I randomly came across your channel and I have to say - there's something really refreshing about your vlogging style. It's not overdone or exaggerated... it just feels normal. And it's incredibly relaxing. I keep coming back and watching your videos. Keep it up!!
@noisackda2564 I'm glad to hear it!! I'm trying to be more active with commenting instead of being a silent watcher and just felt like I needed to say something :)
@@ColletteisaBear Well I'm super happy you commented. Every comment fuels us to create, and it's good to know that what I'm doing is appreciated. Now I feel like shooting another video :P
couldn't agree more ive learned so much in the past year with it ! love my fx30 finally learning Cine EI and color grading I don't know if any other camera would've pushed me to do so. Love this video !
Recently I uograded to the FX30 from the ZVE10 also, but for me the sole purpose was dual cards. I got tired of losing footage to SD card lottery You're absolutely right, you dont notice how limited the ZVE10 is until you begin shooting with the FX30, and the picture quality is identical between the two. Shooting PP off to go fast and reduce workflow, and Ive been very happy with the colours - having said that though I'd be interested in getting a more tailored look but Ive got no idea how to expose slog3. Tried, failed, had a video that needed finishing do gave up and have kind of just been stuck shooting videos with no time to learn it feels like. Would be keen to give it another go though, can you recommend a guide?
Thanks so much. The FX30 gets better and better the more you use it. I've never experienced this before in a camera TBH. As for SLOG3 exposure, I'm not great at it either because I don't follow scopes. I just eyeball everything and expose with an ND filter. I load a lut on to the camera so when I'm shooting I can see what my colors are going to be when I edit. It's like a cheat code. As for luts I would recommend buying the phantom Arri luts for the Sony system.
@@noisackda2564 You know what, that makes a ton of sense and sounds a lot like the way I'm already shooting. I'll have to grab those luts and load them in the camera. Thanks for taking the time!
*I have Both. The FX30 and the ZV-E10. But I also Shoot in 4K 60 on the FX30 and thee other in just 4K 30 but I do notice a bit better quality when shooting in 60 over 30, but it's also a Cinema Camera and the ZV-E10 is a Hybrid which is fine. But I use the 11mm on the ZV-E10 and the Sigma 16mm on the FX30 but I'm looking to get another lens equivalent to my sigma 16mm*
I think Tony Northrup only vlogs in 4K 60. Definitely gives it a more clean look. I also have the E10. Great camera. Underrated actually. 4K looks great on that camera. The only thing I didn't like about it was that it didn't shoot SLOG3 well due to the 8-bit readout. I also find that the FX30 is much better overall with highlight and dynamic range roll-off. Everything looks very smooth on it I find. Very small differences that no-one else would probably even notice. Have you looked at the Sony 15mm F1.4? It's very similar in focal range to the Sigma 16 but is much lighter and has a focus hold button. Very similar to the Sony 11mm in size and weight.
I shoot on my ZV-E10 in PP8 S-Log3 in S-Gamut3.Cine now I know it's not going too shoot the same SLOG 3 as My FX30 as it's 10 and the E10 is 8Bit But I use it instead of SLOG2. But yeah I wasn't sure cause I was like well we're talking 15mm vs 16mm which isn't much in terms of not much wider it was more size wise so I'll be getting that for my fx30 AND MY Sigma will just be My backup, thanks for that@@noisackda2564
I'm using Adobe Premier. I told myself I wouldn't do another color-grading video because I think it's tough. Colors rely very heavily on exposure and white balance. Not everyone exposes and white balances properly. I get asked a lot though so I may do it :)
was looking at the xh2s, and then i was like, im not here for nostalgia - wish it had the stacked sensor, but you can make it look however you want and theres nothing else remotely in competition for the build quality - thanks for making this video ur style is so refreshing and good
This is THE best vlog I've seen in 2024! Don't stop being a funckle! And I can totally relate to nerding out about cameras with the people around you haha. Do you have any reason to not go for the A6700 instead of FX30? I am thinking of going for the 6700 and save some money and put it towards the lenses!
Haha! Thank you so much :) I really appreciate this. As far as why i went with the FX30. The a6700 wasn't released at the time. I would go with the a6700 out of the two unless you needed to shoot for very long periods. It has an internal fan. With that said, I don't regret owning the FX30. It definitely is more beloved if that matters to you. It's almost like you are indoctrinated into an exclusive club just by owning one haha. Plus the construction feels very high end. The a6700 not so much lol but it isn't cheap by no means.
