FX30 vs ZV E10 vlogging test

- Okay, not the best use of the FX30 since I don't quite know half of the features. I'm using it exactly like how I use the ZV-E10, but even with the limited time with it (This is literally my first test) I'm already loving it. Right now I'm using Cine2 for both cameras but I want to try using SLog3. Also very excited about s-cinetone. I love the 4K60 and 4K120. I also love that it crops in a lot less in active stabe and you don't get that weird jello effect. It's still a bit shaky but not jello like. :)
Seeing the footage side by side I have to say they really look similar. One thing I personally notice (what others probably don't) is the rolling shutter. On the FX30 it is so much better and this is the only annoying thing when I use my ZV E10 when I walk around with my daughter catching family moments. I hope Sony will upgrade their APSc line up this year and perhaps this FX30 sensor will make it's way to that line up. Because me to find that extreme crop in active stab mode annoying, but I love the that active mode :')
Keep up your great work and spirit!
Thank you! Mind you, this was the first time I took my FX30 out so I wasn't too familiar with all of its features. You're right though about the rolling shutter. Good eye. The crop and rolling shutter are terrible on the ZVE10. Unusable at times. The FX30 fixes all of that.
Enjoyed watching this - thanks! No complaints with my ZV-E10
Thank you :) ZV-E10 might be the best bang for buck in the history of cameras lol. I really feel this is true.
I been debating on getting the fx30 and upgrading from my zve10. Thanks for the video
I want to do a deeper review of the FX30. There's a lot I didn't say here that I think a lot of people should know. Thanks for the comment and watch :)
Do it. You won't regret it. The FX30 gives you SO many more choices than the ZV-E10. There are tons of videos on RUclips to show you how to get the most out of it. You can shoot your YT videos with it. And you can shoot a feature film that can be shown on a theater screen. And for the price, you really can't beat it. Plus, you can use your lenses that you have for you ZV-E10 on it. The possibilities are only limited by your imagination. I am happier every time I shoot with my FX30. It's a great camera.
Excellent samples from the FX30. Nice color grading, too. Subscribed.
Thank you :)
I filmed without a gimbal on my zve10 and the jellowing and jitter was pretty bad with active stabilization enabled. I'll definitely have to use a gimbal on my next outing. Would love to have an fx30 though...
Yep. That old sensor can't handle movement well.. Shoot without stability enabled and stabilize it in catalyst browse. I think you will be amazed. Also, yeah, The FX30 is pretty much damn near perfect. Learning curve is a little steep though.
hi whats your lens in this video ans settings please ? I will get this camera.
Great camera! I'm either using the 11mm Sony or the 15mm Sony here. I can't remember which exactly. My video settings for this was cine2 and I used a lut to color correct it. I can't remember which lut though :P
I've always wondered how places with a dozen boba tea 🇺🇸 do with so many competitors and that doesn't include restaurants that sell them too
I wonder the same haha
The jello is due to the rolling shutter. The FX30 is much better. People complain about it still, but honestly it is a huge improvement.
I think the rolling shutter control on the FX30 is amazing, but then again, all I do is vlog so I'm not pixel peeping as I would if I was shooting a music video or any paying gig.
Nice. I got a kick out of your written commentary! I'm a little jealous of your FX-30 but the ZV-E10 held up well. What lens were you using on each?
Haha! Written commentary is a great way to cover up mistakes. I normally only do one takes so I need all the help I can get. ZV-E10 surprised me as well! Like wow! I even though some of the images coming out of it were better than the FX30. FX30 is a little too sharp sometimes. I'm using the 11mm Sony F1.8. I'm eyeballing the 15mm f1.4 but I probably shouldn't since these two lenses are pretty similar :P
@@noisackda2564 I thought it was that lens with the angle but wasn't sure. I agree! No time for more than one take! Interesting about the sharpness. Did you remember to turn the detail down to -7 on the profile you're using? I have done that before.
Nice little video buddy..good to see someone keeping it real👍
Thank you. Sony doesn't pay me so I can be as unbiased as I want :P
Bro, awesome comparison video. I like to see videos like this done, very simple for the average person to understand, without all the B.S fluff. I’m currently on the fence trying to decide should I get the FX30 to pair with my FX3. Currently using my ZV-E10 as a b-cam, just wanted to see how much of a difference it is, or what I’m missing by not having the FX30.
Thank you man. I'm the same as you. Unfortunately, a lot of influencers are sponsored so they are required to mention all the BS. Either this or they are trying too hard to sound knowledgeable. I get it though. It's important to outline facts in a detailed manner, but for me, it all begins to sound the same. As far as which camera to choose. I think if you have the FX3 it's pretty clear that the FX30 makes the most sense. They are pretty much the same camera only the FX30 is obviously an APSC camera. I'm jealous you have the FX3 my man haha.
