- From the eighteenth century onwards, many European and American leaders saw the Prophet Muhammad as a symbol of justice and law and an anticlerical Hero. Among them were Thomas Jefferson, Napoleon, and Edward Gibbon.
In this video, John Tolan, professor of history at the University of Nantes in France, shows that while many Europeans, from the Middle Ages to today, had a negative, polemical perception of Muhammad, others looked on him with fascination and admiration. The video is based on his recent book, Faces of the Prophet: A History of Western Portrayals of Muhammad.

3. Prostration = The ultimate way to submit to your Creator.
4. Muslims Prostrate by placing their heads on the ground to worship God.
So how did Jesus and all the other Prophets prayed to their Lord in the Bible? Let’s take a look...

6 "Ezra praised the Lord, the great God; and all the people lifted their hands and responded, “Amen! Amen!” Then they bowed down and worshiped the Lord with their faces to the ground."

11 "All the angels were standing around the throne and around the elders and the four living creatures. They fell down on their faces before the throne and worshiped God."
Muslims are just continuing what all the previous Prophets and Messengers in the scriptures did by submitting to Allah only.
May Allah continue to have MERCY us, continue to PROTECT us, continue to FORGIVE us, continue to GUIDE us, and continue to BLESS us.
I am proud to say that I am from a French lineage, with a distant link to Napoleon Bonaparte. While Bonaparte may be known for his military conquests, what is less well-known is his admiration for the Prophet Mohammed (peace be upon him) and his respect for the Muslim faith. As a Muslim myself, it gives me great pride to know that my ancestor saw the beauty and value of Islam.
Today, I strive to live my life according to the principles of Islam, which emphasize compassion, justice, and the pursuit of knowledge. As a member of the Muslim community, I feel a deep connection to the legacy of the Prophet Mohammed and the contributions of Muslim scholars and thinkers throughout history. I am grateful for the opportunity to honor my heritage and live out my faith in a world that is ever-changing but always guided by the teachings of the Quran and the examples of the Prophet Mohammed peace and blessings be upon him.

My people (European), came to muslim lands to learn, algebra, trigonometry and chemistry as well as major advances in medicine, astronomy, engineering, agriculture and so on, while the Muslims implemented Shari'ah.
When they went to their respective countries, they could not teach what they have learned.
It took centuries for my people to develop and be civilisied.
They never taught us these things in school, becouse of jealousy and hatred towards the Muslims, they have to hide these things. Since I became aware of my heritage as a youth, I would always scratch my head when entering a book store and seeing books on Islam on shelves covering "Eastern Religions". The truth is that Islam is integral to "the West" and has always been. The Qur'an mentions Moses and the Children Of Israel more than others which precisely solidifies this common heritage. I look forward to reading your book, Professor Tolan and my heartfelt thanks to you and the Emir-Stein Center for this video.
Islam is not Eastern at all, people conflate Muslims as if they are a race such as indians with Hinduism.
What does Musa (AS) and Bani Israel have to do with the West? They were from the Middle East Iraq Egypt Palestine etc the entire Abrahamic tradition is Eastern it was never Western no amount of fake white Jesus Idols could change this fact either

I believed they read Al Quran, but thought it was written by Muhammad S.A.W, instead of God himself.

You should take him as a role model but you can't be another prophet Mohammed pbuh because he is one and only. He is not only a person but a prophet of God his decision are inspired by God. His spiritual aspect are unmatched no one would ever reach the knowledge of this aspect of his life.
Muhammad is a role model, meaning someone you or any other person should replicate (qudwatun hasanah)

I recommend a translation by a female scholar called Sublime Quran. Some of the older standard translations have been perverted by language. Maybe the biggest example is a passage on marital harmony where Muhammad pbuh said that if you have an argument that isn't resolved, to take a break from each other and think loving thoughts about each other before reuniting. Some white dude changed it to "as a last resort, beat your wife". I don't know about other countries but my husband is a Pakistani Muslim and in Pakistan most of the men are sweet, thoughtful, and don't want to offend their wives because they fear a negative account on the day of judgement. Muhammad pbuh was born at a time when Saudi men buried female babies alive. He declared that daughters are a blessing from God in this life and whoever raises girls with love and respect will be rewarded in the next life. I see it as a continuation of the ministry of Jesus/Isa, who also elevated the status of women. My husband would love it if I converted but there's no compulsion in Islam. TBH, I don't have the discipline to practice Islam properly but I love the emphasis on good intentions. Pardon the long comment, it's fascinating to me because there are so many amazing things about Islam and I feel like I have to highlight them to fight the widespread misunderstanding and bigotry against Islam. In my experience, any religion based on Love and Truth will lead us to Love and Truth.