I also randomly came across your video and wanted to comment how good it is. Organic, down to earth and like many mentioned the color is looking great. I guess I came across it bc I was researching fx30's. I am a 25 year professional and had the FX3, sold it in the pandemic bc video work came to a standstill. Got the A7IV bc I got some odd end photo "jobs" I could do in my house in lockdowns. Been back to video for the last 2 years more or less and where I live the FX3's are hard to come by and way over priced , so I was thinking about getting an FX30 until a newer FX3II or whatever might come out. As it is I love the A7IV but over heating is becoming disruptive in many of my jobs. Nothing major but embarrassing when I have to stop for a minute or to and let the camera cool off slightly. Even in very mild conditions it happens. So The FX30 makes sense I guess until I can afford something "Better". If the higher base ISO was just like the A7IV it might be easier to decide. But I guess faster lenses can take care of that. I am not much of a very low light shooter and actually found the FX3 kind of annoying when I just needed to go to 3200 or a little more and had to use 12.800 which was over kill and I had to use a ton of ND to bring it back down. Not many people mention that. Sure if you are shooting nighttime or super low light it comes in handy. But sometimes, at least for me it was not necessary. Another thing is on the Sony ZV models, One SD card slot is a NO go for any professional.
First off, thanks so much! Your post illustrates how there isn’t a perfect camera haha. I feel ya. Everything you said are points I can identify with especially the point about the crazy iso of 12800 haha. I don’t know if they can do it but it would be great to have a triple base iso. For me, the FX30 is perfect. I prefer a darker image and I find that there wasn’t a situation where the FX30 was lacking. I’m fine with a moodier look as long as the image is clean. At any rate. I hope you find a solution without breaking the bank. Thanks again for the comment.
hey bro, pretty much watched all ur videos over the last few days and they've been super helpful as i'm currently in the process of deciding whether to downgrade from FX3 to FX30 or ZV-E1 (need to free up some cash and FX3 is a lot of camera for what i do). Still haven't made a final decision but either way i appreciate the content you've been making especially the stuff with the 11mm f1.8... keep up the good work!
Thanks brotha. I appreciate it! I would kill for an FX3 haha. Well maybe not but I totally get where you're coming from. You have a tough dilema in front of you. The ZV-E1's image quality will be the same as what you're used to in the FX3 but the body of the ZV will leave you dissapointed I think. There are other things on the ZV camera that you won't find in the FX3 like dynamic active stabe and auto framing. Both of which as pretty cool IMO. FX30 is just an APSC version of the FX3 but I think you may be dissapointed in the low light capbilities. It's good if you have never touched an FX3 but it's nowhere near as usable. With the ZV camera I've been buying a lot of F4 lenses simply because the sensor is so good I don't need a fast lens and I'm able to save a lot of money this way because you know, the faster the lens the more expensive the lens generally speaking.
@@noisackda2564 yeah haha FX3 had been my dream camera for a while also, shot on a a6300 for 7 years before deciding to go full frame. And defo a tough dilemma, been non-stop researching both cams for weeks and still no decision haha! Everything you mentioned here is what's holding me back basically, honestly if the FX30 had slightly better low light performance and didn't have such a huge crop in 4k120 it would be a no brainer for me... but i reckon Sony does this stuff on purpose to get us to always want the next camera up y'know... anyway thanks again for the content and the insights, appreciate ya 🤝
I haven't owned a proper camera since my Canon T3i back in 2016. I'd been battling between choosing the A6700 or FX30, then considering the ZVE-10. For me, the fans are one of the biggest reasons for me leaning towards the FX30 and I think this video only helped confirmed that I should wait it out and invest in the FX30. Great video and thank you ❤
It’s funny that you noticed how much people love the FX30. It’s a great camera. Every time I post an FX30 video it gets the most views and engagement. I’ve never owned an A6700 but I’ve owned the A6500. I didn’t like the A6500 much but all of the issues on that camera were fixed on the A6700. If you’re a hybrid shooter you may want to consider that camera still since I don’t think the FX30 is a good choice for photos. I’ve also owned the ZV-E10 and there’s a huge fan base around that camera as well, but it really is an entry level camera that just happens to punch above its weight class. Glad I can help and all the best. Thanks for the kind words and comment.
