Ellie's gasp/cry broke me. Absolutely left me sobbing
Bella Ramsey is an amazing performer.
I know man. She showed utter and complete fear.
@@SilentBob731 they really are.
Join the club, my dude. Bella is absolutely nailing it as Ellie.
Melanie Lynskey (Kathleen) said in the post show interviews that this ending for her character was probably for the best because she thought Kathleen could never truly find happiness. So the actress who played her agrees with you.
I think they made him younger because they wanted ellie to have more of a protective big sister relationship rather than the "sam had a crush on ellie" angle.
yes for MAXIMUM EMOTIONAL DAMAGE
@@ManomiiFox to add salt to the wound, henry looked at sams dead body because he wanted sam to be the last thing he saw before he offed himself.
@@fineaswine5863 im gonna go cry
@@jeremyschapstick lol cope...
lets cope together 😭
Ellie's little cry when henry shot himself.
That was brilliant acting
It’s crazy how Henry’s decision to save Sam ended up getting everyone killed, and then Henry ends up killing Sam anyway.
may he rot in hell with all the rest of the rats
It's poetic. His decision which is very human, base on love ended humanity lol
@@zedfan4598 😨
Also foreshadowing, if u know u know
@@yohanespaskal9352 i know
Sam could not survive, and Henry could not endure. 😭
Yoooo why are pointing this out 😭
Damn
The writers are pretty much using the characters in the game and rewriting them to be more lovable so when they die it's even more heart wrenching. Brilliant!
Naughty Dog doing emotional damage since 2013
I think they have to put in that extra effort to add depth to the characters because we're only going to see each of them for an episode rather than multiple hours of a game. I wouldn't really say one version of the characters is better than the other but I cared just as much for this version of Sam and Henry in much less time.
The way Mary instantly sobbed when Sam died was exactly how I reacted, like just full on sobbed like a dam broke inside me. I didn’t even see the last few minutes of the show through my tears because omg seeing that baby die after all Henry did to save him broke me and watching Henry have to pull the trigger ripped me to shreds like I truly don’t think I could do it
He did it on instincts then it sunk in... such a mad insight in to human survial.. henry is a hero in my eye... world of tlou lost a special person..ive always felt that.. show depiction near ended me tho.. henry and sam and all past actors need supporting role emmys lol all have been absolutly sublime man..
Best episode of the season so far. Lamar Johnson’s performance as Henry was the stand out for me. Phenomenal 🙌🏼
This episode is another reminder of how brutal and unforgiving this world is, regardless of who you are. Something as simple as running across a group of infected has catastrophic effects to deal with and even doing the right thing has consequences.
It’s no wonder Joel closed his heart off in the first place. The quicker you get attached to someone, the more likely you are to lose them.
You know whats more heart breaking? Its his first kill and to top it off its his own little brother
Oh maaan I had to relive through this again with you 😭 😭.. I was pretty much crying as much as you were. It was like Sarah all over again 😢 Great reaction as always, last of us forever causing emotional damage 😂
That shot at 4:07 of Henry looking out the window to see Joel, and the orange banner of the laundromat reflected over his eyes the same way he just painted orange over Sam's eyes to help him feel brave...fucking spectacular shot.
This show somehow gets better every week, which is crazy considering how perfect the first episode was.
So so glad they're doing justice to the game while also being just a top notch show in of itself. Enjoying your reactions too, Mary!
Even when you know what is going to happen you are still not prepared for what happens with Sam and Henry.
The Bloater looks amazing.
The second Henry shot Shiitake-Sam, I knew what was coming. Really no other move at that point, but heart-wrenching nonetheless. 😢
Well damn, she had like a legit instant reaction you would think someone would have seeing their own child getting killed in front of them, lol. This is why I love these reaction channels.
I think the deaf part kinda contributes to the plot and makes sense. In the game except for Sam, everyone slept in the same room...why? So in the adaptation, the kids sleep in the same room and adults in the other, makes sense...but then, if Sam turned while being in the same room as Ellie, he would've attacked Ellie because he would be able to hear Ellie's movements while she was sleeping...so they have to make him deaf in order for her to find out in the morning.