@@noisackda2564 yeah bro I feel ya on that for sure. It all does sound the same after awhile lmao.. I typed in a search for FX30 vs ZVE10 and after scrolling down a bit I found your video. Keep in mind I had to skip over known camera/tech influencers that I didn’t even bother watching their video because I already know what I’m getting with them. Camera brand ambassadors automatically get ignored and no look at all. Lol.
Man I just wish the FX30 came out before the FX3, or I would’ve had that.. lol. Only got the FX3 because my A7C was a disappointment in regards to the crappy IBIS, and no 4k60. Then the A7S3 was always sold out, so I settled for the FX3, which was the best decision I didn’t even know…. The FX3 reminds me of a car that requires “premium gas”… the GM lens, and SD cards runs the maintenance price up… lol.
Only got the ZVE10 because my A6100 is ancient now.
@@thecoloradotravelers7212 Ah makes sense. Funny enough, I was going to get the A7C but then the FX30 came out. Luckily I waited, but I'm still envious of the FX3. I love my FX30 but a full-frame sensor has so many advantages. Perhaps one day. I also got the ZVE10 to replace an old a6500 :)
How’s color matching with the two cameras? I’m thinking of picking up the zve10 as a B cam to my fx30
The colors match pretty well if you shoot with the same picture profiles. For instance I wouldn't shoot HLG for one and SLOG3 for the other.
@@noisackda2564 Thanks, I’ll pull the plug on them then. 👍🏻
Was this a 10bit recording? I'm just wondering why the sky was blown out, or maybe the footage was not adjusted in post?
I actually don't remember what I did here lol. This was my first time with the camera. As always though. I don't mind overblown highlights as long as my face is exposed properly :P
Bit depth doesn't increase dynamic range. All bit depth does is give you more totality to adjust colours without breaking. The FX30 only has about 11+ stops of usable dynamic range so it isn't surprising. Inside a car + outside window is pretty tough for most cameras. If you really need the dynamic range, you'll need to go up to the BMPCC6K (13 stops) or Fuji XH2S (14 stops) where they have higher real usable dynamic range.
Damn i like this tone,🔥🔥🔥
Thank you!
The skin looks more quality and "cinematic" in FX30. But zve-10 did also did a very great job. BTW, the tough guy face is so funny🤣
LOL because I'm tough.
@@noisackda2564 Haha. I believe it.
@@KEKEXINXIN HAHAHAHAHA
Thank you for sharing! Greetings from Canada! Wish you have a nice weekend!😃😃🍁🍁👍👍✅✅💯💯
What lens nd filter are you using? and mic? Please. It's good quality. I bought the fx30 as well.
Did you ditch your tamron 11-20mm
Lens is Sony 11mm f1.8. nd filter is the K&F Concept nano-X 55mm ND2-ND400. Mic is Sony ECM-W2BT Mic.
Sold the Tamron but i have serious regrets :(. Turns out 10-20mm at f2.8 is very nice to have.
@@noisackda2564 why did you sell it!?! I just bought one after your review.
I like the bokeh and sharpness of the 1.8 though.
Finally, found someone who uses the Cine profile for comparison. This is the only usable profile on the zv e10, because the standard profile is too contrasty, and hlg and s-log are just not suitable for 8-bit. Even worse, most of them just put contrast and saturation on log, which is fundamentally wrong and gives incorrect colors.
I've never been able to get either s-log nor HLG to work properly with this camera. I can get somewhat close but why bother? It takes so much effort. Cine2 is the only PPF that I've found to be quick and easy to get a pleasing image from. Going to be honest, I'm not great at color correcting but the fact that I can get something nice from Cine PPF is saying a lot. Thanks for the comment.
S-log yes, but since when HLG is not suitable for 8-bit? that is not what i hear, i am use HLG3 with my zve10 and zv1. all the big pro on YT suggest hlg for 8bit.
@@MachMa You're right. I've never been able to get HLG to work for me but I think that has more to do with it being too saturated for me. All a matter of preference, but yes, you're right. HLG is great for 8 bit.
@@noisackda2564 i use leeming lut too with HLG3, the color is profect.
i missed something. What lens are You using?
Good question haha. Looks like the 11mm f1.8 from Sony.
@@noisackda2564 11 is pretty wide to be useful for shooting anything else than yourself
@@PremiumMotoTV I agree with this actually. Self vlog and real estate. Also landscape and astrophotography. For general photgraphy or cinema it isn't great.
Great job! Thank you . . .
Thank you Sir :)
Honestly really hard to tell the difference even on a 38" monitor.
True haha!
For the price that zve10 looks very close to that 1800 dollar camera. With a gimbal and lens you in the game
It's an amazing value-to-quality proposition for sure.
The best bro..
Thanks bro
How much heavier is the fx30 than zve10 when vlogging is the much of a weight difference?