@@noisackda2564 The FX30 was my original first choice but then the A6700 came out. If not for the overheating issues (and me not wanting to deal with adding an Ulanzi fan) I would have gone with the 6700 but in the long run I think the FX30 will serve me better. While I'd like to do more photography, I'm more of a video shooter who wouldn't probably need a mechanical shutter for anything. Just shooting photos for thumbnails, etc.
@@Dwoalin Gotcha. The FX30 makes a lot of sense then. It's also a killer streaming camera because it doesn't overheat. I would keep my ears open this year though. I hear there's news of more FX cameras coming out.
@@Dwoalin I didn't say a thing lol! I don't think it will be hard to outgrow the FX30 TBH. If I only had that camera it would be more than enough for anything I do and more.
I'm always envious of your color grade and also not so envious of your winters! Great video as usual, looks solid... I really want to test out the fx30s/a6700s sensor!
What's up my dude! Thanks for stopping by. My color grading isn't so great. It's just we always have overcast where we are and it makes for really nice exposure :P Honestly, these Sony cameras are so similar we are splitting hairs at this point. It's very similar to the ZV-E1 but with a better build and better controls. Image quality is same same haha.
@@noisackda2564 I completely agree with that...and I realize I'm just looking for a dopamine kick from that new-new, but I'm aware all modern 10bit Sonys look exactly the same (and as you showed, probably as the 8bit zve10 too). Either way, overcast winter exposure looks good on ya!
@@BrianCatalano I wouldn't worry about that seeing as how Sony releases a million products a year. You'll get that dopamine kick soon. We are the worse haha. Serious issues.
Although the Zv-E1 has great image, I don't know why, but the image from the FX30 looks more cinematic somehow. Maybe it's psychological, or it is a little smoother while the Zv-E1 seems sharper, but anyways... I was between them but ended up choosing the FX30. Your vlogs helped me decide, I prefer the more cinematic look for what I'm going to do, films and music videos. The price difference also made me able to snatch the camera + a Sirui sniper 23mm to get started! Can't wait for them to arrive! Thanks and keep up the good work!
Nice! Do you know what? The FX30 is the sharper camera but I think you're right. There's something about it that looks smoother. It might be better at managing highlight and dark roll offs. I agree that the FX30 looks more cinematic. I also think you're going to be very happy with the FX30 :) It's going to age really well. You're going to notice a lot of grain in the SLOG3 footage but if you apply the correct lut to it it will clean right up.
Still learning with the fx30, been shooting only cine ei in noncontrolled environments, dang it. Mainly been using the phantom luts but I've been sticking with his recommended white balances. You've encouraged me to try out flex iso for run and gun. I learn something new in every video you make, keep it up Noi, and happy new year!
Happy New year! I'm so happy you find my videos valuable. Keep in mind these are the things that work for me but yeah, I stay away from Cine EI like it's the plague if I'm in a run and gun situation. Too risky man :P I would also keep two custom white balances that you do yourself. One for indoor lighting and the other for outdoor. Heck even auto white balance for outdoor is good enough but you should make a custom one for indoor for sure.
@joshontherocks I totally agree with all of this. I guess I'm not effected as much because I'm not shooting weddings and things where peoples faces need to be shown in clarity. I welcome the dark mood of a scene so low light is not an issue much for me. I have the ZV-E1 and that thing has night vision so I see why the second iso being 2500 sucks to a lot of people.
How is that little fan for the zve1? Which version are you using? I need the size/weight of the zve1, otherwise I’d go fx30! I’m using the crane m3 and while the fx30 could balance I know it’s heavier and for my use case… FF and 4K120 is useful for my uses. Thanks for the info on the fan!
