The 3000GT/Stealth outsold all their competition. The grand touring car that is the 3000gt/Stealth beat all these sports cars in sales. Much more sophisticated than porsche or chevy at the time with AWD, AWS, electronic suspension, tunable exhaust, and better interior than any car of that era. The supra won based on desirability due to cult following and it having a detuned supercar powertrain. You'd actually come out ahead if you bought a ton of supras new off the lot @ $38k and stockpiled them until now.
zestydude87 Today, that would be a "funny" comparison if comparing 2014 models. Although in this case, nearly every car from that era DESTROYS the porsche. This particular era for porsche is abysmal. That porsche costs the most and is not better than any car in this video in any aspect. This is coming from a Porsche fan too.
xnitronx The 968 wasn't bad, just not as fast. It was the end of the 944 era. I own a 944s2 with a 968 engine swap and its still a lot of fun. It outhandles the corvette of that era in spades. The Rx-7 is really the only car out of the others in this test that really beats the 968 at its game. Because lighter and turbo.
Shaun Martin The 968 is garbage porsche...kinda like early boxsters....i'd hands down take a supra over those two...any one who would pick the others know very little about cars...more into being "seen" than driving...
My wife and I owned a pair of 300ZX TT's, and they felt faster than the claimed 0-60 time. At times scary fast! Modern sports cars with 0-60 in the 3-4 second range must be an insane driving experience!
When I was in high school I owned a used Honda Prelude, I thought to myself "How could a car be any faster then this?" - It did 0-60mph in about 9s.. Now my daily driver does 0-60 in 3.7s LOL
Nice! I'll be getting either a TT or NA model this year. Originally was going for the new Z and Im sure it will be much faster but the 300zx was one of the cars that I admired growing up.
@@signal_rr These cars have a very tight engine bay making it very hard to work on. The TT's will be a labor of love, that's lots of labor! If you can do it yourself, then go for it. Otherwise it'll cost a bundle to get these old beauties running perfectly again.
@@brickwal92tt Oh yeah, was quite aware of the cramped engine bay as I knew a guy that owned one and told me about it. Also been doing a ton of research on these cars and fully accept the issues and will do most of the work myself.
Truly a great time for Japanese sports cars. I don't think anything today from the Japanese car market can match that era. The corvette looks the most dated out of the bunch, and I think the supra was a great value even then. I would love to own any one of those master pieces.
I think all of these cars look rather crappy today. This Corvette looked dated 21 years ago. It was a decade old. It was already time to bring the C5 to showrooms. The Supra and RX-7 have that distinct 90's smooth bubble design. The Stealth reminds me of that cheap "futuristic" look they tried to implement into other cars, like the Probe(ugh). The Porsche and Nissan look almost like regular vehicles. The Fox body Mustang, which was downright archaic by 1993, looked more extreme than either of those in its GT form. With that being said, I'd bet a metric ton of money that all of them are still a fucking blast to drive.
Wow... I must say I am impressed by these amazing machines! Everything is turbo'd, defiantly was surprised that the RX-7 came turbo'd. Everything had a removable roofs, and Everything looked amazing.
Red Dave oh yea. It’s only gonna increase in value, people still get them to beat on em, those few stock Supra’s in manual with the GTE engine will be worth an insane amount in 20 years
@@tiko5876 car values for newer cars are gonna go way up I think. People who have been working from home during corona have nowhere to spend the money, and I think there's gonna be a lot of purchases after this virus is over.
That is a good blast from the past. When I used to drool over those cars because I was too young to afford one. I used to drool over the 3000GT the most. But about 5 years ago I bought the Supra. The Supra is the hands down winner in this group. Although I do kind of wish I had an RX7 also. The Supra has held its value the most though Adding an Acura NSX, a Mustang 5.0 notchback, Camaro Iroc-Z , Trans-AM GTA and a Buick Grand National would round out the list... but then there is also the GMC Typhoon and GMC Syclone to deal with.
Owned all 3 of these back in day 94’ Supra Turbo/93’ RX7/91’ 300ZX Turbo and my brother had a 1994 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR4 so I was fortunate enough to able to experience all of them and without a doubt my favorite to drive was RX-7.....so much lighter feeling and on edge than the others, it honestly made the Supra/300ZX seem more like really high performance but much heavier GT cars.

