Every penny off of that record (YES! Record! Vinyl!) went to relief for Ethiopia and Somalia. Countries suffering under a horrific famine at the time. The British did something similar with " Do they know it´s Christmas"! Have an ear full of that! Also a great song! Just as heart-breaking, when you know what they did it for!
Do They Know It's Christmas inspired this really, the passing of vocals through the verse even. Though I didn't like DTKIC so much at the time I can see it was a well done song now. I never thought We Are The World was as good, the chorus in particular just lumbers along.

LOL. Dan Aykrold and his accidental "Forrest Gump moment" in musical history.
Dan Aykroyd is the very young man in the back row on the left with the glasses and tie - next to Harry Belafonte. I heard he happened to be walking by and they roped him in. People don't think of him as a singer but just watch him in The Blue Brothers.
Besides for the other fundraisers that you mentioned there was Bandaid, Do They Know it's Christmas and Tears Are Not Enough..
It's somethin when Harry Belafonte joins the younger gen. ❤✊
Day O 🍌🍌🍌
He was even old back then.
Not sure if you know this, remember your video Fanny Be Tender With My Love, it was mentioned that song was Quincy Jones favorite RB song. That Quincy Jones was the man. He is the Choir Director shown in this
You have amazing hair
My wife hates it.
Saludos desde Paraguay.

La canción SOS SLAVC BAZAAR.
Great reaction! Reacted to it myself recently. :) Dan Akroyd was beside Harry Belefonte. 6.01.
Totally doesn’t look like him.
@@jaybrielakoi7747 He was a good bit younger and thinner ofc 🙂
It would be nice if you did a reaction to all the singers in the video who you weren't familiar with to see why the were famous during that time.
Much love to all 💗
How can you not know Steve Perry!!!
yup, it doesn't ring a bell.
Jaybriel Akoi Journey? Don’t Stop Believin’?

@@jaybrielakoi7747 Wow! My grandson knows Journey. Look up their catalog.
I never heard of him before today, and Journey formed the year I was born, I basically never knew they existed, but I've for sure mostly heard of every other person singing on this track, except maybe Al Jerrau. I knew Kenny Loggins name but couldn't have told you what he looked like. There's a few I dont know but other than that I can name nearly everyone, Steve didn't even look familiar to me.
Munkastrap4 As the singer for Journey, you had to at least have heard Don’t Stop Believing, no? It’s a classic to this day. He was known as “The Voice” for male singers as Whitney Houston was for female vocalists. Check out their catalog!
I saw Dan Aykroyd. He was on the back row. It was a great cast of Stars for a good cause!
The Flower 🌹
Band Aid "Do They Know It's Christmas Time" was the UK version in 1984 and in 1985 the US version was released. But the UK version was the first charity band.
There is a theatre version, as well, which is great fun.

Sir------------1985, in response to the famine in Eastern Africa. ------------Quincy Jones produced, arranged, & decided just WHO would be inging any solo vocals. He was one of the very few men EVERYONE TRUSTED, SO IT WAS UP TO HIM, TO CHOOSE. Written by Lionel Richie, Michael jackson, & Rod Temperton. -------------The single 45 went " triple platinum" in 2 weeks------------Wolfsky9, 74 y/o
This song tests most people generationally. "Who is that?" [smile] There is also the Haiti version 25 years after this one which has a different list of performers and a great bridge featuring great rap artists.
Dan Akroyd has glasses on standing next to Harry Belafonta he sang DAY O (THE BANANA BOAT SONG} DAYLIGHT COMING AND ME WANNA GO HOME
Dan Aykroyd: At about 4:19 into _the_ video (or 5:59 into _your_ video) while the chorus is singing, look for a shot of three people in the back of the group, but directly in front of the "USA for Africa" banner, two men in back, one woman in front. The guy on the left with the tie and glasses is Dan Aykroyd, the guy with the grey sweater holding his right hand on his headphones is Harry Belafonte and the woman with the glasses is one of the Pointer Sisters (I don't know which, if someone could help me there, I'd appreciate it).
THAT"S DAN AKROYD!? I mean I can believe it but he looks kinda skinny.
@@jaybrielakoi7747 Hard to believe, ain't it? I didn't recognize him at first, either. My first reaction was pretty much the same as yours.
Dang, the good part of reactions to this song is seeing the reactors name the artists they recognise as they watch. No fun seeing the list before you react lol.
Your daughter must be hearing good music all day, no autotunes.
Ya, she does. I played music till a little after college and her mother was. A music major as well. That being said it’s so hard to make it in music.
@Trevon Womack This wasn't the 90s though. This was the 80s.
Muy buena reacción, feliz año
Over $100 million raised and still counting. So cool.
Awesome ending.
The ending made my day.
Too cute.
Bruce Springsten ! My favourite
Tons of stars here.
Dan Aykroyd was there he was on the Top Row standing next to Harry Belafonte
Soo cute!,
I don't like percussion but I hope she does percussion. It'd be so cool to have small tiny daughter rocking it on the drums.
Very nice job. I’d recommend you try the 2nd release 25 years later, again with an all star cast. Look for We are the World 25 for Haiti.
@6:01 that’s Dan Akroyd against the wall with glasses and looks like a name badge of some kind. Your daughter is so cute!
Doesn’t looks like him to me.
Quincy Jones was directing the singers.