Yeah go with the E1 if size is important. I'm using the Ulanzi fan. This is the updated on I believe. Better mounting solution. I have the one with the suction cups and it's not reliable. www.ulanzi.com/products/ulanzi-camera-cooling-fan-for-sony-canon-fujifilm-c072gbb1?currency=USD&variant=44430653456605&Google%20Shopping&stkn=100b30dffdd7&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQiAh8OtBhCQARIsAIkWb69_kHUEL52QFFjJ7d8ScB5zLTgLyIoPf-67k41TygzuSW9lhba0hVMaAqP_EALw_wcB
I've had my FX30 since it was released. To be honest, I think it's the first camera that I may just keep even if I upgraded to something else. I'm working with a friend to develop a short film to shoot with the FX30. In the meantime, I continue to shoot with the FX30 just to get better at using it. As far as other cameras go, I've been looking at several over the past year. The year 2023 had a lot of great cameras get released. One I keep getting drawn back to is the Panasonic S5iix. Besides the fact that it's full frame, I like the fact that Panasonic cameras provide you the ability to shoot with Shutter Angle, which I prefer over Shutter Speed. That plus the S5iix comes with a ton of codecs and the ability to shoot in 6K open gate. Anyway. Thanks again for sharing your experiences. Happy New Year.
Happy New Year! It's great to hear from you again :) Agreed with everything you said. When I was in Japan I was so close to buying the Pani S5iix. Spec wise it seems perfect. If the FX30 wasn't as good as it was I would have bought it for sure, and ; we are at a point of dimishing returns. Future improvements in cameras are so micro at this point it's like splitting hairs. I just love this tech so much I'm pretty much buying things to collect at this point. It's sort of an issue haha
@@noisackda2564 Yea, I’ve had GAS a few times myself. That’s one of the reasons I’m holding onto the FX30. Not only because it’s as good as it is, but like you said a lot of improvements in new cameras have been small in comparison.
Thinking about this camera and came across your channel! Really enjoying your style of vlogs and delivery of information. Which lens do you use for these vlogs?
Bro I love the grade you have on this vid is this a lit for purchase? Also what settings did you use to shoot this. I just bought the fx30 after selling my a7c for vlogging
Nice. Congrats on the FX30. Funny enough, I'm looking at getting the a7Cii for photography, but love my FX30. There's something about the inage that come from it that's special. As far as what setting I'm using. I shoot in SLOG3 and I apply the Arri Phantom LUT. Well worth it but make sure you get the proper one for the FX30.
@ thank you so much for this response does it come in a lut pack or just the one lut? Also to be honest I need to look into the difference between A7c and A7cii and I decided to keep my A7iii as my primary photo camera because the a7c are not built for hard professional use. Also the viewfinder is so mall it’s pretty much irrelevant. I found that I was using my a7iii primarily for photos on shoots and just using a7c for video. So this made the fx30 a no brainer for me. Even when I did use the a7c for pictures I never would use burst mode only single shot as I would have wider lenses on it not necessarily trying to catch the subject doing something but more capture subject in its environment
I mostly shoot street video at night, but there are most often streetlights and such around that i use (i guess that counts as low light?) I want to upgrade from iPhone 14 pro to either fx30 or a7iv. I Don’t take pictures so that is not a factor. Which one to choose? I mostly make moogy ig reels but i am starting to get more and more business offers and i want to be able to shot all kinds of videos, commercial, shott film, documentary style stuff.
If you are planning to get a camera specifically for low light at this price range I would actually suggest the ZV-E1. It has the same sensor as the FX3 which is insane seeing as how the FX3 is a $5000 plus camera. The only bad thing about the ZV-E1 is that some people have been complaining about overheating which may be a problem for you if you shoot clips over ten minutes long. The ZV-E1 also has the new dynamic active mode that is almost as good as a gymbal in many situations.
@@noisackda2564 thanks man that is interesting. Overheating after 10 minutes sounds bad for flexibility though, not that it would brother me most times. But for work that would be stressful i think. Otherwise it sounds great actually 💯
@@junglisttt I've never had it overheat on me TBH. The longest I've shot for is around 15 min. You can get a cheap fan for the back and I think that's a good solution. If you're shooting a lot at night then trust me. You will need this sensor so I think it's a good recommendation for your use case.
