I'm from France, i've watched a lot of this kind of réaction vidéo and it's incredible to see that everytbody around thé World had the same réaction when they see Michael : everybody loves him.

Amazing song, performance, and purpose.
Harry Belafonte & Ken Kragen (mega talent manager, TV producer, activist & fundraiser) put it together & were in charge. They secured the talent, facilities, staff, etc. Ken contacted Bob Geldof, plus Lionel Ritchie, Kenny Rogers & Kim Carnes (Ken managed all 3), Stevie Wonder & Quincy Jones. Quincy brought MJ on. Harry & Ken then chose Lionel & MJ to write it. Word of the project quickly spread & Ken said he ended up having to turn away dozens of artists. Kenny Rogers owned Lions Share Studios & donated it for the work that was done before & after the "big night."
So many great artist all in one place! The 80’s was a wonderful time for music! All for a great cause!

This was such a big deal when it came out Africa was going through some tough times and the world literally stopped
I remember when it premiered it was incredible
It was for charity - no one received pay. In fact, a sign was posted on the door stating, "Leave Your Ego Outside" and only one artist who was asked to participate did not (Prince demanded a recording studio to himself and was refused). United Support of Artists for Africa (USA for Africa) was the name under which 47 predominantly U.S. artists recorded the hit single "We Are the World" in 1985. The song was a U.S. and UK number one for the collective in April of that year. USA for Africa also held a benefit event, Hands Across America, in which approximately seven million people held hands in a human chain for fifteen minutes along a path across the continental United States. Participants paid ten dollars to stand in line. The combined revenues raised from the sales of "We Are the World" and Hands Across America was almost $100 million which the USA for Africa Foundation used them for the relief of famine and disease in Africa and specifically for the horrifically deadly 1983-1985 famine in Ethiopia

Yes a truly wonderful collaboration of great singers but the reason behind this was a world fundraiser to help Africa when the first draught and famine hit Africa really hard everyone came together to make this masterpiece for charity ❤❤

Great. You should also do a reaction to the other charity singles released @ the time for the cause which was to help in raising funds for the famine in Ethiopia @ the time. There is the UK version titled "Do they know it's Christmas" released in 1984 which laid the ground work for the rest including "we r d world" . There is also the Canadian version called "tears are not enough". There is even a Spanish song titled "cantare cantaras" though I don't think it has an English subtitle. There is also a song you should also react to called "that's what friends are for" done in 1986 to raise money and awareness for AIDS. All these songs are great

David Foster, of Victoria, BC, wanted him to sing for the Canadian effort for African relief but American actress Donna Dixon, and wife of DA, and Quincy Jones convinced him otherwise. Some gentle jabbing that two producer/writer QJ did! They still remain friends! LOL

In a 2009 interview, Dan Akroyd said his involvement was by accident. He & his father were looking for a financial manager. They mistakenly went to a talent manager. When they realized the mistake & were getting ready to leave, the manager (Ken Kragen) asked Dan if he’d like to be a part of the project.
Bob Geldof is listed as a performer too. Did he just play the triangle or something? 🤣 He definitely can't be heard singing, thankfully 😂

@@WineSippingCowboy Thanks for that. Now it makes sense. Knowing what Akroyd said, I've wondered where the "Foster tried to get him, but Quincy convinced him otherwise" came in. Akroyd wasn't "convinced." He'd just already agreed to the USA project.
40 years ago 🎂, David Foster and Quincy Jones worked on the Thriller album. At the end of recording, the 2 went on separate recording projects.
After QJ finished recording We Are the World, he told DF that Bob Geldof needed a supergroup from Canada 🇨🇦 for African relief. DF knew Bryan Adams, Jim Vallance, Loverboy and Prism in the late 1970s and early 1980s up in Vancouver. DF asked their manager Bruce Allen to call up other big names such as Anne Murray, Geddy Lee and Neil Young to pitch in. This was the project that DF wished Dan Akroyd was in. Eugene Levy, Paul Shaffer and the late John Candy came and sang.
The making of Tears Are Not Enough has both the sad and very funny moments. With Candy, Catherine O'Hara and Eugene Levy, they guarantee lots of laughs! L🤣L
