Texas barbecue restaurant owner explains why he believes nearby cafe stole his equipment

- The Fort Worth barbecue joint Panther City is accusing another restaurant of involvement in the theft of a $30,000 mobile barbecue pit trailer earlier in 2024, alleging the owner of DayBreak Cafe appears aware his property is being used as a transit point for stolen goods.
"It's a disgusting feeling to know that another neighboring business is involved in a theft from us," said Panther City co-owner Chris Magallanes. "I want to see people go to jail."
DayBreak's owner denies the accusation and told WFAA Tuesday he doesn't know who brought Panther City's trailer to the vacant lot next to his café. A Fort Worth Police spokesperson said the department's investigation is ongoing; no charges have been filed.
The fight began on New Year's Day when Magallanes learned someone stole the 8,000-pound trailer, which he found in a vacant lot next to the cafe using GPS trackers. Surveillance video showed a person in a white van towing away the trailer.
But Magallanes was not content to recover his stolen property.
"It's personal," he explained. "Somebody has to pay for this."
He spent weeks surveilling the lot next to DayBreak Cafe and keeping track of the white van, which he said returned multiple times with other trailers, including at least one other reported stolen. He heard from another restaurant, Grease Monkey Burgers in Arlington, which reported a food truck stolen by a similar white van in December.
"I can't just sit by and let that happen," Magallanes said.

Business owner robbed of $30000 equipment, he tracks it down and performs a sting operation himself. Cops are giving tickets for speeding
Exactly! FWPD is corrupt and doesn't care about its citizens. I wldnt be surprised if they're in on it.
Don’t blame the police. The detectives have to do a thorough investigation so that the criminals will fail in court
Cops don’t even give speeding tickets anymore. Only state troopers giving speeding tickets on the toll roads.
They made a stop and seized the van. But they need info to make arrests. Police have been working on it.
They should be dealt with Texas style, with a ghillie suit.
Not to mention illegal searches arresting people for flipping off cops
Fort Worth needs to Hire this man as a detective! He's completely done their job minus the arrests which apparently they aren't gonna bother with. I mean, it's been 27 days now.
Don't mess with Texas. Hahaha
Texas Police show themselves to be cowards again & again, they allowed 21 people to die in Uvalde shooting while they sat with their tails between their legs.
that’s what men do when you threaten their livelyhood.
Tentacles could possibly lead to anybody and any place.
this is how it is in some places. san antonio, same thing. we can't get drug dealers, arsonists, arrested because even if we have video of lots of stuff, no action takes place. the police don't want to arrest someone that the DA won't prosecute here.
Why doesn’t the interviewer go to the restaurant with cameras and ask the owner to explain this. Show the name of business so people may not want to go their and eat.
Could become construed as harrassment without proper evidence, there are proper methods to resolving crime and conflict, the improper routes can lead to innocent people unintentionally incriminating themselves or muddling the truth.
You dont exactly wanna take the law into your own hands, but like this guy , collect and keep as much evidence as possible and only do things that are unambiguously legal and defensible.
@pianoman7753 but that's no fun lol. Plus it would just be an interview right?
@@pianoman7753 *BS. The investigative journalists would simply be doing their jobs. Get a copy of the footage and confront the owner with: ‘So this guy you are receiving potentially stolen items from is the guy you are telling police you don’t know?’*
That’d be a form of pre-trial punishment, which is illegal. There’s always the possibility that the van driver is just trying to ruin his friend’s restaurant’s reputation, and the restaurant owner is too cowardly or too blackmailed to know how to respond. (Unlikely, the two are assuredly in cahoots, but we have *INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY** because it causes fewer innocents to be harmed by courts and mobs)
They did name the restaurant - DayBreak Cafe

Just from this interview, I can tell he is a good man and successful in every facet of his life.
He's not that smart. Clown should had his equipment well secured instead of getting it stolen.
I’m glad the owner got his property back! The “legal” system is a bunch of BS I swear!!
The justice system is a scam on many levels.
doesn't hurt to help yourself and others if you've found a crime, but only the police can arrest and the legal system prosecute, if you find it's corrupt, or just ineffective, then get involved in your city and county politics and do something about it.
AMEN

There's probably a connection to law enforcement. Rather it be a part of a larger operation under investigation or a dirty cop.

its Texas, the police are too busy letting kids get killed.
Well, Texas cops. They have reputation for being less than worthless.

I feel you, couple years ago an employee's "boyfriend" stole bank account info off a payroll check of her's, printed fake checks of our business, and cashed about 30k worth of checks in two days...
Well my wife being a Private Investor and her Step Father being with Homeland Security within 24 hours were able to figure out who it was, where he lived, the fact he was dating 4 or more women and doing this to all of them... local cities and county law enforcement was contacted. He was arrested with fake printed and made out checks for our company and two others. He was released almost immediately, no further charges were made, even though we said we wanted to press charges...
Couldn't persue hiring a lawyer ourselves due to cost, and we are a small business. I guess it wasn't enough money for the cities or counties to care about to protect us.
So sorry that happened. Try taking your case to your State Attorney General, you may have the key to many similar thefts across your State
This guy should release the footage he has on the internet/youtube and as 100% solidly identified, show the suspects names and their movements.
He’s so smart. Not just for all this but for protecting himself. “I didn’t say no names, I didn’t name any businesses” you did not sir and as much as people may push, don’t for now until the business is legally being pursued. Protect yourself and your family.

Had a friend that went to Texas with a group of his friends on a hunting trip. Had thousands in hunting and camping gear in their vehicles. Stopped at a restaurant to eat- came out and all their vehicles and belongings had been stolen while they were eating. I always suspected someone in the restaurant had tipped off the thief and most likely seated them where they could not watch their stuff ( away from windows).

There are the farmers where I live in Arkansas had the same thing happened to their friends who came a couple of weeks ago For a hunting trip and all their stuff got stolen exactly like that out of memphis. They stopped to go eat before they went to the airport.