I'm still in a dilemma now whether to go for fx30 or s5ii. Currently using Panasonic g85 and its a beast when i shoot wedding videos especially when I shoot solo. the Panasonic stabilization is a must for me however i kinda prefer sony color looks and variety of their third party lenses but just cant with Sony's amateur stabilization, i dont want the Hussle to use catalyst browse software for each 100 clips. I have never used a vlog pp before on Panasonic because g85 has none of the log profiles not sure if it is similar to sony S log so I can use a variety of luts
I'm very curious about the S5ii myself. I almost bought one when I was in Japan not long ago. I like what they are doing with stabilization under a very controlled shoot. Once you start moving around quickly is when you get that jello effect, similar to Sony's ZVE10 with dynamic active enabled. The sensor can't seem to keep up. This was the reason that kept me from getting that camera. If I was already in the Panasonic ecosystem I would probably stay there since you're probably very familiar with the nuances. I recently bought a Fuji camera and it's almost unusable for me. Nothing seems to make any sense. A thing to consider if you are thinking about moving to the FX30 is that it's a camera thats 100% video. I know this is weird to say and obvious but the buttons and menu are so intuative. I can pretty much adjust everything closing my eyes at this point. I can't do that with any other Sony camera. Also, you are right about lens choices. There's almost too much at this point making it very hard to choose which lens to buy. Sony also has a bunch of picture profiles. Some aren't meant to be graded like cine2 and some are, like SLOG2 and SLOG3. With those you can pretty much throw any lut on them but it's advised that you use a lut that was designed for those profiles respectively.
@@noisackda2564 is the handheld stabilization good enough for b-roll shots? Just simple left right movements for wedding ring, hand bouquet, invitation wedding card. For walking I obviously use gimbal
@@morpheusmorph13 I think so, but in these situations where the movement is slow and deliberate I think the S5ii wins hands down. The only way it evens out is if you shoot these shots at 4K60 s&q mode. Then it will look gymbal smooth because well, slow motion, and you can do this with the S5ii as well. I think the biggest consideration is that the S5ii is full frame which is also a huge deal to some. Again, I can only speak of the strengths of the FX30 since I don't have an S5ii. I've done a lot of research on the Lumix camera but that's about all.
I love your opinion on the camera. I wonder, other than shooting longer videos where the FX-30 shines, would you recommend the A6700 since it is kind of cheaper?
I can't talk about the A6700 since I don't have it. Spec wise it make a lot of sense since it's essentially an APSC version of the ZV-E1 right? If I didn't have the FX30 I may have gotten that camera instead I think but i would hate that reality because then I wouldn't have picked up the FX30. The biggest takeaway is the FX30 taught me about base iso's and white balancing. Some things I never talked about in this video :( I'm not good at vocalizing my thoughts but I should have said so much more. Short story is yes. The A6700 might be better for most people. Jeez that was a lot of words typed lol.
@@noisackda2564 hahah. That says it all. The reason why is that I don't do much vlogs and don't record for a period of more than 30 minutes, where I find most reviews say that A6700 could have a better chance to overheat. But yes, thanks for your feedback.
@@AntzMr If you don't vlog much I can't see a good reason to upgrade from the ZV-E10. That camera with the Sony 11mm is as good as it gets for things like realestate.
@@noisackda2564That's also my dilemma. Good point, and that is why I'm gravitating toward an action camera or the Pocket 3 for quick real estate tours and family logs. Speaking of the Sony 11mm, I went to grab the Sigma 16mm, and I think that also gave a wide enough point of view. If I have a choice, I might want to get the Sigma 15-50, which sounds like a more versatile lens that I could use for my product shots.
Oh no, I had no idea you did a livestream! I agree the lack of 4k60 and rolling shutter two negatives as from someone who owns it. Loved the feedback on how the FX30 gave you more knowledge, very interesting! Great pros you shared with the FX30, not overheating is super nice, etc. I'm leaning towards either a SONY APS-C or the ZV-E1 Full Frame if and when I upgrade. So I really appreciated your personal experience with your own upgrade. What circumstances dictate when you use the FX30 vs. the ZV-E1? Loved the banter between your niece! The FX30 looks good doing vlogs! Great video as usual and I always come away learning something new!
That means a lot man. I'm most happy when people get something out of my videos. I'll use the E1 if I'm going to be shooting at night at some point in the day. Pretty much my vacation camera. The FX30 for everything else haha. I just enjoy the form factor and buttons. I also like the look a little more even thought that's probably a bias :P I also like that it is a better photo camera then the E1 because of it's higher megapixel count.
