 😂🤣
What an unexpected fun grind fest of a video
Haha he sure is! 😅
I’m glad you enjoyed it!
@@adamcloud9289 no problem! A few upgrades early on can make a BIG difference, so hopefully it’ll get easier soon. Good luck!
That ormus drop must have been an instant booner

Did you not pickup those rare orbs ?? Those could be gg
Mephisto still trolling in death 20 years later with that eth Shako. Reminds me of the Magic Gilded Shield he dropped for me that had 100 durability in late July (1.14d Non-Resurrected, mind).
His laugh will echo through eternity
I don't know why besides the fact that I build my characters with the best gear pretty fast, but I have insane luck compared to most people with Diablo 2.
I got on last night, made a public game (which no one joined) and on game 2, I found a Jah at Terrorized Travincal with my Nova sorc. The day before that, I found a BK ring at TZ Travincal game number 4.
Did you ever open the chest in the back? Got a Ber rune from it once.
A guide to starter gear for MFing in hell is on my list of videos I want to make, but at this rate the list is growing faster than I have time to make videos so IDK when I’ll do it 😅
Are there any bosses most worth running while preparing for Nightmare or Hell difficulties?
If I can’t handle nightmare, it’s usually about levels rather than gear in my experience, and then I stay in normal and do some Baal runs or just mess around in act 5. If you need a better weapon as a melee character, look into some low-mid lvl rune words or maybe grind normal mephisto
If I can’t handle hell due to gear, running nm mephisto is a great idea and he can even drop some great end game items even in nm.
Found Maras and Griffons eye off terrorized Andarial yesterday. Within 20 runs of eachother. RNG gods were on my side.
Nice!
This looks so fun to play
is that sarcasm?
@@BousBiggestFan Im wondering that too 😄
Are you playing single player? Also what player setting do you use?
Single player with default setting (players 1)
@zarfen whoa some pretty great drops, I guess volume is key on players 1. That what I play online right now most of the time and my luck is horrible.
Not sure about market value though tbh, I play single player for now 🙂
I will personally try this one out on a frenzy barbarian that I’m currently leveling. It’s the best melee weapon I have right now (no Lo runes yet) and I want to find a use for it.
@@zarfen thanks for extensive answear :) I hope you make a video with your barb when ready - cant wait to see it! :)
Do you know how long did it take you to complete the 1000 runs?
About 16 hours, maybe a little more. Runs were much faster at the end compared to the beginning though so it depends on your run times (mostly gear) :)
Didnt you open the super chest always? dropt some hrs in the past for me
I didn’t because I wanted to save time so this project wouldn’t take too long. Next time I go back to meph I probably will though!
How much hours did you take to complete this 1000 runs?
Its been a while but IIRC 16 hours. But there was a big difference between run speed on the first runs and after I got some good gear
Another slot machine enjoyer
If they ever make a loot-themed a lot machine I’m in trouble
my first and only ever ber rune drop happened to drop off mephisto. kinda wild
Congratulations,nice items.
Thanks! I’m quite happy with the overall loot haul
Did you do these runs with /players 8 or just1?
This was players 1. I tried higher settings for a few runs, but it added too much time to be worth it for me.
nobody:
zarf: *teleports behind mephisto 1000 times* "nothing personnel, demon scum*
nice video ! was it player 1?
Thank you! Yes, players 1 for 98% of the runs. I did short test with other settings early on but I didn’t think it was worth the slower runs(very noticeable)
@@zarfen thanks you got some really good drops what is the boss weak to? fire or ice?
@@KnowerofThings mephisto is pretty well rounded, and has high resists - no glaring weakness. Cold sorc is good because of cold mastery taking away resistances from enemies. Blizzard or meteor are popular starter builds for mephisto since you can cheese him over the moat like I do in the video
Sorry, I couldn't find it: was it nightmare or hell difficulty?
Hell difficulty!

1000 runs sounds like a lot. I am sure it is a lot. approximately how many hours, days, or weeks does it take to do 1k runs?
It is, but if you optimize your runs a bit it’s not too bad.
This took a little over 16 hours of playtime, spread out over a couple of weeks.
@@zarfen that is impressive. That comes to ~ 62 runs / hour, or just slightly longer than ~ 1 run / minute.
If it took much longer you wouldn't need a run counter, you'd need a run calendar.
@@Onering80 haha yeah :D
Runs were well over a minute in the beginning, but later on it was under a minute per run when I had some decent gear.
I was really hoping that you'd get a SOJ
Me too :(
What was the helm you were wearing at @4:45?
Good eye! It’s “the peasant crown”. I cut that drop from the video, but it has +1 skills and faster run/walk which was nice since I ran through act 3 ever run. I don’t think I used it for very long though because iirc I found a random +2 sorc skills circlet afterwards
Do you have a time estimate for the 1000 runs? That would be very useful for viewers. Great video, keep it up!
It’s really rough looking for specific items in d2. I hope you find it soon, but a Lo rune is not a bad consolation price in the meantime 😄
@@zarfen I traded a gul for a 4os ancient armor cuz I got sick of looking. went to make the fortitude and realized it was an io rune.... oof
Big OOF! Sorry about that :( I think we all have made that mistake sometime
Is there a reason you are not taking the portal to A4. I always thought that was the faster way
Yes! It is faster in theory! But my pc isn’t the best so when I timed it it was actually slower for me due to the long load times between acts, so I ran through act 3 for these runs.
I have just one question... how long did these 1000 runs took you?
Just over 16 hours of playing time.
