people would kill for a clean 240SX like that one
I saw these brand new off the transport truck at the Nissan dealer I worked at as a teenager. It was the perfect sportscar for most people. A lot of reviews back then shit-talked it for not being a turbocharged AWD beast but even as a kid, I preferred everyday usability and cost of ownership.
@@dadgarage7966 These are the exact reasons I love the BRZ and 86. They're the closest thing to a modern S-chassis car. Light, practical, and fun as hell on the twisties. Ironically enough, they're getting a 2.4L NA motor as well with the next gen.

Find a G37 or q40 while you can . Best bargain rocket out there . Mine has 207000 miles and still does 0-60 in 5.3 seconds .

Also had a Q45 back in the day, great car for its time.

@@soulerflare7 drove smooth as butter! I still conserve one Nissan product, though its not running well at the moment. Supercharged 4X4 Xterra, the first gen. I want a 2nd gen to V8 swap (easy swap from their 1/2 ton truck).
It's a damn shame what Nissan has become man. The CVT transmissions haven't been the most reliable. I daily a 1996 Nissan Maxima with 180,000+ miles. 2nd owner. Besides regular wear & tear and regular maintenance she's been trouble free. I would take any 80s-early 2000s Nissan product over anything they're making today
If you told someone that this car would go up in value 25 years later back then, they would laugh at you.
1978-87 Cutlass, Grand Prix, Monte Carlo & Regal models are now $5k-$40k. Lamborghini Countach, 5 yrs ago were about $70k-80k, now, $1 million, I don't get it.
I had two of these. A dark blue, 5 speed 1989 hatchback and a nice red 5 speed hatchback. Really loved these. Followed up with a 1994 red 300ZX NA.
Someone is selling one in Pasadena, MD. 60K miles, $8,000 asking price.
But there's a catch:
It has the 4-speed automatic.
You can once buy a first gen Mazda Miata for only a couple grand. Not anymore when most are pushing $10K.
@@ryanpham3308 I was lucky enough to get an automatic 91 hatch that had been sitting for 5 years, fully intact minus gas tank/fuel pump/injectors/spark plugs, for $1800... pretty soon here I’ll be asking $12000 for it after manual conversion, body kit, and paint... lol

Not all of them are good. Ford -Mazda 626 was not very reliable, and the paint was terrible. I had one, also had a Maxima V6 with a 5 speed, also not very good at all. Man those seats were like boards and it wouldn't go anywhere in the snow, Plus it would only give you advertised horsepower maybe two or three days a month for some reason. I did like the 240SX, a real drivers car, very pricey in upper trims for the 90's compared to a Mustang GT. The 240sx was the better car in handling and overall build - Sandy
@@sandyshoremann7524 I had a 626 as my first car and it was pretty reliable. I was more or less referring to their sports cars that no longer exist. I think it's luck of the draw with all cars tbh.
@@dontelindsey5846 Could be and a very perceptive statement; Though there were material spec and overall design issues on mine that would be widespread. Rubber Intake hose split and leaked air due to no flexability in cold weather, paint peeled and flaked off and showed rain damage in 2 years. Engine was somewhat weak and noisy and my trans failed. All in less than 30K miles. I think mine was a '96 but that was long ago. 1st year Mazda built in USA at the Flat Rock plant in Michigan

Now a day you can pick one of these up on Craigslist or Autotrader for cheap. Probably an unmodified one for $2K to $3k tops.

I really, really miss these front-end designs. Cars today look like surprised wide-mouthed bass or something, I can't get past the over-sized grills, they've all copied that ridiculous design cue off each other.
@@ervin7178 have you try looking at Craigslist, AutoTrader, or Bring-A-Trailer? You can pick one up but might have like 100K miles or more than 2 previous owners.

I had a Stanza instead, which shared a few things. (Engine, dash, seats, steering wheel, etc.) Cool angular styling too.

