Peter’s entire approach to the “ground rule” was a giant reframing just to gaslight destiny. He just kept repeating the defense as if it was evidence of destiny using big words, when it was literally the opposite.

I listen to lots of these Destiny debates, and I don't get the big words accusation. I have literally never thought Destiny used an abundance of big words. Is the general audience so dumb that they think he is? I feel like he has always been incredibly clear with every point he makes, even when I don't totally agree with him.
Yeah his vocabulary is pretty standard but there's an awful lot of people with a substandard vocabulary. It's not their fault but it's more common than you'd expect. It's partly because you can get by with a pretty small vocabulary and society tends not to encourage that kind of learning. It does no one any favours as it limits people's capacity to express themselves and encourages elitism and ego stroking in those that have wider vocabularies.

I've been trying to watch this video for about 45 minutes now, but I'm only 6:30 in because I have to pause every time Peter opens his mouth. It's important to be able to learn and reflect about where you were years ago. Peter was a bad advocate years ago, and these debates were the first crack in the facade
Coffin was obviously getting emotional in this video but I wanna counter the point Destiny made about climate change being too multi-faceted to just be handled by a binary democratic approval. Unless Destiny thinks people would do absolutely nothing to mitigate climate change or the problem is even more extremely urgent than it already is considering the IPCC report. Democracy is in favour of mitigating it with at least a small carbon tax. Slowing down the negative effects of climate change will at least give people the time to see the negative effects materialize and that will change even more minds about what sacrifices need to be made for the climate and it'll slowly dissolve the propaganda and lobbying of fossil fuel companies which muck up the democratic process. We should be looking to educate, minimize corporate propaganda and power and get rid of obstacles to democracy like gerrymandering rather than blaming democracy.

Yeah his vocabulary is pretty standard but there's an awful lot of people with a substandard vocabulary. It's not their fault but it's more common than you'd expect. It's partly because you can get by with a pretty small vocabulary and society tends not to encourage that kind of learning. Coffin was obviously getting emotional in this video but I wanna counter the point Destiny made about climate change being too multi-faceted to just be handled by a binary democratic approval.
Unless Destiny thinks people would do absolutely nothing to mitigate climate change or the problem is even more extremely urgent than it already is considering the IPCC report. Democracy is in favour of mitigating it with at least a small carbon tax. Slowing down the negative effects of climate change will at least give people the time to see the negative effects materialize and that will change even more minds about what sacrifices need to be made for the climate and it'll slowly dissolve the propaganda and lobbying of fossil fuel companies which muck up the democratic process. We should be looking to educate, minimize corporate propaganda and power and get rid of obstacles to democracy like gerrymandering rather than blaming democracy.

Wow that escalated quickly! Really shows how valuable the "debate"-format is. And also how great it is that we can only discuss serious issues through "comedy".
The only way a debate could work, I think, would be with (1) a live team of fact-checkers (2) a moderator that raises every logical fallacies (3) both debaters share the aim that they wish to broaden their understanding of the subject.
In reality, virtually every debates just serve to show off the debaters' intellectual vivacity, which *is* entertaining, but that's about everything you get out of them.