Rabbi Reuven Firestone said that the reason there is a similarity between Islam and Judaism is because of the prophet Abraham (peace be upon him).
Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him) taught monotheism to both of his children prophet Ismael and Prophet Ishaq (peace be upon them).
According to Islamic sources (Hadith Literature), prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him) with his son prophet Ismael (peace be upon him) built the Kaaba in the city of Makkah and laid the foundation of monotheism in Makkah.
From the year (2000BCE to 100AD approx) the descendants of prophet Ismael (peace be upon him) began to spread throughout the Arabian peninsula and remained following the teachings of prophet Ibrahim and prophet Ismael (peace be upon them).
in the year (100AD approx) there was an Arab by the name of "Amr bin Luhay" who got inspired by Levant people and introduced idol worship in the city of Makkah and polluted the Kaaba which was dedicated to monotheism.
in the year 610AD God almighty chose Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) to revive the teachings of monotheism taught by Prophet Ibrahim and Prophet Ismael (peace be upon them).
One last point is that Muhammad (peace be upon him) did not know to read or write. There was no library or university throughout the Arabian Peninsula. That's why we believe God almighty taught the stories of Jewish prophets to Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) through revelation.

Michael Hart said that his choice was Muhammad to lead the list of the World's most influential persons; as he was the only man in history, who was supremely successful on both religious and secular levels.
George Bernard Shaw said, that if a man like Muhammad were to tool the dictatorship or rule of the modern world, he would succeed in solving it's problems, that would bring it much needed peace and happiness.
And Castle Wheatley said, that in a little more than a year, Muhammad (peace be upon him) was aqtually the spiritual, nominal, and temporal ruler of Medina with his hand on the lever, which was to shake the World.

An illiterate orphan brought up in the harsh deserts of Arabia transformed a backward society into a great civilisation.

Muhammad was the only leader who had realised his vision in his lifetime. He was born as an orphan in Mecca , raised in Mecca; his followers were killed, he was punished, persecuted and driven out of Mecca. But after 23 years, Allah/God allowed him to return to Mecca, as a victor, as a conqueror. But when he came back, he gave amnesty to everyone. Then Muhammad spread his message. He spread Islam throughout the Peninsula of Arabia, so that Islam became established as a state, as a government. He was now the Ruler, but he was still eating and drinking and dressing the same way, as he had been doing before. The messenger (peace be upon him) was just and fair. He didn't favour his family and friends over others, in distribution or in judgement, like the kings, presidents, or judges of today do, or like those who have done it throughout history.
This was a man in this world who was always thinking of the hereafter, because Allah said to him the ayat' al aakhiratu khairuwn wa abbka'
The hereafter is better for you and everyone else, than what is present. His message was to call humanity to the worshipping of the creator and to destroy all kinds of injustice in the earth, and to establish a character, a paradym of human conduct, for the human beings to follow. And if one reads the Qur'an you will see that message comes through, on every single page.This is what sets Muhammad (peace be upon him) above any other ruler or any other prophet.
The prophet Muhammad, never in his life, did he lift his hand to hit any human being; not a servant, not a wife, not a friend, nor an enemy, except when the enemy was opposing Allah and opposing the message. When the companions of Muhammad were to look for him on the battlefield, they said by God, we found him in the middle of the enemies fighting, and we used to seek protection from his person, we used to hide behind the prophet on the battlefield. He was such a warrior and a statesman on the battlefield, commanding and fighting for the way of Allah/God the mighty
But once he was off the battlefield, his eyes were downcast, and he was
speaking softly, and he was gentle, and he was warm, and he was sacred,
and he was soft and caring and crying.

The prophet Muhammad would also be doing a course on the days feeding the poor, visiting the sick, discharging the army, acting as a statesman, acting as an arbitor, talking to the people, addressing the women, giving out zakat, sewing his clothes, washing his house, shopping for the food, doing all the things, that you and I do. And at night, standing in prayer 4, 5 hours a time, and in the day, fighting the battles, discharging the armies, giving the rulings, explaining the Qur'an, and instructing the people in behaviour. How could a man do all of that, and stand 4, 5 hours in prayer at night? What kind of a human being can that be? He was a messenger, he was a prophet. This was a man with a message.
Muhammad (peace be upon him) was that unlettered prophet, the final prophet; who was sent as a mercy to Mankind. He was the best example to follow. He was sent to all of Humanity and the Jinns.
The prophet Muhammad was victorious over all the systems, and he was created on an exalted standard.
There is not a person in the whole of history, that could compare with Muhammad, (peace be upon him) the final prophet of God.

Will share. As a Muslim, it's kinda expected for me to search about anything of foreign origin that attests to his legacy peace be upon him, so it's weird how I never stumbled on this. I guess the search for recognition by modern figures is useless as most if not all do not uphold basic principles and dignity, it's very interesting how even with less material, notable people from the 19th century see Muhammad as an admirable leader. Not that it matters in the long run, almost everyone starts to go against their true opinions and beilefs when a dilemma arises making their unbiased opinion worthless.
