- I’m stuck on vlog ideas, but I also got my hands on the brand new new Sony FX30 Cinema Line Camera - before it was officially released to the public today!
I’ve never used a Cinema Camera before so this could go very wrong… or Sony could have helped me get back in the vlogging game.

no! Sony give me the camera! :) I'm loving these Tam!
Haha - I'll fight you for it! Glad you're enjoying them.
Same. Work full time and I have a kayak fishing channel. Lots of times I am off but the weather doesn’t work well to be out on the lakes and fishing. Awesome content. Keep it up.
Thanks so much! Yeah, when you work full time it's so hard to pick and choose the days you film. Thanks for the support and good luck with your channel. I guess we could always invest in a GoPro and just film in the rain... ;)
Nice, please shoot in 4k if you can, that camera and lens would love it
Very good I enjoyed this .. Your new Sony is great definitely better... good LUCK ❤
Well done. Good vlog. I’m the same, working full time and sometimes struggling for time & good weather to get out there. Just went a month between videos myself. I think just do what you can when you can. Oh and Sony should let you keep that camera for demo videos. Safe travels 😜👍
Thank you. Yeah, it's such a big job when you work full time. I like your advice - do what you can when you can. As long as you're enjoying yourself, hey.
@@vanlifeshots Definitely. That’s all that matters 😃👍
Nice
Very nice video, could you share what exact settings you used on the fx30?
Not sure if the settings I used would be most helpful for you... This was the first time I picked up a cinema camera ;)
Hi Tam! I just wanted to say that your video was wonderful! Your style of shooting and wealth of information was great. I learned a ton. If you are in the market for ND filters, I use the "Polar Pro Peter McKinnon Edition Variable ND 6-9 Stop Filter" and it has been working great. Since your are on the go and filming beautiful locations, a variable ND could be a nice solution so your not having to constantly screw on fixed ND's while traveling. Your channel is awesome! Instant Subscriber here woot woot! :)
Thank you! That's so nice to hear. Appreciate the recommendation on the filter, definitely sounds like the one I should use.
I am curious which picture profile you used for Zv1 and fx30? The colors look nearly identical. How do you color grade the footages? Thanks.
But quality of the fx30 is ahead of the ZV1 by millions of miles
Thanks, that's a nice compliment. To be honest I have the Picture Profile switched off on the Zv1. I'm a Graphic Design and ex photographer so have been matching colours for years. I do all my colour grading by eye within Premiere Pro
Great into to the camera. The image certainly looks great in HD and the audio was much better when you switched to the FX30, was that it's built in mic or were you using an external unit?
Yes, I didn't mention it in the video but I was using internal mics on both cameras to see the difference. The FX30 was so much clearer - has such a great built in mic.
@@vanlifeshots This is good to hear. Most internal mics have horrible sound but that sounded good. How well did the autofocus work? I noticed you were using a full frame lens, which would make the camera a bit heavier, did they not provide any APSC lens? That said, how did it feel using that lens Ned the top handle? I’m. Nikon shooter but am now doing a lot of video. My Z6II tend to lose focus during talking head videos, which is annoying and I wished the IBIS worked better. Can’t complain about the image quality though. Are you considering upgrading to this camera when it goes on sale?
@@waynerm002 No lens came with the loan camera. I had to borrow one. Yeah, it definitely was a lot heavier than my usual set up. Holding the camera out in front vlog style was hard to keep steady - but as you said that was due to the weight in the lens. The Sony focus is brilliant. It locks on to your eye and follows you wherever you move. Even the scene shots were easy to focus by touching the screen. Super sharp. Definitely considering the upgrade.
Hello , Thanks for your sharing.
Do you think it's too heavy for girls?
I don't mind the price but zv-e10 is lighter.
Could you also share about your lens and microphone?