I might be in the minority but I always liked the C4's styling. It's strange how no one seems to remember the C4 fondly, unless it's the Grand Sport or the ZR1, but it's good to know that it really was competitive later in its lifespan. Maybe I'll find a good example before I hit 30.
My problem with it was the bad build quality. After SIX months the ceiling cloth was hanging down, the door insides were lose . Until I got them fixed I had to hold the door itself when closing the driver side door otherwise I would rip off the door inside simply by closing the door. Basically a lot of stuff got lose or stop working (lights and so on). I checked with some other guys owning same model and many had the same sort of problems. If US auto makers would just make that little last bit of effort and implement better quality check they would be as good as any high end car company. OK, so they get a bit more expensive but it's worth it and sales would be higher. I never looked at another vette until C7. This one I think the engineers made the decisions and not the accountants. It looks great both inside and out, with high quality materials.

Of all my life’s regrets. Selling my 1993 RX7 is near or at the top. The sellers remorse was instantaneous, and it still stings.... 20 some odd years later.
I bought the ‘93 RX-7 ‘cause I couldn’t quite afford to pay cash for the Supra. Once I bridge ported it and went to a single ball bearing turbo, it was very competitive with every Supra encountered. Even stock it out handled everything else I raced in Tampa during the mid 90s. I loved that car and should never have traded it.
Its amazing the impression left from the Supra, everyone is talking about it on these comments. My heart goes to the Stealth. I had a R/T stealth in highschool, I was lucky enough to save up money and buy a used one.
I had a 93 VR4 for 5 years, you sit so low in those cars, it feels more of a supercar then an FD or Mk4, they are fast, barley push in corners, just hard to repair, complex, tour mode suspension was ok, sport mode was bloody firm, huge brakes (like the other cars) a great time in the world for cars
V-Way it was also faster than the others in a straight line depsite its weight, look it up. It was the only one to hit 60 in under 5 seconds and runs low to mid 13s stock. I own a 96 vr4, stock, i ran a 13.3@105mph. I also owned a stock 93 300zx tt, the vr4 stomped it from a dig and a roll.
Jayden Jones Yeah, the ZR1 cost DOUBLE what a standard Covette cost.. In an apples to apples comparison, Supra and Vette at similar price points, the Vette got stomped. And lets not even get started on what would happen if you put the price difference it would take to step up to a ZR1 into mods for the Supra!
The memories. I used to watch this show regularly as a teenager and had the magazine subscription as well. It's great that the "show" is still going today.
The beauty of throwbacks. You either hate the things in them or love them. The content makes you feel like you're in a time machine. +Nostalgia points. And you really can't talk crap because why bother complaining about something that happened decades ago.
The golden era for Japanese cars. A subtle nuclear-arms race. This model Z car is my all-time favorite car. Back when cars were turbocharged for performance.
RX7 FD is the most beautiful and one of the best handling cars ever made. It still makes my heart beat fast when I see one. You have to love every single one of these cars, though. So much win in this video, so much.
That Supra. A true legend. It beats down cars today in a straight line, in the turns, and braking. Some mags got 0-60 in 4.6sec even stock. It's one of those cars that come along every 10 years or so. Another that comes to mind was the Evo 7/8/9. Toyota is bringing back the Supra on a BMW platform and/or powertrain. It has a lot to live up to, and hopefully it hits that $45-55k mark. Toyota better not screw this one up like they did the 86.
***** It is man. 200 hp in such a well-balanced car is too little. As a number it's OK but taking everything into context, it needs more power to really blow everyone's mind off. To get it to a new level.
ianiva I think it was wise to leave room for tuners, which helps maintain interest while keeping development costs and base vehicle price low. It also leaves room for a future model which is more horsepower-oriented, so that they can do a mid-run refresh and improve the value of their development investment. All they need to do is insert a stronger motor, up the shocks and struts and put a new wheel/tire package and maybe make some more angry body work and they have a new model a few years on.
Martin Espinoza There's always room for tuners. Those guys even tune cars that don't really need to be tuned. Regarding the faster model, I'm afraid they won't do that. There's no indication they will and that's what makes me sad. As I said, the BRZ with the STI's engine would be sublime!
Those prices. 20 years later, my 2015 Mustang GT cost the same as the low end of those,or less, makes 2x the power, gets much better gas mileage, and outperforms them in just about every way imaginable. Seems like a great value and yet people complain they are getting too expensive
