Sony 16-25mm F/2.8 : Like a GM lens but cheaper and smaller!
Hey guys,
I bought this lens a while ago and have been using it as my default lens. I can pretty much sell all of my other lenses now it's so good. This video was super unstable because of a camera malfunction. I'll upload another vlog I shot in the fall soon which is more accurate to how this lens performs. Thanks for watching :)

I wanted to test whether the iPhone is a viable replacement for my Sony cameras as a primary camera for vlogging. On the one hand, it's very convenient and lightweight but at the expense of quality. I'm not sure it's worth it. I may use it as a B-cam and maybe a gym cam because it's more discrete. For those who don't care too much about quality, I think it's a good solution as your one-stop-sho...

dude i thinkj it looks awesome
will you use this over the Viltrox 16mm 1.8?..
For an all-around lens yes, but for strict vlogging I wouldn't. The 16mm Viltrox is very underrated. Just a bit big and I find it's ugly but the performance is as good as any lens out there.
@@noisackda2564 I see, that makes sense. I just bought the Viltrox 16mm for fashion and street photography focused on architecture, should be fun :)
lens used?
Probably the Sony 15mm F1.4
I like your vid. I like the look of the lens. But above all: I like your glasses, dude. Never not wear them. Don move.
Hahahahaha!!! Appreciate you sir.
Hey from Japan! I was just looking into getting the FX30 and either of the 2 lenses. Are you shooting in LOG? I understand the native ISO is 800 and 2500 but did you use any ND filters or just bumped the shutter speed? I didn't see any flickering so I was really curious! Great content btw👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you! Japan! I'm jealous. Good questions. I pretty much lock everything at 1/60 iso 2500 and only expose with an ND filter. All the best :) The FX30 is brilliant
@@noisackda2564 Thanks for the tip! Right ok I assume you shoot at 1/125 SS:) I know it's the videographer and not the camera that gets you great shots so in your hands the FX30 looks amazing👍🏻 Yeah I will definitely look into getting one. Got to find a good ND filter. Will look into a good Variable ND filter to.
@ I do actually shoot at 1/125. The reason I recommend shooting at 1/60 now for others is because some complain about flickering so I just suggest shooting at 1/60 now despite the fact I think 1/125 is smoother, but if you keep this in mind then I would recommend that you to shoot at 1/125 or even higher outdoors but 1/60 if you're indoors with fluorescent lights. Regarding the ND filter, you don't have to get an expensive one but I do recommend getting one that doesn't create an X pattern. K&F nano X are great. Neewer also makes a good variable ND filter that doesn't have the X pattern. If you like the softer look get a varable ND filter with a 1/4 mist filter on top. That's what i use.
@@noisackda2564 Thanks again, oh that's another great tip. that makes sense to shoot at 1/60 to avoid flickering I'll definitely keep that in mind. And thanks for ND filter recommendation. I was just looking at one fromK&F on amazon JP and I found one with the 1/4 mist!! It's not nano though. It's called concept series🧐 I guess there won't be that much of a difference. One last question if you don't , I should go for the ND2-ND400 right? not N2-N32. Thanks again in advance🙇
@@SuperCollectorClark Glad I can help :) The K&F concepts are good. Just make sure in the description that it doesn't have the X pattern. ND2-400 is good.
great video. you have sold it to me
Glad I can help :)
what lens were u using with the fx30?
I don't remember haha! Judging by the stability and wideness of the lens I would say the Sony 11mm

@@GoatsWildlife Haha! Appreciate you :)

