    I owned one of these 240s back in the 90s and something that stands out to this day was how good the fit and finish of this vehicle was.. Premium materials came together perfectly in a very fun and affordable car..You could tell the engineers and folks that built these really put in the hours and cared about the finished product.

    This era of the 240SX was a classy ride. I had a 1991 Toyota Celica ST back in the day, and a friend of mine had a 240SX. This was of course a much more refined car. I remember it well. With the chip shortage, making retro, simple vehicles without all of the computerized elements would be an interesting move.

      The 350/370z and G35/37 are the modern equivalent to the 300zx and not the 240sx. The closest you get to a modern rear wheel drive 4 banger is the FRS/BRZ twins but I do hope someone could introduce some competition so that we can get a factory turbo FRS/BRZ. Another car the gets close to a modern equivalent is the new ECO boost mustang but unfortunately it's a large car along with the Gensis Coupe which has dropped the turbo 4 option.

    I bought a black Fastback new in October of 1991. It was my every day driver for 21-1/2 years. Over those years I spent more on stereos and reapolsetry than repairs. The love affair ended when I rear ended a Lexus. A bent frame was the cause of death. I still miss her.

    I had a 1990 240SX and he was spot on in his review, right down to having to lean over the steering wheel to see the controls. What I don't get is his criticism of the lack of gauges. I got the speed, tripometer, fuel tank, engine temperature and tachometer. Plus it delivered a sports car performance at compact car insurance rates! I went back to Nissan 3 years ago by leasing a Rogue and I think I'll stick to them for a while.

    Nissan needs to bring this back, they really need a cheaper car for the younger audience to get in! low 20k range and don't top 30k as you will get in the area of the 370z. It would really make some good sales, imagine if it started at some odd number like 19k...oh Lawd would the sales go nuts!!! Common Nissan, get back in the game!

    • @XenomorphLV426
      @XenomorphLV426 9 лет назад +8

      Acc0rd79 I agree. Nissan was going to release a successor of the Datsun 510, but they backed out due to the subpar response of the FRS/BRZ sales. Shame, really. Only hope is the Nismo Sentra.
      BTW, I hope I win that contest. W00t.

    • @arthurmroyce
      @arthurmroyce 9 лет назад +2

      Acc0rd79 The BRZ/FR-S sales are discouraging this sort of car. Even Hyundai dropped the 2.0T on the Genesis Coupe and that car is expected to go up market in the 2017 release. I remember test driving this exact model, but I bought a 1991 Stealth R/T instead. Now I have a Genesis Coupe as a cheap sporty commuter car. It has been rock solid in reliability btw. The Kia Stinger is not getting any traction either due to sales of sporty coupes in the 20k to 30k range. I still get a lot of compliments on my Genesis...from people who drive cars with too many doors.

    • @Acc0rd79
      @Acc0rd79 9 лет назад

      Arthur Royce genesis cars are everywhere but I do feel these companies need to find a sweet spot from the high teens to the low 20k range. I would LOVE to see Honda bring back a Crx, 180hp, 40 to 50mpg maybe and around 17k starting, I think that would sell like hot cakes!

    • @arthurmroyce
      @arthurmroyce 9 лет назад +2

      Acc0rd79 You are dreaming at that price point. Federal regulations have pushed the cost and weight of cars up over the years. 17k gets you an Accent if you are lucky. The reason the original Gen Coupe was so cheap is because Hyundai has lower labor costs. A fun RWD car is going to start at around 25k and go up from there unfortunately.

    I think expensive tech like 4WS and turbocharged engines might have ultimately lead to the fall of many Japanese Sports coupes. The ones that survived the longest always costed less than or equvilent to other traditional compact sedans. You choose a Toyota Corolla or Celica at equal price. Honda Accord or Prelude. Honda Civic or Acura Integra/RSX. Even the Chevorlet camero and pontiac firebird died.

    I have a '92 model with at least 248,000 miles on it. I'd like to be a lot more certain about the mileage, but odometer failed, and then the tachometer, so I had to change the gauge cluster and the new on reads low by about 32,000 miles. 😕
    I can confirm that the original seats were kinda lame. They weren't really comfortable, nor did they hold me very well when I was doing an autocross run.
    1996 seats and seatbelts made it a lot nicer.

    Classic lines that fit right into this era. Interior modern and hasn't aged as badly as some others of its time. Huge negative was the engine though, very lethargic. Surprised they tried comparing to the Eclipse GSX and saying it has "only" 35 hp more. The Eclipse roasted any 240sx so badly it was no competition. And actually, even the SE-R/NX2000 were faster and punchier cars in a straight line. The sucky engine is really what hindered the 240sx for the enthusiast and I don't buy the whole insurance thing either - they really just did not want a less costly RWD car to outperform the 300zx turbo.

      Insurance in California at that time was horrendous. Cheap full coverage policy for a teen with this car probably ran about 2,500 dollars a year. Turbocharging it probably would have added a minimum of 500 dollars. You can just about double those figures in today's dollars.

      Motorweek tested out of Michigan...likely this car was junked 20 years ago due to frame rot. Remember, they were not worth much used until about 8 years ago, so nobody fixed them when they rusted out.
      Its the same reason Datsuns are so rare, despite nearly indestructible mechanicals.

    The KA gives character to the 240. I know a lot of ya complain its a shot motor, why not a turbocharge motor like the sr. But see, if these 240s were turbocharged, they would've been more expensive here in the US, which means less people would buy them, and less wouldve been produced. If you build a KA properly it can easily compete with the SR , making the KA way much better. The reason it's common to swap the KA because most KA motor are high mileage already, and it does cost to actually rebuild and put high performance parts in it. The cost is to build one you can buy a SR and tune it well and make great power. But can't give the KA much hate, its awesome. I've seen guys drift single cams like a SR.

    • @bliglum
      @bliglum 9 лет назад +1

      Wreckless The entire "if you build a KA properly" argument is rather silly.. Why? Because you can build up pretty much ANY motor to be great... But why bother when you could just swap in an SR? Which would deliver the extra power the driver is craving, and it would likely do so with greater reliability, less weight, and a better sound to boot.

    • @blackstarbucks
      @blackstarbucks 9 лет назад +1

      bliglum The sr20det weighs about 50 pounds less. And the ka24de internals is good to about 320-350 hp.

    • @abymondesir23
      @abymondesir23 9 лет назад

      +bliglum poor argumaent because it depends on the driver/appication itself and to have the ka as an option is good their cheap and come dime a dozen not to mention many people learned how to drift in a stock ka before adding more power/swapping engines

    • @bliglum
      @bliglum 9 лет назад

      S13 WARRIOR That's true. To each their own and all that. I say screw both the SR and the KA now though. It's all about that RB baby!
