He's grown so much as an sd! I'm 14 (almost 15) and I'm working with my therapist and my mom to get a phsyciatric service dog, and since we can't afford a program dog, I'm going to be owner training him! Seeing Astro grow has made me feel more confident and less anxious to train my own sd :3

I just found you channel. Can I just say that the closed captions are so nice. I have trouble hearing, and that sometimes makes it super hard to hear people talking in their videos when they are out in public spaces or talking to someone far away. It really helps some people. And also Astro is so cute and he is doing so good in his training. And out of curiosity when will you be getting a vest for him?

I understand that you don’t like the patch so I recommend you buying other patches that you like so people understand that he’s a service dog and that way they don’t have to ask you questions about him. People can just read his vest and understand that he’s a working dog and he’s not there for their attention. He’s there to help you.
that’s what I do with my service dog in training and people seem to be really respectful and it works really well.

At what age did you start training Astro for service ?
And do you have any tips you can share when starting to train a dog for service ?

If you'd have conditioned him to the vest before immediately going to a high-stress environment, maybe he wouldn't be so uncomfortable. For the first few minutes the poor thing was giving you so many stress signals. Lip licking, ears back, shrinking into the corner, whale eyes. And even when you went outside he licked his lips and his ears were right back. Listen to your dog!!

You know that he dashes through your cars front window and dies when he isn't secured as a car crash happens? Just saying because it looked like he just sat there unsecured.
You can drive very good but others can make mistakes as well, our fur babies deserve to be safe! ❤ No hate intended but I see so many dogs unsecured and if it happens it happens and that's a regret nobody wants

Just an FYI different states allow Public Access training in more areas like in Michigan at is been just granted as a 2022 any service dogs. Versus having to wait till after they are finished all her training to go into those areas it can be difficult for the doc to adjustable Darius because you're not put Samilia with them on a daily basis so our government has put into policy three different bills passed as of 2022 to help those like myself with the public access training. Unfortunately we have been meant with people who want to use the outdated policies towards to claim liability and say he's not fully trained cuz if he was his last wouldn't read service dog in training they don't want to update their policies they don't want to respect the new bills that were signed into law and I've also have people judge it based on you know I don't look the same old I'm not physically handicapped so we need you to have them on a leash when at least can interfere with him doing his job my medical condition and can cause dizziness disorientation and falling and that is why I was told by the organization I go through to use a tether or a handle with him. Some places that I normally would go to have never seen me with a service dog and suddenly see me with a service dog and don't know how to react to it and we just started as of nine months of age him going into public access training. As our governments had this allows these dogs to go into the areas establishment that were otherwise band to service dogs in training to only be allowed finished training service dogs in so now we are allowed to go into those areas which is housed me out which is helping my service dog training to move forward their training and adjust to these areas rather than over being dropped into those areas after we finished. I do get people who ask me why are you not leashing your dog and I'm like he's got his handle and a toddler to the handle so it can affect my condition and his tasking so that is why he's not on a leash and they need to respect that unfortunately are people saying and they can judge you based on your parents of whether or not that you qualify to have your dog on a tether or using a handle with the dog over Elise. People run into that a lot and they want to use their store policy over Ada laws and the bills that were just passed. It's awful taking a lot for my mom and dad to get used to going places with me with him because they don't know and they just don't want to look up the information to educate themselves I have to be the one to explain two things to them to understand that this is what this means that what that means based on me doing the private training and me training my dog to be a service dog and through this organization versus had I gotten through it. run into his people who I've seen you in the stores without a service off and somehow you know suddenly they see I have a service dog. And I'm honestly thinking about doing our RUclips log on it because I mean I live in Michigan I don't know where you live but I can stay this there are people who just want to keep with their outdated beliefs and policies over the new ones that have been signed and 1990s and the twenty-first century you know who lost Puttin you know to help people like me getting used to public-access areas that would normally be 4 handlers who've had their service dogs finished training through a facility versus being trained privately and by themselves. I haven't asked you know how is it that your service art doesn't have a vest on a dog must have a vest that's you know I have to educate them on that you know my dog's is a Bernese golden labrador poodle mix who helps me with balance coordination as well as medical alert and PTSD. And if it's really really hot out if he's just so hot I do give room so I do you have my groomer kind of maintain his fur to take it down a little bit so it's more comfortable for him during the summer but I'm like if it's like 95 100° he's not going to wear his collar I do sometimes use but overall you know there are days where I can use a leash and there are days where yet he's going to need to have that mesh vest that is breathable for dogs with lots of fur for service dog so that it's less hot on them when you're out and about in the summer time. I can put this Heather or handle on it quickly. Unfortunately I do get people like at a market outside Market saying or where's your badge on the bus so that states what service are facility you went through and I'm like not all service dogs or fruit waste facility and then you're like well then it can't be legit we want to talk to you and Tatian that you are in training again that's not something they can be asking us not legit for them to be asking they're afraid of liability because you don't look disabled your dog don't look like the normal breed that is registered service dog and their minds type breed. Michigan if you are having to stay overnight for medical surgery with your service dog or dentist work being done and you have a service dog with you they have a right to ask for the Arts script with a documentation from your doctor and or MD for liability and safety purposes for you and your service dog in case you would possibly run into issues with staff or people coming in there trying to hassle Hackle you there so that is something that is a requirement including if you're going to get a place that is rented or a vacation rental property but outside of that they can't ask for that if they are a public business or any establishment that is not Medical or is not a rental place. Laws are different in each state I'm quite aware of that so I've actually been looking into that cuz my boyfriend is from Ohio and he raised from originally from Alabama and we are looking to possibly move out of our state's and back to his home state and I know that doesn't make different rules and guidelines for me and my service dog in training versus up here.

    • @AstroFromTheBlue

Hi! Thanks for your comment! Yeah, the laws should be the same across state lines. Our dogs are so amazing! 🥰
