In Napoleon Grenadiers are good because they have 30 more people per unit (to 90) plus greater variety
Pavlovsk grenadiers: Crazy charge bonus
Dutch Grenadiers: Shoot well, good melee
Velite Grenadiers: Guards that throw grenades

One tactic I've tried (only in campaign though) is something I've heard called the Carolean charge; you send grenadiers up the flank as the enemy engage your line infantry, fire a musket volley, then throw a volley of grenades, then charge as the grenades are going off. Tends to rout units pretty quick. That said, I'm using a mod (Goutlard's Fixed Firing Drills) that makes formations much closer and gives everyone volley fire, so it may be more effective than it should be.
Nice tactic. I think what makes this tactic so deadly is you don’t lose the men like you do in melee. I will have to try out your tactic thank you sir

@@FaramirsRangers These are not "tactics", these are just really lame exploits.
This is nothing like how grenadiers were used in real life. TWE is already inaccurate enough without playing it that way as well.
Why don't you give normal tips based on actual tactics, like you can use them to lob grenades over your line infantry, or over your artillery to protect them from charges, or that they're really good thrown down from fortifications? The Russians with launched Grenades are excellent behind guns to protect them from being charged down.
@@Oscuros with any tactic I put on my channel you can take it for what it is, sharing my experience. If you don’t like it don’t use it. As for real tactics not much of how the game plays would be realistic not even in some of the mods that so called improve realism. No realism in a video game just fun. However if you do end up playing this game in multiplayer someone will use it on you so be ready.

Me: Uses grenades because priming them is faster than reloading
My grenades: Only blowing up own troops or I've already routed the enemy when they explode

use to find the reload grenade mechanic really clunky,and tended to use their other great strength melee, or as great defenders of a position ie artillery.Historical note they should have the ability too form closed column,austrian and prussian ones at least, anti cav. and assault column,storming enemy positions only time columns are used in the age of linear tactics.Still streaming ?

I hope in the next 5 years, Creative Assembly comes back to this.

Good video. I use my grenadiers rather sparingly but accurately. I just forget to keep pressing the grenade button quickly enough to destroy the enemy faster. thx
Grenadiers are my favorite unit. I put them on the my flanks behind line infantry at the outset of battle. Once the firing lines have stabilized move them around the side and come up on the enemy flank and move them down the line. After the break one unit move on to the next, rolling up the enemy lines and smoking em.
Pretty cool , might use grens more often(seeing how they can destroy a line with the fast nade trick)

My ONLY criticism in this vid is the music is slightly overpowering whenever you're speaking. If only you could increase the music whenever you were silent and then decrease it whenever you spoke during certain times. Or just have the music at a lower volume throughout! Ultimately great vid, Mister Farmir!

Until now I try to flank with them throw a volley of bullets and then use grandes, but of course the technique has weaknesses, glad to learn a better way to use them.
Just shoot throw and charge, grenadiers have high melee stat for a reason. 80 men per unit means it’s always vulnerable in a prolonged battle. So shock tactic is always best suited for grenadiers. I don’t like grenadiers because as a small size shock tactics unit, I’m better off using light dragoons, green jackets, horse artillery or even just add more line Infantry to hold my lines better. I’m too lazy to micromanage these 80 men that don’t have long range or don’t ride horses.

how do you avoid getting shot at by your own line infantry?
you leave a gap for them to advance or you focus lines firing on flanks of the grenadiers
i use darth mod for the lot so i can trully get some massive numbers and use latelly the pdf files etc you can edit there number to be higher then the 250 you can get for ultra size in the mod so they can trully fight like line and have the number to back it up. :)

@@FaramirsRangers indeed :P if your pc can handle it :P especally when it is 40 v 40 card fight at once. :P and the additional units mod grenaders can fight using the square formation but can't use the grenades :( but in anycase the openings for grenades usually is limited but when you do get it in darth mod wise the grenades are much deadlier same with the rocket batteries. :D

I know this vid is two years old but... you forgot one method. The sacrifice.
Send in a weak unit, be it a unit with few men or a low value unit to the enemy. Get them in melee, then kill off both your men and his.
Its a give and take obviously. But if he has some elite infantry that would simply kill off most of your grenadiers before they get there.

It works on any level of difficulty I only play vh/vh so it definitely works there and if you play multiplayer if you nun into a player that can do it you will know :)

Personally, I only ever found grenadiers to be effective in Darthmod.
i keep two units of grenadiers in every army stack just to plug a gap , and just to show how powerful they are , a single unit of prussian grenadiers fought against 3 units of swedish line infantry , sure hte infantry was weakened in its fight against my own infantry but still the grenadiers never broke and fought until i told them to retreat , they quite litteraly butchered the 3 line units , oh and this is vanilla im talking about in case it matters

I'd say no. Not for the amount of micro needed to make them work.
Simple Line Infantry is miles ahead in terms of cost effectiveness. And they don't get punished as badly in auto-resolve.
What mod?
No mod vanilla. But it works same on any mod you can use grenades
