  • I added a temporary battery to my RV but when I removed the battery everything that worked from 12 volt DC power stopped. Here's what I found was wrong.

    Thank you very much for making this video! We had a problem with our ac to dc converter blowing a fuse and this helped us find it and address the issue. Thank you so much!!

    you are doing it right. Tackle one problem at a time. You will eventually get there. Good to hear you didn't fall for the dealers song and dance. I went through that once or twice.

      It's amazing how many problems this trailer had. I feel bad for the prior owner, if they couldn't do the work themselves and had to rely on the dealer? I think that is why they traded it in. It was not usable for water, power or fridge.

      Yep, and they need to stop using high touch to put in little screws. Everything is stripped out and falling off.

    I have 3 SOK 100AH lithium batteries wired in parallel. I did have to change my inverter/charger to a lithium charger/converter,so far everything is working as it should!

      I am going to go to 300AHs as well. It makes sense to upgrade the charger with that much power.

      Yep, mine has had so many issues in the first year that we wished we had not have purchased it. But now that most everything is fixed, we love it.

    Have a question sir. When I plug my Camper in campground. I have electric for outlets and Fridge.
    I’ve replaced my battery twice or recharge. Then I have lights and Air. Till the battery is dead. And back to recharging the battery. Would you say my converter is bad. When I first bought the camper. I could hear the fan running. But haven’t in awhile.
    I own a Four Winds 36ft 2007 pull Camper. And not sure what converter I need. Would convertor be under my panel box? And help would be appreciated.
    I get off the river (work) in about a week. And plan on trying fix the problem

      It does sound like the converter / charger is bad. You can test it by disconnecting the battery, plug in to shore power and test for 12 volt power at the two battery cables. There should be 12 volt, if nothing, then could be converter / charger or could be fuses like mine was. My converter is behind the wall panel in the storage bag. Should be easy to get to with just a few screws. Good luck.

      @@riderescue I hook shore power up. I have electric and fridge works. But that’s all No Lights or Air Conditioner. I I’ve replaced the battery twice. And the fuses are Good. Is converter and charger two separate devices inside the camper ?

    I just lost power today. I have good power coming out of the meter. I believe my converter just crapped. Lights would get dim, then bright, then dim. Only power I have is outlets. Converter is from 07. Battery was load tested and is still good.

      It does sound like your converter is acting up. Everything 12 volt work from battery when you're not on shore power?

    Enjoyed the vid, isnt it just a shame how crappy they build this stuff?
    I didnt see where you followed up with a vid about converter/charger change for lithium? I am adding a 2-400ah 12 lithium house battery over the lousy lead one, and have a intelipower pd9260C converter charger. Hobotech (great youtube channel) says you are just fine charging up lithium with these chargers no need to buy newer, but they wont top them up100 full ( i have solar that will top them up with mppt controller set to lithium). But, everyone else says no, you must upgrade the converter charger. What did you do and how is it working? Conflicting info out there, and need to do it properly, Cheers, and blue skies.

      Totally agree with how crappy the RV industry has become and the cost is crazy high. I was hearing the same thing about needing to change my non lithium converter. I decided not to change the converter and found it is perfectly fine. With my 165 watt solar on the roof, my 300 ah's of batteries is almost always 100%. When I'm off the grid I add another 200 watt portable panel that serves me fine. Only had one trip with bad weather that caused me to conserve power. Thank you for the comment and thanks for watching.

      Just as an aside, I will be putting in at least 200ah of lithium for the house battery but I also carry a bluetti ac180(had for a year) or 200max (just ordered) with me. It is a great back up power source and can also be used in my house as back up for power out. Seems best of both worlds and redundancy for reasonable spend giving lots of added AH to RV needs Cheers, R @@riderescue

    Wait, you mean you bought it and they never demonstrated to make sure everything was working .....that's you fault dude

    • @riderescue
      @riderescue  9 дней назад

      Yep. I purchased it "as is, no warranty" with a huge savings. And then Camping World managers asked me to sign a form that claimed everything was working on delivery. WTH? The sales manager would not let me inspect it but had the balls to tell me to sign that everything worked? I refused to sign it and then he realized how stupid he was and he wrote "as is" on the signature line. It was 8 months old at the time, I thought, what could go wrong? Well, just about everything that could go wrong did. In the end, Grand Design came through and fixed plumbing, fridge, slide out and more with a free extended warranty.

    My inverter gave off a burning smell, now it turns on but nothing plugged in has power. What could this be?

    • @riderescue
      @riderescue  9 месяцев назад

      Check all the fuses. My converter/charger had three and all three were burnt. If fuses and breakers are okay, check the power going in and out, with a meter.

    My battery isn’t charging when connected to shore. Do you think I have to replace the converter? All my fuses are intact.

    • @riderescue
      @riderescue  10 месяцев назад

      I would start by checking the 12 volt wires coming out of the converter and go from there. Work you way to the battery, checking each connection, breaker or fuse along the way.

      @@riderescue I redid all the connections at the battery terminal include the in-line fuse. I get power when I jump the battery with my truck. But converter doesn’t charge it.