And it also helped that the actor(Keivonn Woodard) for Sam is deaf in real life to enforce the plot.
I never really thought this actually but that is excellent writing and makes perfect sense as well.
I loved this episode! I remember from the game and knew who it was going to end but it was still so heartbreaking. What an amazing job everyone did. Finally seeing the bloater was great! Can’t wait for what’s coming!
I was listening to the HBO TLoU Podcast earlier - with Troy Baker, Neil Druckmann, and Craig Mazin - and they were saying that the reason they wrote Sam as deaf for the show was to help set up a different sort of bond than Joel & Ellie's, and apparently they ended up casting Keivonn Woodard through, like, a Twitter callout or something? They were having trouble casting him so they put a tweet out or something, expecting to get something like a couple hundred people responding but only got 5 and he was one of them, AND he'd only had one acting job before it. Kid's got a great future ahead of him if he decides to pursue acting!
Watching this episode, all I kept thinking was this is going to be so heartbreaking in the end. Dam those writers....😢😢
I remember someone mentioning that this experience made Joel realize kids don't have it easy after all, or at least Ellie does not anymore as she felt responsible for keeping Sam safe.
This episode started a bit slow, but holy hell did that change suddenly. 😨😱
Also cool thing to notice is Kathleen had people everywhere even the most unlikely route which is why there was only 1 old guy there.
What made the ending more gut-wrenching was Agnes Obel's "Fuel to Fire" which played as the credits rolled. It perfectly complimented the tone and mood of those scenes and amplified the emotions building inside. I was already feeling bad, but when this song came on I was wrecked! Great job by the show for picking the perfect song to end on.
I've seen Mary tear up before but god damn this one done went and broke the poor thing
This episode was good and emotional at the end love the video Mary stay motivated Dream big 1 mill on the way
Love seeing you react you have the best reactions
13:20 "...are you serious?😒" lmaoo😂
Henry and Sam's death scene was even more gut wrenching than the one in the video game
The writers as [brilliant] d*cks.
The series really enhances the videogame. Gamers know the storyline. But the live-action makes you feel more emotion.
"I'm sorry [Sam]". 😭
Just when you think someone is going to make the next episode's cast list, a bloater rises from the pit and tears your head off....
In all seriousness, another week with soul-crushing experiences. Yet, this is truly the hot show of the season (and likely for the year). As a non-gamer, I can't get enough of what has transpired on the small screen. This is television living up, and expanding, it's potential.
Keep up the heartfelt reactions!!!
This ep is a good example of why this show is probably better for those who never played the game. When you know something's coming, it's just not as effective from a storytelling standpoint.
11:20 It's kinda funny that she's talking about children dieing all the time, and in the end, she dies to a child(clicker).
Really well made videos, keep it up and greetings from Argentina ♥
Adam Basil, was a stunt double, and stunt coordinator on game of thrones, and did stunt work for the Mountain character. he played the Bloater. apparently the suit weighed over 36kg
Kathleen is one of those personality types nobody seems to understand. Saying they don't see how she's a leader. Yes, she's soft spoken, but she's driven by emotion. You also have to realize she's only been leading for about 10 days. She is a woman scorned with nothing left to lose. She is driven by revenge and has become really cold hearted. Her brother was well respected so she was likely respected as well.. but her disregard for human life, led to her being a Savage leader and leading them to beating Fedra at any cost, again driven by blind rage..
She is not a good leader, just a radical one that made her perfect for the fed up resistance. Her bloodthirst ultimately killed them all, instead of trying to deal with the infected like we saw in the last episode, she was putting priorities off in order to complete her own agenda.
It's a emotionally driven, irrational, revenge led character that isn't too common. Her passion and ruthlessness is what made her a leader and a lot of people will gravitate towards that type. She's not meant to be a strong leader, just a ruthless one.. driven a bit insane by the loss of her brother
Mary Cherry is the best!
Holy crap i cried to this episode and also great reaction Mary Cherry😊😭💯
Ok
I like how well colored you made this video 😁😊 it feels so vibrant and poppin 👀🔥
Phenomenal episode once again.
Seeing the Bloater in live-action was glorious. Ironically, it doing the jaw rip game over death on the original voice of Tommy was poetry.