I would say it's much heavier but it doesn't make a difference haha. It's hard to explain. At no point do I feel like, OMG! My arm is going to fall off!
Good video man! FX30 looks crispy but not a huge difference, I'm surprised! But that 4K60 and 120 definitely makes it worth it!
Also digging the coat ahah hope you have a nice week!
Thanks, my dude. FX30 is pretty awesome. Aside from the obvious, there are things about it that I really like, like more physical buttons to help you get to where you need to go quicker, but the ZV-E10 is a beast at 4K 24p. If you only shoot this way then no need for an upgrade. With that said!!!!! 4K 60 and 120 baybay!!!!! Also yeah I love this coat haha. Thanks again.
I understand your pain, I had to lie to myself saying the fx30 footage was better than my a6500 but it not they are the same 😢 then I thought about 4k 60 and became happy I bought it lol .
It's crazy though. I've been shooting a lot more with the FX30 and there are huge differences in IQ. I switched from shooting with PPF to shooting in the Cine EI mode and everything I do on it looks like cinema-quality stuff. It's pretty insane actually. It's just not something that's obvious at first, but the more you dig in to the FX30, the more you realize it is on a totally different league.
@@noisackda2564 I’ve just tried and it’s amazing, I was using picture profiles because that’s what I’m use to but cine ei has a higher quality 🫢
@@boomboombaby9140 Right?!?! Just shoot a lot with it and you will be happy. Learning so much with it and it has actually made me a better videographer. Also, the rolling shutter control is rock solid in the FX30 making the footage look much cleaner.
@@noisackda2564 I’m a videographer and when a artist pay top dollar or have an open budget I rent a red and the fx30 cine EI is producing the same type of quality that I was getting with the red . I was going to use the fx30 to film music videos for artists that can’t afford to pay much and just rent a red for major work but now I think I can do it all with the fx30 .
@@boomboombaby9140 O_o! Nice! I really do think the FX30 can do it all. It struggles a bit in low light but the footage is definitely still very usable. All the best in 2023 sir.
Awesome video, just subscribed
Thank you so much!
Awesome video! Did you stabilize in post at all? Honestly it looks damn good for handheld! Going to Detroit Friday so Saturday or Sunday I should have something new I'm hoping.
Nice! Are you going to the city? I would love to see the city. Capture some good shit. Funny enough, I just relied on active for both cameras here. ZV-E10 is jello-like while the FX30 is rock solid. I have never tried to stabilize FX30 footage before because that requires me to buy catalyst prepare. I find the FX30 very natural while handheld. Gives it a more authentic look but definitely not gimbal-like.
@@noisackda2564 yeah I'm going to the city. I'll try to get some awesome footage. I live about an hour west of Detroit.
@@jakenotfromstatefarm Nice! Can't wait to see it! One day I would like to visit. I'm not too far. Like four hours away.
@@noisackda2564 oh wow that would be awesome!
@@noisackda2564 The jello of the ZV-e10 (and all A-series cameras prior) are using a slow sensor. That sensor can only read 24fps only in 4k, for example. It's a slow-reading sensor. And that's why you see the jello: each line of the sensor's photons are read at a different time. While faster sensors are reading the lines faster, so the jello is there, but not very visible, unless you move the camera too much.
When lens are you using and are you using some sort of mist filter?
I'm using the Sony 11mm f1.8. I'm not using a mist filter. I like to shoot with detail cranked all the way down :)
@@noisackda2564 thanks, it's a nice lens
Фикс стоит в 3 раза дороже ну конечно шевельнут там меньше жалко что у нее шевели-ка у zv e 10 но я ее возьму думаю она мне более чем подойдет
It's a really nice lens. Just heavy
Which lense can i put on my ZVE10 to get the wide look like on the FX3 ? Any effective way to prevent the crop by changing lenses?
What are you planning to shoot? I can advise you on some lenses based on this.
@@noisackda2564 That would be awesome. Would like to shoot 4k music vids occasionally. Travel Vlogs and take a few photos.
@@highermusic111 I would go with the Sony 15mm F1.4. It has a very full-frame look to it. Pretty much anything with an F1.4 is going to be great, but the 15 is pretty wide. It's essentially a 22mm full frame. If you need something wider then the Sony 11mm f 1.8 is a good choice but I find it's so wide that it loses a little of that pop that the 15 has. For photos and general travel, I really like the Sigma 18-50mm. It's a very good all-around lens that's small and easy to put on a gimbal.
@@noisackda2564 You are amazing ! Thank you so much ! Please keep this comment here for a bit so I can save your advice in my notes after work . ❣👌🔥
Zv e10 and fx3 has no comparison brother 😢. Zv e10 is the cheapest camera and in that price range its best. But fx3 is just too much expensive and pro camera so quality will also be best so
Agree 100% but the ZV-E10 for this price is insane. I'm just learning how to use the FX camera and it is indeed much much better :)