The world has, sadly, changed so much since then.
ya, I'm sad that we don't have stuff like this anymore. You'd think Beyonce would just get EVERYONE. together and get something like this done. Especially now with Covid.
If you like this you should check out do they know it's Christmas by Band Aid, it was a British version of all the big bands getting together to raise money for Africa and is probably where the American version got it's idea to do this
Was gonna say the same thing!!!
Beautiful girl of yours
Dan Akroyd was in back standing by Harry Belafonte.
doesn't even look like him.
@@jaybrielakoi7747Dan Akroyd did singing in a movie.
I think Madonna should have participated and sang with Cyndee Lauper. They were the rebellions of the 80's at that point of time.
Quincy Jones produced Jackson's Thriller album.
Kindly check the artists in the song and react to them one by one because it is worth it. They all amazing.
Dan aykroyd was in the movie The blues Brothers at the time
Every singer in this is a legend. You need to go through it and find out who each one is. The 1st one you knew was about 5 in. You missed Stevie Wonder, Lionel Richie (1st up), Paul Simon (Simon and Garfunkel), Kenny Rogers, James Ingram, Tina Turner, she was the 1st one you knew, Billy Joel, Michael Jackson you knew(thats 2 of 7), Diana Ross of the Supremes, Dionne Warwick, Willie Nelson, Al Jarreau, Bruce Springsteen, Kenny Loggins, Steve Perry of Journey, Daryl Hall of Hall and Oats, Huey Lewis, Cindi Lauper, Kim Carnes, Bob Dylan, Ray Charles, there are others who didn't do solos like Harry Belafonte, Bette Midler etc., etc. There is decades and decades of the best of the best. You need to research your subject. Even the conductor was Quincy Jones for goodness sake. The best you can do with your lack of knowledge on something like this is say you liked it or you didn't. That's it.
Yup def lacking in knowledge. But, that’s the point of my channel. It’s to catch up. I got decades of videos to do my friend. Don’t worry by the time I feel comfortable saying I know the 60~80s I’ll be far behind on Ofher oldies.
Quincy Jones is a legend in the music world. He's won twenty-seven Grammy awards as a musician, producer and arranger. That number ties him with Alison Krauss as the most awards for a living artist. He was probably the only person who could have dealt with the star power and logistics and pulled this masterpiece off.
And yes, your daughter is totally adorable.
Very relevant. There is a interesting Making of We Are The World on RUclips. Getting everything together. The UK Band Aid song Do They Know It is Christmas is good. The Haiti song (from 2015?) is also quite good.
Can you imagine the caravan of limos pulling up to the studio!
Lol, tons and tons of em.
Fun Fact: Bruce Springsteen drove a pickup truck to this event.
@@MissLadyG99 How cool! Thanks!
@@jimfrederick3907 You are welcome. If you haven't had a chance to see the behind the scenes for this event you should check it out. It is about an hour long and in my opinion adds even more context to the song and the video. ruclips.net/video/Sqprpo6GJjE/видео.html