Matthew Hunter wow! And almost 3 decades have passed since then. Yes, a used mustang gt is a great bang for buck and are a lot of fun, girls like them, but man it’s the same as comparing your iPhone to an IBM desktop at the time and saying the IBM desktop sucks because it costed more and can’t hang with the iPhone in performance, of course it can’t, you are compared modern and outdated technology, of course modern is better. If they used a stock 93 mustang in this video it would have been destroyed by every car on the list, yet your 2015 gt prevails. Why? Because modernization
I agree completely with this assessment. My 1994 25th Anniversary Trans-Am was a bad beast in 1996 (when I got her). Now, she would have trouble keeping up with a V6 anything. I love my 2012 SS Camaro and my new (too me) 2017 yellow and black Dodge Challenger RT+P that's pushing 440hp@425 ft. lb of torque because I wasn't having that 375 hp nonsense. I'm in love with this golden age of America performance we have been living in. It's like the limits haven't just been passed they've been destroyed. I remember when the C5 Zo6 Corvette was first announced at 400 hp and people gasped. That's just too fast they said...I wonder what they think of the C6/C7's, Hellcat Redeye's, or Hell the Ford Coyote engines? 400 hp sounds like a daily driver.
I drove RX-7 in 1996 and it was a 1994 I think same as this either way. I was so surprised when the redline and fuel cut off were so high that as I left a stop sign turning right on to a 55mph st route I opened it up half way around the corner from an easy takeoff. It swung the ass to the left and stayed there, I shifted at 7k. It was linear power. It even had that low end torque I didn’t think it would have to step the ass out at that low speed and rpm. Pretty cool car.
Simple, they took out a pair of turbos. The New 370Z would be as faster if it had the same twin turbo setup. I gave up wondering why they never added the turbos.....
The motor trend host is the YES MAN of the auto-review industry. He seems like everything without critical thought. As for which Car I'd pick...man toss up between the Supra and the 300ZX.
the stealth is not only much more technologically advanced but cheaper and had a faster top speed than the supra. just look at the numbers the stealth outsold them all
I was a Valet at a 5 star hotel which was built into the side of a ski mountain when I was in highschool until I graduated college (1996-2004).. I drove all these cars and they were all a blast to drive the 1/3 mile from a hidden parking lot up a strait away into two S turns. The best thing was that nobody could see you until you rounded the last corner at the top of the hill and pulled up to the front of the Hotel. It was an amazing job and I can remember driving each and every one of these cars. But to tell the truth, out of all of them, the real beast and ultimate drivers car was the 3000GT VR4. With it's twin Turbo V6, Awd, and 4 wheel steering, that car would stick to the road, pin you to the seats and just outshine everything else. The Supra's, RX7's, Vette's and Porsche's were a blast but as soon as you got into the power band, the back end would kick out and unless you wanted to drift, you had to let off the gas. The Bishi was something that made it's animal powerplant useable in all conditions and on all roads. We had an owner who had a red one with tan interior and every Valet called it the king. the consensus was that it was the best of all the sport cars we got to drive. I'd say that the only thing that rivaled it was this one crazy guy's early 90's caged 911 Turbo which was TUNED beyond belief ( He once told us that the titanium exhaust cost him $30,000! ) When looking at it with it's wide body kit and it's 305 rear tires, you knew to be careful with it. The one time I got on it up the strait away, I broke both rear tires free on hot dry pavement and as I let off the gas and glanced at the gauges, the speedo needle was dropping quickly past 150 mph as I was still spinning.. and I that was in third gear! Later that day, the Hotel manager had a meeting with all of us asking who left 50 yards of THICK rubber on the hill lol. I piped up and said that I heard a loud rev earlier in the day and then the white Porsche pulled up to be parked. "It had to be that guy" I said, Haha! He bought it and nobody got in trouble.. BUT! The next day, as the owner brought the car in to get parked, he said to my buddy, "I told you guys to be careful with this thing. It looks like somebody got into boost on the hill! I have friends with Vipers, Lambo's and Ferrari's and they wont drive with me in this because it scares them." 100% I believed him! Ahh the good old days :)
The Dodge Stealth was my favorite sports car of the mid-90s. I still think it looks good today, but I think the Mazda rx-7 gives it a run for it's money.
i had a 1979 supra, it was used, i bought it in 1987..but dang it felt fast to me..it pulled hard thru the gears and felt like it was sucking you back in the seat , it had good torque.
Ahh, good ol 1993. My favorite year of ALL TIME for cars and movies. Also, what a WEAK launch @ 7:32. If they launched the Stealth like the Corvette @ 8:39, the Stealth would have gotten ~5 second 0-60. You have to do a fast slip of the clutch which will cause front tires to chirp a little, more difficult to do properly with AWD vs. RWD though.
If only I could travel back in time with the money I have now, to when I was a young man and these were new! Back then, I didn't have 2 nickels to rub together 😅and these may as well have been $500K instead of $40K. Thanks for the video!
The RX-7 is so damn pretty. They could sell a car with the exact same body today, all they'd have to do is update the headlights because flip-ups are no longer legal.