Melanie Lynskey was pretty ruthless in her short time on the show. She made every second of her appearance count.
But.... Henry and Sam. What more can I say about them (other than me liking the change to have Sam be deaf in the show)? Beautiful bond, beautiful dynamic with Joel & Ellie and a tragic end to their tale.
Damn, do I love this show.
Don't cry, Mary! It's going to be okay
Time for the “I’ve made a huge mistake” episode
Hey Mary. What you said about Henry was spot on. He had no purpose after losing Sam, so he ended his life. As a parallel, it’s exactly the same thing Bill did in episode 3 with Frank. Once he realized Frank was committed to ending his life that day, he decided to do the same. His passing was a lot less violent than Henry’s, and he had more time to make his decision, but it boils down to the same thing.
Keivonn Woodard, the actor for Sam, is actually deaf in real life.
Oh Mary 😢😢😢 I'm sorry about Sam and Henry i felt your reaction you made me cry with you To 💔😭😭
Hi Mary cherry
That is a good episode 🤟
This show has some moments like recycling cans. It's soda pressing.
But also, it's a bit like car assembly. It's riveting.
Don't cry love 😢
This was the episode where I felt Bella became Ellie
Hi Mary your reaction to this episode was magnificent and The Bloater was new and scary and I'm really sorry about Sam and Henry they made it so far now dead Ellie just made a friend with Sam it was very sweet and now heartbreaking💔😭 at least Joel and Ellie have each other !!

Btw this ep was mental.. for many reasons.. the infected coming up felt really like law..actually as if it was setting wrongs...and the music score was sublime...obviously bookended was 2 amazing scenes..none more so than the penultimate yin.... heavy ep.... rip henry and sam... what a fkn scene that was... last scene with ellie walking was akin to joel doing likewise when tess died... poor ellie..
It's funny how people in the comment section think Henry's decision got evryone killed when It was Kathleen's obsession that pushed her to bring her whole crew to their death instead of priotitizing dealing with the infected situation.
I reacted the same exact way…sobbing.
i had the snot and everything, a complete mess.
The "my blood is medicine scene" gave me a little bit of doubt that they wouldn't let Sam and Henry's story end. That maybe they go forward with them in the story somehow. And then Ellie woke up, and Sam was still infected :(
This episode according to me was an emmy winning episode it was freaking fantastic very close to the game with slight changes made to it. This episode made me more sad than the game did.
I'm here to see Mary cry.
It looks really good
Ellie’s gonna live with that guilt for a while. She left him to die alone 😢
I mean they rarely get to sleep you can't stay awake forever
Also, he could’ve survived if they amputated his leg sooner
This is not walking dead cheesiness
@@Brad-lt2re but she promised.
This episode look really cool 🤟
I know that this might be wierd, but i sort of miss the christmastree in the background
Man, I couldn't even begin to guess the last time I had tears rolling down my face and the Last of Us has done it twice in about a month's time
5:56 I do wonder and that didn’t fare well for me 😢💔
crazy how things come together amazingly, when the show runners respect the source material. *cough Witcher *cough *cough. (books or games either ones)
Check out last of us Podcast, directors goes into more details about their decisions. They made him younger and smaller than Eli, so she can feel like someone is looking up to her. They made Sam Deaf because they though a whole episode where its more quiet could get crepier but also more charming and peacfull. A great contrast to Eli and Joel that started to bound and express themselves a bit more. It was not intended just to make you cry more lol! xD But it worked.
Was she lying? or was she just comforting knowing the end result? Did she actually think the blood would cure him since she's just a kid and doesn't fully understand how a cure would work? So many interpretations on why she tried to cure Sam
The show is definitely priming the viewers for Part 2 already with their black & white talk and humanizing the enemies.
