As a programmer, the only issue I ever had with Minecraft is that any entity that has the possibility to create more entities faster than it is destroyed will become essentially a "fork bomb" [fork being a function to split a process into two processes with memory allocated to them] over a logarithmic function with a coefficient that increases with the rate of reproduction. The game got better at freeing memory over time, but it used to be able to crash my Linux machine with regularity and it was no lightweight for the day. It's weird being the gamer dad of an adult 20-something gamer and a teen gamer. My first console was an Atari 2600 and my first computer was a Texas Instruments TI-99/4a.

@@hexxin The Pizza Hut in my hometown had the flat-top Asteroids and Pac-Man as tables when I was young. The greasy spoon burger joint had a game room and pool table, as did the laundromat. Nothing fancy except the burger place had the Journey [band] video game that played a rousing 8-bit version of "Don't Stop Believing" and I want to emulate on MAME as the Atari 2600 version is entirely different graphics. My first computer had cartridge programs [Texas Instruments TI-99/ 4A] and I remember playing "Hunt the Wumpus" and learning to program BASIC which came in handy when I got my Apple IIc. Before it closed, the laundromat got Super Punch-Out which the SNES did not do justice to the coin-op. Ferrari vs Fiat on that one. It's weird, you have photorealistic full motion video games that don't require quarters and skateboarding isn't treated like heroin addiction. I never quit gaming, and I picked up skating again during the pandemic. Old bastards unite!! 🤣

I really can't understand Destiny's gripe with doing away with private health insurance. He never presents an argument for private insurance providing any sort of utility that would be lost under M4A, he just thinks it's too far of a leap from where we are now, and so therefore it's somehow bad. That makes zero sense; if private insurance is bad, then we should absolutely be trying to get rid of it, not keeping it around just because it's what we're used to.
In Norway, where we have a really good public healthcare, there has been a lot of waiting lines for referrals to specialist, different unimportant procedures etc. Private healthcare fills a role here in that people who can afford to pay can get the procedure done outside of the public system, which actually decrease waiting lines overall. There is a lot of debate on where to draw the line of course, and with a conservative (Norwegianly speaking) government, there is an increase in private options and in people having private healthcare, often paid for by an employer. i would say that it fills a role and that it is okay, even benefitial all in all, as long as it does not diminish quality of the public healthcare.
@@corpusalienum2665 I can understand that. And as far as I've seen, wait times are the best argument for keeping some private health insurance around. But the thing is, we can still have some pretty gnarly wait times for procedures here in the US (unless you have the money for a great plan) while still having way worse outcomes overall, so we don't even always get that benefit. I'm not sure it's a good enough reason not to at least fight for a robust single payer system that drastically reduces or eliminates the profit motive.

@@IMatchoNation Could be different reasons. Some like the freedom to create their own business, decide their own hours, be their own boss. Some are probably doing it because of profit, or because they can administer their own work hours. Lots of reasons I suppose.
Private insurance isn't bad though, it's just bad alone. No healthcare economist will tell you to abolish private insurance. Private insurance can remove strain from the public system and give everyone better healthcare. The trick is to force the wealthy to pay into the public system through taxes, they can then purchase private insurance of a higher quality than the public service if they so desire usually the higher quality just represents shorter wait times on elective surgeries. This can decrease wait times in the public system while also improving health outcomes for the private insurance buyers. The thing is this only works with a universal care system, the rich people have to also pay into the public system or it will all fall apart.
I’m so glad destiny had a professional campaigner. I’m a Campaign Field Director in AZ and destiny has been having bad take after bad take on leftist issues because he doesn’t understand the nature of campaigns and campaigning.
Also he doesn’t realize Biden is winning in the polls because pollsters survey likely voters and Bernie’s support comes a lot from people who usually don’t participate.

I've watched destiny debates for a few months and this is the first one I've seen that he honestly lost. The affirmative debate argument is that Bernie appeals better to the most voters.

Destiny, this guy is terrible. Please don't have him back. Every time he wanted to say something he wheedled at you to stipulate to the position he was planning to argue against. You never even stated your beliefs/positions. You just said ok repeatedly so he would go. The guy talked about how smart he was and how much he knows everything. I'm surprised he's involved in public political life given how entirely socially inept be was trying to be right by simply bowling over with you as if you'll become overwhelmed and believe whatever he tells you. Please never again.

Something akin to the ban on duplicate coverage in Bernie's plan may actually be necessary - that is even with a parallel private system in-place. By creating a default "virtual monopsony" it mainly allows for a somewhat efficient and predictable price setting mechanism that is not subject to various exploits the insurance industry could otherwise run against it, i.e. its primary aim is not necessarily to make supplemental private insurance impossible. Regulation like this could still leave plenty of room for differentiated additional policies - for example covering single-bedroom accomodation during hospital visits, treatment using non-standard or "alternative" medicine, all sorts of non-default preventative diagnostics / specialized care and so on. So interpreting this provision as a "ban on private insurance" might be a bit premature (or even misguided)...
