Nice video, nice shots, and props for giving this style of racing a shot.
Rally photography is an awesome time! Not much of an opportunity to nail the shot, so being prepared is key.
I like to use a shutter speed of 1/250 and adjust based on local conditions. It allows for the car to be reasonably crisp and have a bit of blur on the wheels. In my mind it helps to tell the story of the speed and challenge that the teams are facing.
Try shooting some night stages sometime! Use care with flash and try to aim from the “B” pillar or behind to help keep from blinding the team as much.
We like to get shots of the 0 cars, and heavy sweeps. These usually get shared with the organizers so they can use them for whatever their imagination can cook up.
Volunteering at a marshal point, flying finish, or stage start is usually a good bet to get a decent spot. We usually prefer to be "free range photographers". Your high viz vest and common sense are key items here. A handheld HAM radio is useful to listen to the rallynet to keep informed of what’s going on and for emegency use...there isn't always cell reception.
The rally community is friendly and are always happy to see people return!

I liked the video a lot. Have you had a chance to try this type of photography using the Sony a7rV? I take this type of photos as a hobby and I am thinking of buying one of these two cameras, I like the resolution of the a7rv but I don't know if there is a real difference in focus. Have you lost many photos because they were not in focus? Thank you!

Great shots! It doesn’t look like many other people are at the locations you were shooting from, did you have to get a press pass to get into those areas?
I’m in the U.S. and am going to attempt to photograph the Sno Drift winter race, and am currently pondering on whether I should get a press pass or not to get good shots. This is my first time going to a race.

Glad you enjoyed the video! However, this is far from spray and pray, it's a fast paced environment, cars are traveling at 60mph on dirt. I'm tracking the subject throughout the frame and capturing every moment. Now you might be asking why?
Well when I get back to editing, yes I have thousands of photos. But I also keep all the good ones.
In this shooting setting and sceniro it's a case of shoot and rapid fire, tracking the subjects perfectly.
If I was doing this shooting methodology with somthing like street photography I would be in agreement with you, but this is sports, it's a fast paced environment. Clearly you haven't had enough experience in this field, if you did you wouldn't make a statement like that.
      Hope that clear things up!
