Great little video, two somewhat different vehicles with regards to lift and tyres, and so maybe not a truly fair comparison. No disrespect to diesel owners, but honestly the diesel engines in those era Prado's belong in a tractor ploughing a wheat field stuck at 2000rpm for hours on end, not in a 4x4 tackling undulated tracks, their fuel consumption is not the best either, and despite the common claim that diesels are better for towing, the 1kz diesel couldn't pull the skin off a custard. Everyone thinks that diesel is the only way with anything 4x4 related, but very often you need momentum with off road driving, and the old school diesels are hopeless at that. I have driven both a 1kz diesel 4x4 Hilux, and now have a 1grfe (4.0L V6) 120 series Prado, and they are absolutely chalk and cheese, with the V6 proving to be the better, nicer, more capable vehicle in most scenarios. You never honestly buy a big heavy 4x4 with perfect economy in mind, small 4 cylinder cars are for that. I think now more than ever, the age old debate over petrol vs diesel has kind of hit a dead end brick wall. Modern diesels are powerful, very economical, but extremely fragile and require meticulous servicing or very costly failures are inevitable completely annihilating the savings. Modern day petrol engines are not the slugs they used to be, can be reasonably economical if maintained well, can last just as long as diesels, no longer have points, distributors or ignition leads, have torque figures that are decent with VVTI etc, and are great on road and off road, they require basic easy servicing that most people with any nous are capable of, and when you consider most of the driving will not be on serious 4x4 tracks, why have a diesel for the most part? Look on any 4x4 enthusiast youtube channel these days, and you'd be hard pressed to not find a videos in support of petrol 4x4's as the diesel issues keep growing, the fuel prices are no longer cheaper for diesel, the purchase prices are way cheaper for petrol 4x4's allowing people to get into 4x4ing cheaply, and people are indeed reconsidering old school petrol 4x4's because they know they're still kicking along all be it a bit tired, but certainly have no cracked pistons, injector faults, DPF problems, etc etc.
And here I thought you where going to talk about the cost of ownership between both, missed opportunity..... whats your fuel consumption L/100km and are you still running LPG? I had the 2.7 petrol manual, was roughly about 15/100km from what I remember.
I currently live in the UK and I’ve been looking for they’re version called the Colorado. I come across a lot of them but with the diesel engine. I really want the petrol but no luck finding any available at the moment. Should I wait it out until I find a petrol engine or just get a diesel?
Really enjoy your budget approach to making a sick rig. I was wondering if you recon the CVs are getting over worked due to the 3” lift at the front or is it the 35s? Or both. Any insight would be cool. Cheers
I've got the same noise in my prado 90 series. Can you help me figure out what I should fix? Dropping the rear shaft will make the car Fwd. I need the 4wd.
@@BuiltCruisers Thanks for this. A friend and I are always looking for places close to home (in the hills) to practice our off road driving skills. This place looks great for that. Still can't find the 4by one you mentioned in the other video? Did you get the name of that right? Cheers, Sam
Can that v6 be had in manual? Need to import a 96-97 to us. Definitely want to supercharge the v6 with a manual, selling my FJ they're just too overpriced and rare in manual in states that would be ideal with supercharger but Prado is cool too. Want a daily I can rip around in lol

Both need diff lockers I think?
All that expensive mods and no lockers. Turning a 4wd into 0 wd in the first diagonal!
What might be the roof load capacity of the j90 rain gutters?
Is petrol alternator different to a diesel alternator on prado
What brand and model is your bullbar? what type of lift are you using to clear 35s? I have a 1999 Prado and I was told I am not able to clear 35s.
If you want to use it off road, the tires have to be soft, friends, you can't use them in the condition of tires with normal wind..

Th3 sound of petrol v6 or v8 is exotic, i prefer petrol for SUV

Yeah definitely the 35s are over working them
33s would be almost as capable and save the cvs entirely
Diesel or LPG? What do you guys think?
Let's say landcruiser 120 3.0d Vs 4.0lt V6 LPG converted?
at 10.30 its winching time if playing safe

Amazing video, but invest in a diff lock
I love the petrol prado
If diesel is roaring then what is petrol v8's
what’s your fuel consumption like on the Prado petrol with 35s? Mine is stock & they chew fuel! 😬
23L roughly
@@BuiltCruisers23 kmpl? Damn thats insane
I thought these came stock with LSDs?
No argument needed the petrol definitely sounds better
Because the petrol one is 6 cylinder
If it was 4 cylinder then diesel would be better imo
@gnrtx-36969 petrol V6s witg a decent exhaust are killer, hard to beat the low growl of a diesel with a decent exhaust but
No traction control in prado?
Nah
Thinking of going off road without my Prado but after watching thistle I might postpone it
What radios and what antennas are you using?
Mines a 6.0dbi
What’s the price of one of these in AU?
Between 5-15k depending on model
Do you have a sports exhaust on it
no chopped at rear seat
Australian mud is not sweetable for offroadinf😊
Great channel! Quick question…what are your thoughts of Old Man Emu 1.5-2” lift kits? I want something affordable for my 1996 Prado diesel. Thanks!
Yeah they solid
The diesel one definitely more noisy 😅
The same car with me😊
no one wins in this match, did you switch into 4L with center diff lock? there is even a local driver, haha.
Yeah we both were in 4L with center diff lock.
Aha yeah there is
Cool video!
Where in SA is this track