Something I've not heard anyone mention is Ellie's learning curve. When the infected stormed out of the ground, and she found herself surrounded, she followed Joel's advice to her the last time they were under fire and looked for a hole to crawl through. Then, like that time, she left her refuge to save someone, this time Henry and Sam.
there someone naned perry who actully voice tommy in the game
the episode to me is without a doubt a 10/10... this is perfection, period. They took every scene of the game, every single frame, even the football scene, they are maniacs :P and made them 10x more epic. Every episode is designed to portray a controverse aspect of society, LGBT, disabled people, and make us think that we are the real clickers if we don't come together in hard times. They also fixed every possible plot hole of the game... we had some clickers coming in the game, and now we have a whole horde, also the kidcler :P to make us think that even small kids can be affected
Cherry ❤❤❤
i reacted. the exact same way. as you. AND WE KNEW IT WAS COMING!!! but holy crap it was sooooooooo much worse like you said 😭😭😩
According to the creators of the show they made Sam deaf and younger to show and make it much more in your face how much Sam relies on Henry.
Mary I recommend Beneath Hill 60 WW1 movie. Very good patriotic Australian true story. Very good
Wow you burst into tears so suddenly, I've never seen someone do that before. It's understandable, I just didn't know it was possible. Also, I think the "I'm sorry" is because she broke her promise. She promised she'd stay awake with him, but she fell asleep
the infamous kidcler :P
A revolution often needs a martyr. I don't think Fedra gets overturned without that death
I'll be watching your play through once this show is over
They didn't re-write Sam to be deaf, the actor that plays him is deaf IRL. Fun fact, he plays hockey and he said his dream is to make it to the NHL.
Yup M, . . . That ending, . . . 😔😔😔
Never ever known anyone to cry at a movie as you! Don't worry! Everyone is fine and all got paid!
We of course want to know how Joel became the hardened and violent Joel we see now but almost overlook that we are watching Elle make that same journey in real time.
This was a great episode. The only thing I disliked was the part when the infected came out of the ground. Joel was just chilling on the house sniping so calmly with infinite ammo, and that one dude who told Kathleen to save herself practically just gave up without trying, which doesn't even make sense in this type of world. LIttle details like that bother me, but still, amazing episode.
Calling it now that they are sweeping any award categories, they end up in. They are not pulling any punches. And showing (if this were to actually happen) very real choices that can carry very real burdens that will bring very ugly solutions into a person's head.
I've gotta say that this was a perfect mirror of my reaction, for a moment I was done with this show.
I feel sad for henry and sam.
That Bloater came through like “Respect my plus frames and my hyper armor” 😂
Serious note though, this episode ruined my entire mood. When straight to sleep after watching it, truly gut wrenching having to rewatch that ending in live action.
Bella's scream when Henry shot himself...it haunts me.
It was a very intense episode. When we forgive we are the ones who most benefit. Ellie may also have said sorry for not saving Sam before he got bitten. Thanks for the video.
I'd like to learn more about the young blond actress they got to play the child clicker. Her part was very well choreographed.
No apologies are needed for crying. I cried too. I'm sure most did. I needed time to compose my feelings as well. I think this world needs more people like us rather than people that don't have those reactions. Otherwise... we lose.
That split-second yelp/scream Ellie did just as Henry shot himself, that is when I lost it.
Ellie calmly accepted Sam's bite because it was not her first experience and she knew that he would turn later and gave him hope, encouraging that her blood was medicine + Sam did not attack Ellie during sleep because the sun was shining on him (remember the 2nd episode) otherwise she would have been dead and she was just lucky...Get ready to cry again when Ellie meets David
What does the sun thing mean?
it's because sam was deaf
Hope we meet Ish
If you listen to the official hbo podcast for each episode they explain why they made him younger and deaf. Really interesting to hear from the creators themselves their reasoning, rather than fan speculation
Well they didnt choose to make him deaf he is deaf in real life
@@z0ey_idk525 duh. But the original game character wasn't
Perry basically told Kathleen we are Ride or Die with you. It was die.
I thought you were saying it's a floater! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
No spoilers for tlou2 but Kathleen is Ellie (in character traits, not literally)
That moment you see the "Night King" get "Arya Starked" by the clicker.
Losing a lot of fan favorite supporting characters in this show certainly reminds me of Stranger Things.
Anyone catch Kathleen commenting that children die, and basically how much is one kids life worth? Hint hint
Kathleen is new but thematically shes always been there... this ep had purpose.. sam n henry aside... kathleen is indicative of most of us tbh... i cba writting an essay... but this writting is so clever... so grey..in a world wer everything must be black and white..