@@Gr8thxAlot Those Stanzas were bullet proof. Compact sedan, boxy styling & excellent on fuel. You couldn't go wrong. My aunt & uncle had one in the 90s. I daily a 1996 Nissan Maxima. My first car- wouldn't trade it for the world. Same angular/boxy styling as your Stanza more or less. After few mods like longtube headers, CAI, bigger tires/wheels, full catback it returns almost the same mpg as my Scat Pack Challenger lol. I totally love it
These cars had excellent handeling. To this day I think it's one of the most attractive small coupes.

I had a 95 sx 240 se back in the day Mine sat on the dealer's lot for 2 years it was loaded with a 5 speed great car bought in 96 yes I remember when nobody wanted one back in the day how times have changed !!
Still to this day it looks absolutely gorgeous

Truly one of NIssans best cars, but I have not seen a clean one like the video in years.
People think of these as drift missiles, but they forget that they came with the ka24 (i.e.) a truck engine. They weren't fast cars from the factory.
You don't need stupid amounts of horsepower to drift. I know plenty of people that can drift a stock 240sx.
It's not a truck engine. It's just a run-of-the-mill engine that was used in their trucks, too.
It was used in the Nissan Stanza, too.

The right hand JDM 240SX is known as the Silvia S14. (Thanks to playing the Gran Turismo series on PlayStation consoles)
it also came with a different engine than the 240sx, the Silvia came with an SR20DE/SR20DET, while the 240 was stuck with a KA24E/KA24DE, which came with lower horsepower and wasn't available with a turbo from factory.

Who would have guessed back then nearly all remaining examples in 2021 would either have been totaled during street racing or be totaled as drift cars often with engine swaps. It’s honestly kind of sad. It’s a great legendary unique car mostly destroyed by misguided youth.

My 98 240sx i have had since 2004 and its in pretty pristine shape. Just like my 98 Supra with 30k miles, in nearly mint condition.

These came out in JDM in late 1993 as Silvia S14 and USA in spring 1994. Really should've been called a 1994 model.
They do it, because of "shopping seasons" and fiscal years. 1995 fiscal year started in October 1994 and ended in September 1995, which equals 1995 model year.
However, some automakers' USA marketers cheat by many months and call some cars 2022 models as of last month (Jan 2021). No car sold before July-September should be next year's model.
It's so dumb.
The one car that Nissan seriously needs to bring back!!! They would fly off of the lots if it was a great RWD sports coupe under 30k. I wish more car companies would wake up and see sporty cars sell if you make them great looking with decent power for a good price.
The 370Z has been a great RWD sports coupe under 30k for years and its sales numbers prove you wrong. It was great looking and had great power for a decent price (base model)..
Would be a great competitor to the GT86 since it basically has the small rwd coupe market to itself.

best first car ever for real, ill never get rid of mine
I got one with 66,000 miles on it, in 2000. I had it for 8 years, 130,000 miles, and several seasons of autocross before I got married and the little dipstick got it rear-ended. At 195,000 miles it was just starting to burn a little oil and - remarkable for a Nissan - only had one electrical problem.
One of the best well made cars of all time. It didnt promise blistering fast speeds, but it felt quick and precise like Foxbody owners, AE86 owners and even Miata owners but with the benefits of more luxurious cars, had multi-link suspension AND was RWD something Ford didnt introduce until 2010+ btw. It was well made, didnt dent easily, and moderately fuel effecient. Finding a stock body one is something to behold however, especially with the drift tax.
I remember when I was little I used to confuse this car with the 1st gen. Lexus SC coupe from far away

I have been waiting for this video!! In college, I bought a 1995 240sx SE, it was dark purple (Concord Grey) with black interior with a 5 speed. It’s hilarious seeing how slow the cars figures are, but it was SO much fun. I wish I had never sold it...