You'd actually come out ahead if you bought a ton of supras new off the lot @ $38k and stockpiled them until now.
xnitronx Lol, no, you misunderstood Tommy... he meant that any of those other cars were even mentioned in the same breath with the Porsche!
zestydude87 Today, that would be a "funny" comparison if comparing 2014 models.
So cool to see a group of legends and a Porsche 968 in one video!
the fd rx7 is in the running for most gorgeous car of all time
I'd still take the Supra and 300ZX in turbo forms.
Truly a great time for Japanese sports cars. I don't think anything today from the Japanese car market can match that era. The corvette looks the most dated out of the bunch, and I think the supra was a great value even then. I would love to own any one of those master pieces.
I agree, they are only barely starting to come back to those cars they were making in the 80s and 90s.
Let's not forget these are future classics as well.
It made much more than 276, but they just said it made 276.
The 276hp thing didn't apply to US market cars; the Supra made 320hp here and the Z, 300hp.
I love these old clips. There should be a video archive of all reviews.
Wow... I must say I am impressed by these amazing machines! Everything is turbo'd, defiantly was surprised that the RX-7 came turbo'd. Everything had a removable roofs, and Everything looked amazing.
+sead garanovic I love the 90's Japanese made cars, especially the 93-98 Supra twin turbo!
I love that removable roof is up there with all the other impressive things about these cars. I totally agree!
I was defiant too when I saw the RX-7.
The Supra can still command its retail value or more if it's in good condition and unmodified. I guess that makes it a classic.
igotwhips So that car I have in my garage is worth money didn't even know always wonder why people always looked at it while I took it out.
Lol now it commands six figures if it's in great condition
Red Dave oh yea. It’s only gonna increase in value, people still get them to beat on em, those few stock Supra’s in manual with the GTE engine will be worth an insane amount in 20 years
@@tiko5876 car values for newer cars are gonna go way up I think. People who have been working from home during corona have nowhere to spend the money, and I think there's gonna be a lot of purchases after this virus is over.
300zx still my favorite of the bunch
That is a good blast from the past. When I used to drool over those cars because I was too young to afford one. I used to drool over the 3000GT the most.
But about 5 years ago I bought the Supra.
The Supra is the hands down winner in this group. Although I do kind of wish I had an RX7 also. The Supra has held its value the most though
Adding an Acura NSX, a Mustang 5.0 notchback, Camaro Iroc-Z , Trans-AM GTA and a Buick Grand National would round out the list... but then there is also the GMC Typhoon and GMC Syclone to deal with.
Yes because came 4 years later than 300ZX Z32TT, 3KGT VR4 and a year behind of the RX7.
This is when cars were cars, not mobile bedrooms

