Proud of FTC's achievement under Lina Khan, in bringing down prices of grocery, insulin, inhalers, etc. I hope Lina will stay in the job long enough to stop the unlawful big mergers like that of Krogers and Albertson.
Can't believe 60 Minutes is framing this subject in such a conservative slant. She is doing her job. She is trying to enforce the laws that are already on the books. Just because a few millionaires are scared doesn't mean she should stop protecting the consumer, her job!!!
It's important to sort of "play devil's advocate" and present opposing arguments so that the interviewee can respond and shut down those arguments in advance. 60 minutes did a good job here.
Unfortunately, Harris has been asked point blank what she will do to fight inflation and she has made no mention of the FTC or Khan so my sense is she's going to fire her. It was low hanging fruit for her to mention Khan's great work and she didn't. I hope I'm wrong though.
So, in finally trying to discourage and stop corporate monopolization, SHE'S the problem? Unfortunately, this always both sides form of media journalism always ends up sounding like if these big conglomerates are challenged "the sky will fall, the sky will fall". But us ordinary Americans appreciate someone who is not only fighting for us "little guys", but she's also showing what integrity, playing fair and being honorable in your profession looks like. Go Lena Khan!
Having someone as smart and talented as Lina Khan at the head of the FTC is objectively a good thing for the American public, yet 60 minutes spends this entire interview using negative framing and scaring its audience into hating her (‘are you worried going after big businesses like Amazon is going to destabilize the world economy’ is a truly insane question to ask). This is a perfect example of how media itself is an oligopoly and tries to control the narrative and maintain its own power. 60 minutes should be ashamed. All the more reason we should continue to support and encourage Khan’s incredible work
I agree with you about the media's general intolerance for the left, but on the other hand, they DID have her on. I don't know what their motivations were, but despite the questions being framed from a shockingly negative angle, I thought the editing was largely sympathetic to her. They obviously aren't just posting a straight, un-edited interview, and the parts that they picked to keep of her responses do make her sound really good.
@@jsonstache These are fair points! It is impressive they had her on. I do think she’s also very good in these interviews (I’ve seen quite a few) and think it’s more likely that most of the interview was good rather than they just picked good parts. Thank you for the reminder and good perspective though - great to have her being able to address the American public in these types of forums
To play devil's advocate I would say this gives her (Khan) the opportunity to directly challenge that rhetoric and prove it's hollow. If she can't provide a good answer to such a basic level challenge, it would go to show that perhaps she isn't as great as we might be lead to believe. I think she answered it well without overstepping or revealing too much bias. The interviewer allowed her an opportunity to shine and it worked in Khan's favor.
Just because they are questioning her and being critical of her, doesn’t mean they are negatively framing her. You can so easily make your own decision on her work/what she has done based on this report. It is important to see and understand both sides.

I have been saying this for a long time these huge corporations should be broken up. Only 4 companies control something like 80% of the meat packing in this country. 6 corporations control all of the brand names foods that you see on the grocery store shelves.
10 builders control the vast majority of new home construction - where is the healthy competition when big corporations are merging and combining forces through Blackrock and StateStreet are not following anti-trust laws.
Youd have to break them up and then loosen regulations that make meat packing operations grossly expensive and unprofitable to start and run. Then you'll see way more competition.
@@mgreg8134 That's cause they're mobile. When you have a building the regulations get way harder and more expensive to meet. You are absolutely correct, it should be the consumer in control. After all, the money they want us to part with, is in our pockets.
@@irshviralvideo we have laws on the books that are in place to promote competition in the market. This is not about regulation. This is about law-enforcement. Fact is companies become less innovative and less competitive and more complacent when they don’t have to compete.

@MrP4v cowect that's why aol died. Not because of regulators but because of innovation. Show me one example of regulations actually being the reason why we have lasting impact. Lasting. Not short term

CBS doesn't want to upset advertisers
It's important to sort of "play devil's advocate" and present opposing arguments so that the interviewee can respond and shut down those arguments in advance. 60 minutes did a good job here.
It's better than giving her softball questions so the rich can complain. Lina can handle it.
*billionaires
Exactly. At 6:30 they call what she’s doing a “revolution” when in fact she’s merely enforcing laws already on the books
Appointing Lina Khan was the best decision Biden ever made.
Just a matter of time
Big pharma didn't pay the senator from MBNA enough.
Unfortunately, Harris has been asked point blank what she will do to fight inflation and she has made no mention of the FTC or Khan so my sense is she's going to fire her. It was low hanging fruit for her to mention Khan's great work and she didn't. I hope I'm wrong though.
Except he didn't make any decisions at all...... @willardchi2571
No it wasnt because she is losing all the time.
So, in finally trying to discourage and stop corporate monopolization, SHE'S the problem? I LOVE LINA KHAN. She is unparalleled in her work to protect Americans from the aggression of billionaires. WE NEED HER.
She is the kind of government official that we need. Unfortunately, people like her are rare.
All the more reason we should continue to support and encourage Khan’s incredible work
Good point

@@JRS133 Oh, that's easy. You build an institution which enforces the laws that are created by elites who are elected by the people of the district.
Youd have to break them up and then loosen regulations that make meat packing operations grossly expensive and unprofitable to start and run. Then you'll see way more competition.
@@HH-le1vi What regulations would those be? Mobile butchers seem to have no problem meeting those regulations.

Why does 60 minutes always have antagonistic, seemingly out-of-touch interviewers? Excellent patience displayed by Lina
I agree!
It’s expected that interviewers play the devil’s advocate.
Some of the questions felt like in bad faith with came across as antagonistic
The questions have to be hard or the interviewer would not look neutral on the issues.
Some questions don't seem hard, more like the interviewer needs to be semi-adept on the subject. A dossier of important information would've done the trick - She just seems ignorant, almost intentionally so.
