Why do you wait till they get so close before having the dragoons shoot? And why do you not then circle the drags to hit them on the flank? Just curious as to the rational.
This is just a demonstration. Sometimes your dragoons can’t take the flanks because of enemy cavalry. Or if you want to break the centre quickly, you can use this tactic.

I think it’s only showing how dragoon’s can fire while protected behind another unit
Because accuracy falls off with distance. And yes, usually one close volley is better than two further away ones