The FX30 is not heavy at all. It all depends on what lens you choose - my lens was a heavier one so that's why I struggled. I was using the G Master 16-35mm f2.8 lens. With Microphones I used both cameras internal mics - you could really noticed the difference with how much better the FX30 mic was. Good luck, I hope this helps you out :)
Hey Alina, let me share my experience too. I use the Sony A7C with Sony 20mm 1.8/F and the Sony ECM-B10 microphone. I only do outdoor videos, so I want low weight and good quality video. While the FX30 is heavier than the A7C, the 20mm lens and B10 microphone are considered light. They will both work really well with the FX30. The G Master lens used in the video is heavy!
👍🏻
Klasse gemacht gefällt mir außerordentlich gut Best Regards from Germany LG.Pidi
Thank you!
*If you feel unmotivated I'd watch a channel called Channel Makers, also I'd watch Think Media also. I'm going to get the FX30 because I was going to get the A7C but this is an upgrade from my a6400 & Since All I care about is Video and not so much with Photo as I have a ZV-1 for my Photos. Nice Vlog.*
Thanks I'll check out Channel Makers. I'm a fan of Think Media already. Good choice with the FX30 purchase, I think you'll love it so much more than the A7C
@@vanlifeshots I think I will also.
Did you get the FX30? A few thoughts for you. I am video only. I don't color grade, I don't need 10-bit video, or S-Cinetone. The Sony A7C is full frame. The camera delivers high quality video and I love the low light performance. The A7C is 509 g and FX30 is 646 g. All my video is outdoors, so weight matters too.
@@CoachBay same price as the A7C plus I don't need to buy new sets of lens for Full Frame when the lens I own are APS-C plus I want to learn to color grade and this being my End All Camera's for me until I need to go beyond...but this will work for me for years to come
@@BlackapinoTheTechGuy Yep. That makes perfect sense. And yes, the FX30 does rock. Enjoy!
Yes, vlog with xlr handle
For wedding how easy this .suggest me i am from india where a wedding takes 3 4 days of shooting
This would be such a great camera to film an Indian Wedding. I've never been to one, but I imagine you would get such great cinematic footage with this camera. It's great for a beginners set up. Good Luck!
@@vanlifeshots thanks .if u come india then if you like u can join an indian wedding .
What lens do you have on it?
I used the Sony 16-35mm f2.8 G Master Lens
Hey, congrats. Great setup. Now you have to learn about how to use it. 1/320 F/4.5 and ISO 5000 in a day time is a totally wrong set. I'm here to help. Feel free to reach me out. Good luck!
Thanks. Sharp eye! I only used those settings while I was in the van, it was pretty dark and I was trying to match the brightness of the ZV-1. Outside I used completely different settings.
@@vanlifeshots Please, consider that English is not my first language. I just want to help. Yeap, my commentary is about that indoor situation. Inside the van. You can get the same brightness setting 1/50, F/2.8 and ISO 320, if you usually record at 24FPS. I you record 60FPS, 1/125, F/2.8 and ISO 800 ... Of course, the most important thing in a video is the content, but, take advantage, once you have a great camera. Please don't get me wrong. Again, I just want to help. I'm subscribing to your channel. Wish you the best!
@@brunomamede2352 Ahh, good tip. Thank you. Yes I bumped up the fps when I filmed my b roll. As I said, I am still learning video and cinema cameras, but I appreciate your advice
@@vanlifeshots I really like your channel. Your content is really good, and I wish the best for you.
you need to buy some variable nd filters
Good tip. Unfortunately I didn't get filters in the loan box, but if I owned this camera I would definitely get them.
@@vanlifeshots good you can also get them with step down rings so they can be used with any size lens

I really don’t think the fx30 is for blogging there are better options
Blogging, no - but it is a really great entry level cinema camera for Vlogging. There are definitely better cinema cameras out there, but this one is a great start for those that want to step up to pro filmmaking
@@vanlifeshots I meant vlogging and I don’t think it’s wise for anyone to buy this camera for vlogging. It’s a profesional cinema camera and there are just better options for vlogging
@@emanrandom121 which cameras are better optionsfor vlogging?
@@alinazhuang904 Sony zv 10 Sony a6400 Sony a6100 Sony a6300 Sony a6600 but not the fx30
@@emanrandom121 I was also considering about zve10.
But I thought fx30 is better