Amazing! Glad I can help
howdy . I am a new director and i wanna start my first film but i am very confused about what camera i need to buy . I am thinking Fuji x-M5 but i dont know man i am not sure . Any thoughts ??
Hey man, thanks for writing. For a first film, this is a great camera. Great stability. Nice 4K. Super easy to use. I think it's a good choice. Another alternate would be the Sony ZV-E10ii. Same thing. Great 4K but Sony has better lenses to choose from. If you wanted something higher end but won't kill your bank account I would go with the A6700, but it is significantly more expensive, but it share the same sensor as the FX-30 wich is a legit film camera. A lot of films and music videos use the FX-30 and the A6700 has that sensor in it.
I just discovered your channel. You have so much charisma behind the camera new subscriber for sure.👌🏾
Appreciate this :) Thank you
Great video 👍🏾
Thank you :)
I believe once someone knows how to shoot anamorphic, it’s the most beautiful thing. I personally will always use my anamorphic lens. Great stuff, gorgeous.
Thank you! I'm glad I'm not the only one obsessed with anamorphic haha.
Hey Noi! Do you sell LUT packs? Love the content man
Hey man. I don't sell LUT's unfortunately. All of the luts I use are adapted from other luts so I feel bad adjusting them and selling them. I know others do this but I can't. I do recommend Phantom Luts though. Get those as a starting point and mess around with them until you arrive at your own look. That's what i do,
Tip top first impressions! Very helpful. Thanks!
Thank you :) Glad I can help
Nice video, Noi!
Thank you so much :)
Hey, I'm really considering buying this lens, but the lack of OSS is what conserns me the most. At 105 when you shot the sequences with the birds is this with SteadyShot or ActiveStabe in camera setrings? I know I won't be able to walk and have it non-shaky but I'm planning to use it more as for handheld still footage, so can you please tell me how the lens is behaving in that kind of scenarios please?
For handheld stationary footage you will be fine :) Very stable with Active and Steady Shot. Just as good as my OSS lenses actually.
@@noisackda2564 Yay, thank you for the quick response, I'm more than happy to hear that the IBIS is good enough, so I'm fully invested in getting the lens now. :)
@@IndieLumineer It's pretty great! I would advise you get a monopod as well.
thanks for making this video. I was curious about this lens.
Im goin for it I think... day time hikes I think would be chills old school vibes out in my country town.
You’re welcome! Very niche but very cool lens.
It will definitely make everything look like it was shot in the 80s for sure!
This is a great lens. For walking this lens is really hard to stabilised although usable. I guess this lens is for those who handle it behind the camera like documentary, wedding and etc. owh need to use monopod. just my thought.
Yeah it's a bit hard to stabilize. For sure you would need some sort of assistance like a monopod. This lens is however great for photography. Weddings and events
@@noisackda2564 yes you are right sir. it also good for documentary style.
@@Mraz75 Yes it is :)
Now I want to buy stuff at that mall, too! ...and don't get me started with the food court!! I'm curious though, have you ever played with Tamron's 20-40 f2.8? The 16-25 range confuses me a bit, do you find yourself staying at 16 more often or use the full range?
Brotha, visit and I'll take you there haha. 16-25 is very weird but I don't mind it actually. Sort of makes sense because I'm taking more photos. The 16mm focal distance is perfect for vlogging but it distorts the image a little too much in photos whereas at 25mm the image looks way more natural. In short, 16mm always for vlogging and 16-25 for photography.
@noisackda2564 good food and collectibles is all I need! That makes sense, I think as per usual, the hunt for the perfect lens (especially a zoom) continues but that's good for thought. I feel like Lumix makes some interesting ones that I wish Sony would put out, even if they are variable aperture kit lenses. They make a 20-60 and an 18-40. I'd love a range like that in e-mount
@@BrianCatalano What?! Those are some crazy lenses! Now I'm looking at Lumix :/ Thanks jerk!
@noisackda2564 ha ha!!
Great Vlog! back to the biggest Asian "indoor" Mall hahhaa. Glad you made it again! Cheers!

@@AntzMr It normally is! I go to Aden camera there and every time I do, I feel depressed lol.
I'm loving the colors and quality of your talking head stuff in this video. Are you using a LUT, Cine-EI? Which camera and lens for the talking head?
Thank you! No Cine-EI beause it isn't a paid gig so I perfer to keep it simple lol. I'm using Phantom Luts here with the FX30 and i'm actually using a FF lens with it. I'm using the Viltrox 16mm f1.4 lens.
Nice vlog 💪🏻💪🏻, Are u usung a black mist Filter or is it dehancer pro ?
Thanks so much! I'm using a mist filter. It's actually a VND plus 1/4 mist filter.
Tried it for photography on my A7C and it's crap. If you use apsc mode or simply crop, you'll always (1.5x and 2x magnification) get better results than you get with Clear Image Zoom. In video mode, it's more viable, but it depends on the camera body + resolution set.
That's very interesting. Thanks for that.
In active is perfect, Dinamic A. It has that micro vibrations in the background
Yeah I can't stand those micro vibrations :(
I have the 16-28 from sigma its is worth looking into for vloggin
Absolutely! the 16mm focal range is perfect for vlogging and the 28mm zoom is perfect for street photography.
I want to buy 24-70
I stuggled with this as well. 24-70 would be the perfect do-it-all lens but I needed that extra zoom for my use case which was to shoot fight tournaments. I wish this was a 24-105 :( 28 is a bit too wide.
Happy New Year Noi and Family! I love this new RUclips's algorithm only because it has recommended some of the best channels which has less number of views or subs! I loved the way you shared your thoughts around the lens with your unique style rather than following the standard format of the reviews...I can't afford the lens nor I have full frame camera still I watched the entire video....😆
Thank you so much! This motivates me to create more content. It's honestly hard to review lenses this way because people want to hear every small detail and I get that, but I want to show the lens in a real world situation and to me, small details like sharpness and chromatic abberation isn't really that important. To me if the footage looks good then the lens is good enough for me. Either way, I don't want to get in to it because I also like those detailed reviews lol. Just want to say I appreciate you :)
Great video mate, love all the examples you gave to give a realistic look at the lens
Thank you! That's my goal is to not glamorize lenses but to show real-world use. Appreciate you :)
hey just found your channel, nice video you're pleasant to listen to, a thing i would add is just a tiny bit more shots of the lens its self we got 8 sec in a 8 min video. i never seen your channel so maybe this is your style im just saying what came up after watching one of your videos for the first time. happy new year and you have my sub 🙂
Thank you so much! Appreciate this and thanks for the feedback :)
This is 200 gms heavier than the sigma 18-50 mm. And twice the cost. These two factors are enough to stay with the Sigma.
I actually have the Sigma as well but I prefer the perfomance and render of the Sony lens. I recently gave the Sigma to my brother but it was a great lens and you are right. It was a great lens but the Sony is a bit better in every way.
This lens is on my wishlist in 2025, but I need to sell my Sigma 35 1.4 & Sigma 24-70 to get this ;)