Damn I have to say it every time - your color grading is just amazing, just beautiful! Really happy I found your channel, although at the time I didn't own any Sony gear anymore :D For 2024 I want to look into more regarding color grading and the ZV E1. See you in 2024 and happy new year! :)
Aw thanks man. I appreciate that. Color grading is super fun to me. Sometimes I hit, sometimes I miss :P I think your channel caters to a finer stock than Sony lol. Not to downplay Sony or anything but it really doesn't seem like a match to the vibe you've cultivated.
@@noisackda2564 Haha you might be right :). I’m currently testing how I can fit the ZVE1 in my YT workflow and will see things will work out. But the ZVE1 is just a beast of a video camera. It's hard to say. I prefer the convenience of the ZV-E1 but I prefer the image quality coming out of the FX30. For vlogging and general vacation trips the ZV-E1 all the way but for documentaries and interviews and more professional work I would go with the FX30.
@@noisackda2564 you were also using the 11mm in the bonus vlog sequence towards the end of the video? If so, it looks good. I like your 15mm vlog videos as well, a tough decision between the two. I honestly don't know what I like better.
This is a pretty tough one. Both cameras have their strengths and weaknesses, but I would go with the FX30 for one main reason. It can shoot 4K60/120. For sports and wedding this is a must IMO. If you can keep keep the a7iii and add the FX30 that would be perfect and you would be covered. The a7iii will be better for those low light moments during weddings though, but you can compensate by getting super fast primes.

Nice Sample videos! What editing software you used and will you upload a color grading tutorial.
I'm using Adobe Premier. I told myself I wouldn't do another color-grading video because I think it's tough. Colors rely very heavily on exposure and white balance. Not everyone exposes and white balances properly. I get asked a lot though so I may do it :)
was looking at the xh2s, and then i was like, im not here for nostalgia - wish it had the stacked sensor, but you can make it look however you want and theres nothing else remotely in competition for the build quality - thanks for making this video ur style is so refreshing and good
Yep you're right :) Also thanks for the kind words. Very much appreciated.

What's up my dude! Thanks for stopping by. My color grading isn't so great. It's just we always have overcast where we are and it makes for really nice exposure :P Honestly, these Sony cameras are so similar we are splitting hairs at this point.

@@enlistedmango thank you! I usually use either the Sony 15mm F 1.4 or the Sony 11mm F1.8.
For me it`s the bad rolling shutter on the E-10, it looks like the rolling shutter performance on the FX30 is well controlled...
Yes that's the main reason I switched from the ZV-E10
@@tonycarletello669 The lut is a pack of 5 i believe. I think what you have is a great combo with the A7iii and FX-30. :)
Good videos, why no Gimbal?
Thank you! A couple reasons. I'm too shy to carry around a gymbal and secondly I don't think I need one for my types of videos :)
I meant sigma 18-50mm

This is a pretty tough one. Both cameras have their strengths and weaknesses, but I would go with the FX30 for one main reason. It can shoot 4K60/120. For sports and wedding this is a must IMO. If you can keep keep the a7iii and add the FX30 that would be perfect and you would be covered. The a7iii will be better for those low light moments during weddings though, but you can compensate by getting super fast primes. Tough one but if I only shot video I would upgrade to have the slow mo. Sorry for the non answer answer haha.
nice channel, subscribed :)
Thank you! Appreciate it.
YT recommended your channel and not disappointed esp to another ZV-E10 and GR86 owner 😉
Let's go!!!! Can you imagine your licence plate saying ZV-E10? Haha! ZV-E10 on the GR86
Edit: Just read what I just wrote again and realized how weird of a thought this was lol. So random. Thanks for watching :)
@@noisackda2564 is the internet we welcome weirdness lol
@@BrandonTLuong Hahaha! True! I have seen some weird things of which I wish I haven't haha.
@noisackda2564 if I ever grow my audience to your size, we will do a collab so bring your gr86, zve10, boxing gloves, and we will goof off lol
@@BrandonTLuong Done! Haha! I'll help you out with a sub
Catalyst Prepare costs ~$100 per year. It makes more sense to use it with a ZV-E10, as oppose to spending thousands to upgrade to a FX30.
You have way more common sense than I do clearly 😭 You're 100% right
Catalyst 🙃
Hmmmmm FX30…
Every time I have to stabilize footage your name pops in to my head hahahaha!