I might be in the minority but I always liked the C4's styling. It's strange how no one seems to remember the C4 fondly, unless it's the Grand Sport or the ZR1, but it's good to know that it really was competitive later in its lifespan. Maybe I'll find a good example before I hit 30.
Bc they were and are pos
mike88g1 Alright sure, whatever you say buddy.
mike88g1 how were they a POS? they outperformed cars costing plenty more
My problem with it was the bad build quality.

I owned a Supra twin turbo in 1995. Completely stock was still faster than a 911 or an M3 remaining very comfortable and silent.
+reyrob why do you not still own it?
Sold it in 1997 and bought a 911 Turbo
that supra was not faster than a 911 youre in a dream world if you think that. couldve been comparable 0-60 times but beyond that the cars are not similar
@@mikeholland6750 How fast do you think a non turbo 911 from that time was? A stock Supra could definitely live with a non turboed 911 and could exceed the 155 mph top speed without the electronic limiter.

PLEASE do this every week!
We shall continue till we run out. Check out the 84 Rabbit GTI and 93 Callaway Corvette we've already posted.
Cool video.. ive had my 93 twin turbo stealth for 13 years.. still has under a 100k miles on it.. love that car...
I think the design of the RX-7 have aged the best out of all the cars presented.
I think the Stealth aged a bit better.
@@JoeJohnson-mk4qd Aaaand not true
I had a 92 Dodge Stealth and of all the fast cars I have owned it was probably the best handling of the bunch. WAY ahead of its time in technology.
Maxwell Castro Those cars were boats that's why they were never popular.
Kingsoupturbo I agree I think that they are all supercars.
Thanks for making this video available. I use to watch this show when I was a teenager dreaming of these cars!!!
Wow the Supra thrashed all of those 0-60 times. Bravo.
Nick DiNunzio And as we all now know.. It's engine wasn't even beginning to break a sweat while doing so!! Supra was such an underrated monster.
Nick DiNunzio 5.0 seconds to 5.4 and 5.3 is hardly " Thrashing" as you say.....lol
+tom11zz884 Also motortrend clocked a stock supra to 60 in 4.6 seconds. So yea STFU
Jayden Jones
Yeah. And the ZR1 also cost a lot more....
Jayden Jones
Yeah, the ZR1 cost DOUBLE what a standard Covette cost..
I would love to add a Porsche 968 to my stable, very rare and underappreciated car.

***** It drives very good but it's underpowered. If Subaru made an STi version it would be one of the best sportscars in the market.
***** It is man. 200 hp in such a well-balanced car is too little. As a number it's OK but taking everything into context, it needs more power to really blow everyone's mind off. To get it to a new level.
ianiva exactly! with all the engines in the subie parts bins, why this one? =\
ianiva I think it was wise to leave room for tuners, which helps maintain interest while keeping development costs and base vehicle price low.
Inside and out, the nissan 300zx turbo is timeless. It will still look good 50 years from now.
no way, porsche and vette aside, it is by far the most dated.

Toyota A90 Mark5 STOCK, is better than the A80 Toyota Supra Mark4 STOCK.
The 300ZX was as fast as today's 370Z!! What are you doing Nissan!?
Simple, they took out a pair of turbos. The New 370Z would be as faster if it had the same twin turbo setup. I gave up wondering why they never added the turbos.....
Well, they did bring the Skyline to America.. I know, different category, but still. Twin turbo 6 cylinder nonetheless
At least they made the 300zx look better, in my opinion.
Same goes to Supra. Meanwhile GT-R and NSX took a new level and RX-7 degraded themselves with RX-8.

I had a 94 Supra turbo. It was an amazing car back then.

RWD though.