@@AntzMr Yes lol
Your channel was suggested to me and man you are one of my favorite creators! I trust your reviews haha Question have you tired the 35-150 from tamron? I’m looking between these two
Aw thank you. Appreciate you. I've owned two Tamrons and sold them both. I don't really like them. Perhaps I didn't give them a fair shot but I didn't like the way they handled stability. It wasn't stable lol. That focal range is great though and to be fair, I haven't tried that lens in particular. Remember I'm a video guy. Both of these lenses are going to be challenging when shooting video. If you're doing the same and the Tamron starts at 35mm that is going to be a tough lens to stabilize for sure. Also consider that Sony cameras unlike other brands have an internal zoom called Clear image zoom so your Sigma lens will be more like a 28- 170mm ( Just a guess ) so if the 150mm range is what you are after know that you are getting that with the Sigma. Of course the Tamron will benefit from this as well so you will be getting something like 35- 210mm ( Also a guess ) Honestly though. The biggest benefit is the wider angle of the Sigma. I feel a starting point of 35mm is very limiting and closes you off from a lot of shot you would otherwise get with the Sigma. Go Sigma.
@@noisackda2564 Thank you! I only shoot videos, so this is great information! definitely leaning toward Sigma. I use the Sony ZV-E1

Lighting - the most boring but also in a three-way tie for the most important thing about filming. People talk about hiring an editor. If I made it big, I'd hire a professional lighting guy before I'd hire an editor.

😬💀 It is quite an amazing lens! Hard to stabilize though.
@noisackda2564 hmmm, good point. That compression though...
@@BrianCatalano Yeah I know! I love it!
Dear Friend, my first priority on gear is weight. Therefore prime lenses like 17, 35 and 90 mm from Sigma are my first choice. I can combine this with apsc fx30 and my a7cii. My recent lens from Sony is the 135 mm 1,8. I guess I can share more tips on small things from Leofoto, Falcam and Neewer. All the best for 2025. Klaus from Germany
I used to be the same way. I love primes because they are super fast. I love the quality they bring but I’ve recently began to hate changing lenses on the body so I’ve been investing only in zooms lately. Love your set up! Solid choices. All the best sir :)
Ok, I will have a closer look too the Sigma 10-18 2,8. It’s APS-c but also ok to use my fx30 more often. 😊😊😊
@ifollowyou4254 That looks like a heck of a lens.
@@noisackda2564 Yes, but I need to decide between the Sigma and the Sony 10-20, which ist 200 bugs cheaper in Germany and with internal focus and the power zoom but only 4.0 instead of 2.8.
@ifollowyou4254 I would go with the faster lens for APSC. You will need all the stops you can get. F4 vs F2.8 is a huge difference in crop sensors.
Just got mine a couple days ago too, my first Fuji. You’ll like the baseplate and grip, it does help a lot. I was actually impressed with weight and quality, way heavier than I expected actually. I expected it to be lighter than an a6000. I also have an A7RV for when I really need to perform, this X-M5 is for fun and travel - I just wish the sun would come out!
Nice! I like the weight of it as well. I just don’t like the plastic construction. I’ve held the x100vi and it’s so much more,” high end” feeling. An absolute work of art. I can’t wait for the grip since I always feel like the X-M5 is going to slip out of my hands. Thanks for the comment. Enjoy your camera!
Man, you make a great ad for this camera, really tempting haha. Great quality for the environment you shot it, pretty dark, yet the footage turned out great. The stabilization also looks an improvement over Sony's.
Thank you! It’s an amazing little camera. I’m going to be taking it outside soon where it will get a proper test :)