Still looks good today. I see a few of these around but the problem is people have turned them into fast and furious junk boxes.
A car that I didn't appreciate when they were new. Now it's impossible to find one that hasn't been turned into a drift star.
Crazy how in the early to late 2000s these cars were considered your basic transportation. I’ve seen fair condition first gens that went for $1500 all day long on Craigslist . The appeal these cars had was they fit pretty much anybodies budget especially high school and college students who needed something affordable and easy to maintain. Parts were easy and cheap to get and aftermarket support was strong with one coupled with it being rwd making it a blast to drive for a cheap price. Crazy how nowadays you’d have to shell out 7k for one thats rusty with high miles or beat to hell and people fighting over to buy it. Back in late 2015 I ran across a completely stock 1997 240sx with all the features I wanted which was the 5 speed manual low miles 95k and all the power options for the year. Dealership was asking 20k and I thought it was outrageous then but now I realized that was a steal for a relatively rare example of an unmolested and clean 240sx that hasn’t been stolen, modded, or destroyed. The car sold within a week of the ad being up. It’s like the old Chevy c10 pickups you could’ve bought in the late 90s to mid 2000s for as cheap as $300 back than now people ask 10k or more in fairly ok condition. It sucks because now if you want to get your hands on a car that has the attributes that many enthusiasts want you’d have to save up a considerable amount to be able to afford a car you saw as a kid and wanted.

I love these cars wish Nissan would bring them back as Nissan trying be like they were in 90s. I saw one think almost a year ago used see couple of these still looks beautiful after almost three decades ago this and the SC 400 were my favorites.

Won't lie, that I thought the gen 2 240SX was sexy looking but my heart went more towards the Probe GT with the V6.
Those things were bullet proof; a friend of mine had one and he abused the heck out of it yet it never broke down and gave him 300k trouble free miles until he totaled it!
I've had a couple 240sx's and miss them very much. Comfortable cruisers that are easy to slide around with a torquey indestructible truck engine. Sunroof had a flap that eliminated buffering and the heads up display was ideal for long trips. The only thing they lacked (from the factory) was a limited slip differential. Useless in any kind of bad weather though.

Regardless of Nissan's ambitions I don't remember this car being a huge hit with women let alone professional women. Celica and Prelude on the other hand both easily attained that as well as the v6 Camaro.

Business women were the people who bought them new--which meant they were still in excellent condition for second buyers.

In Japan the Silvias were marketed as date cars for young professional men that were just starting their careers. Then again it had a 220bhp SR20DET over there.

What a cool little car. They were so rewarding to drive, slow , sure but there is something to be said for a small rear wheel drive car with a 5 speed and a sunroof. Like zipping around in a sophisticated go-cart.

I went with a sr20det stock from a JDM S14 with the S15 stock ECU, S15 Transmission (6 speed), and S15 LSD.
It feels like a different car.
so much faster than the stock KA24DE, and it handles so good in corners. I love it! It screams with the HKS HI Power Bov with a HKS Hipower catback exhaust. that extra gear is much needed!

Hopefully they'll be back soon now that Carlos Ghosn is gone and also with the new Z car coming out. Nissan has too much history to just fall by the wayside.

Comically popular. I bought my 1995 5spd in 2004 for $3,300. It's pretty much the standard for "drift" cars, and drift popularity has made them incredibly rare. I think they made like 20,000 of them in 1995, and less for each following year. Many of them have been totaled, rusted out, or torn up with modifications. A "stock" one in good condition nowdays is likely worth a LOT of money.
Back when Nissans were Nissans and not reshaped Renaults.

There was a time that just about every manufacturer had at least one sports car or sporty coupe in their line up. Too bad those days are long gone and nearly all car companies only seem to focus now on crossovers and SUVs.
I would love this car new as my daily driver on 2021!! What an awesome looking car and it has all the features I need. Even a cellphone charger.

One ECM just for the engine, not 10 different modules to fail.
Radar in the windshield, infrared sensor in the mirrors, traction modules, ABS, 10 airbags, 20'' TV in the dash, 8 speed automatic, direct injection, electronic climate controls, CAN bus lines, battery powered ignition key...

very underrated car during it's time, if it had a bit more power it would of been a top seller. Though I have a feeling that 4 cyl was just right and a blast to drive. Sports car don't need to be scary fast to be fun, just need to handle and brake well with enough pep to keep it moving.
Underrated? Im.not sure. It never performed well compared to its competitors.
They put the KA24DE in this car in the US because turbo cars were expensive to jmsure.
Nissan SIlvia is the best looking Nissan in my opinion.
